To summarize the information of the group, this GRP is about a group of characters who have the ability to make a contract with powerful creatures from another world. The characters (Occultists) are employed by the government to fight another group of shady creatures that come out at night. And in exchange are provided with accommodation, food, and a 'small' allowance. I’ll also be allowing people to play the powerful creatures if that’s more your thing. While there are some dark themes in this roleplay, I’m hoping for it to be pretty light-hearted and slice-of-lifey. With the focus being more on the relationship between an Occultist and their Shiki, rather than the fighting monster part. "Most of you will probably recognize this is based a fair bit from various animes; including but not limited to SMT:Persona, and the FATE series. But knowing the series won’t be very useful since I’ll be taking certain liberties..... and I don’t have a thorough understanding of the concepts I’ve stolen in a canon way myself xD" - Leki As a note this game was originally created by the user Leki, who has given permission for me to reboot it so that the players can enjoy the setting. Everything for this game was originally created by him, and I hope I can do him honor in how I run this game. If you are interested in joining this game you are welcome to post your Profiles to the thread here, but also please PM it to SweetSerenade and Avalon29. This way I can look over and ask for any adjustments needed before your character can be posted to the Information Thread.

OOC Rules & Game related rules:
1.)   All rules that apply on E apply in this game. This means all rules about civility, respect, and the like will be followed. While E has a rule where you are allowed to play characters as young as 16 the Staff of BMS are setting a hard rule that all characters must be 18. Furthermore, they need to be mentally, and physically 18 in appearance and actions. All character images used need to be thoroughly checked to make sure that the image isn’t based on an underage canon character. You will be asked to change your picture if we feel it looks too young.
2.)   At this time, we are not accepting any characters other than male and female (of the Occultist and Shiki variety).
3.)    Characters can be of any sexuality they desire, but please be aware that BMS is not intended to be a sex focused game, please keep this in mind with your interactions. BMS is intended as a Slice of Life – with some darker themes, where the characters expand and grow within their world.
4.)   All players are allowed a max of 3 characters, for the moment. Players are allowed to start with one character, and after activity with the first they may apply to make a second character. Please make sure to keep all characters active, or you may be asked to remove one from play before you can make any others.
5.)   Occultist characters are allowed to have a max of two shiki at the start, we would prefer if you. Shiki are allowed one occultist, after a week of IC time you can ask about getting a second occultist if you have shown adequate bonding with your current occultist - This is a rule to limit a shiki advancing in level too fast – thus pushing us towards higher enemies before the characters are ready.
6.)   You are only allowed to put a max of 2 sigils into a shiki at any given time. Occultists are required to keep 1 sigil at all times. This is both an OOC rule and an IC rule – to make sure there is one ‘command’ sigil available if there is an emergency.
7.)    There is a minimum requirement of 1 post a week, IC, the Staff of BMS understands that real life comes first so if you are going to be absent for longer than 72 hours please tell us! (Note: Your one post a week is required to be a non-sexual post in a normal story situation, you cannot use sexual interactions or Character communication posts to count as your one post a week minimum.)
8.)   Posting Rate & Size– You are required to wait for at least 3 posts between your own (for a singular character), in the instance of people in scenes with multiple people, and someone is holding others up from posting – wait 72 hours from when that persons ‘turn’ has come up – and skip them. Players that are skipped can return easily whenever they are able to post. We also require at least 1 paragraph, of a decent size, per post so that we can maintain a certain level of quality. (This does not apply in the Communications thread, so things like texts and the like don’t need to follow this rule.)
9.)   If you want help with character creation, making plots, or advancing options for your character – please talk to us as we are here to help and would love to help you.
10.)    Any player plots that can impact more than 3 characters need to be discussed with the staff, just to make sure that it won’t interfere with anything already planned in the game, as well as make sure it holds the theme of the game in mind.
11.)    The most important one of all… Have fun, if you aren’t having fun – talk to us, the staff are always here to listen, and we will work hard to help you.

     Q&A
Q: How long has the Dark Hour existed for?
A: As far as people know, the Dark Hour has always existed, but it's only in the last 10 years that it's been known by a government agency. Small pockets of various spiritual organizations have been aware of it for centuries though.

Q: Occulist vs Spiritual Mediums?
A: Please note that an Occultist refers specifically to high-prana, contracting with Shiki characters. A monk who has gone through intensive training, or a priest blessed by a god is not an Occultist, but may still be active during the Dark Hour.

Q: How will we be starting?
A: The roleplay will start on the evening of a New Moon. The Occultists will be brought together, and tasked with finding themselves a Shiki in and around Revius City. In order to assist with Occultists finding their ideal Shiki, the government agency (TENMA) will be burning Prana-Incense... at the local shrine. All unbound Shiki are in a state of starvation, and Prana is an essential source of energy for them... so think of it as a delicious aroma wafting over when you're on an empty stomach.

Q: How does an Occultist and Shiki form a Bond?
A: The Occultist must have enough Sigils, and both the Shiki and Occultist must consent to the bond. How they affirm their bond is entirely up to each individual. Whether it be a simple handshake, a verbal agreement, or a quick romp in the bushes. Once the bond is agreed upon the Sigils will disappear. The Ingesting requirement will take effect after 24 hours.

Q: How much does an Occultist (Character) know?
A: Pretty much all the information here would have been provided to them at some point prior to the start of the roleplay. Whether they remember or not is up to each individual player to decide.

Q: What happens when someone becomes an Occultist?
A: When a human awakens their prana at 18, they are collected by TENMA and brought to one of their facilities. All contact with the life they knew is removed, and then they are passed to different cities/facilities as they try to bond to a Shiki. For those resistant to bonding - it is basically like being in Prison, the very basic of their needs provided for till they agree to work for TENMA. Upon agreeing to work for Tenma they are given all the necessities of life, as they travel from city to city seeking a Shiki to bond with.

Q: How Occultists are Treated till they Agree to work with TENMA -
A: Occultists who refuse to work with TENMA, and are resistant to being put out to bond with Shiki are kept essentially as prisoners in a sense, because they are a risk to the secret that TENMA is keeping from a large majority of the world. Any characters held by TENMA would spend most of their time in their own room, with little to do other than read books and stare a blank walls. Their needs are taken care of exceptionally well though, with literature provided that is to their liking (unless they are violent and then they get nothing). Their room has it’s own rather comfortable bed, a bathroom with materials for their needs, and they are given food that is probably better than most people would see.

While they are violent and resistant they are not allowed to meet anyone. They are allowed out of their room for an hour each day to go to a training room to exercise if they like, but there is never anyone else there but one of the Trainers. The only exception is when they are put out once a month during the Prana-Incense events to try to bond to a Shiki. If the Occultist is still resistant to even that, they are often kept locked up till they comply.

Q: How you are treated when you work for TENMA -
A: Shortly after accepting the work of going out for bonding to Shikis an Occultist will find their situation changing significantly. They are moved into a more comfortable room, or allowed to keep theirs and decorate as they wish. All operatives, Occultists, of TENMA are given a personal credit card for the ‘company’. This has their monthly allowance on it, and it generally is a decent amount of money. Enough for needs and extras, and they even help cover ‘extras’ if you are extra giving in how you work for them.

Occultists not bonded to shiki are allowed to pick up work within TENMA – but only in the regards of anything they are already skilled in. (Makoto has done work as a personal trainer to help get some recruits in better shape, as an example.) An Occultist with Goals that do not put them in the direct public eye (Like Noel’s wish to return to being an Idol) will be given access to anything they need. You want to build cars? TENMA has you covered. You want to go to college? Talk to Damian and he’ll help you get everything going. TENMA will even help people who haven’t finished their educational goals and help them reach them (Look at Lili they are giving her a full ride for a PhD!).

You are allowed out and about, based on how behaved you are, during the day, with the strict understanding that you are to return before nightfall to prepare for the Dark Hour. For the Occultists very new to the City they are kept in a Hotel nearby, or in a cheap apartment (once again nearby), under guard (though they may not know it). The more resistant an Occultist was before accepting, the more carefully TENMA watches you.

They give you enough to hang yourself with if you are trying to trick them.

Q: What about Jobs while working with TENMA?
A: People are given in company jobs, or they work at the centers where they have their ‘base’. This games ‘base’ (with the Dorms in the buildings surrounding the Café). Most of the Occultists will work in the Café or the ‘Night Club’ we will end up setting up through game play. They are willing to allow day time part time jobs that help keep you happy, but will not allow anything that interferes with your ability to participate in the Dark Hour.

Q: How moving Occultists from City to City Works
A: Occultists who have been in TENMA for awhile, but have not bonded to a Shiki (whether resistant or accepting of their position) are generally moved around the world to a variety of locations that TENMA has. This happens every 3-6 months. Generally they never go to a city that is close to where TENMA found them.

Q:How gaining power works for Shiki, and how you can adjust your powers to maximize their potentials.
A: A Shiki that comes to Earth from their world is stripped down to base power, this has been the standard for the last 15 years or so. No one knows why, it’s just how it happened. Any Shiki that did not experience a power drop from an accident of some kind (or whatever in their history) prior to this event would find themselves stripped of their power the moment they stepped on Earth.

This gives a Shiki access to their Base Power, and then the moment they bond to an Occultist they gain one more Power. Their next power gains are not till 4, 7, and 9. So plan your shiki powers accordingly using the sliding scale of what a Shiki can do at each power level. So what does this mean for the base powers? Admins will allow players to adjust powers (with GM permission and review only!) of their Shiki to ‘power up’ the abilities they have, while waiting for new ones to unlock. You can’t retroactively just suddenly power up a bunch of abilities, it sort of just happens naturally and players will need to contact Gms on how they want to adjust their power.

Q: Posting size minimum?
A: GMs have decided that the minimum allowed post size will be One meaty paragraph of text, think 5-10 Sentences or So. Something substantial for players to work off of.

Q:Posting Lock Procedures (What will we do if someone ends up post locking a group due to their inability to post within x amount of time.)
The GM team has decided that we will let posting order happen based on who posts in the thread at what time. When a player has not alerted the group that they will be late in posting, there will be a mandatory 72 hour wait period that you will need to satisfy when it’s your turn. If Player A posts and Player C has to wait for Player B – but Player B says nothing about being unable to post – Player C is allowed to skip player B after 72 hours has passed. Given how many people may be within threads at any given time, you won’t have to worry too much about it being your turn very quickly – though we do have a rule that you have to post at least 2+ a week(without alerting the GM team.).

This is to prevent Post lock. If you are ‘skipped’ you are allowed to post as soon as you can, and that is your new place in the posting order. Keep track of who you posted right after in your scene, and make sure that’s what you do when it comes around again!


Q: What happens to an Occultist after bonding to a Shiki and working with TENMA?
Those that have Shiki are given extra funds, and allowed more freedom. As long as the Occultist and Shiki arrive in time for Dark Hour, or whatever work shifts they are doing, the organization doesn’t usually care. (Also make sure to check in with Damian on your Company Cellphone, he is such a worry wart! ~ Azzy)

Q: How long has TENMA been around, what about the situation with Prana and Shiki?
A: TENMA was founded roughly about 10 years ago, which is quite awhile for humans but not long for Shiki. As a note, SHIKI and Occultist sorts of bonds have been in existence for no longer than 15 years, before that a Shiki basically just spent time around humans or made ‘pacts’ that were different. They didn’t gain power the same way, and it didn’t work quite the same way. The last 15 years, no one knows why, but Shiki have been unable to do more than just get small ‘sips’ of Prana in the human world. This means that the Occultists are their buffet and it heightens the Shiki desire to bond with humans to find out what’s going on.

Shiki don’t generally like being in the public eye anyways, which is why they use the base skill all Shiki have (It’s a freebie!) that allows them to be invisible to everyone.

Q: What restrictions are there on Shiki bonding to humans/vice versa?
A: At the start of the game, till GMs say (Minimum of a Week In Game time passing), Shiki will only be allowed to bond to ONE Human. So, choose wisely, and make sure you are happy with your choice, because if you break the bond we will not allow you to rebond to a human till at least a week of in game time has started. This is to prevent ‘sigil farming’(Using humans as prana batteries by making several bonds rapidly), and GMs will remove power from Shiki that attempt this.

At initial bonding an Occultist can only spend a max of two sigils per shiki, and Gm (and TENMA) mandate that at least one sigil be withheld for emergency situations. So, keep this in mind when bonding Shiki. After the initial week or so of game time has passed, players are allowed to ask GMs about adding more Sigils to their Shiki (if you have gained enough more to do so.)

Q: Regaining Sigils?
A: Sigils can be regained through building up bonds of friendship or intimacy with Shiki. Up to three per each shiki. GMs will tell you when you have regained a Sigil, when we feel there is sufficient in character interactions to show a sigil gain. Just having sex with a Shiki does not warrant the intimacy needed to regain 3 sigils, there will be other developments we look for. As such, powering up shiki might take a little bit of time, but be worth it in the long run! Work on your bonds and friendships! Have fun, do crazy things! Become closer as a team. The Gms might randomly surprise you!

Q: Humans fighting Shiki?
A: So this is simple, a normal human can do minimal damage to a Shadow - it'll be annoying to the Lvl 1s, and more like gnat swats to Lv 2 Shadows, don't even attempt to try to fight a Level 3 on your own. You'll get Akira'd. We really aren't joking on that. Now human weapons can deter shadows, in an attempt to get them away, scare them off. Do not attempt to use guns on shadows over lvl 1. It does nothing. Shadows that are level 1 can have minimal damage from guns, but your best to fight a Shadow is a Shiki.

Q: How does the Prana-Incense Ritual work?
A: The Prana-Incense ritual is simple, at the local Temples there will be placed a prana concentrated incense that will surround the local areas with ambient Prana Scents. This will attract the hungry shiki towards the scent. Imagine your most delicious possible meal - wafting into your senses - and instantly having your mouth water. This will draw the Shiki into the City in the locations that TENMA wants them, and gives the Occultists a chance to interact with Shiki. Most shiki at this point know they need an Occultist to get more Prana while on Earth.

If it matters, what you could do is use keywords denoting the two most prominent aspects of your characters personality, and make a mental note of the other aspects. I think a few of us wish we could have listed more but it also isn't a major deal-breaker, since I feel like a personality can slowly change over the course of a game unless a character heavily resists change or had hard-to-break habits. o=
