=Final Fantasy VII: Midgar Chronicles=

Notes
This is a Final Fantasy VII rp focusing on original characters, if you're looking to play a character from the games, I'm afraid this might not be the rp for you.

Also, I apologize in advance, but there might be a delay before I can actually start this rp, as there's a hurricane hitting my area (Long Island, New York) in the next few days that will most likely knock out my power for at least a few days. I've managed to luck out with the power situation before, but I'm not really counting on that happening this time. I will try to get this up and running ASAP once the storm's clear, but just be warned that you might need a little patience before we get this one running.

With that said, I want to have a max of 5-6 players besides myself in this rp. The last group rp I started had trouble with too many players slowing things down and I don't want to repeat that.

STORY
The player characters will be members of a squad of Shinra's Military Police, specifically, they will act as basically Shinra's SWAT. They're normal humans, not SOLDIER, and they're not privy to top company secrets like the Turks. These people aren't exactly evil. They may not be saints, but they're not bad guys either. They're just guys doing jobs, and in their eyes, are serving the people and protecting the peace. Over the course of the story, events will be put in motion that make them enemies of Shinra, but at the start, they're just employees of the company, doing their job to protect the city of Midgar. The story will take place prior to the series, before Before Crisis and Crisis Core. It'll take place between [ μ ] – εуλ 1992 and October of [ μ ] – εуλ 0000. I linked to the timeline below. It'll take place after the start of the War with Wutai, Sephiroth, Genesis and Angeal are already considered heroes of Shinra, and young men and women are flocking to Shinra to join the military in hopes of getting scouted by SOLDIER, and becoming heroes like them. The war is still in progress and the mass SOLDIER desertion hasn't yet taken place. There are talks of desention against Shinra, as people have begun to research Mako and the effect the generators are having on the Planet, but open rebellion has not yet occurred, aside from small anti-Shinra organizations that have risen up and been promptly crushed by the might of its military.

The story begins with Shinra deciding that, due to the recent conflict, and troubles with small anti-Shinra terrorist groups, they require a small, but elite counter-terrorism task force, and decide to put one together using both combat hardened veterans and promising new recruits. Your character is one of the ones selected for this new squad, designated Delta Squad.

Limit Breaks

Limit Breaks do not need to be filled out for the character to be approved, but any new limit breaks must be approved before they can be added to the sheet.

At the start of the rp, the characters will have access to the level 1 limit breaks, which will be activated by characters taking heavy damage in combat, and emotional strain. When they have moments of emotional crisis, they can unlock the next level. They'll be sparsely used, but can change the tide of battle when they are.

Level 1 will be like a powerful move.
Level 2 will be a very powerful move.
Level 3 will be extremely powerful moves.
Level 4 are the characters ultimate attack.

Positions

Demolitions Expert: You make things go boom. A demolitions expert is a vital part of any urban warfare team, as they're the ones who disarm exploses, set breaching charges, and just handle any of the boom-related work that comes a long.

Heavy Weapons: You make things go boom from far away. A heavy weapons specialist will save the team's ass in a pinch. If the enemy brings in choppers, or armored vehicles, they can punch a hole right in it. They're also great at clearing out rooms full of enemies, with flamethrowers, miniguns or grenade launchers.

Marksman: You kill things from a distance. A good marksman is an asset to any team, even in urban environments. They can follow the team and shoot attackers from a distance, wait on a nearby rooftop to snipe enemies from above, or perhaps wait inside a nearby building to provide fire support.

Medic: You keep your allies from getting killed. A skilled medic is vital to the survival of any team in combat. Your job is to make sure that your squadmates don't die just because they took a little bullet to the gut. Using state-of-the-art Shinra medicine, including potions and materia, you get them right back into action, and away from death's icy grip.

Hacker: You can crack anything. With modern computerized security systems, and sensitive data being stored on computers, a hacker is become more and more vital to tactical operations by the day. They can hack their way into computers linked by the Worldwide Network, or crack through security systems up close and personal. Either way, they're extremely nice to have around.

Mage: You are versatile. A mage is flexible, able to adapt to any situation by switching around their materia. They have specialized their training in the art of utilizing magic materia, and may be better or worse at certain types of spells. Still, their greatest strength lies in their ability to switch seamlessly from offense to defense and back again, simply by swapping around their materia.

Melee: You get up-close and personal. While its standard for MPs to carry both a rifle and a tonfa, most focus on their firearm, due to the relatively small amount of training it takes for one to be deadly with firearms, as opposed to being deadly with a melee weapon. Melee speciaists on the other hand, scoff at the notion, and train rigorously in the use of melee weapons, and typically wield a standard-issue Shinra sword into battle, though the weapon trully depends on user-preferance. They are especially useful in urban warfare, where the battles may often take place in close quarters where the range advantage of guns are minimalized.

Command: (Taken by my character) You lead the others into battle. These are the guys calling the shots. Their job is to make sure their team knows what its supposed to be doing. This is a full-time job as anyone who's ever been in battle can assure you. No plan survives contact with the enemy, and its their job to make sure that the squad properly adapts to the ever-changing conditions of combat.

Glad to see ya! Let me know if you have any questions. Hopefully everyone can ask me any questions they might have before Sunday-ish, as that's when the storm's predicted to hit. I'm not sure right now if I'm gonna ride it out as long as I can on here, or if I'll shut everything down when the storm hits, but considering all the things I'm hearing about how bad it might be, I'm doubtful my power will stay on for very long either way.

Name: Clive Beckett
Age: 26
Gender: Male

Rank: Sergeant
Position: Marksman

Weapon: "Killer", A  sniper rifle that has a 2-6x adjustable scope, as well as flash and noise suppressor. It has had a black coating applied to it that is anti-corrosive and dulls it, making the gun not shine in light.  It uses a revolving chamber design that houses six 7.62x54mm cartridges. It is a very powerful gun, due to the high caliber rounds it fires, but the revolving action (the hammer must be cocked after each shot) makes shots slow, and it's limited ammunition and design makes reloading something of a chore (However, given his role, this often times does not actually pose a problem). "Killer" can only slot one Materia.
Combat knife, just a plain, thirteen inch long, fixed blade, single edged knife; good for utility purposes, as well as in the event that he is forced into tight quarters (where Killer can not be effectively used). Can slot one Materia.
Killer's Appearance

As an aside, even the revolving cylinder is black, but I can't edit it to look black without it no longer looking like a cylinder. Use your imagination!
Materia:

Appearance:

As an aside, his typical accoutrement involves a brace on his right arm, with slots for two Materia. However, it is not uncommon to see these slots empty.
Backstory: His father worked in a weapons manufacturing facility, which is likely where Clive got his interest in guns. From  even a young age, however, he showed a prodigal talent in being able to identify guns; and as a teenager, he often worked on them (on the down-low, as his age made it technically illegal).  He enjoyed taking them apart, and putting them back together (some times tweaking things around, and making them better; or worse).

As he grew older, he decided he was tired of 'merely' tinkering with weapons, and that he wanted to actually use them. The logical choice, then, was to join Shinra. He was originally considered for R&D, because of his knack with guns, but decided he did not want a "desk job"; maybe when he's older, he says to himself and others, when he's tired of field work.

He has shown himself to be a very able marksman, for not only is his sight good, he is capable of remaining calm under pressure (and under fire).

He dislikes Materia because he finds it hard to understand how it all works, unlike guns, which he has an intimate knowledge of.
Other notes/ideas/stuff: I can see him as just being the go to guy for weapon maintenance. If he had access to the right equipment, he could modify other peoples weapons or create whole new ones (if you're cool with that).

Limit Breaks
1.1: Sure Shot Takes the time to fully set up his shot, factoring in all relevant data; their's no way for it to miss.
1.2: Scatter Shot Fires a modified bullet that explodes and sends shrapnel towards a group of enemies.

2.1: Headshot A shot, aimed right between the eyes. Their are few creatures in the world capable of withstanding this attack.
2.2: Gutshot A shot aimed at the gut. Deals significant damage, but, the great part is, it will leave someone crippled in pain, rather than dead.

3.1: AP Shot A special armor piercing bullet is fired, which can punch through even the heavy armors of mechanized troops.
3.2: Quick Shot With a fistful of ammo, and a righteous fury, he unleashes a six shot barrage against his enemies.

4.1: Meteor Shot Specialized ammo; very difficult to make.  This large round is the love child of Scatter Shot and AP Shot rounds. Plus, some times, it sets the victim on fire.

I'm probably jumping the gun, simply because I'm so excited with this, but I did go right off and make the Limit Breaks for Clive. I'll modify them accordingly, if they're too weak/strong.

I'm here. Need a bit to read everything, though.

EDIT: Mind if I lay claim to the Mage's spot? If not, that's fine, I'm just not sure I'll be able to get a character sheet up tomorrow or until maybe Sunday.

Reading posts now!

Alright, my main problem with the limit breaks is that they're too... RPG math. This is freeform, and its sort of hard to convert all those numbers into rp. I'd prefer if the limit breaks were described more by what they do than how much damage they do and whatnot.

Name: Joshua Beckett
Age: 19
Gender: Male

Rank: Private First Class
Position: Melee

Weapon: Carries a longsword called "Bella." Also carries an array of poisoned senbon needles.
Bella
Materia:

Appearance
Backstory:
While Clive was learning about guns, Josh was taking various sword-fighting classes. Considered a prodigy at a very young age, he held his skills highly. Joshua never understood what the big deal was with guns. He always thought sword-fighting was better than fighting with guns because it was much more personal.

When Clive left for Shinra, it was around that time when Josh developed an interest in poisons and throwing needles, called senbon. He went to various experts, over a span of time, learning about different poisons and their uses. He taught himself how to throw the senbon and practiced with accuracy. He did this by hunting small, quick animals, like birds, rabbits and lizards. He then spread out the uses of the senbon by applying various poisons onto them, which enabled him to take down larger targets, like elk, deer and bears.

Out on a hunting trip, a bear ambushed him. Josh ran away from the bear. He suffered damages to his right eye, which had to be removed and replaced with a glass eye. Josh, however, covered this eye with an eye-patch, disliking how the glass eye looked like.

Josh eventually followed in his brother's footsteps, enlisting into Shinra. The Shinra command gladly took him and placed him in the field despite his injured eye, all thanks to his brother, Clive.

Joshua is intelligent, witty and funny in social environments and during combat situations, he is calm, decisive and strategic. Special expertise in guerilla warfare.

Limit Breaks
1.1: Slash Bella comes down onto an opponent, slashing the torso
1.2: Needle Shower An array of needles gets thrown from higher ground to lower ground. The needles are tipped with poison.

2.1: Impale Bella impales an opponent, causing the target to bleed profusely.
2.2: Stealth Strike! Josh camouflages into his environment, moves around the target and strikes from behind, using either Bella or a poisoned barrage of senbon.

3.1: Counterstrike! Attacks by swinging Bella at a targets critical locations: head, torso, legs.
3.2: Paralyzing Needle Josh throws a needle tipped with poison that does little damage, but inflicts Slow, Poison, Imperil, Pain, Daze, Deprotect, Deshell, and Defaith

4.1: Final Chance to Win! Buffs self with Bravera, Protectra, Shellra, Vigilance, and Haste. Targets up to two opponents and they both suffer a flurry of poisoned needles inflicting Poison, Slow, Pain and Deprotect. Targets one of the two, Slashes and Impales target.

For status ailments, I used the ones from FF13 because they seemed more realistic to me than the ones they have in FF7.

I hope the limit breaks aren't too OP, I tried to make some of them situational.

EDIT to accommodate Finn's edit: So you want no accuracy percentages and more description.

I like both the characters, but as I put in my edited post before, I'd like the limit breaks to be more described by what they do, as opposed to stuff like damage, and accuracy.

EDIT: Gah, sorry. Just describe what they do, exactly, we can figure when they hit or not on a case-by-case basis.

And I think we should stick with FF7 Status for the most part, I'll work on ironing that sort of stuff out maybe tomorrow if I can.

So I would be interested in this maybe apart of the squad as a negotatior I am thinking Warrant Officer 1 or 2. That is if your still taking people for this and this would fit in your vision of the game.

Well, I'm still accepting, but I'd like the characters to be between Private First Class and Staff Sergeant, and one of the positions I listed above.

Materia:

Appearance:
Sgt. Major Recreant
Backstory: Yuge grew up in the mining town of Kalm. His father, Cedric, was originally a local guard before signing up with the MPs. He went to Wutai to escort a diplomatic mission to talk about the construction of a mako reactor in the country. There, he met a young Wutaian priestess named Kayo. The two quickly fell in love and when Cedric returned home, Kayo left with him. He asked to be stationed back in his home town, where him and Kayo began a family.

When Yuge was 12, his father was recruited into SOLDIER, and their family moved to Midgar. He quickly raised through the ranks to 2nd Class, and completed many missions for Shinra. Unfortunately, when Yuge was 15, his father was killed in action, and their family fell into poverty. They were forced to move down to the slums, where they experienced the hardships of the poor. Despite experiencing the worst of Midgar, Yuge was only more intent to be like his father and do what he could to make life better for the people.

He turned 16, he joined Shinra's military himself, though he rose through the ranks far more slowly than his father. His skill was great, but he had a tendancy to break the rules when he felt the situation justified it. He did what he had to do the right thing, even when it went against orders. Years of service tempered him, however, and eventually he began to fall in line. Still, he never lost his passion for justice, and still disobeyed orders to do the right thing... he just got better at being more subtle about it.

When Shinra put together its Delta Squad, there was some debate over who would lead the team, they eventually decided on Yuge.

Limit Breaks
1.1: Desperado- Yuge throws three grenades at his enemies, before focusing completely on his aim. He aims his pistol and fires a round at each grenade at just the right moments maximize damage.
1.2: Hope- Yuge uses the last of his strength to give his allies hope, using his own chi energy to heal their wounds and clear them of status ailments, to get them back into fighting shape.

Name: Leo Sylvain
Age: 21
Gender: Male

Rank: Lance Corporal
Position: Mage

Weapon: Aside from his standard issue MP rifle (which he almost never uses), Leo tries to bring a variety of materia in on each mission, though, being in the middle of a transfer, he is currently waiting on a new set to be assigned. His current bracer is capable of equipping four materia at once.
Materia:

Appearance:

Backstory: Born in the slums of Midgar, down below the plate that held up Sector 6, Leo remained in poverty for most of his childhood. With his parents making barely enough money to feed themselves, as soon as he was old enough, he did whatever he could to help them support the family, whether that meant working odd jobs around the shady Wall Market, or returning to those same shops late at night to steal what he could. He wasn't proud of what he had to do, but the city above certainly wasn't going to help keep his family sustained.

Leo went uneducated for the first several years of his life, until around age eleven, when he started to explore the other sectors' slums and eventually stumbled upon a school for children like him, taught for free by a retired school teacher from the upper levels. It was here that Leo began to learn about the history of Midgar, and about Shinra, who had not played much of a role in his life up to this point. He became intrigued, asking why they rarely saw MPs patrolling the slums and keeping them safe, and why Shinra didn't do more to keep the poor fed and health. With fear in his eyes, his teacher refused to say much about the company, but Leo decided that they only had to be more informed of what people were going through down here, then they would sure help, right?

As soon as he turned sixteen, Leo handed over all the money he had saved up (which still wasn't very much) to his parents, then joined Shinra's military police academy, believing the company had good intentions and that they only needed help understanding the plight of the people down below the plate. Having never handled a firearm before, the young man wasn't much of a shot, though he did prove himself to be quite adept with magic and soon graduated into the Military Police force. Instantly, he began trying to spread the word and get his fellow soldiers more interested in what was happening in the slums, but was wholly ignored, and was even assigned to protect one of the prosperous sectors above the plate.

Disappointed, but not giving up, Leo has continued trying to get people to listen to this day. While he doesn't seem to care much for the prosperous civilian sectors of Midgar, he still believes Shinra can do good and has formed a loyalty to them. He believes in doing his best to accomplish whatever his mission is, even if he doesn't like it, and dislikes those who don't follow orders or show a lack of respect for the uniform.

Limit Breaks
1.1: Doublecast Casts two spells at once. Single-target spells only.
1.2: Whiteout Casts Blizzard on all targets with a chance to inflict Blindness.

2.1: Banish Attempts to remove one enemy from the battlefield.
2.2: Good Breath Randomly assigns buffs to each party member.

3.1: Triplecast Casts three spells at once. Multi-target spells allowed.
3.2: Fate Attempts to cast Doom and Death on all targets. Higher efficacy rate than normal for Doom.

4.1: Mako Release Taps into the Lifestream, greatly increasing the power of his spells for a certain period and lowering the energy required to cast them.

EDIT: Also, we should probably save a spot for Latooni, since she showed interest.

Hey guys, I'm a friend of Rev's that he told about the RP, and it seems pretty awesome since you guys are a small group re-rolling due to the classic Elliquy effect of people dropping out.

If there's still room for me, please let me know.
If you're reading my RPs from the outside and like my writing, feel free to drop me a line! I'm always looking for new, fun partners. :D
