"Haute Couture should be fun, foolish and almost unwearable."

High Fashion is a highly competitive, merciless and relentless world. There are so many options, too. So many different plot angles and possibilities. People with very different personalities clash on a daily basis and it's not always nice and gentle, to move in this shark pool and not drown. Jealousy, resentments and the desire to stay on top make for a lot of conflict and interesting plots!

Basically, this is a group set in the Fashion World. We do not throw out full fledged plots on purpose. We rather want our writers to come up with their own stories and ideas!

What we are looking for:

  • All writers (Lords, Ladies and Lieges) are welcome. The gender/sex of a writing partner is irrelevant.
  • Level-headed, friendly and literate writers that like to plot and add own ideas to a story.
  • Character development, drama, plot twists, intrigue, jealousy, sensuality, loathing, etc. The fashion world is such an intense, relentless field, after all, and the possibilities are endless, really.
  • Ability and willingness to communicate. This will not work without communication and plotting. You must be able to come up with your own ideas. We are not spoon-feeding people.

What we are not looking for:

  • A story that centers around smut. We do not want to write porn. We want to write interesting stories, have the characters grow, develop relationships, etc. But we will not write one sex scene after the other. This is not an orgy and it won't ever be one. Sex will happen, very likely but... you get the drift.
  • Short posts (so far, all of our writers are multi para posters and we want to keep it that way.)
  • Passive writing partners. Collaborative storytelling requires plotting and good communication.
  • Out-of-character drama

Possible locations:

New York City - Paris - Rome - Berlin - London - Milan - St. Tropez.

Probably can happen in many different places. Doesn't have to be just one city. The fashion world is fast moving and has a home in many cities all over the globe.

Setting: Modern contemporary (no magic, monsters, superpowers, aliens, etc.)

Characters: All genders/sexualities/gender orientations/etc. welcome

Multiple characters allowed (as long as you can keep up with them, of course.)

Below are some links, if you are curious:

Wow! Just wow! :D

I recently created my own fictional city (you can get details here: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=232261.0) and one of the twists on it is that it has a very disproportionately large fashion and local gossip scene for a city it's size (Kinda like Florence) and is sometimes jokingly called the 'Milan of the East Coast' but this is usually just said to mock the people who take the whole thing too seriously. I would love to mine some ideas from this for New Lyonesse's fashion scene.

Regardless, I have three characters you might be interested in: very broadly the first is a gorgeous young female model named Andromeda Benson who is on the rise but comes from a very twisted background of a family she despises. The second is a mostly straight male (possibly model possibly photographer/designer) named Henry Poole who is the son of a still gorgeous and powerful super model with whom he has a very very close relationship like Buster Bluth from Arrested Development. FYI, I'm borrowing this character, with permission, from my BFF Amazon. The third is Sarah (formerly Sam) Savic a struggling (or once struggling) and extremely talented M-to-F transgendered model who suffers (or suffered) under the hand of her sexually sadistic, cruel, and abusive brother-in-law.

I could play just any of these characters with needed modifications or even more than one. I'd love to hear what you think! :D

Personally, I want to stick to real places. I get confused with fictional settings someone else thought up, and I like to have Google as resource, should I need to look up some information. Sorry.

I am a bit unsettled why you'd mention the 'sexually sadistic' thing, and I don't know who Buster Bluth from Arrested Development is, either.

Ron Don Volante

Oh I was thinking more just to get some ideas to add not that we should put it in New Lyonesse, I just thought it was a cool coincidence.

Basically poor Sarah has a troubled life with her abusive brother-in-law who did get very rough with her. I don't want to showcase this in the story, per se, but I do think it's part of her background and does affect her personality. And Henry has a very dependent relationship with his mother (like the character of Buster) and that can lead to some weird stares and disdainful jokes made at his expense. Basically, he's a mama's boy but this mama happens to be a powerful and dominating figure both in his life and the world of fashion.

Beguile's Mistress

You mentioned a photographer as a character.  What do you think of a man who has been traveling the world as a newsman visually recording the stories he is covering but who is becoming dissatisfied with life and his career?  He takes a break from hard news and as a favor to a friend and to make some extra money while he ponders his next step agrees to take on a shoot for a fashion magazine.  The models are a mix of men and women wearing clothes created by a new designer on the scene and as the shoot progress the photographer finds himself drawn more and more to the effect clothes have on the person wearing them and how the models can make the various outfits look good or bad through their poses and such.

It's an idea I had been toying with for years. :-)

I think this is sort of more what we were leaning toward.

Caehlim

What about a model who was last season's hottest asset? Chased by all the companies, getting all the awards and best contracts but now beginning to lose ground to their new upstart rival. A competitive and arrogant model with a chip on his shoulder about the industries short attention span and shelf life. Jealously hoarding the remaining contracts and prestige that he's holding onto and trying to sabotage anyone who looks like they're getting close to taking over from him. They'd be someone in the industry long enough that it feels like it's their entire life and that even though they're still young they know that their best industry years are behind them.

Okay here's the deal.

Kane and I will make this a very small group. We like some ideas here (especially Beguille's and Caehlim's), and we also got one or the other PM and thus, we decided to go the tiny group way - because it would be a damn shame, to let all those ideas go to waste.

Five writers, tops, at least for a start. We do not want this get too big, we rather want good writers. This won't be hectic, either. No ten posts a day deal. Of course, people can write more than just one character! We only ask that you can keep up with it. And if you can... the sky is the limit, really. Characters, NPC's, whatever. As long as you can handle it, it's all fine and dandy. And not all characters have to be dudes, of course.

More to come...

Nico

Thank you, everyone, for the interest!

We plan on keeping this small. If someone really wants to join and approaches us with a really good idea, we might make an exception!

Giving this a bump because one spot opened up.
