I've been enjoying a game of L5R recently and am playing with the idea of starting a game. Or if I am extremely lucky finding someone else to run a game for me.

I would presume because of the basis of the game, it would have little in the way of sexual content. But it will still be possible, and as I write this I can think of a few ways to use sex in game. So really, up to the people that are interested.

As for the history buff part, I know some things.  I own almost every published book of the 1st edition of L5R and every book published for 4th edition.  Yeah, I love Legend of the Five Rings. 

What time period are we looking at for the game to be set in?

Sex is fun, but I find that it bogs down a game very quickly as well all have to pull out the popcorn to watch.  Sex is great for tension, great to lower boundaries on what can be written, but aside from that its sort of meh.

I would also like to try for some type of Iaijitsu duelist.  For starters I love the mystique of them and also because this allows an element of politics that can come in play, since a duelist always gives weight to words.  Plus this would allow for politics without detracting from combat effectiveness.

all three concepts are encouraged to move in to development.
having a scorpion in your group will certainly make the duelist very busy.

We are going to start  shortly before Winter Court. The player characters will have been hand selected to group up and investigate rumors of unrest in the village chosen to host the event. I have a plan and a general idea of what will take place, but will mostly build the world based on actions you all take and letting them radiate outward. At start, no wars are currently in progress but tensions aplenty. 

And the conversation you ladies just had pretty much sums up implementation of sex in rokugan.
I don't get on as much as i used to, so any one off sex scenes will fade to black.
Anything done in front of the group will be played out quickly. [I'll send you a handful of rolls and the npc's intentions, you roll and respond accordingly.]
Anything between player characters, discuss what the end result will be and pm me. you have until my next post to finish, therwise fade to black or separate thread.

Also for sake of game staying active, After three days I will assume your action/response is 'do nothing, say nothing'.

TECHNIQUES:

RANK ONE: THE WAY OF THE CARP
The Yasuki are masters of commerce and practice it far more
openly than other samurai families; they do not consider it
to be a breach of etiquette to engage in open commerce. You
gain a Free Raise when using the Commerce skill, and you do
not lose Honor or Glory for using the Commerce skill even

Well, if we are going to pursue an investigation type group then maybe we should look at making characters to really compliment the group's purpose and make ourselves diverse.

I would think we would need something along the following lines.

1. Investigator ( The Dragon of course come to mind with their Kitsuki Investigators, but also the Crane and Scorpion magistrates would be good here.  Another likely canidate might be the Kuni as they do produce both shugenja and Witch Hunters).

2. Political informant ( A Crane or Scorpion courtesian would be good here since they can mingle and information gather at the upper echeleons of society.  Their wits and ability would open doors needed to further an investigation and to also smooth over ruffles feathers.)

3. The common man (A character to associate with the common folk, the peasants and merchants.  This person could also do the "dishonorable" stuff such as sneak and follow people.  Ronin come to mind here, but also the Scorpion are a clan specialized in doing what has to be done.  There are also the Sparrow for their pull with the common people, merchants that might have sway with their money and power)

4. The mystic (Someone to commune with the spirits for answers and give the group a supernatural edge.  Plus, magic is always useful.  The Phoenix would be big here, but also perhaps the Crane with their emphasis on peaceful relations with the spirits.)

5. Muscle (Things have to get done and people don't always like doing them.  A fighter, through and through would be useful.  Honestly, I think the Dragon might be best here since their swordsmen operate well without armor and are feared for taking on multiple opponents.  A Lion could also work well with their percision and focus on duty.)

6. Duelist (Yes, I know I wanted to be the duelist but I do believe one is necessary, especially for investigation games.  Simply put, disagreements are settled with duels.  None are better than the Crane at these rigid formalities unless perhaps the Dragon.)

 Well, Pumpkin, if you don't want to double up on character types, I was thinking of switching to a Dragon Bushi (I can pretty much keep the stuff I have, just changing some bits around).

Though, from what I understand, the Dragon and Crane primary Bushi schools (the Mirumoto and Kakita) are rivals and there'd be a bit of tension between the two.


edit: And my preference is always for players to play what is 'fun' for them, rather than worrying about trying to hammer everyone into a good mix.

Duelist is a fairly specific focus.  So when three people identify their characters as duelists, that is three seperate characters focusing on the same type of combat.  This is three different people saying that their characters are all focused on iaijutsu duels.

I think I will try for something different since the duelist seems so popular.  Thinking perhaps an investigator from the Kuni family, a shugenja perhaps.

I wanted to go with something simple, and melee characters are usually the easiest to make. If I go Dragon, my character isn't just focused on duels but fighting close combat in general. Plus the small amount of social stuff.

Crane would be a bit less of general combat (no defense skill) but a bit more of social. And I was planning on taking Sacred Weapon.

If you don't mind a random comment dropped in, having a shukenja in the party really helps. If you've not played before, combat in L5R is pretty lethal, and having someone who can instantly heal is REALLY useful :)

Based on my experience, there will be swordplay, character death, strange creatures, non-consent and bondage.

Hmm could have come from insulting a kami or maybe you to protect someone in your family or under your charge you offered yourself up to save them from being cursed by a kami and for the sacrifice you performed an ancestor spirit bequeathed sacred weapon to assist you.
