STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN WARS

War! System after system has fallen
before the terrible war machine of

It could be seen even from the ground, as three men looked out from a window past the sunset at the ships up above them. A pale grey-haired man, shorter than the other two with bony features and a scowl. The alien looked down at the human, "You're ready?" He growled with a hint of impatience.

"Let's get this over with." The human replied, turning and walking down a long corridor into the senate chamber.

"-And so I plead with you one final time!" A dignified and impassioned woman said, standing upon her platform to address the senate, "Vote Yea tomorrow, for the safety of our Republic. I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of all so-called 'refugees' into our systems. They look like us, they speak like us," She began pumping her fist into the pedestal in front of her, "But they are not us!"

Soon her speaker was deactivated, followed by the Chancellor Tol Cressa's droll admonishment that she'd exceeded her elapsed time. The pale human sitting in a platform turned to the Kel Dor with a sardonic look as the chancellor announced, "The floor yields five minutes to Chairman Stayr Vrim Valorum of Ardat-Sienar Technologies."

The sickly-looking man leaned in towards his microphone, neglecting the controls to move the platform towards the center of the rotunda, "On behalf of my company and also three other corporations and seventeen systems, the names of which will be published later today..." He began, "We hereby end all ongoing private and public contracts with the Defense Ministry and your respective systems, senators and representatives-" The chamber was immediately in an uproar, though only one voice echoed through the great theater as he hurriedly rushed his statement, "I am here to tender our secession from the Galactic Republic, and to send a message on behalf of our new benefactor."

Just as Stayr's words left his lips. The younger human beside him strode forward and hooked up a comlink to the platform's controls. He sent the pod slowly drifting away from the dock and the three quickly made their way off of it before it could float too far. "Now get me out of here." The frail-looking man said after he hopped off, looking quite shaken.

The pod drifted into the air towards the center of the chamber and quite abruptly, a holoprojection appeared... towering twenty feet tall and fearsome even in the ghostly form of such a projection- Mandalore. "Members of the Galactic Senate. Coruscanta adate... I now presume to have your attention. No more will your propaganda deafen your people to us... The time has come for you to make the choice between life and death."

He wore a golden mask, the 'T' visor unmistakable upon it- a flowing red cape and brown heavy armor. Mandalore the Ultimate- covered head to toe and every bit as immense as his reputation had foretold. Holonet stations scrambled to interrupt broadcasting for this monumental declaration.

"To those who surrender! -you will treated as the sons and daughters of Mandalore, as if you were Taung yourselves... A glorious life, and a stronger galaxy! Yet to those who resist... you and your kind will be annihilated wholesale, your worlds purged of their life. The earth shall be turned to glass, your monuments dashed to ruins- and your bloodlines extinguished."

Stayr walked at a brisk pace, flanked by his escorts, through the hallways of the senate building. Five armed republic guards approached them, their squad leader putting his hand out to stop them, "Chairman Sta-" The large Kel Dor seized the officer's hand and broke his arm, then swung him into another one of the guards before he attacked the third. The other human went to work dispatching the remaining two as Stayr looked on, wide-eyed with alarm.

"Serocco, Cathar, Althir, Nouane, Eres, Wayland- They are all now but dust and ashes..." Mandalore said, his voice booming and dark as he gestured extravagantly before the Republic, "Yet what of the Iridonians, the Zeltron, the Mandellians and Togorians? They are all our brothers... Mandalorians! They do not suffer your false republic, or the laws made by this corrupt gathering of politicians and liars."

The trio hurried marched down into the elevator and immediately began to plummet down to the underside speeder docks. The other human, thick-necked, eagle-eyed, and clean-shaven with a scar arcing on the side of his head, plugged the officers' comlink into his ear as the Kel Dor tied a belt a blaster around his waist. He handed one to Stayr, who looked down at it and then up to the fearsome alien, "I don't know how to use that."

The Kel Dor dropped the spare belt and blaster and looked out the window at the sunset, "You will, soon enough."

"Therefore, I have but one thing to say to you now, men and women of the Republic. If you are warriors and will fight, then fight! If you cannot fight, then prepare to defend yourselves. If you cannot defend, then flee as far as you can...

But if you will not retreat- die."

TL/DR- OOC Stuff

Seeking 2-3 players. The PCs will be Jedi padawans who answer the call to war, with the exception of one who may be a highly skilled Republic soldier to act as their liaison; the Jedi's go-between to the Republic Military.

I will be playing a Jedi Knight who will join the war effort as well. You can play her padawan(s), or just a padawan who just knows her. She'll nominally be in charge of the group, you know, to keep the plot from getting stagnant. :P She'll be a female twi'lek for... reasons.

If no one plays a Republic soldier, I'll GM NPC that person too. Though in that case their role will basically be to distribute mission briefings and sexual innuendo. *cough*

System or no: I'm leaning towards system, and SAGA in particular. I dislike many of things about it, but it can do the job. I feel like a Star Wars-specific system is required for this because I think the dramatic tension loses its edge in more freeform systems. Jedi are, in-universe, quite OP. But not without weaknesses. In many games and films, we see non-Jedi taking on Force Users in ways that are the most disadvantageous to the them. You don't fire a blaster at a lightsaber-wielding guy and expect to hit them, yet mooks line up in droves to get cut down. SAGA, I find, addresses this splendidly. The classes are fairly balanced, and if a non-Jedi actually plays it smart and doesn't fight the Jedi in ways most favorable to the force-user, they can really give 'em a hard time.

I want to you, the players, to have a real sense of dramatic tension about the possibility that your characters could die or become permanently changed by their difficulties, physically or mentally. You won't be fighting stormtroopers who can't hit the broadside of a sand crawler. You'll be fighting an enemy that is cunning and tough, one that will test your characters. Will you rise above the trauma of war and maintain your integrity, or will you fall to dark temptations? Perhaps there is a middle-ground, perhaps some people will need to put their hands in the dirt to keep clean the souls of the innocent.

Themes and Tone: This will be a dark game, at least for Star Wars. It's War and War is heck. One of the big themes I want to explore is the Jedi PCs being exposed to the whole wide galaxy outside the lens of the Jedi. They are technically self-exiled, and no longer bound by the rules and regulations that their way of life has imposed upon them. Even so, they've joined the war out of a sense of good- to right wrongs and come to the aid of a Republic in peril. But you know what they say about the road to hell...

At what point does the sacrifice of one's morality become too great to endure?

At one point does one step back and just stop?

The Masters say that engaging in this war will lead to the Dark Side, but they also said that of love.

Abandoning the Republic to its fate is evil by inaction... isn't it? Perhaps if the Masters are mistaken about this, then they are mistaken about a great many things.

That long IC above was mostly my fun little attempt to do something equivalent to the 'in medias res' introduction that most Star Wars films/games begin with- an action sequence to capture your attention. Your PCs would be already in the employ of the Republic, and conveniently the only ones nearby to respond to this dramatic turn of events in a timely fashion. In other words, prepare for a speeder chase in the skies of Coruscant. However, the rest of the game may be more often on battlefields, with a lot of time devoted to the down-time when your characters get a chance to cool down and respond psychologically or inter-personally to the things they've seen and done.

Of course, this being a total different format than film or video game, I can start the RP off on a much less dramatic note.

Edit:  If the soldier roll is open, I envision a kid growning up on Corsucant.  THe family buisness was flying taxi cabs.  When not going to school or chilaxing at the arcade playing first person shooters, s/he would work the family buisness--not just flying the swoop-cabs, but maintaing and restoring them--and the droids that worked on them. 

  At the start of the Mandalorian Wars, s/he enlisted in the republic's army out of a sense of duty, and also because he'd made a study fo the Mandalorians and felt that the Neo-Crusdaers were a betrayal of a life style s/he'd actaully admired.  S/he impressed someone vaugely important in an early campaing and was given special training to serve under them--equiped with better armor (corellian power suit plox?) and the chance to customize his/her kit. 

  Noteworthy skills iwll include Pilot and Mechanics.  (Possibly also use computer.)  Ideally s/he'd become a tech specialist with vehicular combat along with blaster feats.  If the game goes long enough, s/he would enter the prestige classes Elite Trooper and Ace Pilot. 

  So, there's one rudimentary pitch.  H oping to hear back from you soon!

Love the idea from a basic sense, because I love Star Wars. And being with the Revanchist would be quite interesting, even as a Padawan. I will definitely have to come back in a short bit with any ideas that may percolate through my head. Though I have to say...

...the idea that Jedi is balanced in Saga Edition is kind of odd to me. The only case where I wouldn't prefer Fantasy Flight Games is specifically the case where the players are all Jedi, because I think FFG's version doesn't really feel like a trained Jedi without gobs of XP. It's easy to get Use the Force to high values at low level and be autohit against just about any target due to how defenses scale, while at high levels a Jedi has so many options that it didn't matter that the defenses scaled up.

...but that is neither here nor now. I'd just say that the Republic Soldier player better be prepared to optimize a little if they don't want to feel use impaired, or at least REALLY love the character they are going with. ...though with any sort of game with smut, perhaps losing is not as bad as it could be?

 Interested in a position are a normal, an SIS agent who has been back and forth across the galaxy more times than she cares to count. Good with a blaster, better with a vibroblade, carries a cortosis sword in a thick cane in case she needs to deal with a jedi.

If someone's specced for it, then expect vehicular combat to be a thing. Usually the way it goes in these games is that one person drives/pilots and everyone fucks off while they do it. And vice versa, too- the pilot/driver fucks off while the rest of the party does fun stuff. Needless to say, I intend to avoid this. My recent back-to-back binging on Mad Max Fury Road has left me with a craving to run such kind of action sequences, if you couldn't tell from that intro... ;)

In other words, if there's vehicular combat- i'll do my best to incorporate all members of the party. Well, spaceship combat would be more difficult to do... I suppose I could do something like the side-by-side spacefighter/ground fighting sequences in the Force Awakens. If there is vehicle combat, expect it to involve military-grade vehicles moving through battlefields.

AnneReinard: I took one quick look at FFG and dreaded the idea of running it on a forum. I wanted to give it a shot, and I think it could work well on tabletop. I agree that Force-using characters can get a big advantage over others in SAGA at all levels, but especially once they start to get more and more options available to them... the mitigating factor can be the smorgasbord of gadgets and stuff in all those splat books. Compare Revan and Mandalore's statblocks in the KOTOR book. Personally, I don't believe for a second the greatest leader of Star Wars' Proud Warrior Race wouldn't be armed to the teeth with weaponry and gadgets enough to shame a golem made out of swiss army knives.

And yes, there shall be smut. ::) No moar Jedi rules- Celibacy is for nerds!

Shadowfox89: The odds of having 'to deal with' a Jedi is fairly slim. :P Granted, the Great Sith War occurred thirty years or so prior to this game's beginning so it's not absolutely unheard of either. Back then, the Mandalorians were allied with the Sith (who were in turn led by fallen Jedi) and even besieged Coruscant, with the dark Jedi Exar Kun killing the chancellor in the senate chamber.

  For people who think the force is the be all and end all of this game, I have a fairly large list of talents with which to refute you.  :)  Shanta Greensong very nearly took a sith master all by her lonesome in her first level of bounty hunter. 

  You want to know what the most powerful thing in Saga is?

  Do you have character generation rules for us yet, I.L.?  Do you know what gender might blend better for my soldier?  And the same question for a jedi I might pitch as an alternate?

  Ship combat--an area where jedi frequently suffer.  True, a jedi with the Force Pilot talent and the Vehicular combat feat can be a pretty devistaing pilot. 

  Of course, there's a bunch of other stations where a PC can be very useful in combat.  These call for the thing the jedi class is weakest in. 

  Skills. 

  Want to get those shields back up before we're blown to smithereens?  Or jury rig the hyperdrive so we can escape to light speed?  This calls for the VERY important roll of ship's operator/engineer.  Mechanics skill ftw.  :) 

  Oh, and what if your R2 got left behind and you need to make a hyper drive jump without querying the holonet for coordinates?  That calls for Use Computer. 

  oh, wait a second, we've got guns that aren't controlled by the pilot?  ship's gunner please!  (Heavy Weapon Proficiency or just a handy scoundrel talent.  :)  )

If you can't find any other way to be useful?  Take a seat in the co-pilot's chair and make pilot checks DC 10 to "aid another" the pilot, and perception tests to operate the sensors,

Hmm. I'm not the hugest fan of d20, but this sounds interesting.

I'll toss an old Jedi healer I never got to really use in for consideration. Here's a sheet link. I think we used a 28 point buy to generate them. Skill points are distributed in Acrobatics, Perception, Treat Injury, and Use the Force. I was avoiding physical Force talents, figuring she's not great at things like telekinesis.

Batman4560; That would be quite interesting... Given that the Mandalorians are more of a cultural thing than strictly racial. At this point, the original Mandalorian race (The Taung) are on their way out. By Jango Fett's time, they were almost entirely human.

That being said, there's such a thing as being born into the Mandalorians- and Jedi are wont to pluck young force-sensitive children from anywhere they can find them. It'd be quite an interesting backstory, that's for sure. I'm curious as to what would prompt this character to answer the call to fight against his own people.

Muse; Nothing yet as far as char gen goes. Lemme think on it a bit. Male or female, it really depends. In truth, my Jedi Knight character might just exist to tempt the PCs (or be tempted by them, actually...) so I have a slight preference for males for the padawans. The soldier type character is also supposed to tempt the padawans, to a lesser extent. Mostly the soldier's role is to expose the padawans to thinking outside the Jedi frame of reference.

As for ship-to-ship combat, the easy way to get everyone involved is a good old fashioned boarding party. ;)

Well if he were taken as a child it could simply be that he doesn't know he was Mandalorian. Or to gain a better understanding of tactics, like many Mandalorians would do, he willingly answered the call to fight his people and see how he measures up to the others.

If using SAGA, there is the temptation to reduce all level and BaB requirements for PrCs by 2.

One of my gripes with it is that there's more or less a level cap of 20 (if you look at the canon NPCs) and you just about need to be halfway to that before you can start to take PrCs and really diversify your build. I found I felt like I didn't have quite a lot of options and I'm usually t

That being said, there's an annoying shortage of non-force user 12th level prestige classes...

But that's all just hypothetical. I don't know if this game will go to 20 (but then again, I have ran a game on E that lasted for a good.. 4 or 5 years?)

I love FFG rules, but I must say. It is absolutely atrocious to use without a custom roller applet or the like.

And since there isn't one for this site that I know at, I would avoid it like the plague. Translating 1d6/8/10 into special symbols constantly and then working out conversions? BLEGH.

I rubbed my two brain cells together and came up with the idea of a Zabrak Jedi who lost his (since the gender preference here is male) Master to a Mandalorian terrorist attack.  Naturally, the call to join the war would ring loudly in his ears as it would in any other who lost loved ones to Mandalorian attacks.  He might have even gone 'rogue' before the call to war reached his ears, feeling unable or unworthy to return to the Jedi temple after his superior died to save him...

And I must agree that FFGs Star Wars is terrible (with regards to rolling) without an app or being at the tabletop.  It wouldn't be so bad if there was only one set of symbols to deal with (FATE's being easily handled as 1-2 being -, 3-4 being blank, and 5-6 being +), but...

Well, yeah.  Rpol.net has a custom roller for it, which makes things a little easier when you're trying not to get shot by stormtroopers in a bar.

I do absolutely love the FFG games themselves, but will totally agree that the custom dice are pretty annoying at times. They work out okay in person, and would probably be great if my players would ever use their advantages and disadvantages, but online, they are a bit of a hassle.

I absolutely adore FFG's version for the treatment of non-Force sensitives, and Force sensitives within the Rebellion era. That being said, I will agree that running it via PBP without a dedicated app for recording rolls, storing rolls, etc would be an absolute nightmare. And since you want mostly Jedi, it isn't even the place for FFG's thing anyway!

...I'm not entirely sure I'll put something up at this point. The concept is shiny, but I'm not getting any good Jedi thoughts at the moment.

Chargen rules for now;

Special Rule: Prestige Classes require two less levels or BaB for entry requirements. (IE: 5 or 10)

ECL 4 for Jedi, ECL 6 for the normie. The padawans have a few missions under their belt and are on the cusp of knighthood. The republic soldier has been in service for awhile or demonstrated a great deal of ability, enough to be considered a commando or special forces.

32 Point Buy.

A sample sheet, which in some form is mandatory for this game. It doesn't have to be as long as this one, and I do tend to ramble- but this is also here to give you an idea as to what the Knight will be like.

Personality: As a social chameleon, Merryn naturally develops emotions and feelings in tandem with others around her, by virtue of the Force's influence. While never particularly intellectual, Merryn's keen sagacity remains unaltered when she takes on the emotions of those around her. This has allowed her to control these feelings well enough that it never gave the Jedi Order reason to be concerned about this emotional transference.

Description: The Jedi Knight Val'taros returned to Coruscant from a mission one day in 3981 BBY with an adolescent twi'lek in tow. He asked that the council permit her to undergo the training of a Jedi. She sat empty, blank, and almost serene as they tested her. The masters searched her feelings and found it to be as if they were staring into a mirror. This girl, known only as Merryn, had a strange power with the force.

Unconsciously, she used the force to reach out to others and adopt their feelings and sensations as their own. This anomaly was reason enough for the Council to not permit her entry into the order. Val'taros pleaded, citing that the Force would not grant her such an ability to go unused, that she had a destiny to fulfill. He was wholly opposed, to the point that Merryn began to subscribe to that feeling as well. But the lone voice of Jedi Master Sunrider spoke out on her behalf, and after a long time of deliberation- the rest of the Council were persuaded to allow Merryn into the order, directly under Val'taros' tutelage. If only for a provisional period of one standard year.

Merryn's empty and receptive mind was almost like a blank slate. She possessed a few languages, higher end cognitive abilities, but a limited knowledge of her own life prior to meeting Val'taros. She was strongly aware of her nature, and could tell when the emotions of others were being projected upon her. This did not lessen these feelings any, but it did not conceal them from her awareness either.

Val'taros found that the young twi'lek could utilize this natural ability as a training aid, transferring his own knowledge and experience into the young girl's receptive mind. Devoid of other distractions, the young Jedi-to-be took in the precepts with as much conviction as Val'taros himself possessed. When he brought her back before the council a year later, they were indeed impressed with her mastery over herself and the force, and she was given their blessing to continue training.

Now a woman, Merryn was something of a rising star within the order by the year 3877 BBY. With her receptive mind and Val'taros' attentive training, she learned at an accelerated rate and was becoming rapidly the equal of her peers, if not outright surpassing them. Val'taros argued that Merryn had all her adult life been undergoing the Trial of Insight, suppressing the emotions of others within her heart and seeing what was objectively true about her own situation.

To confirm this, a Jedi Council observed as the twi'lek female sat before them and was asked to identify the feelings of those among her in the room. She first explained the surprise and dismay felt by Val'taros, for he believed the test too harsh to pit a mere padawan against the closely guarded hearts of Jedi Masters. Then Merryn went on to say that Master Tokare was pleasantly surprised with her quick assessment. Then she spoke of Master Lamar, who contemptuously felt that Master Tokare wasn't guarding his emotions on purpose to make the trial easier for the young padawan. As Merryn related the humor Master Stusea found in the rather characteristic and frank revelation of her peer's inner workings, she was interrupted before she could finished. Her first trial was complete.

During a mission with Val'taros in 3975 BBY, Merryn found herself set upon by a pack of Tuk'ata. Outnumbered and separated from her master, the twi'lek Jedi fought the sithspawn off until her master could arrive. When the Jedi Knight found his apprentice bleeding profusely and nearly dead, he slew the creatures and rescued his student. While still unconscious from her injuries, the Council determined that Merryn could have easily ran away from the creatures rather than face them, allowing them to endanger one of the civilians that the Jedi were asked to accompany. For this they determined that she passed her Trial of Courage. For her wounds, it was determined that she had passed her Trial of Flesh.

In 3973 BBY, while on a mission with Val'taros, Merryn found out that the Tuk'ata that nearly killed her two years prior... had in fact been under the domination of her master. That he had fallen to the Dark Side of the Force, and in setting the sithspawn upon her, he had hoped that it would endanger her to the point that she would give in the Dark Side's power, and use it to defend herself.

Merryn had known for years of her master's... feelings for her. She had assumed that he was unaware that she knew, when in reality he was purposefully projecting his emotions onto in an effort to make her return them. When Val'taros determined that her self-imposed barriers to emotion were too strong, he sought to erode them. In his jealousy and desire for her heart, the fallen Jedi sought to subtly bring her towards the path of the Sith; the path of unrestricted emotions. Once she gave in fully to her feelings, he believed that she would fall for him when their feelings combined.

After a series of words, the pair began to duel. Merryn was outmatched by the experienced Jedi Knight, unable to best him. Furthermore, he sought to use the Force to weaken her resolve and project more of his emotions onto her. Ultimately he could not overcome her mental barriers and gave into his jealousy and rage. It became apparent that he was going to fight to kill, to deny the galaxy of the woman who denied him. Eventually, these feelings overwhelmed her barriers, and the two fought with all the ferocity of the Dark Side.

In the end, she was no match for the seasoned warrior. Val'taros brought his blade to bear, pouncing upon the opportunity to decapitate the twi'lek. This attack would have left him open to a thrust from Merryn's lightsaber to his heart. He could have easily blocked it, but chose not to. Rather than allow both of them to die, however... Val'Taros, in one last final act of compassion for the woman he loved, deactivated his lightsaber and it passed harmlessly by while Merryn drove her blade through his chest to the hilt.

Ultimately, when the events of that day were related to the Dantooine Council, who then offered it up to the Jedi High Council in Coruscant for review. In a seven to five vote, it was deemed this feat was worthy of both the Trials of Skill and Spirit; for defeating a powerful Jedi Knight, and resisting her own emotions as they were being manipulated. Many on the Council objected, saying that she won only by the grace of Val'taros' mercy, and that in the end his anger transferred into her heart and caused her to impale him fatally when a non-lethal option was available.

By 3973 BBY, Merryn was shrewd, calculating, skilled, and at peace with the force and herself. She was a Jedi Knight. Then she met Revan for the first time, and her heart was swayed to his cause.

Character Traits: A striking Jedi woman, beautiful by human standards and almost obscene by Twi'lek standards, with a pair of unadorned head tails that extend almost down to her rear. Complected a colorful fuscia with striking crimson eyes and freckles upon her cheeks. Lithesome and graceful, with wide hips and a generous bosom, she has been considered a peerless beauty and the cause of many wistful sighs.

Character Flaws: Merryn can be indecisive and lenient. She has aroused the concern of a few other Knights by tolerating actions in her padawans that most would not. Though she is habitually influenced by others' emotions, she refuses to acknowledge them publicly, often speaking falsely about what she feels in her heart.

Linzi Madaline

Linzi Madaline grew up on Coruscant.  Her family's buisness was flying taxi cabs.  When not going to school or relaxing  at the arcade playing first person shooters, Linzi would work the family buisness.  She didn't just flying the swoop-cabs.  She maintained and restored them--and the droids that worked on them. 

At the start of the Mandalorian Wars, Linzi enlisted in the republic's army out of a sense of duty, and also because she'd made a study of the Mandalorians and felt that the Neo-Crusdaers were a betrayal of a life style she'd actaully admired.   

Linzi impressed Leiutenant Comander Ruteger Dax with her resourcefulness and determiantion.  She was given special training to serve in his comando unit.  Equiped with better armor (corellian power suit plox?) and the chance to customize her kit. 

  Along with being very skilled with Rifles and martial arts, Linzi is a tech specialist and skilled in vehicular combat.

Muse; I like it. That picture's cute, even if she's wearing dirty beskar'gam.  ;)

How do you expect her to act around the Jedi? What's her outlook on them? Personality quirks? Ons/offs? Same on the Mandalorians- she hates the Neo-Crusaders, but the just-plain regular Crusaders are still around. Why is she so interested in them?

With the sheer amount of abilities and feats that come from the numerous books, can everyone please annotate what book their feats/abilities are from?

Also, the PCs will be pretty much given free access to any of the armor and weapons of the Republic (Pg. 179 of the KOTOR book), others may be requisitioned by request. Consider anything in the KOTOR book pretty much a given, and anything else on a case-by-case basis. The Jedi Armor in the Academy Training Manual is definitely an old-school thing taken from the comic books, so they're in too.

It's in the fine print, but Jedi Knights DO get access to the armor specialist tree of the soldier. I will make it a point that a lot of NPC Revanchists have begun using armor and even blasters. Wearing armor protects you even if you're flat-footed or unaware of an attack (useful when Neo-Crusader armor comes with stealth field generators standard...) and waving around a big glowing beacon as your primary weapon tends to invite the fire of every single Mandalorian that can see you...

So there's two house rules I am considering...

One is that whenever you take Force Training, you will get (for free?) one power that MUST have the dark side descriptor. The idea being that there is always that temptation to tap into the Dark Side.

The other is a simple combining of two lore-based feats into one. Well, technically four.
Grand Army of the Republic (Clone Wars) and Mandalorian Training (KOTOR) are combined to represent the Mando's. (It would still requires the Charging fire as a prerequisite)

Republic Military Training (KOTOR) and Separatist Training (Clone Wars) are combined because the Galaxy isn't quite in a state of civil war. Huzzah for the lore-friendly feat combinations!

The other thing I am mulling over is whether or not to include that long scene in the OP at all. Personally, I'm of the opinion that the proposed 'chase through Coruscant' would be interesting and dramatic as if it were from a screenplay, it might not be the best thing for an introductory scene in this sense. It wouldn't address why a soldier and some Jedi are hanging out together.

Therefore this scene might be better advised to take place after we do a bit involving all the PCs together in much more peaceful circumstances. Perhaps them just hanging around with their liaison when they get the call that something big is going down at the senate.

Or the PCs could all swarm in on the event from different directions. The Padawans might be together (at the senate building watching boring senate stuff go on?) while the soldier/liaison gets an SOS call from the outmatched local security forces. In this case, I'd probably hold off on introducing the Jedi Knight or I'll quickly have her dispatched by (bad) luck, for the sake of balancing the encounter.

The other idea is starting with the Jedi still in the temple, making their final decision to stay or leave the order. The soldier could at this time be told that they are being reassigned to their new position.

As someone who was considering a character who may be especially vulnerable to the Dark Side, it's always nice to have the door open.  I like that houserule.

I don't know enough about the two feats to make a judgment on the second house rule, but making feats more powerful always speaks to me.

Okay, some of the healer stuff had to be omitted, because I'd missed the fact that Jedi don't actually get the Treat Injury skill as a class skill. It looks like that was from a special background everybody got to select in the other game. I moved that skill training and focus to Endurance, instead, although I kept the Force-powered healing.

Details

Personality: Calm and polite, s/he hides her/his worry that s/he wasn't good enough for her/his previous Master well. S/he's not as adventurous as some of the other padawans s/he's met, although s/he feels quite strongly that the Jedi have an obligation to protect those in the galaxy who cannot protect themselves. S/he has a nagging worry that s/he let her/his former Master down, despite her/his progress since then, and has made sure to keep up her/his practice with her/his lightsaber, still the one originally given to her/him by Master Emell, in order to keep her/himself up to the standards he required.

History: When Nory/Anesk was barely a toddler, then-Knight Emell, a male Twi'lek, was on a mission assisting local security forces investigating reports of an extremely dangerous band of smugglers operating in the Outer Rim. While tracking a lead on the moon Jarkonn, he was aided by a slave named Manoi. While Emell had no legal standing to free the man, he did meet his family, and sensed the connection to the Force that his daughter/son had. Freeing the family would cause trouble he couldn't afford, but taking their child back to the Temple for training was something he felt he could get away with. With the family's blessings and thanks, he took their daughter/son with him back to Coruscant when he left.

Nory/Anesk progressed in her/his training well, and when it came time for Emell, now a Jedi Master, to take on another padawan, he chose her/him. He was a very physical man, and the times he did call upon the Force, he tended to go for direct action, pushing things, manipulating things, knocking them back. He was skilled with his lightsaber, some of which he managed to pass on to his padawan. Nory/Anesk, however, found her/his time apprenticed to him somewhat frustrating. While s/he gained a great deal of endurance, s/he never seemed to develop much strength, and while s/he learned to handle her/his lightsaber gracefully, s/he could never match his brute power. Meanwhile, her/his Force powers never seemed to get much better. S/he struggled to move objects at all, much less hurtle them like he could. Still, s/he went out with him as he sought to bring some small patches of light to a galaxy that sorely needed it.

On one such mission, paired with another Master and padawan, her/his fellow padawan was injured. Drawing on old lessons from the healers, s/he did her/his best to help him, while their masters dealt with the attackers. When they had dispatched their foes, they discovered that Nory/Anesk, while now somewhat drained, had managed to stabilize the other padawan. Once they returned to the Temple, the Council set about retesting her/him, and discovered her/his talents. While s/he was not strong when it came to telekinesis, s/he had some skill with absorbing and transferring energy. It was felt, with time and attention, that such skills could be further developed. Master Emell was chastised for failing to provide the training s/he required, and s/he was transferred to another Master, under whom it was felt s/he might better learn. (This can be either Merryn, or another Master, who s/he'd presumably be leaving in order to go fight the Mandalorians.)

Nory Details: Taller than average for a woman, with white skin and lilac eyes. Her gray hair is a little short of shoulder-length, and kept in loose tails to keep it out of her face. She has none of the piercings or tattoos that are common amongst the other scattered escapees from Arkanian genetic tinkering. She is slender, with little muscle, a pretty, pointed face, wide eyes, and an upturned nose. Her ears poke out from stray strands of hair, sticking out just a little from her head. Despite her lack of musculature, she has a surprising amount of stamina, and has often been able to keep going at a task longer than others expected from her.

Anesk Details: Just a sliver above average height for a man, with white skin and gray eyes. He keeps his white/gray hair cut short, and slightly messy. With his Jedi upbringing, he lacks the piercings and tattoos common to most Arkanian offshoots. He tends toward slender, without much muscle mass, with a strong jaw and straight nose. He often looks amused, regardless of his actual mood. Despite his small frame, he has a great deal of stamina, and can often keep going after others would have to rest.

Relationships

Master Emell: Former master, Emell fell into something of a father-figure role. Nory/Anesk knew that he was the one who rescued her/him originally, even if s/he had no memories of the event. S/he was delighted when Emell chose her/him as a padawan. Nory/Anesk worked tirelessly to prove her/himself to Emell, but s/he was hindered somewhat by the genetic tinkering that had produced her/him. Created for agility and stamina, s/he had a hard time building any strength, and had to develop a different style with the lightsaber than her/his master. Force-wise, s/he was always falling behind. While Emell never seemed disappointed, only mildly concerned sometimes, s/he berated her/himself constantly for failing her/his master. When s/he was removed from Master Emell's tutelage, it took her/him a long time to convince her/himself that s/he hadn't failed the man. S/he still looks forward to occasionally seeing him and catching up on events since their last meeting. Emell himself seems somewhat ashamed for failing to spot the talents of his padawan, but proud and relieved that s/he has found a teacher that was able to coax out her/his abilities. He secretly still checks in on his former padawan outside their occasional conversations. Emell never went into detail with his padawan about where s/he came from, worrying that s/he would go off on a crusade to free her/his family, which he worried had enormous potential to be a pull to the Dark Side.

Padawan Baxxus: Baxxus is a male Devaronian, and was the padawan that Nory/Anesk saved on that fateful mission. They remained in contact since, and have remained friends. Baxxus is a very conservative Jedi, and strives to meet the rules set forth by the Jedi Council. If asked, he would deny having any friends, but he would relent if pressed. He feels that the Jedi should strive to avoid all attachment, and often is frustrated with himself for being unable to do so. The Council is somewhat concerned that his failure to live up to the strict standards he's mostly setting for himself could drive him toward the Dark Side, although he seems to be relaxing somewhat as he gets older. Around the same age, Baxxus and Nory/Anesk have been on a few missions together, as well as practicing with each other at the Temple. Baxxus, in a moment of personal weakness, was the first person that Nory/Anesk kissed, after making a breakthrough practicing with the Force. (Nory doesn't care for him romantically, and Anesk is straight, so neither of them would have particularly enjoyed the surprise kiss). Neither of them brings this up again. Baxxus is frustrated that his friend wants to fight against the Mandalorians. Nory/Anesk is frustrated that her/his friend seems to think the ideal Jedi is a hermit with no care for anybody or anything but the will of the Force.

Nemer Alath: The Arkanian who owns Nory/Anesk's family. He doesn't know where s/he is, but he knows that somewhere out there is an Arkanian Offshoot Jedi, who was stolen from him. He knows roughly what s/he looks like, since he's quite familiar with her/his family, and is quite unhappy about all this. Likely not actively tracking down Nory/Anesk, but if he finds her/him, he just might make trouble. Nory/Anesk does not know about him at all, aside from the fact that somewhere out there is somebody who owned or owns her/his family.

Merryn: Merryn was actually Nory/Anesk's first crush, seeing her in the halls of the Jedi Temple. Later being assigned as her padawan certainly did not help things there, and s/he spent quite a lot of her/his teens worrying that her/his master could tell what s/he was thinking. Especially since s/he knew that she could. Daydreams were mostly, through sheer force of will, kept to a minimum, but night dreams were somewhat harder to avoid. Nory/Anesk's first (and so far only) illicit relationship was with another young padawan named Nym'alav, who bore a slight resemblance to Merryn. Upon actually realizing this, s/he broke things off with Nym'alav, and hoped desperately that Merryn hadn't realized any of what had been happening. Now, somewhat older, Nory/Anesk appreciates her skill at teaching in a way that works for her/him, and for having shown her/him what s/he's actually capable of.

If accepted, and anybody else wants to set up some shared backstory, let me know, and I'll be more than happy to talk about it!

How near-human? You say 'get away with it' like there's something that concern me- but it shouldn't be too big a deal. There's already Arkanians, which are practically space elves. I would expect Star Wars to have all sorts of near humans with minor distinctions.

I would prefer the gender ratio be evenly split, or in the case of 5 PCs, 2:3 either way.

As an aside, Destinies will be used. And they will be secret from the other party members. You can either PM me with your preferences and we can work them out OR...

I could plan a number of what are basically multiple choice dilemmas. After repeatedly following a specific 'road', your decision will put you on the track for a specific destiny. I have an idea of where this campaign can go, and there could be multiple endings, so to speak...

The way I usually try to GM is by having a very basic framework in mind, with branching pathways at certain points and then... nothing follows. Everything after that is character-driven improvisation. That being said, there is quite a bit of lore on the Mandalorian Wars and how they ended. As PCs, you can defy 'canon' or embrace it. My general assumption is that if the PCs are completely inactive throughout the game, history will unfold just as it did in 'canon' (So now's your chance to commit genocide against the Gungan race and prevent Jar Jar from proposing to give Palpatine emergency war powers!)

Whew. I digress. I do that a lot.

Here's the basic writeup:

The Kry are a Near-Human race most often found in caves deep beneath otherwise inhospitable planets.  Although they're welcoming and accommodating to outsiders, their penchant for living in absolute darkness creates a natural barrier to most interested races.

Common knowledge states that all Kry can see in absolute darkness, they have futanari and female but not male genders, and their own language doesn't differentiate between gender at all.  Many have difficulty in understanding the stratification in cultures between genders.  Every proper name also begins with a hard K sound, which aids others who seek to learn the language.




So, that would technically fit futa instead of male if that works.  I only have one picture for them that I reuse a lot.



Mechanical effects are Darkvision instead of an extra skill.

I don't mind switching my character's gender, if we need males and don't have enough.  :-)

With her skills, I don't see her as being the up-front fighter, but she can offer support to her allies, and should still be able to hold her own in a fight. I'd see her being more concerned about the civilians that are in danger than with the overall strategic concerns. She definitely is for the Jedi joining the fight against the Mandalorians, but not because she wants an adventure.

If one of the PCs is in it for fun, I imagine she'd still be willing to work with them. She might think a little less, but as long as they're both defending the weak and defenseless, well, they're both doing the right thing, yeah?

Not likely to take charge, but definitely stubborn about helping people. She'd be the type who works hard, and doesn't give in easily.

As for Destiny, I've never been great at picking one. I do like your proposal above.

Another tidbit; Merryn is extremely self-conscious about her force bonds. She met Revan once and he converted her into a Revanchist. The chances that he, with his great power in the force, inadvertently just dominated her, is not lost on her. Therefore, it is likely that when she spoke with her padawans about the war, she was trying her hardest to keep secret her own intentions. Indeed, she might have tried to talk them out of it with the hopes that she could demonstrate (to herself, at least) that she was being level-headed about the whole thing.

Any type of Republic Armor (KOTOR Pg. 179) with one Tech Specialist upgrade (Starships Pg. 21)
Commando Special Rifle with retractable stock (can count as a pistol!) with one Tech Specialist Upgrade

You can spend 3000 credits to instead get a superior tech upgrade (Scum and Villiany Pg. 24) but the Republic quartermasters don't have any modded civilian gear on hand. They'll install any regular upgrades (Scum and Villiany Pg. 37) for the cost of the upgrade itself.

Comlink, long-range  250  1 kg

A long-range comlink has a range of 200 kilometers or high orbit, and it
requires with a backpack-sized com set. For double the cost, a long-range
comlink can be miniaturized to a wrist-sized unit.

Video Capability: A comlink can have video capability (two-dimensional
images in  addition to audio) for twice the base cost.

So would a long-range video Comlink be 750 or 1000?  Also, would the miniaturization decrease the weight?

Mission-essential items would be provided for you, depending on the task. Obviously if high command will want to keep in touch, they'll give you stuff like comlinks.

But everything you spend on credits amounts to what you, personally, have bought and owned with your own money.

As for the cost, I would say it is doubled for miniaturization.. and then doubled again. So yes, 1000.

That reminds me...

My in-progress sheet for Merryn here. She's got Telepathic Link from the KOTOR book, meaning she can communicate conversationally to someone a kilometer away. Plus she's got the bonus to take 10 on a Use the Force check to communicate simple emotions to someone across the galaxy. My attempt to mechanically represent her strong force bonds. Though... having her as your mentor means there's likely to be very little secrets between you... any errant sexual daydream and she is the type of person to pretend it didn't happen (even though everyone involved knows it did)

I'd be interested in seeing a PC who was with her 9 years ago when she first became a knight and they first started their Jedi training, likely right in the middle of their puberty with all the accompanying hormonal urges. If they were particularly strong in the force, it'd have a profound effect on her... one that she might have difficulty forgetting, even after these years.

Kailen Feszler

Some of Kailen's earliest memories are of his father telling him stories.  Stories of heroes of the Republic.  Many of these stories were about Jedi, but not all of them were; after all, the Republic has many famous commanders, pilots, and soldiers with no ability to sense the force.  Perhaps it is in no small part because of these stories that Kailen is where he is today.

Kailen was born into a family on Coruscant, an old family, with a strong tradition of service in the Republic.  Both of his parents were in the Republic military.  His father was still serving as a commander, while his mother, a former starfighter ace, now taught at the academy.  Kailen's memories of them are brief, however, nothing more than images, and hearing those stories.  His father's position put him into contact with Jedi at a very young age, who easily sensed his sensitivity to the Force.  He has the vaguest memory of his father being proud, sensing it somehow, and that helping to ease some of the pain of being taken away from his parents.

As an initiate, and later as a Padawan, Kailen's performance was somewhat mixed.  He performed adequately in scholastics, and proved extremely skilled with the lightsaber, and his connection with the Force was very strong.  However, Kailen did not do things halfway.  He had intensely powerful emotions, and he quickly formed strong attachments with his fellow trainees.  Neither of these things, by themselves, would be bad, but taken together, and with the potential for either one of them to lead to the dark side, some of the masters were concerned.  However, Kailen seemed to mostly be putting these impusles towards positive outlets; the strong emotions that he felt were constructive, like compassion, and attachments were, after all, encouraged up to a point.  His training was allowed to continue.

At the age of thirteen, as is traditional for human initiates, Kailen became a padawan.  He was apprenticed to Knight Eomen.  Eomen was a sober, serious man in his middle years, much more focused on practicality than on spirituality.  In many ways, this was a good match.  The two got along very well, being better matched in personalities than it appeared at first glance.  Eomen taught Kailen a bit about self-control, an area in which Kailen was sorely lacking.  However, in some ways, Eomen exacerbated some of Kailen's problems.  Eomen was, first and foremost, a warrior, in the Jedi sense of the term.  He threw himself instantly and selflessly in the way of danger.  Jedi are, of course, supposed to protect those in danger, but with Eomen and Kailen, it was a bit too much like a crusade.  Kailen remembered all too well those tales of heroism that his father had told him as a child, and adopted Eomen's method of selfless intervention almost immediately.  The two went on a number of missions together, fighting side by side.  Eomen reported back to the council just how well his padawan was doing, and how brave and self-sacrificing he was behaving.

The Council was smart enough to read between the lines.  While Kailen had learned a bit of self-control, it was clear that being apprenticed to Eomen had not served to temper his overeagerness at all.  His apprenticeship with Eomen was finished.  The last Kailen heard, Eomen had been sent off on an important mission.  He hasn't heard from him sense.  This time, the knowledge that his father figure was proud of him was not quite enough to dull the pain.

This time, the Council apprenticed Kailen to someone who could better help Kailen to control his emotions: the Jedi Knight Merryn.  Under her tutelage, Kailen did learn a great deal about emotional control.  In part, this was due to her skill, both with the Force, and as a teacher.  It also became more necessary as he developed an almost painfully strong crush on the beautiful young twi-lek; many a night was spend under a cold shower while repeating Jedi mantras about romantic attachments.  It has largely worked, and Kailen has become a young man with a great deal of self-control, who thinks before he speaks, and has control over his emotions.  To some extent, anyway; powerful flashes of feeling can be sensed before he manages to surpess them.

In the end, it was exactly what the Council had predicted that led to him joining Revan.  His intense desire for heroism, and his compassion for those suffering, inclined him to join the fight already.  When Merryn joined, his personal connection to her cemented (plasticreted?) his convictions.

Kailen is a handsome, healthy young man of about twenty-one standard years of age.  He has short light-brown hair, generally cut neatly, although since joining in the Mandalorian War, he has let it grow out a bit.  He still keeps the padawan tail.  He has even, handsome features, with refined cheek and jawbones, obvious sign of his well-bred Coruscant heritage.  Kailen is tall and well-muscled, standing at a bit under two meters, with broad shoulders.  He throws himself into athletics with just as much enthusiasm as he does any other activity, and it shows in his figure.  He tends towards the wiry rather than the bulky, the tightness of his chest and stomach more noticable than his firm bicepts.  His eyes are a pale blue, bordering on gray.

Heh, I didn't see this before I got my background written.  Kailen would have had a few years with his first master, but I figured he'd probably start training under Merryn at age 16 or 17.  And yeah, daydreams included.

I did manage to find a suitable male picture last night, but Imgur was throwing a fit, so I didn't get it uploaded. However, if need be, I've got a new picture and name, to swap my character's gender. The only changes I'll make in that case would be pronouns, backstory, personality, and abilities will all be the same.   :-)

Edit- I've updated the original post with the submitted character. It's got pictures and names for each gender. I didn't make any real changes to the character sheet, if I'm picked, I'll update that as-needed for whichever version I go with.

Had an interesting idea last night, so I'm currently working on a male Zabrak wearing medium armor.  I'm going to try out the armor stuff to see how it rocks.

Something to ask, though: does Medium Republic Armor have 2 Armor Slots?  Powered Exoskeleton seems awesome, and between that, Durasteel and getting a superior upgrade, I'd be set for credits.

So, I've taken waaaaaaay too long, but I've got an idea that I came up with last night.  I need to polish it out, but here's his general idea.

Jekin Tor was born into Coruscant aristocracy, one of a few sons and many daughters.  He was found by the Jedi while misadventuring in the lower levels of Coruscant, and he drew the eye of an older Jedi Knight who happened to be willing to take the time to temper his willful nature with training and practice.

Given that the Knight who trained him is a Rodian, he's learned the importance of quick action and patience (though he struggles to balance his own desire to act with the proven value of patience). 

Specialties: Fighting with Pistol and Lightsaber, Staying Mobile

I've only got a primitive background, but I feel like I've got enough to go to character creation at this point.

For all the intrigue and high society life too common in the spires of Coruscant, the children bound by that high society inevitably look out at the world below them and get to thinking that the grass is greener on the other side.

An incorrigible lad was up to very little in the way of good.  Sure, he didn't plan on committing several crimes that day, but he had already slipped away from his minders and onto a turbolift meant for the 'lower' levels of Coruscant.  He had just enough credits in his pocket to get into a lot of trouble.

Really, though, he mostly meant to get some fried food and maybe hit the holo-arcade, not to witness the end of a chase between a Jedi and a group of fugitives.  And he certainly did not mean to get taken hostage, either.

However, at the right moment, he felt the instinct to stomp on the foot of his captor and followed through on it.  Before he knew what he was doing, the blaster was in his hand and he was pointing it at the person who had been pressing it to his head.

He wanted to say something cool like in the holo stories, but his mouth was dry and his hands were shaking.

When he returned to awareness, the Jedi had already hit the safety catch on the blaster he was holding, taken it from him, and said something softly in a language he did not understand.

He had never seen a Rodian up close before and, truth be told, the only reason he knew she was not going to eat him was because she was wearing a Jedi robe.

The lad sputtered nervously and apologized with grace his manners teacher never got him to display.

“I am Kelluka, youngling,” she spoke with some laughter, “you need not fear me...”

He answered, softly, “Jekin Tolar.” (LOOK UP NAMES FOR BETTER ALTERNATIVE)

Kelluka kept him company there until the authorities arrived for the three criminals, and took him home to face the scolding from his parents.  Naturally, they had him under proper surveillance for the next few days, until Kelluka returned.

While they weren't expecting her to offer to take him on as an apprentice Jedi...but it was not like he was the only heir to the family, either.

Encouraged by his family to take up the opportunity, he did so.

Kelluka had a wealth of wisdom for him to learn from (though he would not learn it until years later, she was sixty when she took him on as a learner), though some would criticize her for her decision to take on a learner so impulsively.  Jekin enjoyed the physical aspect of things greatly.  Training until he was tired, learning how to take things apart, and traveling were exciting to him.

Sure, there was danger along the way (the blaster he carried along with his lightsaber saw him through just as much as his wits and Kelluka's guidance did), but it felt honestly more fulfilling than his life at home ever did.  At the very least, he could take a long walk if he ever felt too cooped up in his chambers.  He did always wrestle at least a little bit with his haste, but Kelluka instilled in him an understanding of the importance of patience.  Though he never really came to understand how she was so skilled at tracking targets, ferreting the truth out of witnesses or co-conspirators, or finding her way in strange worlds, he could appreciate how her plans always seemed to work out. (though how well was always the issue!)

When the call for war went out, his Master told him that she would not stop him, but that she was far too old to go to war and that she did not think it was the right answer, in any case.  Though they parted amicably (both accepting that the other would not change their mind), Kelluka had a bad feeling about it...

So don't feel an incredible pressure to find the perfect picture for your character. I can just as easily just whip something up based off of your descriptions.

Flying Tengu: Looks good. A Jedi with physicality in the force would make for an interesting contrast to Kirby's and Carlissa's concepts (though I think that's only in my PMs...)

KirbysFolly: Keep both the genders in that description. Might be easier if I can choose between the two.

I can't remember off the top of my head. When wearing armor, does it replace your level bonus to both your reflex and fortitude saves? Or just your reflex?

Just reflex.  It adds to Fort, but you need to proficient or else you don't get that bonus.

It's a two talent dip into the Armor Specialist tree but you can get it so you add half again your armor's reflex bonus. Until then, it's just a bonus to fortitude.

I'm almost inclined to buff armor, but I feel like that'd be a nerf to the normie character... and soldiers in general. That and I want to keep the home rules down to a minimum.

So I've got a lot of concepts and I'm gonna start to narrow them down tomorrow. If you need more time, feel free to tell me and I can postpone making my decision.

Only counting the mostly complete sheets/concepts I've gotten so far, we have 1 female Jedi, 1 female or male Jedi, 2 male Jedi, and 1 female Republic liaison.

Karr - Zabrak Jedi

Karr was born as a love child, and he's been forced to come to terms with the truth that he'll never know who his parents were.  Not that that makes it easy.

So much of his life has followed a similar pattern.  Although he takes his training and tutelage seriously, he's never had an easy time in keeping his emotions completely in check.

He does, however, have a natural tenacity for defense.  In vast contrast to one might expect, combat is a release for him, a chance to put his pent-up energy to good purpose.




I plan to add more to this later, but wanted to give a basic writeup for the personality.

There was the idea that the Republic would offer the Jedi the same sort of training, really condensed of course, that their officers get. Recognizing ranks and the like. Of course it would include a crash-course on weaponry and the sort. I imagine quite a few Jedi during the early days of the clone wars were like, "Trooper, go.. uh... do the thing that you're able to do? Is that a rocket? I dunno. Fight good!"

Consider all crunch of secondary importance. You can post a fluff sheet just fine without anything mechanical and it won't effect my decision any.

All that being said, what is your opinion on crunch and homebrew?

After looking through Saga's crunch lately, I have found many grievances with it. I have been very reluctant to introduce any homebrew rules to this game because I feel like if I do, then I will be tempted to practically undertake an overhaul and the list of changes will be really large and terrible for everyone's bookkeeping.

But if you guys would want this...

The grievances;
- Nonheroic rules are nonsensical. A nonheroic 20 is CR 6, but has a BAB of +15 and 8 feats. Easy solution: Ignore them and make all NPCs heroic.
- Most PrCs have abysmal even levels. Base Classes are almost always superior. Force Techniques are bad. 10 levels in Elite Trooper gives you DR 5. Everyone gets a damage bonus equal to half their level... making it utterly inconsequential. They couldn't think of anything to do with the crime lord so they just gave them a talent every level. Solution: Bonus Feats? More Talents?
- The length of time it takes to hit those (largely useless) PrCs and the pacing of them. 7th level to hit one, and then 12th to hit the 'master' classes. Multiclassing can be a death sentence to your build, too. Minor gripe but the names are bad, too... Crimelord could just as easily represent an influential senator. A full HALF of PrCs are Force users.  Solution: Geez...
- The Elite Trooper's only unique talent tree is so steeped in requirements, feat or talent-wise, that it makes it quite useless for non-soldiers. The other talents it has access to, camouflage and commando... you could just get from Scout or Soldier class levels. You certainly aren't going into the class for its abysmal DR. Solution:  Bonus Feats? More Talents? Geez...

I should also explicitly request that Jedi can build lightsabers at 5th level instead of 7th, because it's part of the PrC.

Most of my attention has been on the Elite Trooper so far, mostly because the KOTOR book introduces talents for it that are thematically Mandalorian. But it's revealed to me that pretty much all the PrCs are bad. :P

But like I said, I am very reluctant to start making a lot of changes because once I do... I won't be able to stop.  ::)

Oh, naturally the lightsaber creation thing is a given- since that effects when you can spec into Jedi Knight.

Also, I have a pretty good idea about the party composition... well, at least on the Jedi side. It is agonizing that I have to turn people away, especially since I really like a lot of these character concepts.

Linzi is free spirited and flirty.  I can see her teasing the jedi a lot.  At first it would be gently--or even inadverntly--but if she fell for one (or more) of them, she might become actively seductive. 

Linzi's outlook on Jedi.  A good question.  I'm not sure what she would actualy know about them.  She probably has more contact wtih jedi from something similar to kung fu movies than in real life. 

So, there might be a bit of a fan girl response there, but she wouldn't idolize them the way she did the mandalorians.  (And therefore feel betrayed by them.)  A mandalorian warrior was something she could aspire to become.  They demonstraight strength, inegenuity, self reliance, and courage.  To become a jedi--in contrast--requires abilites alien to her. 

Linzi's ons and offs: 
She's bisexual, and not teribly monogomous. 
Linzi is free spirited.  The right level of unhibiited that sex in a car or a closet next to a crowded building would be a thrill--will someone walk in on us?  What will happen if they do?

As I imagine it, the Revanchists left the order for all intents and purposes but were still acknowledged as Jedi by the order itself and themselves. Excommunicating them might have been too risky and destabilizing when both sides still thought there was the possibility that they would return after the war, awaiting whatever punishment or forgiveness the order had.

Of course, we know it didn't end that way... The Jedi Exile only got a trial because they returned, and even then that wasn't even the real reason for their trial. Nobody was really condemned in absentia from the order, since I think the Jedi have a philosophy that anyone can be redeemed. They are just waiting for the Revanchists to come home, like runaway kids. :P

Looking them over, Force Adept suits Merryn much more than Jedi Knight, particularly since the Telepath tree in JATM is much more suited to her. I'm of the opinion that the six force-using PrCs could be better condensed to two classes just offering a wide variety of talents to represent the typical guardian/sentinel/consular stuff but also dark side devotees and the like.

Of course, this is an inadvertent nerf to other classes who don't have as many options. We all know space magic is OP, but even ignoring the Force Training feat... this index says there are 71 classes in Saga, and it looks like three quarters of them are for force users. Yeah, I know Jedi and the force are pretty much the central narrative focus of the franchise, but that doesn't excuse bad game design. :p

I'm really sorry to everyone who didn't make it in. It's always hard having to turn people away, but I'll put my reasoning below if you're curious.

The party;

TheFourthShade: Jekin Tolar (Scoundrel 1, Jedi 3)
Kirbysfolly:  Nory (Jedi 4)
FlyingTengu: Kailen Feszler (Jedi 3, Soldier 1)
Muse: Linzi Madaline (Soldier 5, Elite Trooper 1)

Again, really sorry to everyone else. :( The main criteria was pretty much just whatever would keep the game alive and everyone involved, so I didn't want any redundancy with character concepts (despite the fact that 3/4ths the main cast are Jedi :P) ...As I see it, Nory and Kailen are good foils to one another- spirituality and physicality of the Force- very yin and yang. Both have a connection to Merryn, being reassigned to her. Jekin is an outsider, perhaps never meeting the other three before the start of the campaign. He'd have that in common with Linzi, who seems like a match for his mischievous personality. The liaison's role was to show the normally cloistered Jedi how 'normal' people act and do.

And Merryn's 'default' personality is very stoic and in control of her emotions. She knows exactly how vulnerable her force bonds make her so she devotes a lot of energy to suppressing them.... but of course, all the PCs, even Linzi, will have an effect on her. I imagine the only reason Nory and Kailen were reassigned to her was because when the Masters looked at her they saw reflections of themselves and didn't see the danger giving such a person even one padawan.
