No worries.  Just wanted to make sure we are all on the same page.

"Sorry, you must survive at least 3 games with me before we can chat like this."
Congratulations, you've unlocked Flirtatious Crash! - Envious

Hazy Sky

You'll have my character sheet today Crash and unless I've misunderstood you there aren't any big issues with it to be resolved.
We are definitely stealing the airship as the starting point for our adventure, but we can always set that in the past and run a current scene as well if you prefer?
I'm planning to have the entire crew that has gathered around Captain Archer involved in that theft. Stealing an airship is a big job after all.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your captain as submitted for final approval. The famous, the daring Captain Nate 'Typhoon' Archer and his ship the Comet.

Captain Archer
Name: Captain Nathaniel 'Nate' Archer also known as Typhoon Archer
Player: Skyre
Concept:  Airship captain. Pirate. A man with a troubled past set on revenge, rebuilding his fortune and who is blind to the regard that his helmswoman holds him in. Will he succeed in his dream? Will his revenge turn to ash in his mouth? Will he ever notice the dark eyes fixed so adoringly on him?
Trouble:  Piracy, impersonating an officer of the law, grand larceny, petty larceny, illegal use of a firearm, bootlegging, bilking. On a personal level he also suffer from black moods, bouts of depression. Oh and his ex wife ran off with his hated rival.
Sex: Male
Age: 35
Orientation: Straight.
On’s: I'm not sure he understands this question. Sarah his wife is his only point of reference and she was interested in his money and his fame rather than him.
Off’s: Violence does nothing for him and he will not respond well to anyone trying to master him. Again he doesn't really understand the question though.

National Affiliation and Ancestry:
American by birth. He actually speaks with an English accent as he was raised in a small community that was relatively isolated until the first airship came to town. An event that forever changed Nate's life. His accent does on occasion get him into trouble with people who mistake him for a 'Limey'.

Appearance:
Hair: Sandy blonde.
Eyes: Blue.
Height: 5 foot 9 inches.
Weight: 75 kilogrammes.

Description: Nate was invariably smartly dressed. As an airship captain this was expected of him, but his wardrobe has become considerably more varied since he fell on hard times and he seems to have enjoy that freedom. He shows no sign of returning to society's expectations of a Captain, pirate or otherwise. He does own both a smart suit and a Captain's uniform of his own design, but he seldom wears either except to formal social events or if he wishes to impress someone.
Generally he wears a shirt, dark trousers, jackboot and a silk lined leather jacket. His personal grooming has become similarly erratic.
He owns and carries a two braces of Beaufort -Adams 54 bore revolvers that have been adapted to fire brass self contained cartridges. All four revolvers have been rebuilt in San Francisco and then elaborately etched in India. He generally wears one one brace at a time in a battered set of leather holsters one under his left arm and the other on his right hip. He only wears both braces during boarding actions or if he wants to appear particularly ferocious.

Personality: When he's on the bridge of the Comet Nate appears to be calm and perfectly under control, if very formal. That is because he is never happier than when he's in the skies and in command. On the bridge he seldom loses control, but he can become snappy if his orders or authority is questioned.
When he's off the bridge Nate is much less formal and more approachable. He could never be described as easy going though. He forms opinions which he seldom moderates and his behaviour deteriorates alarmingly when he has been drinking.
There is invariably something going on at the back of his mind and his 'misfortunes', namely the loss of his business and his ex wife to his hated rival Dr Walter Ravenscar can cause him to become very gloomy and depressed, especially when things are not going well or he has been drinking heavily. His hatred for Dr Ravenscar runs deep and given the chance, Nate would kill him.
Nate is a natural Airship commander with an instinctive and in depth understanding of handling an airship and for the sky and the weather that surrounds it. However he's a poor businessman, not well suited to administration and paperwork and whilst he is a good shot he is not trained in hand to hand combat or the use of a sword.
He organises his crew in a slightly unusual manner. He is aware he has "shortcomings" , so all members of the crew are free to express opinions at "Councils of War" Or to him in his cabin. His authority as captain remains absolute, but he takes the advice and opinions of his crew seriously before he makes decisions.

Background: Captain Nathaniel Archer was once an honest man. He joined the Pacific Coast Line as a junior officer, but rapidly worked his way up to the rank of Captain through hard work and obvious talent. At the age of 28 he met his future wife Sarah on the first trans Pacific cruise. They were married the following year and she convinced him to set up his own business. It was nothing short of a disaster. Within two years Nate had lost everything including his wife and his airship to a man he had come to hate; Dr Ravenscar. He has taken on a variety of apparently menial roles and skippered a few bootlegging runs that have netted him a decent income. If anyone had been watching him they would have had a hard time figuring out exactly what he was up to. The announcement of the sale of the Star of India to a new consortium headed by Dr Ravenscar and a Captain Harper has been the trigger for his well laid plans to come to fruition. Captain Archer is turning pirate.

First Adventure:  Nate is most famous as the first and only Captain so far to take an airship through the eye of Typhoon and survive. The ship itself barely survived the experience and was scrapped as a total loss afterwards, but neither she nor her crew were lost to the ferocity of enormous storm thanks to the skill and courage of her captain who never left the bridge in the 48 hours it took to escape the storm. That escapade earned him a degree of public fame, which he didn't particularly care about and a lot of recognition from his fellow airship captains, which he did. Even now his name carries a lot of respect with the right people.

Airship:
Captain Archer spent a lot of time in the sky docks and the patent office before he settled on the Star of India or as she is now known the Comet as the target for his audacious scheme.  The Comet is, or rather was a newly commissioned mixed cargo Clipper rigid airship of the advanced 'Airflow' design that resulted from complex computations on banks of analytical engines. She was built to make the long run across the Pacific to India for the Tea harvest and return it to the West coast in prime condition. She was stoutly constructed to survive the turbulent air over the Pacific Ocean and the Indian subcontinent. Star of India was built for speed and manoeuvrability at the cost of cargo capacity and crew comfort.
At least that was the case until Captain Archer took over the passenger quarters for his crew and converted the former crew's compartments into a magazine, workshop, fliers launch bay, fuel bunkers, store rooms, training and briefing rooms. After the remodelling was complete he renamed the ship the Comet. The former passenger suites are richly appointed and spacious. There are several communal areas including a dining room, lounge and smoking room.
Perhaps the biggest external change to the Comet is the addition of a formidable arsenal of weaponry. She is unusual in that the main armament is not the standard rifled breach loaded recoiling cannon or field gun. These are immensely heavy and then require additional heavy reinforcement of the hull to withstand the shock of their firing. Captain Archer taken a more unusual solution of mounting rocket launchers fitted with a radial recoil deflectors and two stage rocket motors. The design of which has has also stolen. The eight of the twelve launchers are concealed within the gondola, only being revealed when in use. A pair is fixed to fire from the nose and another pair from the stern. They are concealed for the purposes of disguise and more importantly streamlining the hull. These trade range and a degree of accuracy for greatly decreased weight, decreased maintenance requirements and an increased rate of fire. Unfortunately they're not entirely reliable and are prone to both going wild and failing to explode on impact. There's about a ten percent chance of each happening. The Comet also mounts a two pairs of gatling cannons for close quarters defence.

Loves and Skyre's characters are approved.

Skyre having the heist play out in the History section is a really good idea.  That way we can get the thread for your ship up and running as quickly as possible.  Do you have any pictures in mind for it or do you want Madame and myself to find something for you?

Yay! Thanks Crash and Madame. I'm thinking the logical starting point is on the ship just before they try to steal it with Captain Archer having a convenient flashback to explain his plan and how the ship to will be run and organised afterwards, how the loot is split up, that sort of thing. Saves towing and froing with the risk of people drifting and gets straight onto some action for everyone. Guns, and swords and fighting and such, but still gives the Captain a chance to explain his motives and how his ship will actually work. Will that work for everyone?

Err...
I haven't even looked for a picture of the Comet as yet. I'll dig around tonight and if nothing fits for me I'll let you and the Madame pick something, but I'll let you know if that's the case. Do you want a blurb or description to go with the thread from me by the way?

I forgot to say that the role of Scout is half taken, cook is being shared between Loves and Jemady. Jemady's character is also down for spy. So the big open spots are strapping young men of any kind,  doctor, armourer or tinker/tinkerer and maybe sharing the role of spy and scout. The Comet is starting to look very well crewed though and depending on how much work being Captain is I may well fill up a vacant role myself. If there are any by that point of course.

Captain Archer has just explained his plan and how he's going to run his ship in the History thread. I may tweak this initial post once all other characters have been approved to add detail and personalise it a bit more than I can right now, but if anyone wants to jump in with backstory to get the ball rolling please feel free.
Stealing the ship will begin in the new thread once it's up of that suits everyone? I will discuss roles and orders for the capture of the ship for each character individually once they're confirmed. Captain Archer has a plan at this point.

Crash, what is the game start date? I don't think I've seen one mentioned anywhere. I'll try to get you the description tomorrow. It shouldn't be a problem.

Crash and Madame, here's the modified description for the Comet.
My Internet connection is a very intermittent for some reason tonight. Can use the description with a suitable image for now please?
I'll try to find one first thing tomorrow morning Apologies for having to be a bit awkward, but I can barely get online at all tonight.

Star of India was built for speed and manoeuvrability at the cost of cargo capacity and crew comfort.
At least that was the case until Captain Archer took over the passenger quarters for his crew and converted the former crew's compartments and cargo holds into a magazine, workshop, fliers launch bay, fuel bunkers, store rooms, training and briefing rooms.
The former passenger suites are richly appointed and spacious. Each crew member has their own comfortably equipped bedroom, small bathroom and sitting room with a view of the cloud sea outside. There are several communal areas including a dining room, lounge and smoking room. After the remodelling was complete he renamed the ship the Comet.
Perhaps the biggest external change to the Comet is the addition of a formidable arsenal of weaponry. She is unusual in that the main armament is not the standard rifled breach loaded recoiling cannon or field gun. For accepted characters, the plan to seize the Star of India is simple and is playing out in the history thread.

The pirates will split up to overpower the ship's crew who are also taking breakfast at the time they make their move. The pirates have surprise and the advantage in terms of firepower.

Swash, please take Gastard, Emry and Elena to the crew mess room and hold the crew hostage. No killing unless necessary thank you.
Also please can someone find and wake Angelique who is currently stored in a suitably interesting looking box in the hold as you head to the crew mess. Thank you.

Aletta, please accompany the Captain to the Bridge. Thank you.

New characters should head for the engine room please under the guidance of the engineer character. Thank you.

I will stop monopolising the thread now. :)

just a correction. It will not be Elena that will be cooking and such for the ship. It will be Henrietta (aka Henri)

Is that correct now Loves? I didn't realise you had three characters. Please take Henri with the Aletta and the Captain. Nothing makes an impression like being a pirate captain with two beautiful henchwomen after all. :)
