Hello, all. I am considering GMing a Dresden Files system game here on Elliquiy. It will use this book.

You will need at least the above linked book to play. This is a system game, not a freeform one.

Now, you may notice that this thread looks a little...sparse! That is because FATE has a rather in-depth process for building a world together and for character generation stats, so instead of presenting a full world or anything like that, I am instead presenting the basic things I require in a game I'd GM and the topics I wish to include or not include as a GM.

Game Requirements

 • You must be willing to accept and write with crossgender writers (Lords writing female characters, Ladies writing male characters, Lieges writing characters that don't match their gender identity, and Legates writing whatever they'd like).
 • All characters 18+, please.
 • An IC post rate of at least 2/week or so, but no minimum posting length. Short posts are a-okay so long as they are moving things along. :-)
 • The game is not sex focused. Sexual content will be given its own thread away from plot.
 • LGBTQA-friendly.
 • No drama. Any player issues with other players should not be addressed in public threads, but instead brought to the GM in private.
 • I am open to any game classification, from Light to Extreme. Please suggest your preference if you would like to play!
 • I will only take 5 players maximum.
 • Players understanding of my newness GMing FATE on a forum would be most appreciated. This is not a system I have a lot of experience in general (I've been in only a very small amount of FATE games in RL, none that lasted super long), and I have never GMed it on a forum. Kindness, patience, and understanding will be needed with me if you would like to play.

Things I Would Like to Include in a Game

 • Submerged power level.
 • An antagonist from the Order of the Blackened Denarius

Things I Do Not Want In This Game

 • Vampire PCs of any kind. I am getting my vampire fix from another game. So no vampires, please.
 • PCs who are outright villains. I am okay with moral gray areas or generally kind/moral people, but please do not make a PC who is just outright evil.

With that out of the way, still interested? Then please fill out the template below and submit a concept. I will select the five that I feel mesh best, and from there we will move to a formal OOC and begin city creation. Please do not fully stat up your character; just do the concept for now. This is because depending on the city, you might actually want to consider aspects that best fit the setting we all make together, so pre-making everything might hurt you more than it helps you.

Please have an Ons and Offs thread if you would like to play. I am very unlikely to accept players who don't have a thread.

If you are coming here from this thread, please state whether you are willing to do a rotating GM schedule. For now, I will run my game as a 'one-shot.' If someone else wants to GM after that, we'll see what happens. Otherwise, I am fully prepared to run a long-term campaign if people would rather play than try out GMing. :)

Concept Sheet

Feel free to use an image to represent your character appearance if you wish, but I won't require that you do so. If you don't wish to use an image, I'd ask that you describe their appearance somewhere in your concept. :-)

Name: Your character's name here.
Age: Any age is fine, so long as they are 18 or up.
Gender: Gender identity, plain and simple.
Personality: Describe the personality of the character you want to play.
History: Please keep this section small. I would like to, when we move into world building, leave a lot of room for PCs having connections with each other. A small paragraph talking a bit about your character's 'general' history, ideally leaving out any 'named' cities or locations, is best. You will have plenty of opportunities to flesh this out later during actual chargen.
Template You Are Considering: As per the RPG, everyone will need a template. It will help me to know what template you are wanting, though we aren't statting anything yet. This gives me an idea of what sort of party we might get.

Age:
Gender:
Personality:
History:
Template You Are Considering:
Post your concepts here. Do not PM them to me. It is important that others can see what you want to play!

I really hope I get in! If we do a rotating GM system, I would love to GM at some point! But I would need to start as a player, since I've never used the FATE system. Like you said, very basic character premise, I have a lot more ideas for the history of this character!

Character Name: Samuel 'Sam' Richard Alastair Taylor

Age: 36

Gender: male

Personality: pessimist, sarcastic, slightly unstable... well for a wizard

History: Sam had a longer than usual apprenticeship, as most of his masters were killed by various means. While each instance was random, he believed that it was somehow his fault. Sam was recently released from a psych hospital, as no one believed he was a wizard, and at the time he was under a nasty curse that wouldn't allow him to use magic. During his time in the hospital, he became unstable, part of him knowing that he is a wizard, and everything magical is real. The other part believes that he is still crazy, and that none of this is real. I'm thinking, if you allow it, he basically has 2 personalities. If his wizard self isn't in control, it's much harder for him to use his magical abilities.

Appearance: Long, ragged, brown hair, and a beard to match. He has brown eyes. He wears his wizard robes everywhere he goes, as this is one of the ways his 'real self', his wizard self, stays in control.

Template You Are Considering: Wizard

I can try to give GMing a shot.  I have a bit of a concept I can throw down for the players to investigate but I'm not sure how well it will work in action.

Character Name: Grace DeArca (birth name Stephanie Jasmine Milano)
Age: 27
Gender: Female
Personality: Repentant sinner.  She's not completely moody and joyless but she does carry the weight of her past on her back.
History: Stephanie used to work as a hired assassin, taking out various targets regardless of any sort of morality purely thanks to whoever could pay the bills for her decadent and luxurious lifestyle.  This all changed when her target turned out to be someone of faith, who knew all sorts of things about her that no one could know and forgave her before she even pulled the trigger.  In a rare exercise of free will, she changed her life then and there, and turned herself towards trying to destroy evil so that the truly virtuous never have to deal with it.
Template You Are Considering: Champion of God (or possibly just True Believer)

One of the things about this particular concept which may or may not work out well is the idea of using Guide My Hand to stop her hand if she's ever going to kill someone or something that the divine doesn't want destroyed.  This could be someone who can be redeemed or even just a monster with a further part to play in the cosmic plan, but a big part of the concept is that she's not just back to killing again without any real direction, and knows that if there's someone who actually shouldn't die, she'll receive guidance not to pull the trigger.

Basically, if the idea works well for people, she'll spare anyone that the GM says shouldn't be killed, with the idea being that the divine has a reason for not wanting them dead yet, no matter how evil they might appear.  It works really well in a game that wants to offer a redemption aspect, can easily be ignored for a more combat-heavy scenario, and can be problematic for a story where the GM wants us to question and doubt whether the antagonist should be spared.

If anyone doesn't like the idea, please let me know and I can throw something else together ^_^
It's all good, and it's all in fun.  Now get in the pit and try to love someone.

*Scrambles to the closet to dig out books all the while squeeling happily!*

Character Name: Melissa Atropes
Age: 33
Gender: Female
Personality: Assertive, confident, in control, and happy to help... Right up to the point you make her day difficult, at which point she will do all she can to Wreck you. Melissa does her best to remain professional while on the clock or other situations, but is more then happy to fly by the seat of her pants when things call for it, or the situation is something that isnt in the book (or when such comes up the book plugs its ears, does its best to drown out the noise, and takes every action to ignore). Borderline alcoholic to help deal with damage done by magical encounters/issues, very upbeat, friendly, open, and unreserved when under influence.
History: Police officer of some 15 years (enlisted as a cadet at age 18) duty. From a happily upper middle class family melissa joined the police with a love of helping people. She performed her duties well enough as a trooper, and eventually made her way towards Detective with eyes on a position as a sergeant, but settled into the position comfortably. Several years before game there was an incident, a conflict with some Sorcerer, rogue supernatural, or other of the like. The event cost her an eye (and if go with a Powered concept) and awakening/empowering her. Since then she has been fighting pushes to retire or take a desk job while working to solve supernaturally aligned cases, while keeping contact with some supernatural contact she has developed.
Template You Are Considering: Mortal, Emissary of Power (Through mystical item), Scion. Willing to work out something to help fit in!

I am not Confident enough in my ability to run this system as  this would be like my third game of Dresden ever. Non Consensual would be a safe bet for a Dresden game.

Just letting everyone know that I have seen/read your concepts! I am most likely going to leave the interest check open for about a week to give people time to see it & a little time to toss a concept in before I select a group. :)

Woot!

Gonna fill out more of my template stuff ideas, the Emissary of Power, and possibly Scion (though i got no idea where to go with it..)

I would be willing to GM at some point, but not immediately.  I would want to be more familiar with the system and remember more of the setting first.  I would prefer a non-consensual rating.

Character Name: Georgia Petchey
Age:  TBD (I need to calculate how long ago Siriothrax was slain, but probably in her 30s or 40s)
Gender: Female
Personality:  Confident and driven.
History: Georgia has little memory of her parents.  They were, she believes from research she has done since, part of a hereditary group who hunted and battled the influence of the (big D) Dragons for reasons that she has never determined.  Her family came into conflict with Siriothrax (or a cult that worshipped him) and were slain.  Georgia doesn't remember this, she just remembers hearing of an accident, being moved to a foster family, and a kindly old uncle who came to visit on occasion.

As a child Georgia can remember intense dreams of alien landscapes, of pain, of godlike creatures and forces of nature.  The dreams always seemed to follow a visit by her supposed uncle and ceased when he stopped coming by.  Still young, Georgia was dumped on the steps of a Catholic Church by her foster family.  She was taken in by a parishioner, and lived a relatively normal life for several years.

The dreams returned when Georgia was in her mid-teens, accompanied with strange and unnatural powers.  A devoted Catholic, Georgia first thought that she had been possessed or touched by the devil.  As the years passed she began to piece more together.  Now, decades later, she is confident that she was being shaped and moulded by Siriothrax (or a powerful Cultist) to be a servant of some kind, maybe even a (small d) dragon.  She has rejected this, having no desire to serve a power that would build cults and consume sacrifices.  She currently works as a Librarian but actively works against Cults and other groups (and individuals) that she sees as evil.
Template You Are Considering: Emissary of Power or Were-Form
Description: I'd like to find an image but haven't yet.  Professional and attractive overall.  A woman who wears suits, works out at the gym, and usually has her hair in a fairly severe bun.

TheLaughingOne

Bbaahh. Rl eatting up time.

Gonna go with emissary of power through old voodoo item, small stone skull with... awkward placement.. ;3

Grants something like... enhanced senses (detect residual channeled magic),  ability to see ghosts, wizards constitution, and sight (can be switchdd on and off) or something.. finally my weekend and will dig into my book.
My Ons and Offs!

Letting y'all know that tomorrow is when I will select players. Ideally, since there seem to be only five of you, I will be able to take everyone that expressed interest thus far. :)

I'm willing and able to GM an arc when or if you need a break. I'm familiar with FATE in general and with DFRPG in particular.

EDIT: Pared down history to be vaguer. I think it was pretty flexible but, you know, never hurts.

Character Name: Zachary Meras / "Zeke"
Age: 25
Gender: Male

Personality: A little irreverent, a little reckless; both draw from a well of amiable arrogance, a superiority complex remarkably free of contempt for others. Inquisitive and occasionally contemplative, Zeke thinks of himself as an intellectual, but there's some self-deception involved in that - he's motivated as often by bursts of compassion or a deep, dark urge to vindictiveness as he is by reason. He has a deplorable fondness for pop rock and bad acting, loves horse-riding and being complimented, hates Italian food, and lives in mortal terror of having to make speeches.

History: The son and heir to a wealthy lineage of diabolical alchemists, infernal artisans, and - worst of all - politicians, Zeke's early life was one long mad blur of sex, drugs, and rock n' roll. Also light demon-summoning. He eventually pulled the tarnished silver spoon out of his mouth, though, and decided to make something of himself. He went to Europe. He had more sex, did more drugs, and listened to more rock n' roll. Also light demon-summoning. After a few semesters of academic failure and a final, definitive expulsion, Zeke gave up his ambitions and headed back home, tail between his legs.

Home, as it turned out, was doing even worse without him (incidentally, granted) than he had been without it. Dark plans come to fruition and any number of ungodly pipers paid, Zeke found the family estate mostly wrecked and given over to Down Below, including his bedroom, which appeared to have been hastily converted into some manner of damnable portal of antediluvian evil. Worse, the state of affairs there was not exactly contained - his family seemed to have scattered to the wind, along with an uncertain number of unpleasant entities, ill-aspected elixirs, and malevolent devices of one kind or another. Zeke figured if he wasn't cut out for constructive living he could at least focus his destruction constructively, and hit the road once more - this time accompanied by Mazkiel, fallen angel of the Order of the Blackened Denarius, a combat-fatigued berserker with a breathtaking practical knowledge of warcraft. She hasn't been the biggest help, but then accessing more than the least sliver of her power would probably unmake him anyway, so that's all for the best...

Template You Are Considering: "Emissary of Power," an alchemist and artificer who carries Mazkiel's silver coin.

Ons and Offs: It's all pretty whatever for me. I'll bend as needed. "Not sex-focused" is a positive on this end.
"They say even the proudest spirits can be broken...with love."

Blythe

H'okay, everyone, I've had time to read everyone's concepts. Rajah, I'm afraid the concept you've presented is too close to the antanogist type I'm going to use, so it won't be suitable. I do thank you for your interest, and if I'd been running a different antagonist type, I would have totally jumped on that concept, because it's quite cool. :)

As such, CupofJoe, AndyZ, Marie Reynolds, PerpetuallyAnnoyedCleric, and TheLaughingOne--y'all are my five.

I will be locking this thread and PMing y'all links.
