True but it would be RP for the Padawans dealing with it and decide to go to war even against the Jedi council orders

Hmm, not as crazy about the way droids are handled in this system.  I think I will play a different type of tech guy.  Starships are possible, as is hacking.  I could play a saboteur-type, going with stealth, demolitions and computers.  I am willing to play a padawan, since I think having two or three padawans makes sense, but I have a feeling we will have enough of those.

If I go non-Jedi, I am actually thinking of going with a higher resistance to mental effects (which I think points in willpower would give me).  I think that would be interesting for Merryn.  Also, if we decide to play a non-human, do we just use aspects for racial modifiers?  I have to admit that I like that better than the modifiers and special rules in SAGA.

EDIT:  There are some significant mistakes with the numbers in character creation.  Should we just follow the numbers in the table (20 skill points, 6 aspects, 3 adventures, 3 stunts) and try to divvy them out over training and multiple adventures?

I'd be interested in a Padawan, or even a Jedi.  If those are full I can play another role.  I saw kc's reply but I'm not sure if that means I'm in or not.

intersted in the game, though not a fan of the system

Since Merynn is much too savvy to allow herself to be put in a position where her biggest liability could be taken advantage of, me and shadow decided that his falleen character would likely be someone else's padawan that she ended up stuck with once they joined the war effort. For him I was thinking I could whip up an introduction as well, maybe his old master berating him and whatnot for being impetuous.

It is likely that the Republic officer would receive the same sort of treatment, perhaps with them being briefed on their assignment to be the Jedi's 'handler'

As far as who is 'in' or not, I haven't decided yet. Of course the game can't be too big... I feel that would diminish the attempt to have a very close-knit group who endures their trials together.

And yeah, racial attributed can be determined by aspects. The bold text in a race's description is a potential aspect. Here's the example sheet i have for Merynn, made under the veteran rules.

Merynn

Skills;
+4: Force (Empathy)
+3: Athletics, Melee Weapon
+2: Force (Telekenisis), Strength, Endurance, Investigation
+1: -, -, -, Blasters, Academics, Performance, -

Adventures: Troubled Childhood, Jedi Training, Mission to Korriban, Duel on Telos

Descriptive/Racial Aspects: Alluring, Endowed
Motivation Aspects: Revanchist
Career Aspects: Jedi General
Campaign Aspects: Hidden Past
Force Sensitive Aspects: Guarded Jedi Knight, Symbiotic Empath, Resisted the Dark Side

Stunts; Force Adept, Jedi Mind Trick, Lightsaber Defense, Traditional Lightsaber Style

If you plan on playing one of Merynn's apprentices, know that as of the start of the story, she'll be about 31 years old and will have been a full-fledged Knight training your character for as long as 11 years. I think everyone will be at novice level for the start.

Sweet.  I'll take a stab at a character sheet tonight for the trooper.

EDIT:  Here we are.  Not sure I am doing aspects correctly.  As for adventures, I chose one that Merryn was in as well since we are supposed to have tie-ins, though not sure if that's okay.

Ced Orcin

Race: Human (though he claims to have bits of other species as well)
Age: 25-32 (will settle somewhere in between based on preferences)

Skills:
+3: Computers, Willpower
+2: Blasters, Engineering, Starship Systems, Stealth
+1: Athletics, Endurance, Explosives, Investigation, Resources, Science

With Bonus Points: Melee, Games, Academics, Explosives to 2, Alertness 1

Adventures: Shipyard Showdown, "..." Goes the Dynamite, Mission to Korriban (with Merryn)

Descriptive/Racial Aspects: You're Out of Your Element, Donnie; We're Friends, Right?; Mutt of the Galaxy
Career Aspects: Come on, Just the Tip;
Force Sensitive Aspects: The Force is...Somewhere With This One; Even *I* Can't Get into My Head

Stunt: Saboteur, Proficient Under Fire (C), Reroute the Power

Those adventures I had listed for Merynn were mostly just the significant things in her life; being nearly killed by sithspawn and then dueling Val'taros. But I'm not really too concerned about the adventures thing. Seems like a weird sort of dynamic... you could have a kung-fu monk who has achieved enlightenment without any 'adventure', though if you call his ascension adventuring.. I can see how it might be helpful in the creative process, but it isn't to me.

If you have any ideas about what sort of adventures they might have had together, I'm all ears.

The Jackal

So you want us to drop the Adventure-based design?

Inerrant Lust

It's irrelevant to me is all. :P

If I recall, it should roughly still come up to;

Power Level; Novice, Skills; 20, Skill Cap; +3, Adventures; 3 Aspects; 6, Stunts; 3

But yeah, there's no need to pigeon hole yourself by asking "What did he learn in this adventure?" :P

Inerrant Lust

That's fine, I have to go to work in a bit anyways  ;)

I am thinking a young  Cathar Padawan that has been training along the path to become a healer.
Jesiferia didn't start out to become a healer. Like most  Jedi she learned to use a lightsaber as soon as she could hold one in her hand. She had been on the path of the warrior until she went on a rescue mission to help a stranded ship (The grand legar). It was on this mission she got her first taste of death and dying. The entire crew except one person was slaughtered. The crewmen left alive had been tortured and left as example to others, he died in her arms soon after with her unable to do anything about it, but watch him slip away. Seeing the so much death made a profound change in her. She decided she would dedicated herself to the healing arts of the Jedi. She is a very strong Jedi in the ways of the force and skilled in the tradition Jedi ways, but had very little contact outside the order except for a few missions of mercy. As of late she has been disturbed by dreams of Cathars being slaughtered in mass genocide style attacks. The visions have prompted her to start making a new lightsaber out of living materials. The Visions  troubles her greatly and makes her the strong recruit to go to war.

Jesiferia Grad

I see her as a 15 or 16yr old Cathar Padawan. Troubled by Visions, looking to find out what they mean and stop them if she can.

Living Lightsaber: (Emerald Green Blade)
With the Visions of Cathar genocide, Jesiferia is now beginning to understand Merynn’s prediction two years ago. She has secretly undertaken the task of constructing a new. She is using organic material to construct her Lightsaber for three reasons. First is that organic components have a stronger connection to the living force and second and almost as important they are very hard to detect without a bioscanner, the most important reason is that it is to remind her life is precious and to take a life is only done under the most grave of circumstances. It is better to risk death to heal a life that to extinguish one out of fear. A Lightsaber is the last line of defense for a Jedi, but when you need it you need it, so the Lightsaber is designed to be drawn quickly.

Aspects:
Quick to Draw
Hard to Detect

Jackal; Sheet looks decent enough, I suppose.

What I'm most interested in is the fluff, however...

Trig; That would work well, I think..

Do the Jedi already know about what went on in Cathar? Also, if Jesiferia was always a padawan under Merynn, she'd likely have gone along with the mission to the Grand Legar. And possibly Michael Salem as well, if they're both her charges.

Do we have any hits for the Republic officer? Possibly kckolbe, Marie Reynolds, apygoos? :P

And I'd love to hear what you have in mind Aribeth, you seem like it might be quite fun to write with.  ;)

If she is having Visions, I would imaging they have not found out yet or the event hasn't happened yet. The slaughter of the Cathar is one of the first major events of the Mandalorian wars before they invaded the republic.. I am open to whether the Jedi know about it or not. The Jedi could know about it and have not released the information.

I am going to start writing more fluff for Jesiferia. More detail on her combat style, The Grand Legar, her living lightsaber and a little more about her training toward becoming a Jedi Healer.

I can see Merynn being on the Grand Legar with Jesiferia and if Michael Salem is in on it I am cool with it.

From the personal Journal of Jesiferia Grad

The Rescue of the Grand Legar

My Master, Jedi Knight Merynn, had been ordered by the council to go to a small planet on the rim to settle a dispute concerning the Hydian way trade route before they tried to settle it in armed conflict.  He decided that a diplomatic mission would be a good learning experience for me and my brother padawans. He always talked about the need for diplomacy over violence to solve problems and he felt I was too prone to jumping in with my light saber drawn.  Looking back I can see the wisdom in this. At the time I thought diplomacy was a thing only old people did at dinner parties.

We were 3 days out when we received a distress call for a ship called The Grand Legar. The message was an automated beacon repeating over and over that their engines were down and they need assistance. My Master, deciding the conference can wait, he set course for The Grand Legar. Coming out of hyperspace we found out why the ship was stranded. The Engines were destroyed and there were minimal life sign coming from the ship. We pulled up alongside and docked. When we opened the hatch, we found dead crewman everywhere. It was a slaughter. Many where shot with blasters at close range others were gutted with what looked like blades. The scene was something that will be branded in my memory for a longtime to come. Master Merynn had us split up and look for survivors. I was the unfortunate one to find the only survivor, the captain. He looked like someone had taken and tied off his limbs above the joints leading up to his knees and elbows and cut them off one by one. I could see pieces of him in a pile. I thought he was dead until up I heard a grown. I ran to him and cut him down. Tears in my eyes as I screamed for help. I had never felt so helpless in my life. All I could do was watch the last of his life slip away and cry. All my life I thought fighting and using my light saber as a weapon was the romantic ideal of being a Jedi. How could I have been so horribly wrong? Whether you cut them apart with a knife, gun them with a blaster or cut them up with a light saber you are still killing a living being. How could I have glorified that? I often wondered why Master Harlimani would always say “it is easy to kill and much harder to heal. If you want to be a great Jedi, learn to heal.” Now I know and a part of me wishes I didn't.

The memory haunts me even to this day. That was 2 years ago. It was after that mission I disassembled my light saber and recycled everything but the focusing crystal. I could see the hurt in Merynn's eyes when I told him I had put down the light saber, but he said he understood the reasons. His eyes got distant and he said “You are to train every day with a training saber to keep your skills up for one day you may have need of those skills to save many lives.”

We have:
1 Jedi Knight (Merynn)
2 Padawans (Jesiferia Grad {Guardian turning into Jedi Healer}, Michael Salem{Guardian, but no force (empathy skill) also 6 bonus points to spend}
1. Cred Orcin {Can do everything with a ship but pilot it}
We kind of need a good Pilot for the ship even if it is a Padawan Pilot, or a Han Solo type.

One thing, I believe the GM was trying to get to is the fact that the fate system is less number crunching and more creative endeavor. In Fate based game Aspects can be both invoked, to give you a bonus, and compelled, to make your character to something, by the GM. Invoking an aspect costs you a fate point for the bonus. Having the GM compel an Aspect gains you a Fate point. The best Aspects are ones that can be both invoked and compelled depending on the situation. In a fate game having flaws is a good thing in that it gains you fate points and gives you chances for dramatic role play.

The fluff/ backstory helps the GM compel your Aspects more in line with the character concept. That, I believe is his reason for his desiring fluff more than a character sheet at this point.

If people want to tie into Jesiferia’s adventures, I am all for it. We can get the story started before we get the game off the ground.

The Jackal

I'm still hammering out a few fluff details, and the bonus points I'm still debating about what to spend them on.  If it's okay with you Trig I would like to work out the adventure details with you.

Muse

Here's a work in progress.  I still need to flesh out her history a bit, but she's basicly a rich girl gone wild who rose to oppose the mandalorians after the death of her father.

Name:      Akadi Windsor
Age:      22
Race:      Human
Home World:   Diona Five-Three

Height:
Weight:
Measures:
Skin:
Hair:

Aspects:
Descriptive:  Girl Gone Wild

Campaign:  Armond Windsor’s little girl.

Motivation:  I’m looking for a Mandalorian with a mythosaur axe who led the strike against Diona City.  When I find him, I will say to him, ‘Hello, my name…”

Motivation: If I have to do a thing I do it right, with style.

Object:  This is my father’s sword.

Object:     (Some kind of cool ship.  Maybe a prototype being worked on by the Windsor company?  Or just a souped up, pimped out, and armored yacht?)

Pilot
Resources

2
Charisma
Contacts
Melee
Starship Weapons

Inerrant Lust

Trigg; A small note; Merynn is female.  ;)

Merynn's by no means finished, crunch-wise either. We may even start the game before the mechanics are worked out. The first scene at least for the Jedi will be the discussion between Knight and padawan(s) over their role in the coming battles.

I suppose a pilot or fast ship isn't quite necessary for the tone of this campaign. The Republic needs the Jedi. They'd be given all the resources they need to help in the war effort, from state-of-the-art starfighters to support staff. The fact that one young officer would be assigned to be the go-between the Republic and the Jedi is emblematic of their desire to make sure the Jedi are as comfortable leading troops into battle as possible.

I don't know how many people I'd want... I still haven't heard anything back from shadow other than a general concept, but I might go with no more than 3 or 4 people.

I am a victim of my own biased. I had not seen one way or the other for gender ,of what I read, and so I just assumed male. My apologies.

CarnivalOfTheGoat

Just a quick 'Hi!' to Inerrant Lust, KCKolbe and Muse.

I was in the prior game, but life mugged me either just before or just after we started, I forget, and I wasn't able to spend any time near computers for weeks.

I do think you're onto something better-sounding with this framework, I remember the previous one turning into a sort of list-gaming session in terms of platoon equipage, detailing of gear and militaria more and whatnot more than feeling focused on character growth, which it sounds as if this one is expressly focusing on.

I'd volunteer but I already have several irons in the fire and it looks like you've got plenty of interest already and are wisely keeping it small.

Best luck!

My O/Os. My A/As.
Games I seek:
Savage Worlds of My Little Pony <- Just what it says. Free supplement for SW. (Or any other MLP RP!!! :D)
Eclipse Phase <- Posthuman grit SF, open source, downloadable from their web site. VERY deep worldbuilding.
Cold City <- Espionage meets the Lovecraftian supernatural. Allies in post-war Berlin chasing down the results of secret Nazi experiments
a|state <- Post-apocalyptic sort-of-steampunk, sort-of-high tech roleplay in a massive, decaying, broken-down city-state.

Inerrant Lust

Mmhm, I'm always open to new ideas.

Also, just a quick question; what would everyone want to see out of this game?

Not only in terms of romance/sexiness but also plot, characters, scenes.

Primarily for the padawans, I see this could work as a 'whole new world' type of game. Having been taught to reserve your emotions, frown on personal relationships, be unattached to people and things and generally to remain chaste... I can only imagine that the padawans would feel a great deal freer without the dogma of the Jedi Code hounding them. The prevailing belief among Revanchists is that the Jedi are ultimately defenders of justice and peace- and the code-laden Jedi Council and their detached caution is contrary to what a 'true' Jedi ought to be.

Also, having a republic officer or whatnot assigned to the Jedi allows the same kind of dynamic; the non force-sensitive character isn't used to dealing with Jedi... particularly Jedi who might suddenly have all these curiosities and questions about life outside the code and the inclusion of the Jedi.

ShadowFox89

Lightsaber duels are always a must, as are starship battles. I do plan on my Falleen possibly having a small starfighter.... Technically it's classed as a light frieghter, but it's about half the size of a Firespray-class.

My A/A

AribethAmkiir

Definitely like the idea of the "brand new world" opening up before the Padawans.  Other than that blasters, lightsabers, fleet battles, action, romance, etc that I associate with Star Wars.  Everything I've seen suggests that this game will be heavily focused upon character development with the action and adventure mere vehicles to drive the plot and character development.  That's all I can really ask for.
