"Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods
Where’s the street-wise Hercules
To fight the rising odds

Isn’t there a white knight upon a fiery steed
Late at night I toss and I turn and I dream of what I need"
-Bonnie Tyler - Holding out for a Hero.

The world is burning, and the shadows cross the lands. Cities lay in ruins, and dead litter the streets. The young heroes that stood up bravely to defend all they held dear shone brightly for a moment, and then their life was cut short, their end sealed. Within this world, destruction has become so common that most tears have ran dry, and most people hold no hope for the future.

In a decade a man calling himself Cho'den stood up and blashemed against the Gods themselves, facing them with his power, fighting the divine and cutting down everyone and everything in his path of blood. In his wake, the Pantheon fell silent, slain upon his blade, as gods blood ran free. The elements have become wild, the land has flourished with the rise of magic, and then darkened with the rise of destruction.

What people thought was a new age of plenty became an age of strife in mere months as the darkness began to settle in, and life after another was claimed, and rose again in service of the power that sought to annihilate all that opposed it, and conquer this world. Cho'den was whispered to be the coming of the end, a person so strong even the Gods themselves fell before his blade, there was no hope for any of them.

Yet a man stood up, dressed in the armor of a Paladin, and carrying the words of a Sorcerer, a man who gave no name for the historians to scribe down stood up to this villain, and the two of them fought, even as the world around them was being burned to the ground and torn to shreds. The two engaged in a battle that destroyed anything that came too near, but yet even as their battle raged on, it was not the worst.

With the silence in the Pantheon's halls, and with the death of the gods, their blood fallen to the mortal soil, the Lords of Enthropy whispered of a coming of an end. Finally, the time was ready. They would end the abomination of life, and all that would be would rest in the tranquility of death, return to the state of non-existance where it belonged. No good, no evil, no law and no chaos.

Yet even as these horrors gnawed on the very fabric of the world, they were reluctant to come near the heart of the world, where two fought on still, a Paladin-Sorcerer striking with might and magic against the power of the Lord Cho'den. The dark mage and the Paladin-Sorcerer clashed against one another with fierce force that made even the Lords of Enthorpy hesitate in their quest to purge the world to the arms of oblivion.

So destruction of the world was halted only by the other power that was destroying it at its heart. Words spread of a new hope, of a great sage, who had an answer that might give them all a chance.

Through the combined efforts of the Paladin-Sorcerer, and the Sage Ragadash, a powerful spell was created and forced to existence, that drew on the very essence of Gods, to create a blazing star in the darkened sky, pulsing with the power of the Lord Cho'den and the Paladin-Sorcerer, locked away for all eternity to continue their battle, but yet radiating upon the world a new life, a new light, that would let it stand up from its worst.

It was a blasted wasteland, but a little food could grow here and there, although the blackened forests offered little solace for those that survived for dreams of the future.

That was over 200 years ago. The age of Destruction remains, and though some small towns and even cities have stood up from the darkness, new heroes are rare sight, for those that wander past the walls of their towns are almost never heard of again. Death is ever present and familiar to the people. Some pray that this world would come to an end so a new world could be born. There are no more Gods to answer those prayers. No more direction for the ancient powers that spread across this land.

In the sky, two suns shine most of the time, and when one sets the other remains high, always shining some light to even darkest reaches of the world that remains. Its shine is dimmed by the dark clouds that gather, but enough passes by that there is still day, and there is still night.

Legends speak of better times, when life was joyful, pleasant, delightful. In these blasted remains, people struggle just to survive one more day.

There are no more new heroes.

But there are the Veterans. The Elite of the Elite. The best, and perhaps the worst, that have survived in this world.

Word has come that a man claiming to be from the outside arrived recently, bearing strange marks, and news. There is a word that the Saga Ragadash still lives, and a whisper that the relighting of this world to slow down the world-gnawing Enthropy was just the first step.

Whether this world plunges into oblivion, or becomes restored, destroyed and reborn, there will be no more new heroes. Only those who have survived till now are strong enough to take those odds.

This game takes place in a Custom Homebrew world, called Aher-Asak. I am using the Pathfinder rules for this game.

Starting Level: 15
Starting Races: Any Core Race, Convince me otherwise, Level Adjustment can be considered accordingly for more powerful race. No custom races, please.
Starting Classes: Any Core Class or from Advanced Player's Guide, for anything else, inquire. No custom classes, please.
Attention, Please! Since Gods are dead, worshipping Ideas & Concepts might still grant a Cleric power, but there is no Divines in the Halls of the Pantheon.

Starting Abilities: 35 Point Point Buy, plus Ability Increases from leveling up till level 15 normally.
Hit Points: Maximized.
Starting Wealth & Gear: 240,000 gold pieces to spend on this. Artifacts are not for sale, but otherwise characters should have been able to come across most kinds of magical items during their former travels, upto the set wealth limit. If you can argument it well enough, you can even 'spend it all in one place' if you wish. Keep in mind that items may come and go in this game.

Traits: Each character begins with 2 optional traits, if the player does not wish to receive a trait (from Advanced Player's Guide) they do not have to, but there is no trade-off for this. Additional traits can be acquired -at character creation- at taking a feat provided by the same book for this purpose.

Overarching Goal: The game is set in a dying, lost world. Events before the characters could do anything took place and ruined most of the blasted landscape beyond saving. Hundreds of would-be heroes have fallen. A dozen have climbed atop those bones left by the ones that came before, and made their way to fame, across the known remaining world, but news have become scarce as the lands are too dangerous for most to even think about making it from town to town.

The characters are among the Most Powerful People alive in the world, with not even Gods remaining. Lords of Enthropy are a threat that is supposedly kept away by the light, but most long-lived races whisper that light is dimmer and dimmer each passing year, the clouds gathering, and the shine being drowned out. Even where it has been changed for a while with magic, the light's shine is not as strong as some races, and old scriptures remember to tell it to be.

Characters have a chance to travel all across the blasted world, see what they can learn, what they can do, and what choices they may take. The game also offers options of changing things greatly, along the way or in the end.

If this game takes up and goes on to the very end, this game's end also offers a bit of extra incentive.

The players will get a chance to narrate part of what becomes after. Unless the players lead the world to Oblivion, their actions may have changed this world, or destroyed it to create a new one in time. At this point, players will have a chance to affect what follows.

Because this game is, in case the game does not end up in complete Oblivion for Aher-Asak, the restoration of the said world. This may lead to a new world spawned from the ashes of the last, or the cleansing of this world for a new age, but this custom game world will remain, and be available for future games I may be running with Pathfinder after. Victorious players may be there to later decide what the Gods of this world may be, they may be instrumental in shaping what the world becomes, and almost certainly they will be remembered, hailed as heroes or remembered as the dreams of the Last World.

The theme song for this campaign would be "Bonnie Tyler's Holding out for a Hero", and its reference in Games would have to be Chrono Trigger.

If that hint tells you anything, you are extremely welcome along, friend.

ALSO! I am putting one Character slot into Reserve, for a particular player, if they want to join along.

This is not "First Come, First Served" game. I want to hear what you have in mind and discuss things with you, and I'll pick the players and their characters along then.

In case of not enough player-interest, I will put this game to ice to wait for another time.

I am considering this game for a team of 3-5 characters. Ideal would be 4, but I can bend 1 character's amount either way.

This is a custom homebrew world I have created over a decade's worth of thoughts and ideas have been sank into it, this world was already once destroyed at the end of a campaign where the Characters were allowed to become more than Gods themselves. This game takes place in a 'what if' that another character opened up as a possibility, years later.

As such, this world has a great amount of history and detail to it, not as much in the age of destruction as its previous ages held, but still an amount that should not be considered lightly.

This game will also be played under the belief that the players are smart enough to know their characters actions and choices have consequences.

Not usually interested in games starting over 6th level, but you just caught my interest with this idea. I'll work on a character concept for it all. I have some ideas swarming, and look forward to seeing what other people throw in as well.

Wintercat

Welcome to the thread, I'm going to have to see how this turns out but as said this is not intended as a 'first come, first served' game, rather I would hope to see it played by a group of people I could hope to see carry the game on to the very end.

I imagine this would not be a short adventure but an ongoing campaign for quite some time, and as such I would hope to see a group of people that can play fairly regularily and enjoy one another's company in game. The thread is marked as Extreme given that I imagine that there will be situations where things are best rated for what they are.

People are free to show their thoughts for a character concept and discuss them here, I'll try and provide answers as well, and help out with things. I don't want to sound elitist with the whole 'picking of players' but aim to gather folks I think will be along to the very end, and that might enjoy the tale together. I am repeating myself a bit but I think that part is important enough to mention more than once.

I also realize it might be a rather strange game to see, as it stands.

Nonetheless, I am glad to see there is some interest.

I'm very interested.  At this point in my gaming career, I really don't apply any more for games that are first-come-first-serve.  I'd definitely like to try playing a game where the PCs have the power to shape the world, instead of being mooks for hire.

I'd like to play a Wizard, whose goal is to establish his own city-state where he can rule with an iron fist.  I'm a fan of playing morally complex characters, and in this case it would be fun to have one who is driven to do the right thing (save the world, establish an island of safety and civilization, help preserve or revive at least a spark of what was lost) for largely self-aggrandizing reasons.  I'm happy to come up with some more information and background as need be, depending on what you want to see in an application.

Working on several different character concepts, so far trying to decide between a half-elf rogue named Wastrel, a human fighter named Brand or a monk of some sort.

Name: Requiem
Class Wizard 15
Race: Elf
Sex: Female
Age: 130

Background: She has walked the lands before, though she has little memory of it. The first memory of this life was waking in a sealed tower, long toppled and forgotten. She had been a student.. or a master.. in an arcane school that had sealed themselves away from the world in hopes of finding some long lost secret to renewing the world. The tower was filled with many fallen scholars and wizards, anyone of them could have been her past life she realized as she studied what had happened. They had failed, and because they had cut themselves from the world so thoroughly there was no way for them all to be free.

Great magics were performed as one among them was selected to move back into the world and do what they had failed to do. She awoke as their last spell tore away the barrier that they had hidden behind, killing them all and wiping away most of what they had built. Leaving her to find her way in the world. Relearning the role she had walked before, that of a wizard. Walking away with a handful of scrolls and tomes, she set out to help rebuild the world and if need came to be find ways to escape it and take others with her.

She does what she can to help others, and defend those that remain who can't defend themselves against the things that threaten them. She eschews the magics of death and deceit as much as she can as she strives to find the lost magics to create planar gates and worlds beyond the planes to help other escape. She tries to build more than destroy but does as needed to keep folk alive.

Note: There are few spells I'd LOVE to have from the Ultimate Magic book, but as yet there is the big matter of how to get extra spells the +2/level limits a spell book to a very small size. :D

Alright, tossing ideas around in my head has made me decide on Brand, sorcerer/fighter/dragon disciple multiclass.  I think of him as someone who has grew up being an amiable person, not exactly charming but friendly, and who used his minor abilities with magic to help in situations where hitting things wouldn't.  More than likely an orphan, but not one of the poor abused ones, probably one that ended up being raised in one of those communities were the kids are looked after by all the adults.  Regardless, it was when he reached adulthood that his draconic heritage kicked in, and he found out where he came from.  After that, he went off into the ruined world, because the blood in him sings for conflict and something greater than a small community in a dying world.

Going to make him good, though not sure if he'll be lawful, neutral or chaotic about it.  His draconic blood will tempt him towards destructive actions, so it's something he'll have to manage constantly.  I'll flesh this out some more, this is just me putting the idea out for the character.

This sounds fun, I get the odd feeling that there is a snowballs chance of me getting on the guest list but I might as well toss my hat into the ring.
I've an idea for an Oracle, I'll write up a story for it in the morning.

Wintercat

Agreed, I was using old notes when thinking things through, but checked the Standard Wealth in Pathfinder. Updating first post, the Wealth for characters is upped, to the total of 240,000 gp worth of wealth and gear.

Requiem seems like a good concept to me, Callie del Noire. Fairly rare to see single-class characters, but I personally like them. I haven't done the math with the character otherwise yet, but it looks interesting, and fun concept.

Wheresmycow, Your build sounds interesting, as for the story seems fairly suited for the world in its present age. I will be considering it. The knowledge on Chrono Trigger is certainly a benefit, helping to understand the concept a bit more. That's not mandatory though, I am confident that without knowing a thing about that this game will be interesting, but knowing the 'flavor' of a game might amuse some I believe.

LadyLunaris, hope to see what you come up with sometime then, there's no immediate rush the game is going to wait a while as the thoughts are laid out afterall, and before the actual players are picked.

WyzardWhately, seems like a fair concept and something that could be attempted to be pulled off in this game, keeping in mind that the characters may end up destroying it all though to create anew, hard to say just yet. The only solution I hope does -not- come to pass is letting Oblivion claim the rest of the world's pieces. I consider that the only truly 'bad ending' but then again, its an option too if the players decide to go that way or things conspire against them too badly.

Hero lab helps quite a bit. Basically she is a reincarnated wizard. And there are a few spells from Ultimate Magic I see her playing with or looking for. Create Demiplane (along with Lesser/Greater versions)

Create Demiplane exists, but without the 'light' you have to 'keep it' against the Lords of Enthropy yourself.

In other words, you would have to work for it, and it might still fall apart. Also, if all of the Prime Material is eaten up by them, its likely the other planes are next, and demiplanes are but a gulp for the Enthropy Lords after they no longer have to devote their strength to fighting the strength of Prime Material's resistance towards them.

Well right now Create Lesser Demiplane and Create Demiplane are the only ones she has the ability to cast (7 & 8 level resepctively) and they are faily small.. make for good 'hidey holes' if made permanent.

Cool stuff.  The build I'm going for is likely going to be Sorcerer 1/Fighter 4/Dragon Disciple 10, so he's more melee than anything else, but that dash of spell casting will help mix things up a bit, and I'll probably be grabbing utility spells over combat spells.

Developing the story more, I'm thinking the community he grew up in was rather poor, and much of the skilled labor there was needed at the fields, at the smithy and so on.  People couldn't individually raise kids and juggle work, so out of necessity the kids were raised on mass by a rotating collection of adults.  Brand was the child of two would-be heroes, who for whatever reason didn't appropriately fit into the community, and was left behind to be raised.  They never returned of course, but he didn't begrudge it because he had multiple fathers, mothers and siblings.  Growing up, he had some in-born magical talent, which was useful, but without anyone in the community to help him develop it, it was regulated to being used for little useful things while he applied himself to more physical work.  Given the desperate straits of the community, it emphasized hard-work, co-operation and stoicism, and Brand adapted well to that.

Come adulthood, things began to change.  Brand became increasingly restless and aggressive, which wasn't necessarily odd behavior, but it was coupled with an irritation at just how small the community was.  The home he had for his entire life so far no longer felt like home, and he began to craves things he never wanted before: piles of riches, bloody conflicts, power.  After getting into a rather vicious fight with one of his brothers over something trivial, it was finally revealed to him why this was happening: that he was dragon-blooded, just like his mother, and that he was compelled by the blood to leave the community behind and seek his fortunes elsewhere.  It was a guaranteed death sentence, but there would be no satisfaction to staying.  So Brand left, because he had to, and has managed to survive since then.

'Course, I'm still open to suggestions, and I'm so far leaving it vague as to whether or not he's really compelled by the blood to be an adventurer, or it's just him and everyone attributes it to a madness of the blood.

And as for Chrono Trigger, not sure who wants spoilers, so I'll put what I want to say in a spoiler box.
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
It's kind of a classic story, with an imminent doom looming in the future and how the determination of a few people can change it.  Of course, the multiple time lines and when you beat Lavos changed the multiple endings you got.  And then there were the intense personal storylines, which heightened the experience.  Sure there was this big enemy they all needed to fight, but the characters were people too, and had their own problems that needed resolving.  Really rich story.

So, putting my fan-boying aside, is the setting kind of modeled after 2300 AD, except a little less depressing since this world kind of has some hope left to it?

The world is a fantasy world, science has not gone that far. I'd say that in terms of where the world stands, it would be closer to 1000 AD if you want to speak in the "Chrono Trigger" terms.

That is, its a fantasy world, with swords, sorcery and champions that seek to change the world for the better.

Only its gotten to a state where the world is dying, where the lands that are fertile are growing harder and harder to find, the livable area is shrinking, and the edges of the world are chaotic, dangerous, and roamed by monsters that would eat a person alive if they caught one.

It is a world that is gazing down the edge of the abyss, and with a few people that are given a rare opportunity to change things, one more requiem for the world.

This seems like a lot of fun! If you're still accepting, I'd love to submit a character. In all likelihood, I'd either go with:

Korr Chainless
Male Half-Orc
Monk of the Empty Hand (LN)
Brief Bio: When he was young, Korr watched man and woman alike devote themselves to the mastery of martial combat. Some devoted themselves to perfecting their physical body, while others sought to master the various weapons of the world. Of course, good weapons are hard to come by... so Korr adapted. He sought to master the world around him, to make anything and everything he came in contact an extension of his body. After all, why should being poor prevent him from protecting those around him?

Sierra Shriker
Female Human
Acrobat Rogue (CN)
Brief Bio: When you're trying to avoid being caught, being able to move in any direction can make life easier. That's always been Sierra's approach. Sure, she could try and overpower her pursuers... Or she could leave them helplessly in the dust, and avoid the trouble. Even if they do try to chase her, not many people can scale a wall or jump from rooftop to rooftop as easily as she can... They just become easy targets for her arrows.

-----------------------------

I'm leaning more toward Sierra, simply because the Parkour Rogue concept is one I've been wanting to play with for the longest time. But I'd be more than happy to play either, should the opportunity arise. :)

Hello I thought I should express my interest too although I would not wish to steal a place, but this does seam like a wonderful idea and I could not resist but put my base concept down after hearing some interest from Callie.

I was talking with Callie about the possibilities of my character knowing his if my character is acceptable and wanted of course.  Callie seams to like the idea so I shall develop it further and hopefully post something more about it soon.

My idea is basically for a Monk character who has spent most of her life living is demiplanes, she was born in one and raised there by an Order that had taken a step back from its world, made up of monks, wizards etc there they pursued perfection in many aspects and watched over there world. Sending out the young and adventurous into the world and planes to test there mettle and learn as they once had, sending them into other demiplanes to test and perfect there wisdom and understanding.  I was thinking that basically these demiplanes had mostly then been "eaten/absorbed" whatever by Entropy and she had become trapped in one of the few remaining one was may so small and insignificant it escaped the notice, this is where she was met by Callie's character Requiem and rescued and well since then she has joined with her with the same goals and feeling that she owes a debt and that she must be protected for her skills and ability to reform and recreate.

Callie Del Noire

I just had this image of my character stepping into a sealed demiplane to find that 'immortal perfect moment' where the Cherry blossoms are always in bloom and the sun is hitting the Zen garden and lake JUST right. :D

Hey there, Winter!

We spoke of this game earlier, and thus I'm now submitting my character.

Asroc Everslayer, hunter of Entropy

Asroc used to be a fairly normal man, a member of patrol rangers formed some decades after the Advent of the New Sun.  He himself had been born a couple of decades after the apocalyptic battle had been concluded, and grew up in the middle of a ruined world trying to rebuild.  He helped out in his town during his youth, eventually joining the rangers after coming of age.  After all, the world was still a dangerous place, and rangers were needed to patrol the perimeters of what was left of civilization, and guard it against the various monsters spawned by the dead world.  Still, the new sun blazed bright, and kept away the forces of Entropy, so the land was fairly safe for the time being.

After a few years of service, he and his squad were investigating some strange reports of odd energies and anomalies that had sprung up of late.  They made the trek into the borderland, far away from civilization to get to the bottom of if.  There, they found answers, and they were more horrible than they had been able to imagine.  Unstable energies of Entropy tore apart most of his squad as they neared the epicenter of the disturbance, and those that survived were still lashed and scarred by the aberrant energies.  Only when they penetrated the very heart of the Entropic maelstrom, did they behold the reason.  As Asroc and his few survivors stood transfixed by the sight of an unearthly beautiful woman of indescribable features residing there,
they didn't even notice when Entropic beast fell upon them in a fury of darkness, claws and tentacles.  The last of his companions falling around him as they struggled to fight through the beast and Entropic energies to reach the center, Asroc was forever changed by the immense amounts of Entropy which surged through him as he finally broke through the enemies and the barrier of energy surrounding the woman.

His nightmare, however, only began there in earnest.  Having broken into the eye of the Entropic maelstrom, laying there and trying to draw breath and stay alive as the immense energies surged through his body, changing it from the inside out and tearing into his mind as well, he was in no condition to do anything as the woman stalked to him, and smiled.  And his world went dark.

It was only later, during the endless weeks, months, years, of torture and depredation that he learned the identity of the woman who now held him prisoner.  One of the Daughters of Entropy, descendants of the Lords themselves.  The days and weeks blurred together, as the Daughter devised new ways to torment him, with pain, pleasure, humiliation and combat in turns as well as tearing into his mind on occasion.  It only occurred to him during one relatively calm moment of peace and sanity, that apparently his body no longer did much of aging, or needing food or water.  His mind, too, had been expanded into utterly inhuman clarity and focus due to all the mental strain and everpresent Entropic energies.  He began experimenting, and eventually learned to harness his mental energies into useful and destructive purposes.  Slowly, a plan formed in his mind.

After the next indefinable length of agony and depredation she inflicted on him, she left him in peace for a while as usual.  This time, though, Asroc pulled forth all his rage and pain from his mind and blew the dwelling to pieces, slaying most of the beasts guarding the place outright.  He made good on his escape then, destroying the few beasts left with flicks of mental energy as he fled.

Later, he found out that he had been held captive for well over half a century, and had apparently not aged a year during that time.  It took him some time to reconcile his new life with what he had left behind, so he dedicated most of his time learning all he could about the minions of Entropy, and their rulers.  Honing his mind and his body, learning everything about combat he could, so that one day in the future he could consign the Lords of Entropy, and all their successors and followers to Oblivion.

Personality:

As Asroc is an Psionic Elan who was born from most unusual circumstances, he mostly finds himself alone in the world, which lacks the capacity to understand him.  For the most part, that suits him just fine as well.  He wanders the wastelands mostly in silence and solitary peace, seeking out servants and minions of Entropy where he can and honing his arrows of vengeance.  He's a hard and somewhat jaded individual from his earlier experiences, but will occasionally lend a hand to travelers beset with Entropic beasts.  He'll suddenly appear from seemingly nowhere, kill every monster in sight with arrows steeped in bloodlust and killing intent, and vanish just as mysteriously.  During the last century, he's spent less than a dozen days among civilization, preferring to roam the wastelands looking for more things to kill.  He's even ventured out to some of the nearest other Planes of existence, looking for alternate ways to assault Entropy.

As someone who's waged a solitary war against Enropy and its creations for the better part of a century, Asroc is one of the few people who can actually say from their own observations that the new Sun is indeed growing dimmer.  No one can say if it means the sun will simply cease to exist one day, or if it will break open, releasing the warring titans from inside it to wreak havoc in the world once more.  He doesn't really know, nor care.  His hatred is reserved almost wholeheartedly for the Lords and minions of Entropy, whom he will hunt until his dying day.  Which may or may not be in the distant future.

There's the background and personality information, the sheet is still pending a few possible final tweaks, but the last version I sent you was pretty much done.

Oh, and knowing what I know of both your campaign worlds, as well as Chrono Trigger and your other inspirations, all I can say is this:

I too must say that this game intrigues me.  I would be very interested in such an idea, and I think I'll go through with something I've been wanting to be able to try, but haven't ever really had the chance to do so yet and go with a lvl 15 elven sorcerer, probably with the celestial bloodlines, or if that is taboo due to the lack of deities, I will substitute the dragon bloodline.

I'd say go with the goodie goodie celestial bloodline. :D

That's the idea, though I think I'm probably thinking now actually of going half elf rather than full blooded.

It seems that I just can't get enough of Pathfinder these days!

If you're still looking for ideas and are open to including some features from Ultimate Magic (also on the Pathfinder SRD), I'd love to play a mutagen-using brawler of an alchemist.  Of particular interest to me are the flavorful mutations that UM has introduced, like extra limbs, wings, tumor familiars and the like.  In a world torn apart by war and purged with hellfire, having a bit of a twisted-looking character just seems fitting somehow.

As for personality, I was thinking of drawing inspiration from the Alienist class from 3.5e.  I've always loved the idea of a mortal growing arrogant enough to consort with Lovecraftian obscenities, and finding himself horrendously altered or maddened for his hubris.  Now, it seems like the only equivalent of the aberrations of the Far Plane are the Lords of Entropy.  For rather obvious reasons, I'd like to avoid connections with those whose greatest desire is the obliteration of all life!

As this is your setting, I wonder if there's some other alternative that would make this idea work, assuming you'd allow it to begin with.

I've had a lot of interest, a lot more than I expected. At this point I don't think I will be accepting any more applications, I will go through the concepts of everyone that has posted, and I'm looking forward to the game. The scale of the game is aimed for high levels, but with slow advancement. There will be a lot of challenges to face, but I plan on using the slow experience scale, rewarding experience for good roleplay and decisions and changes made in the world, for better or worse.

The original plan was for 3-5 players, and I reserved one slot, so at most I was looking for 6 players. Out of those, I wanted to have LtFox as a reserved seat player, given his previous experience with the setting before its destruction.

So now I have to see through the ideas posted and consider what would be best along in this tale. Its built on Epic journey and as said, the survivors left standing in the end will play a hand in recreating the world itself whether by saving it, or destroying it and giving it a chance of rebirth. As long as you wont let the Lords of Enthropy come claim all that is and sink it to oblivion, I think it'll be an interesting finish.

I am looking through ideas I have received, and wondering what to do with some of them.

Another idea was to split this game into 2, 2 different parties setting out on the same quest, unaware of one another. That would raise the cap to 8 player characters total, 4 people on each team. I would personally rather form 1 team of 6 though. I'm going to listen to the players thoughts on this one.

One group of six is probably the safer option, from a GMing perspective. I'm trying to do the two groups of four thing for one of my games, and it's really rough to organize.

yuna0417

If opens a slot for me, one team of 6 sounds fun.  I would go against 2 teams though, it'd make for GM burnout, and noone wants that.

Seaweed

So, that means because I don't have an idea I'll have to wait for a slot to open up?

Lady Lunarius, I've seen it, and think it is fine, you don't have to share with other players yet, if you do not wish to. I am going to take a little bit to think things through and prepare.

Shihong, the 'Cthulhuan Horrors' would pretty much be the Enthropian Lords in this setting, in a way, but there is also the equilevant of the 'Far Realms' in this world. The beings there just aren't too keen to set their feet on the Prime Material, for most part. Its as alien to them as they are to it.

So if you take Alienist as a thought and inspiration source, you can model a personality according to something like that.

The planes are still intact, but they share one reality. If Prime Material is Lost, then the anchor and heart that holds everything together is lost to Oblivion too already. Prime Material has the highest chance of containing it, a plane already heavily aligned like Hell or Abyss doesn't hold a chance against the onslaught of the Enthropy. Doesn't mean the planar beings still like the Prime Material's folks any better.

There are still Celestials around, its the Gods that are dead, most other things till remain. Though the 'World of Gods', 'Pantheon' lies in ruins. The tools of the Divine are broken, their wills shredded and their bodies gone.

Fantastic!  Y'know Wintercat, I've always kind of wondered that myself when considering the Far Realms.  We look at their dimension and see things so mind-bogglingly alien that it shatters the mind, like a two-dimensional being looking into a three-dimensional landscape.  But as three-dimensional beings ourselves, the idea of being transported into two-dimensions is equally bewildering and restrictive.

Consider my character the sort that seeks a way to transcend the limitations of three dimensions by taking on aspects of these alien beings.

It will require a bit of thought on my part, but in the meantime I'll knock together a character sheet.

One team of six sounds like the better idea.

And I like the idea that maybe one of the only ways to save the world is to destroy it all and wipe the slate clean for a new start.  Like the season 3 ending for Reboot.  Be really neat to have the characters destroy the light that encompasses Cho'den and the Paladin-Sorcerer, and using the released energies to become gods.  From there maybe finding some way to kill Cho'den and then harness his powers to rebirth the world.

Thirty-two Gods tried to kill Cho'den.

Now there are no more Gods.

EDIT: Of course, if you really want to take a go at it, you are welcome to try. I just want to point out that a 'common sense' would point out that the outcome would be in serious doubt. The only 'Equal' he has is the Paladin-Sorcerer he is fighting against, and the place they -began- their battle at is a huge crater at the middle of the known world.

Still, indeed one of the options might be to find a way to break down the containment, but depending on who is winning, and who is losing, the results might be even worse. Who knows, perhaps neither is alive any longer, or perhaps both are, it seems rather impossible to say for certain, the light seems to have dimmed and things are getting more bleak as time passes.

Its a world that might need that 'rebirth' if saving and 'restoring' it is no longer possible.

The main problem still remains as the Lords of Enthropy, what keeps them from devouring it all.

Salutations neighbors.  I've been talking with Wintercat about my paladin concept in private messages for a bit now.  I hope I can get her to come together in time for proper consideration.

I'm working on the idea of a young woman who grew up hearing stories of a time when the sun was warm and bright, and gained such hope from these songs and tales that they inspired her to heroisim 'til she found a paladin's power in them as if they were a god.

Muse

Hanali Dawnfire

When I was a little girl, grandmother would sing too me,

Let me remember the earthlight,
Let me remember the warm,
Show me again in my dreamsight,
The fire at the heart of the dawn.

I dreamed of the old sun long before I knew what it was.  A great fire that rose beyond the edge of the world, warming and lighting all but scorching nothing.  I swore to serve that light a thousand times, that I would work to make it come back to us.
Father wanted me to work a different fire.  He taught me to bring fire from the black stones that would turn iron bars into steel, steel into plowshares.
I played at swords with the boys.  When they went to the militia captain to learn the spear, I went with them.  My strength came from a blacksmith’s hammer, not a kitchen knife, and none of the boys could match me, so the militia teacher taught me in spite of what my father said.
When the orcs came in force, our spears and bows weren’t enough.  I did what my father wouldn’t.
It wasn’t so hard, beating plowshares into swords.  I quenched them in my tears, though, because I knew that—though we’d been cold and hungry in our village—we’d known peace ‘til now.
We would never have it again.

*Grins* I find that common sense and epic rarely coincide.

"Yes, thirty-two gods fought and died, but they were weak gods.  Gods who languished in their divine halls, who drank in their worship and bestowed petty blessings upon the world in order to remind us of their power.  But we, we who inhabit a dying world, who have been hammered by chaos and strife, our backs broken by our despair from the inevitable doom by the Lords of Enthropy, are strong.  We are strong because we have armored ourselves with chaos, strife and despair.  We have drunk suffering, feasted on conflict and it has made us strong.

We know of no gods, so we will replace them, and do what thirty-two gods could not."

'Course, whether or not that pans out is something left to be seen.  Cho'den might as well be a force rather than an actual being.  But in terms of epic, accomplishing what the gods couldn't would definitely be rather epic in scope.  Of course, alternatively, kicking Lords of Enthropy ass would also fit right in the epic.  Really, any plan considered insane by the normal populace to save/restore/rebirth the world would probably be a good one to pursue by such high level characters.  I just like musing about possible plans.

Well, considering that plotting and planning how he can murder all beings born of Entropy is something my character spends most of his time on, I'd say he's leaning towards the "Exterminate Entropy" flavor of Epic.

Of course, it's also just common sense not to get between two powers who nearly destroyed the world with their clash before being sealed away... There's not only Cho'Den to consider, but also the fact that Paladin-Sorcerer exhibits similar level of power, and while not intentional on his part, the mere spillover of 2x Pantheon killing power to the surrounding area might prove somewhat ...unhealthy.

Of course, the Lords of Entropy are probably just as dangerous, maybe not in such an over way, but are World-devouring beings, after all.

Anyway, let's make it a fun and interesting game!

The character roster is starting to look ready... So.

I would like the following people to submit their complete, finalized and fully tweaked-together characters during this weekend if possible, next week if they can.
* LtFox - Character Received
* Muse - Character Received
* Shihong - Character Received
* Wheresmycow - Character Received
* Callie Del Noire - Characted Received, Tweaking Left?
* Black Howling - Concept Received, Awaiting Finished Character
* Lady Lunarius - Concept Received, Awaiting Finished Character

That's a total of 7 players, 1 more than I originally planned to have, but lets just say I'm a glutton for good concepts. Also, this prevents us from suffering if 1 of the players decides to step down and quit at some point. Also, I found myself unable to really cast aside the characters I have seen given form for this.

"I dreamed of the old sun long before I knew what it was.  A great fire that rose beyond the edge of the world, warming and lighting all but scorching nothing.  I swore to serve that light a thousand times, that I would work to make it come back to us.
"Father wanted me to work a different fire.  He taught me to bring fire from the black stones that would turn iron bars into steel, steel into plowshares.
"I played at swords with the boys.
"It wasn’t so hard, beating plowshares into swords.  I quenched them in my tears, though, because I knew that—though we’d been cold and hungry in our village—we’d known peace ‘til now.
"We would never have it again."

Name:      Hanali Dawnfire
Class:      Paladin: Warrior of the Holy Light
Age:      26
Height      5’9”
Weight      181
Measures
Skin      A healthy tan in a world where the sun has no strength left.
Hair      Fiery Red
Eyes:      Wide blue.

The red haired girl had passed twenty five now but no pox or scar marred her looks.  Indeed, while most girls her age were pale from the feeble sun and strained from bearing their husband too many children too fast, Hanali was not only ripe and healthy as a maid of sixteen, her skin bore an appealing coppery shade that few had seen on a maid in over a century.

I traveled with the shieldmaiden Hanali once.  She forged me this sword with steel and magic, gave it power with her courage and quenched it in her tears for the suffering of the world.  She has the widest azure eyes, like sapphires they are, always on the verge of tearing up for suffering of those she couldn’t help.  She loved to sing about the sun of old, how it set the sky aflame—warming all but burning none.  I looked at her lips, and at her eyes, and though I’d never seen either of the things I was comparing, I knew the truth in my next words.  ‘Then it must by like your smile.’  Hanali cried then,  and her smile was as beautiful as I had ever imagined.

Class Abilities:
Aura of Good L 15
Detect Evil (Sp):  At will, a paladin can use detect evil, as the spell. A paladin can, as a move action, concentrate on a single item or individual within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, the paladin does not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.
Smite Evil 4/day.  Hanali invokes the Fire at the Heart of the Dawn to aid her in battle against evil.  As a swift action, she chooses one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, she adds her Cha bonus (if any) to her attack rolls and adds her paladin level to all damage rolls made against the target of her smite. If the target of smite evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to 2 points of damage per level the paladin possesses. Regardless of the target, smite evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess.
In addition, while smite evil is in effect, the paladin gains a deflection bonus equal to her Charisma modifier (if any) to her AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If the paladin targets a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect.
The smite evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time the paladin rests and regains her uses of this ability.
Divine Grace

Lay On Hands: 17/Day
--Cures 7d6 damage and removes the following conditions: fatigued, diseased, poisoned, and blinded.

Channel Positive Energy (As Cleric Level 15, DC 17+Cha) uses Lay On Hands.

Call Mount at Level 3 (Cellestial Heavy Horse with Spell Resistence 26, as Druid Animal Compaion.)

Corona of the old sun:
At 4th level, Hanali learns to use the power of her faith to bolster her defenses and aid her allies. This class feature replaces her spells class feature. She does not gain any spells or spellcasting abilities, does not have a caster level, and cannot use spell trigger or spell completion magic items.
At 4th level, she gains one additional use of her lay on hands ability per day. She gains one additional use of lay on hands per day for every four levels she attains beyond 4th. She can spend a use of her lay on hands ability to call upon the power of her faith as a standard action. This causes a nimbus of light to emanate from her in a 30-foot radius. All allies in this area (including the Hanali) receive a +1 morale bonus to AC and on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws against fear as long as they remain in the area of light. This power lasts for 1 minute.
At 8th level, the nimbus of light heals the Hanali and her allies, curing of them of 1d4 points of ability damage, as per the spell lesser restoration. A creature can only be healed in this way once per day.
At 12th level, the nimbus of light is treated as daylight for the purposes of affecting creatures with sensitivity to light. In addition, the nimbus grants allies in the area resistance 10 to one type of energy, selected by Hanali when this power is activated.
Shining Light (Su)  DC 24
At 14th level, Hanali can unleash a 30-foot burst of pure, white light as a standard action. evil creatures within this burst take 1d6 points of damage for every two paladin levels and are blinded for 1 round. Evil dragons, evil outsiders, and evil undead are blinded for 1d4 rounds on a failed save. A Reflex save halves this damage and negates the blindness. The DC of this save is equal to 10 + 1/2 the warrior of the holy light’s level + the warrior of the holy light’s Charisma modifier. good creatures within this burst are healed 1d6 points of damage per two paladin levels and receive a +2 sacred bonus on ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws, and skill checks for 1 round. A warrior of the holy light can use this ability once per day at 14th level plus one additional time per day at 17th and 20th levels. This ability replaces aura of faith.

   Ring:
+5 Deflection Bonus to AC
Negates any force spell or spell-like ability targeted at the wearer. Doing so gives the ring a number of charges equal to the spell level of the incoming force effect. The ring can hold a maximum of nine charges. If an incoming force attack would charge the ring beyond this limit, the ring does not negate the attack or gain charges, and the attack affects the wearer normally. On command, the wearer can use the ring's charges to cast magic missile, unleashing one missile (1d4+1 force damage) per charge but no more than five missiles per round.

DC 15: This ring is made of a metal similar to silver, yet it refuses to bend and break, it might be mithril at first guess but its strength surpasses even that. Perhaps its just the enchantment, but some people swear the protective quality of this ring is just an aura it projects around itself and whoever it carries, reserving most of its strength inside.

DC 20: The ring has old runes engraved in its inside, and the long gemstone upon it glows radiant as it absorbs more and more power. This power seems to awaken only when its exposed to spells of particular nature, of force.

In the past, long long before the coming of Cho'den, there was a grand duchy that fought to protect the lives of the people within it, and to stabilize an already shaken land. The son of the Duke was given this ring when he was of age, on a journey to find the Legendary Hero. On this journey, he perished, slain by the hand of the Wizard Blackstaff, and this ring was lost to the ages. It surfaced again a long time later to be worn by the Crown Prince Willhelm the Pure, a knight in service of a powerful order of nobles. He fought to unite many lands under the same banner, to bring stability to the entire region, until his Lords were revealed to be evil, and alongside a Paladin he fought this threat he had unwittingly been serving before. In time, he passed away, and left the ring to travel
down a lineage of lesser heroes, small time monarchs, and always vanishing for a few years now and then to return in times of need. Eventually, it resurfaced with the coming of Cho'den, in the hands of Baron Highstorm. He lead a charge against the minions of Cho'den, felling countless undead beings with his own might, until a wicked spell became his doom, turning his very flesh to stone. In his stone finger, the ring remained for ages, until a great battle annihilated not only the statue of the Baron but the ground beneath it, throwing the ring away, and forgotten. In time, it was found once more, and taken up by a woman that believed it a trinket of good luck. In time, it made its ways to worthy hands once more.

There, Brand is done and accounted for.

Bio: Every story starts somewhere.  Mine starts in small village no one has heard of, and probably never will.  I've never known my parents, but I was raised by many.  Our village was so poor, too poor to afford the luxuries of different families.  Everyone needed to work, and no one could afford sparing time each day for the children.  So instead, we were missed as one, one large family of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters.  I was loved no more or less than the others, for all my lack of a mother and father to contribute.

As harsh winters gave way to merciless summers, bountiful springs too short in-between, I grew.  Taller, stronger, tougher than my peers, I started work earlier.  But we all worked in the end, and we all worked together because our dying world would allow nothing less.  We bore our lot in life without complaint, because they were breath wasted which could be spent on work.

It was when I reached adulthood that the dreams started.  Dreams of gold that were more precious than potatoes, of cutting people down like wheat and of women beautiful and naked and mine.  These dreams didn't leave me when I awoke, and I hungered.  I tried to contain my desires, tried to be dutiful as I had been taught, but it was so hard and I could tell no one.  It wasn't until I stood over the unconscious body of my brother, wailing like a madman for aid, that I learned why I hungered.  There was dragon's blood in me, just like my mother.  And even though it was only a small part, the human in me would stand no chance against it.  I would always hunger and there would never be enough.

So I left, a somber farewell because I was dead man.  But I still live, and I hope to find an end to the hunger.  Maybe fixing a dying world will do it.

Height: 6'4"
Weight: 219 lbs
Skin: Olive.
Hair: Black dreads that are really very small black dragon scales.  Think of Queen of Blade's hair if you need a visual reference.
Eyes: Gold, slightly canted.
Other notable features: Black scales grow along the back of his hand and forearms, across his chest and down to his belly, along his spine and the front of his legs.  More pronounced canines.  When he manifests his wings, they are black and can fold around him like bat wings.

Alright now, we have ourselves 4 ready players, and 3 more to go. I'll try and see about setting up the threads, planning on OOC, Character Archive, and IC thread. If players decide to pursue some mini-matters on the side, I may put up mini-threads linking back to the main thread, but that will be seen.

In general though, I think I should note this for Callie at least. Ultimate Magic is available for use now that i've gotten my hands on it, though confirm with me please if you seek to take up more than the spells in it, since i've mainly focused on checking out those and a few of the Alchemist & Summoner 'options' lately.

Working on the character now. Sorry for slacking. You know what I'm gonna make, and I'll submit the full of it before Monday morning. I know I'm sucking bad, just had things get hectic with my appointments.

Callie Del Noire

Working on characters now.. I am just curious as to how many spells I can get per level/how to pay for the extras, ect. Spells get expensive for a wizard's spell book. :D Shame I can't get a staff of power/magi but they priced that out of any mages range unless it shows up as part of the game.

Crovonovin

I seriously doubt anyone is going to get all uppity at you for things outside your control.  I know I would rather you take the time to make the character you really want, rather than rush ahead like we're on some insane time limit here.

Unless I'm mistaken Callie (and this may just be for 3.5e), I believe you get three+int modifier spells per level.

Black Howling, I'm not running this on a military standard or anything, no worry on taking a little bit to work on it, I wasn't sure if this game would have any interest at all to begin with, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Turned out it had more interest than I'd guessed it would, and now I am just glad there's folks wanting to give it a try.

As for Callie's question on the spells per level, I think that its the standard amount in Pathfinder for spells gained per level, and as for extras, it eats up a bit of the budget for gear I imagine but they ought to help pay themselves back in a while.

Of course if I wanted to be a total bastard I'd remember a single spellbook has 100 pages, and spells take 1 page per spell level...

And then I recall I am only that bitchy to people I really, really dislike.

Aaaand we don't got any of those in here, heheh.

Besides, if it ever became a problem I've had folks run into mystic 'blessed books' before that contain roughly 1,000 pages but still weight that 3 lbs as a 100 pages book would. The benefits of a bit of magic, specialized in storing only 'similar' things, namely pages, afterall.

Ahem, anyway, looking forward to this and curious to see it in motion.

Till you start hitting the 200 gp or higher per spell. Or something like 1.1k each for 6th level spells.. buying them as scrolls that my character scribed out. Ate up a tonne o' coin.

Muse

MEep!

You don't have too buy them as scrolls, Callie!

It's VASTLY cheaper to pay another caster to copy from their spell book!

Look in the spellcasting chapter for the chart?  I'd give you a page number but  my core book is missing!

He's right, I had a player school me on this a while back. It's easy to pay other casters to let you copy from the book, and it's shortly after you hit the magic section. I'll see if I can't look up the page number for you, or link you to the OGC.

Oh, question been meaning to ask: before game starts, are our characters going to meeting each other for the first time, will some of the characters have already met some, or do we all know of each other?

I'd been wondering the same thing, I kinda think the idea of them having been together a couple months does add some ease in the beginning. Winter?

I honestly did not recall that bit about getting spells cheaper by copying from another wizard's spellbook. My bad on that at least, but then again, powerful wizards are -far and wide- in that world now.

I am seeing it as the characters having arrived to the town where the word has spread that the Sage was last seen at, at least according to rumors, and starting the game there. I will try and have the thread going on soon, just waiting the last characters to be done for that purpose. Mainly because it might be awkward without them.

Like I said .. all is left is tranfering the stuff from herolab to plothook.

Would it be alright if some of the characters knew at least someone else?

They should have had the chance to at least hear from one another a bit, unless they were purposefully keeping silent about themselves and keeping others from learning it as well. Given the times, the powerful people tend to get noticed eventually at least.

I'm waiting the last characters to be completed before posting up the intro, but I plan to start this game on this Friday if possible, earlier if I get the sheets. In case someone cant return their character by then, well alright I'll just expect it as soon as possible.
I've taken the Oath of The Drake. Remind me of it if you think I act against it.

Ah, so some of the characters would have some rumors about them that others might have heard about.

It is an optional thing.

Anyhow, Starting up next Friday, 10th of June, this game will launch.

I've been informed a single player might not be there at the start, but the player list is the set 7 and I don't plan on altering it.

Are you ready to face the challenge? Do you have what it takes to change the fate of this dying world?

Will you be its saviors.. or will you hand it over to destruction?

Most importantly, will you give the Lords of Enthropy a very, very bad day?

We shall see.

Your characters will be big fish in the pond as the game starts, with the suffering and pain spread out through the dying lands showing how many have been cut down while the few stand up still and remain.

It doesn't mean it will be easy for them. Big players still face big challenges as well.
