And now for something a little different.

I love a good fight. However, most of the RPs I have seen around here concerning such either seem to be lacking something or quickly peter out. Partly because I feel like people are spending too much time trying to "outdo" the other rather than trying to create a good narrative, or that the results would be determined by a random number and the narrative up to that point doesn't even matter.

There is something I have seen on a couple other sites before I even came to E that I would like to attempt here. If there is enough interest, perhaps even setting up an entire tournament under this format.

Character Creation: Anything and everything!

Fight rules: Each character gets 5 action posts. Respond to your opponents attacks, make your own, whatever you desire.

Results:  After each character has their allotted posts, a third party will then judge the fight and rate each contestant in the following categories:
Spelling and Grammar: Let's face it. At the end of the day, this is still a writing site.
Fairness: Essentially, don't god mode. Don't take control of another person's actions. Try not to dodge/soak up every single attack. A good fight is one where both contestants stand a chance, and its not one-sided.
Style: How well written the posts are, ability to describe the action so that it is easy to follow yet still captures a readers/spectators attention.
Creativity: How well you are able to adapt to your surroundings and the opponent. Do you do the same basic attacks over and over again, or is there some variety to it, using the environment to your advantage, etc.

The goal of this is more to make things enjoyable to write/read rather than simply "going for the win." I like to think of it as a pro-wrestling approach, where the result isn't as important as the story it tells.

What do you mean by five action posts? Do you mean, like, five posts in a row, or a post with five different 'actions' in it?

Like MissFire mentioned, but also potentially interested. Will need to find time between my stark raving DA fueled obsession atm to focus for writing though xD

I thought it meant five posts, back and forth between two players. For a total of ten?

pretty much, yeah. Trying to work with someone to get an exhibition going, so you all have a bit of an example.

I like it. Focus on select scenes. Part of the fun will be setting the framework for the fight, then just a five post commitment and you have a completed scene. Sounds fun.

Right now, I am not putting any limits on it. Lets just say that who ever is organizing this thing is pulling people from multiple times/dimensions/worlds/etc so anything and everything can be open.

Who the heck is Lady Death? :p

And I have a character as well in mind. I was going to use her for the new MK group game... but since this is available, maybe I can put her in this one instead since it's apparently more appropriate. ;)

Yeah, I think my Jason Voorhees I made for the other game will work here too, though he'll lose a lot of the character and personality by virtue of this one being purely fighty.

Neysha

Here's what I was thinking for a character. I did a write up for another RP initially so that's why it's already formatted into a layout.

Real Name: Veronica Santangelo
Profession: Scribe, Procurement Specialist
Origin: Alternative Earth
Resides: Mojave Wasteland.
Species: Human
Weapons: Pneumatic Power Fist, Overrated Wit
Fighting Style: Veronica Santangelo likes to soften her opponents with casual smalltalk on a wide array of subjects in a vain effort to disarm her foes with the power of dialogue.

When it comes to actual fisticuffs, she keeps her hands held high, leads with a left jab and prefers an artificially empowered right straight straight to the jaw or center body mass. She's also a proficient counter-puncher and emphasizes both a strong defense as well as looking for a big punch to land. While she prefers the right straight, she will mix it up with other power punches but rarely develops combinations as she is ultimately a powerful puncher and counter puncher. Unlike many modern contemporary boxers who maintain an orthodox defensive stance or roll behind their shoulders, her stance is a classical low one, sometimes to the extent of leaning forward and bending low. This was an amateur technique common in boxing competitions where landed hits were more important then effective hits. Due to the fact she has a pneumatic power fist on her right hand, she tends to reason maximizing her own ability to land hits and minimizing her own damage thanks to effective defense, lends well to this stance.

Alignment: She's a good girl.

Biography: Veronica Santangelo grew up in post-apocalyptic California as a member of the isolationist paramilitary organization known as the Brotherhood of Steel. Her parents were members of the Brotherhood, and so were their parents... and their parents and so forth to the extent that she was basically born into it. The Brotherhood of Steel has roots in the pre-Great War US Army and is dedicated to the preservation and acquisition of advanced technology, ostensibly for the protection of humankind from itself. Their zealotry in upholding their purpose of the preservation of technology and the insular nature of their organization has increased the paranoia of the group to the point of being almost hostile to outsiders. It was in this atmosphere that Veronica Santangelo grew up in.

Having lost both of her parents in a forgotten skirmish over something that likely seemed important at the time, Veronica grew up with a talent in three things. Punching people, procuring things, and fixing lost technology. Her effusive and extroverted nature combined with her sarcastic wit has annoyed many of her fellow Brotherhood members. Despite thinking of them as a family, Veronica always found herself at odds with her brothers and sisters in wanting to end their systematic paranoia and fear of 'outsiders' to little avail. Her progressive attitudes alienated her in some respects, and perhaps because of this, despite her other talents, she was made a 'procurement specialist' for the Brotherhood or basically a glorified shopper who purchases the mundane and sundry items that a militaristic society of quasi-religious techno-fetishists often overlook... like groceries and toiletries. Other personal tragedies plagued her as well, including the loss of her mentor, Father Elijah, and the departure of her one true love from the Brotherhood as well. (while the Brotherhood doesn't have anything against homosexual relationships, it is frowned upon considering the nature of the organizations limited genepool)

Recent events however have given her hope for the future. During one of her forays to the surface (her family lives in a bunker after all) procuring supplies, she encountered a Courier and on the spur of the moment, joined him in his adventures. Traveling side by side and occasionally with others, they fought the good fight, saved the day and defeated a great evil that threatened the livelihood of all of the inhabitants of the Mojave Wasteland, Brotherhood and Outsider. Despite this, she ultimately decided at this time to leave the Brotherhood. Despite the positive change that she had enacted, and the fact that the Brotherhood decided to ever so slowly open themselves up to having relations with the Outsiders, it was too little, too late for Veronica. Despite remaining friendly with them when she encountered their surface patrols, she decided her destiny lay on the road and spent her future looking forward, instead of focusing on the memories of the past. Her time on the surface gave her a taste for adventure, fighting the good fight and finding a new purpose in the future, seeking out new roads to follow, knowledge both new and lost and to deliver the gift of punching to anyone who she deems deserves it.

okay, so, ive started up an exhibition match between myself and Madame Professor, just so you all can get an idea of how this is going to be formatted.

This is a basic character sheet for what I will be using in this:

Name: Diana Frazier
Species: Werewolf

Equipment: Leather clothing, Steel Battleaxe, Combat Shotgun

Special Abilities:
Werewolf form - Turns into a half human half wolf, increasing strength agility and toughness, as well as granting access to deadly claws and fangs.
Regeneration - Minor cuts and bruises heal almost instantly. Anything more and while she will recover quicker than a normal human would, is still slow enough to not make an impact during the actual fight.

Weaknesses:
Silver - Damage done by silver weapons completely stop the regeneration.
Rage - As part of the amazonian nature of her upbringing, she is prone to falling into a mindless rage frenzy, more often against male opponents.

That was just a quick and ruidimentary thing. Not any sort of framework to go by or anything.

Also, since it seems like there are several people interested, if anyone else is interested in possibly being a judge as well, I would like to know. I'd like to get a fight or two in myself, and judging my own posts would most definitely be a conflict of interest.

Soon I'll be setting up an OOC thread. From there, we can start talking characters and hoping to set up an actual tournament.
