Nobody ever leaves Night City. Except in a body bag.
– Bes Isis, N54 newscaster

I'm looking to start a freeform sandbox RP based in the Cyberpunk 2077 setting. People had mixed opinions on the game (I loved it) but before all of that it was a setting people were going crazy for. I'm still super keen on it. My current plan is to use the nightclub Afterlife as the main hub of RP, where characters are free to mingle in general. We'll set up other boards for character apartments/other parts of the city and being a sandbox players will be encouraged to go off on their own adventures as they see fit. Not everyone needs to play a Merc however, certainly I would expect & hope to see Fixers, Ripperdocs, Joy Toys and the very many other variations of people that make Night City so damn colourful.

Do I need to have played Cyberpunk?
Not necessarily, if you're familiar with the 'Cyberpunk' genre in general you know what to expect in a dystopian futuristic location like Night City. You could simply treat it as a general RP playground and avoid particular details. That being said it wouldn't hurt having a wiki open when writing your character app.

Will you be 'GMing' the story?
No. This is a collaborative narrative. I will set up a Discord chat we can use to keep in contact, plot events, organise and world build but I will not be GMing. At most I will be a first among equals who might nudge things along or take the lead as we get started.

Is V an open character?
No. We're going to assume for whatever reason the Biochip was never a factor and V never got wrapped up in everything. That being said I'm happy for particular events not related to the Biochip from the game to be referenced. So when building the lore for your character you can 'claim' certain jobs/events from the game. For instance my character will be rocking some guerrilla arms so I might run with the idea he beat Razor Hugh in the Beat on the Brat Prize fight. We'll spread V's achievements across the board.

Why is the Character Sheet code in two parts?
Depending on player familiarity with the game/setting, I've split it up. The game is entirely freeform, so if you want to put 'long range combat' under 'Specialties' and assume your character has some sort of sniper rifle that's fine. That being said if you enjoy selecting the exact items your character likes (either as a newcomer to the scene, a living legend or anything in between) feel free to slide the second part in.

Hmmm... this tickles my fancy. I'll have to acquaint myself with the setting as I know the tabletop from back in the day but not the video game.

I'm the other way around, I played the game but never the tabletop. I picked up Cyberpunk Red but I can't convince my D&D group to give D&D a break.

I told myself I'd hold off until some big DLC comes out, but I just can't wait. Diving back in to recreate my first V now!

I played Cyberpunk and 2020, watched my son play a TON of 2077 (and will eventually play it myself) BUT what I always loved was that the setting reminded me so much of Gibson's Neuromancer...soo...my brain automatically thought solo class...*blinks* A slightly tech-savvy solo roped into working for some random corp and cut loose after a failure. *soft sigh*

and then my brain lost itself. Help me find it?

Might have had an idea or two. Let me know if it goes too far, or not far enough.

Character: "Jack B. Nimble"
Player: TheVillain

Lifepath: Ex-Corpo
Role: Infiltration-Solo
Specialties:

  • Stealth
  • B&E
  • Spycraft

Personality:

  • "Jack B. Nimble" is a frequent Liar but is weirdly honest about it. He'll never tell you his real name but he will fully admit that "Jack B. Nimble" isn't his real name.
  • Has an an Extremely Dry Sense of Humor, and jokes that his barbs can drop Maelstrom members at 20 paces.
  • Seems weirdly noble at times, and has admitted that a lot of what he does is actually done out of a sense of remorse for horrible things he's done in his past.

History:

  • Absolutely refuses to share large parts of his past with anyone. Computer analysis of his vocal patterns has suggested that French is his first language but he was trained to hide his accent. Whatever that might be.
  • Has admitted that he used to work for one of the big corporations, though he refuses to say which one. He has once or twice admitted that during this time he did so many awful things that he went all the way back around to having a conscience again.
  • Has joked that he's had to fake his own death "more than once". Some of the contexts of these jokes have hinted that he's not entirely kidding.

Relationships/Connections:

  • Interactions between Rogue and "Jack B. Nimble" have led some to deduce, correctly, that Rogue knows his true identity. She seems sympathetic to the idea of a remorseful ex-Corpo Wetwork specialist, but will not hesitate to take advantage her inside information.
  • "Jack B. Nimble" claims to know the mysterious and reclusive conspiracy theorist and DJ "Maximum Mike". He claims to have seen proof that a lot of MM's conspiracy theories aren't as crazy as they look at a glance.
  • [Player Connection Here]

Weapons/Equipment:

  • Silenced Pistol - It's not the size of the bullet it's where you put it.
  • External Datalink Extensions - For when you need to steal a lot more data much faster then the one in your wrist can hold.
  • Automatic Lockpicks - Classic Tools, with an Upgrade.

Cyberware:

  • Active Optical Camo - Thanks to extensive Integumentary modifications coupled with a special full-body suit he uses, "Jack B. Nimble" can turn Invisible with a mental command. Sort of. The system requires its own power battery system and if he stands perfectly still a full battery charge will only last about 30 seconds. If he moves the system has to burn through the charge faster to compensate. At a dead sprint the system only lasts *maybe* 10 seconds and even then there might be a visual-blending effect. Afterwords he has to recharge the systems on an external power source of some kind.
  • Fortified Ankles - A simple name for a complex system that takes up a surprisingly high volume of his legs, "Jack B. Nimble" has a standard jump height of somewhere in the neighborhood of 10-15 meters vertically. Enough that he can easily jump from ground level to about a 3rd story window if desired for a point of entry. He also takes significantly less damage from falls if he lands on his feet, though even this has limits.
  • Microwire - At a glance this appears to be as a cheap knock-off of the vamous Monowire weapon system, a wire said to be only 1 molecule thick for a frighteningly effective cutting edge. And Jack would agree, Microwire isn't as good of a weapon as Monowire and isn't nearly as sharp. But in his experience Microwire is still 80-90% as effective as a weapon and *much* better at utility work. A grapple line, a makeshift lariet, a tripwire - use your imagination. To further trade weapon effectiveness for utility the microwire’s tips can be magnetized.
  • Kiroshi Optics Mk. 3 - Forewarned, Forarmed. Jack B. Nimble has made sure his optical sensors are top notch and while he is by no means a full Netrunner he does know enough of the basics to be able to deliver basic attack programs and tricks written by others.

Additional Details:

  • "Jack B. Nimble" has probably the worst thing an Edgerunner can have if they expect to survive. A Conscience. You can easily see it in how he picks work for example, he is definitely taking morality into account when he picks jobs and his prices. He might even agree to work Pro Bono if the cause is good enough.
  • Whether or not you believe that he used to work Wetwork for one of the bigger corporations, "Jack B. Nimble" has obviously been extremely well-trained at Stealth and Espionage. In a fair fight he’s not the most effective solo but he’s very good at making sure any fight he gets into isn’t fair. As such he can be seen as a shockingly talented killer even by Edgerunner standards when he wants to be. The only problem is that he absolutely refuses to kill on jobs unless he knows *for an undisputed fact* that his intended victim deserves it.
  • While he has worked to replace his jailbroken corporate 'ware with non-corporate replacements, he hasn't suceeded in replacing it all yet and if his old bosses figure out he's still alive that could cause lots of problems for him.

Sounds like we'll have a bunch of Corpo connections, I was expecting more streetkids! That being said similar backgrounds will make forming connections easier.  ;D

Well, my idea thus far is a wannabe pop starlet who does sketchy things to get by until she can finally sell out to a corporation.

Some of the stuff I said in the app looks like it refers to lore but really is just fun stuff I sprinkled in. Just a head’s up. :P

Some lore stuff that is relevant though -
- “Maximum Mike” is the self-insert of Mike Pondsmith. In-Universe he’s considered relatively famous for a conspiracy theorist but ultimately is written off as a crank. Ironically, people have investigated his conspiracy theories and have discovered that he’s actually a *lot* more right than he gets credit for. Whether he’s that well-connected or just that astute an observer of the human condition is unknown.
- France did come out of the corporate wars relatively unscathed and is arguably the most economically and politically powerful country in Europe. It was a founding member of the EEC, and Paris is the home of what would become the first major Arasaka office outside of Japan. So while the origins of “Jack B. Nimble” are unknown to all but Rogue and himself, a French Ex-Arasaka Wetwork Specialist is considered very plausible.
- Life for the average Parisian is actually surprisingly similar to life for the average Night City resident in many ways. The unemployment rate is higher in Paris but the safety net is a little better, if only a little. Other than that, the surviving 18th century architecture, and the obvious fact that French is the main language day-to-day life is largely the same. Paris even had a similar population and density with 4 million residents to Night City’s 5 million. So a former Paris resident adjusting to life in Night City, also very plausible.

Seems solid to me!

I'm hoping to get my character sheet up asap, going to use my original V as a model and then swap up the lore. Highly established Solo, CQC specialist. Corpo lifepath & now big time anti-Arasaka. Has a nasty pair of Gorilla Arms & a fortune in cyberware to support their use. Pulls out a katana occasionally because he just bloody loves it. Uses weapons & armour he's customized himself (read, high Body & Technical). Loves street vendor coffee & food. The friendliest Apex Predator you ever did meet.

Angie

I was gonna go Street Kid, basically just kind of copy the background I had in mind for my V and apply it to a character that wouldn't agree to steal a car just to help out a bar.

Sounds ideal!

TheVillain

Heh, gave it some thought. I basically made a V that went all-in on Cool. *All* In. Like also dropped some points in Intelligence but didn’t even do enough there to make a decent Netrunner.

So in a fair fight Apex would wipe the floor with Nimble, of course. But Jack’s based his whole careers past and present on the concept that fair fights are for suckers.

Character: Concobhar Mac Cárthaigh // Vane Redbeard
Player: Primarch

Lifepath: Corpo
Role: Solo
Specialties:

  • Close Quarters Combat
  • Corpo Involvement
  • Technical Skills

Personality:

  • He's actually a really nice guy? - Vane has been a regular at the Afterlife since his name became something in Night City. Beyond Afterlife he's a known man about town, frequenting several other clubs & bars He's on first name terms with several of his favourite coffee & food vendors. Despite his reputation as a big, bad Merc Solo he's generally known for being approachable, gregarious, honest & even well meaning.
  • None So Fierce - Nice guy in his social life or not, when it comes to work Vane is a professional Solo. In days gone by he was a ruthless Arasaka counterintelligence operative and now he's one of Night City's most lethal. Anyone who has seen him switch on his Berserk implant and get the job done know he's the best at what he does.
  • A Merc's Merc - Vane is big on the 'Brotherhood' within the Merc community. People in the circuit know his word is good as gold & he's reliable. If people are in trouble they can turn to him, and he's helped countless newbie's get their bearings within the lifestyle. If you need him, he's got your back.

History:

  • Born 'Concobhar Mac Cárthaigh' to a Corporate family in Charter Hill, Night City. It was always understood Concobhar would go into the Corporate lifestyle and so his education was streamlined for that benefit.
  • Fought in the Unification War where he gained valuable combat experience & an understanding of military operations. After the war he was employed by the Arasaka Corporation. As a counterintelligence operative he trained in creating and maintaining intelligence networks, establishing defense of corporate assets in the event of armed conflict & crisis impact analysis. Eventually however 'office politics' resulted in his 'dismissal' (to put things lightly).
  • After Arasaka Concobhar got involved in Merc work, at first it was just a way to made some eddies. Military experience makes for a useful Solo and an extra gun is always useful. The jobs kept coming and he started running with a regular crew, a new little family. It was at this time he started being known as 'Vane' or occasionally 'Vane Redbeard,' Vane being his callsign back during the war and Redbeard....because his beard was red.
  • Vane proved to be an ambitious and highly skilled Solo, quickly integrating him in the Merc/Solo community. His reputation grew steadily for his capabilities & reliability. Like many he was chasing the fame & prestige of the lifestyle that would permanently imprint his name in the history of Night City. When the jobs got more intense Vane started investing more & more of his pay back into equipment, in particular the fortune he spent on cyberware.
  • These days Vane is a living legend, or as some put it 'an Afterlife drink waiting to happen' but he hasn't gone down in a blaze of glory just yet. If he can't die like a legend, the gonk will just live like one, for now.

Relationships/Connections:

  • Will update after plotting
  • Will update after plotting
  • Will update after plotting

Weapons/Equipment:

  • Jinchu-Maru
  • SOR-22
  • Malorian Overture

Cyberware:

  • Frontal Cortex: Limbic System Enhancement, Heal-On-Kill, Self-Ice
  • Ocular System: Kiroshi Optics Mk. 3
  • Operating System: Militech Berserk MK.5
  • Circulatory System: Adrenaline Booster, Second Heart, Bioplastic Blood Vessels
  • Immune System: Cataresist, Pain Editor, Detoxifier
  • Nervous System: Kerenzikov, Neofiber
  • Integumentary System: Subdermal Armour, Supra-dermal Weave, Fireproof Coating
  • Skeleton Cyberware: Titanium Bones, Microrotors
  • Hands Cyberware: None
  • Arms Cyberware: Gorilla Arms - Animal Knuckles, Black-Market Battery
  • Legs Cyberware: Reinforced Tendons

Additional Details:

  • Its well known that Vane is one of, if not the premiere Solo's when it comes to CQC, being tremendously dangerous with both his gorilla arms & a katana. People often question the redundancy of Vane fighting with both. Truth be told there's no tactical reason behind it, Vane just loves them. Though dangerous with both, its the gorilla arms that really put him on the map. With his state-of-the-art gorilla arms (and the small fortune of other cyberware that support their use) he knocked the fuck out of professional heavy weight boxing champion Razor Hugh in a prize fight, Later while on an Op targeting Arasaka he was intercepted by Sandayu Oda, the legendary bodyguard of Hanako Arasaka. Vane spared Oda's life but claimed the sword Jinchu-Maru, which is now his katana of choice.
  • Vane has personally modified all of his equipment, becoming something of a master artisan when it comes to upgrading weapons and protective clothing. While his signature accessories are a pair of aviators and some dog tags from the war, his style in general has been called 'Construction worker-chic,' as it tends to feature heavy boots, cargo pants & shirt worn over a t-shirt or vest. Those familiar with such things however will notice the protective mesh-weaves and armadillo mods used to strengthen the material.
  • Despite his very casual fashion sense Vane drives a very fancy Caliburn hypercar. Almost immediately after purchasing it he crashed it. Its since been repaired and he's gotten used to its horsepower.
  • While Vane is indisputably one of the most effective Solo's in Night City, by his own admission he's not overtly fond of jobs where discretion is key. While he can be discreet if the job requires it, he's better suited to jobs that require 'sending a message' or overwhelming brute force.
  • Vane is a big fan of cheap coffee & Night City street vendor food. Before any operation he'll get something to eat, often a burrito or some noodles. A personal tradition. A latte is a great way to bribe him.

Character: Devi Shear/ "N0liss"
Player: Wolfi

Lifepath: Nomad
Role: Net Runner
Specialties:

  • Hacking: Devi has an especially light touch with most user interfaces. Her code is a bit touch and go as she is self-taught but when she is in the zone, she sees it ALL...and can find out MORE.
  • Cyber Security: ICE won't stop her. She's cracked plenty of secure sites and sold the info on how she did it to especially intelligent Corpos looking to impress. Gave her a nice little nest egg...and a few back doors. It also taught her what NOT to do with her own rig and her friends' gear.
  • Programming: Self-taught with a liberal dose of borrowing from others who did it best...and then tinkering until it's something new, Devi can usually build you something to get you in or out, Give her a few minutes though, damn.

Personality:

  • Attentive: Devi tends to hyperfocus. If she is interested in the job or you, well she listens intently and recalls everything she's heard. This can be quite distracting if there are two things of interest happening at the same time. However, this does make for a very intense personality when cred is on the line.
  • Quirky: Her dress style, the location of her interface plug, even the places she chooses to doss down for a week or so. None of those things quite go together. She doesn't care, never has. In fact, all she needs is her rig, her bike, and a bed and she'd happily disappear from the world.
  • Quiet: Words are wasted on most people. If she attempts to carry on a conversation with you for longer than two minutes? You must be pretty interesting. Take it as the compliment it was surely meant to be.

History:

  • Early Days - Blood Nation: Devi is the offspring of a Haitian father and Cuban mother and spent her formative years with her Nomad fam on the highways and byways of the East Coast, learning about the value of entertainment. Due to a crack-up just after her 16th birthday, she developed severe motion sickness and got her first neuro implant to offset it. Between the VR education and fiddling around on one too many rigs, Devi developed a taste for hacking while earning her first bit of cash doing small tech fixes for the Gargoyles.
  • Night City Arrival - Three Years Ago: She chose to leave her fam when the constant travel began to affect her equilibrium in severely detrimental ways.  It was decided by her Pack's Houngan. that she should head for Night City. After all, a good Net Head is hard to find and expensive to keep. Most of her gear were gifts from her immediate family and she's worked diligently to keep everything in prime condition. She has done some work for MetaCorp and is known to most by her handle: N0Liss.
  • Now: Well known in certain circles for the quality of her work, N0Liss spends an inordinate amount of time hanging around Afterlife. Perhaps she should switch to homegrown?

Relationships/Connections:

  • TBD
  • TBD
  • TBD

Additional Details:

Weapons/Equipment:

  • Stephenson Tech Cyberdeck: when you care enough to quick hack with the very best.
  • 2 HJKE-11 YUKIMURA I mean, look at 'em!!

Cyberware:

  • Circulatory System: BioConductor, Tyrosine Injector
  • Frontal Cortex: Self ICE, Memory Boost, Ex Disc
  • Hands: Smart Link

I'm currently considering a ripperdoc, as it gives opportunities to interact with multiple characters and one is likely needed. Thoughts?  It's another late night of working for me, so hopefully I can get a sheet started tomorrow.

Have you played the game? Go more for a Victor than a Fingers.

I do kind of like the idea of a ripperdoc who stresses the Doc syllable. Like they want to stress the medical side, they just also do cybernetics to keep the clinic open.

Just a thought. Feel free to ignore.

I haven't, so the specific character names are something I need to research. I spent some time yesterday reading wikis.

I'm more interested in stressing the doc side with a side of cybernetics, so I guess my instincts are on the right path. But, if a doc isn't needed, that's okay too.

Angie

Alright, here's a first shot!

Character: Chikao/Choko Tanaka
Player: Angie

Lifepath: Street Kid
Role: Fixer
Specialties:

  • Hacking: Her skill ever since she was younger and got her first cyberdeck, Choko is ridiculously quick on the hack and can make even the best security systems feel like tissue paper. She doesn't use it as much, though.
  • Decryption: Choko likes picking apart encrypted systems, to the point where she would do it for other teams for a quick paycheck. Learned a lot of things that corpos would rather keep hidden.
  • Dug In: Choko has encrypted, hidden access to many corporate message boards and chatrooms. Often times, she's aware of corpos needing a team or a merc long before anything official happens. Originally she did this to keep eyes on corpo interests, but now she does it because it helps her set up deals.

Personality:

  • Awkward: Having spent most of her time running the net, she's not all that good talking with people. Encounters in virtual space tend to be much more fluid.
  • Paranoid: A life of fending for herself has left Choko very paranoid, and while she's shaken it off in recent years, she is still slow to trust, and quick to assume the worst.
  • Attempted Grace: Choko really attempts to put on an air of refinement and grace. This fails often, and tends to be more effective in phone conversations or other, virtual environments. Some find the effort charming, though.

History:

  • Early Life: Street Kid: Choko spent her early life as Chikao, born to a Tyger Claw father and a braindance addicted mother. Neither parent did much in the way of raising him, so instead, Chikao ended up falling in with a netrunner gang. He took to it pretty well, ended up going solo after getting better than the gang was and wanting to strike out on his own. Plus, he had a goal, one that the gang wasn't interested in...
  • Corporate Running: As part of his goals, Chikao hit a large number of corporate subnets. This, combined with some very scary rumors he picked up in the abandoned street corners he called home, led to him constantly looking over his shoulder for corporate agents or netrunners tracking him down. He got lucky, got skilled, and ended up never having to worry about it, aside from the one or two jobs that went sideways. This allowed him to pursue his true goals.
  • Becoming Choko: Chikao put aside a large amount of eddies, a little bit after each run, whatever he didn't need to use. Eventually, he was able to pay for extensive cosmetic surgery and cyberware to transform him into the body he dreamed of. He took the name Choko on the completion of her transformation, keeping only her original cyberdeck marked with her old name as a memento.
  • Now: Choko acts as a fixer, primarily for other netrunners and hackers looking for work. Plenty of corpo jobs require discretion...

I'm currently considering a ripperdoc, as it gives opportunities to interact with multiple characters and one is likely needed. Thoughts?  It's another late night of working for me, so hopefully I can get a sheet started tomorrow.

Considering my characters reliance on Cyberware I'd love to see a good Ripperdoc around.

Nimble isn’t a big-ass warrior. He’s more a sneaky-stabby-in-the-back type. In a fair fight, Vane would absolutely destroy Nimble.

Does have me thinking on character interactions.

-On a professional level, Vane and Nimble are considered rivals. Vane is usually considered the better of the two but Nimble actually prefers it that way. Nimble tries to avoid attention when he can avoid it, but as Vane’s methods are known to be pretty loud he does get some work his way just from the contrast, as those that know of Nimble know he’s much quieter an operator and some people want that.
-Nimble and N0liss have a professional arrangement. Nimble does know the basics of netrunning and on a theory level but his coding skills are *at best* passibly competent. You give him some malware and he’s know how to handle it to keep it pointed away from him and that’s about all. So they have an exchange of favors arrangement going where N0liss does the actual coding while Nimble handles anything that requires a more physical touch like stealing data from protected servers. Plus, while Nimble does try to keep his past covered N0liss is fully aware that they are both fluent in French.
-Choko prefers working with netrunning operators that can be discrete. Nimble isn’t a hacker by any real stretch, but he can be discrete too the point of being outright invisible if the situation calls for it. There’s some work opportunities there. Only downside is that Rogue clearly has something on Nimble.
-[Kuro’s Ripperdoc] is fully aware of one of Nimble’s deeper secrets, the identity of Nimble’s previous corporate employer. Couldn’t be helped, a lot of Nimble’s chrome is jail broken corporate cyberware and he’s trying to replace it. As a result Nimble makes it a point to keep them happy, to keep them quiet. It’s not blackmail per se…

Are they actually rivals though or is it more like, everyone uses them as text book examples of 'loud vs quiet' Solo's and compares them all the time but when the two meet they shoot the shit & laugh about it? I see nothing about Nimble that Vane would disapprove of and I'm 100% confident there are jobs that need a bait & switch and the two skill types work well in tandom. Or even Vane kicking down a front door and getting the guards running to Nimble can slip in the back to grab the real target/install malware, etc etc

IN my brain N0Liss knows most mover and shakers and would have a special liking for those who understand corp thought processes and can explain them to her. Yeah, she worked with a Nomad Corp BUT they are not tried and true corpo...they have Nomad thoughts. She understands MetaCorp because of it.

SO--

  • Just Jack: Beyond the professional, she also likes learning about new stealth techniques and he is a pro. One day she'll be as good as he is!!
  • Choko: Professionally, they could very well complement one another, given the division of labor. N0Liss likes the idea of other people being able to teach her things...Trades are a Nomad way of life.

I do picture mostly the later. When those in the know debate Loud vs Quiet they get brought up, but those discussions are far more intense than their actual rivalry. There is some competition over getting gigs but unless the client is so desiring of the job being done quietly that they’re willing to pay extra for it Vane usually wins. [Which Nimble is secretly just fine with.] I can imagine Vane having issues with Nimble if he knew the kind of shit Nimble has done over the years but he doesn’t so moot point.

And yes, Tandom jobs I can totally imagine. The Ho-oh Club gig immediately comes to mind.

[For those are ho haven’t played the game, a side mission involves a night club owned by the local Yakuza branch called The Tyger Claws. Semi-Secretly the owner is a serial killer who likes making memory recordings of himself carving up prostitutes and selling the recordings. You are hired to take him out. Problem is the club has 3 floors, something to the tune of 20 Tyger Claw members on staff, cameras, and automated turrets on the top floor. Good Luck.]

Choko sounds like she’d blend right in with the game, tabletop and video. I can easily imagine her as something like the Japantown Fixer’s upstart rival.

[Which means Choko would probably die badly because that lady is scary, but it would be a fun and intense storyline.]

“So how many husband have you had Lady Wakako?”
“5, all dead. Tragic how my husbands get so accident-prone. Especially the ones who I catch in the arms of other women.”

Here's a first go at my Ripperdoc ...

Character: Karma
Player: Kuroneko

Lifepath: Ex-Corpo
Role: Ripperdoc
Specialties:

  • Medicine: Karma had all the best training that money can buy and their skills as a surgeon are exceptional.
  • Engineering: As an engineer, Karma’s ability to design new devices that link to and augment the human body are remarkable. Their skill in weaving and interfacing bioware and cyberware into the human body go above and beyond the standard level of skill of a street Ripperdoc, including the ability to hack implants. Their skills are remarkable.
  • Tattoo Artist: Using the shop as a front for their clinic, Karma has developed excellent skills as a tattoo artist, which all transfers into the ability to create dermal implants.

Personality:

  • Dedicated: Karma takes their work seriously and always does a good job. Their clinic is no chop shop. Their fees reflect that fact. But Karma has an excellent reputation, and it’s well known in Afterlife that if you want something done right, you go to their clinic.
  • Compassionate: Don’t have the eddies for an upgrade right now, or you’re in a world of serious hurt and need a lifesaving repair? Karma might extend you credit and start a tab, depending on your circumstances. Just how they survive on that system is anyone’s guess.
  • Discrete: Karma keeps no written records at their clinic. The only person that knows what you’ve got wired into your body is them. Karma also doesn’t speak of their own past. Pressing the matter will likely get you blackballed from their clinic with your tab immediately due and a Tyger Claw enforcer on your ass.

History:

  • Early years: Born to an Arasaka aligned family in Tokyo with underground crime connections, Karma was raised with power and wealth. Sent to the best schools, they showed an aptitude for engineering and medicine and were quickly identified for their potential contributions to the bio and cyberware divisions of the corporation.  Their education and training were subsequently tailored for their entry into this aspect of the corporate holdings, with a trajectory towards research and development as well as private practice for corporate personnel.
  • Corporate Departure: After participating in several illicit projects for the corporation, Karma abruptly departed from the company and emigrated to Night City, using their family ties with the old Yakuza clans in Japan to disappear, creating a new identity and leaving the old one behind.
  • Now: Karma now works in Japantown as a Ripperdoc, using their skills and knowledge to help those on the street get a boost. Their clients are wide and varied, and rumored to include both Tyger Claws and Danger Gal members.

Relationships/Connections:

  • TBD

Additional Details:

  • Clinic: Karma’s clinic is located in Japantown. It appears to be a tattoo parlor, and they work there as a tattoo artist.
  • Multilingual: Karma speaks Japanese and Chinese.
  • Non-binary: Karma identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns.

Weapons/Equipment:

  • State of the art surgical suite: Located in the basement of their building, Karma has an extremely well-equipped surgery in their building, protected by powerful security measures and maintained by a steady stream of clients.
  • Eclectic Studio: Karma’s tattoo shop is old school, traditional, and arty, attracting repeat clientele with high quality work and high standards. They offer a variety of styles of work, but specializes in traditional Japanese.
  • GENJIROH HJKE-11 Yukimura: Just in case.

Cyberware:

  • Frontal Cortex: Self Ice, Memory Boost
  • Hands: Smart Link
  • Skeletal System: Titanium bones
  • Immune System: Cataresist
  • Ocular: Kiroshi Optics MK.3

Looks solid, there's a lot of references to the Yakuza who don't appear to be much of a factor by 2077? The Tyger Claws seem to hold their role in Night City (and control Japantown). Might be worth swapping some references? Otherwise Karma seems fine to me.

You're right. I had a different wiki open for all of the Cyberpunk games while writing most of it and Wolfi sent me another just for 2077. I'll tweak those references  ;)

I hope this works?

Character: Ekaterina "Katheryn" Belova
Player: TheGrandAdmiral

Lifepath: Ex-NCPD
Role: Private Eye
Specialties:

  • Investigation
  • Good shot
  • Eyes for detail

Personality:

  • Observant - part of the job
  • Methodical - her former colleagues hated her for that, especially when they were ordered to do a half-assed job in order to cover up VIPs crimes
  • A bit paranoid - you have to be if you are an ex-cop in a city full of criminals

History:

  • Coming from a family that escaped the USSR, being fed up of working for SovOil. Having smuggled and sold some confidential shards to Petrochem her parents managed to settle in Night City. Growing up on the streets of Kabuki, Ekaterina was rather tomboyish, learned to fight and survive on the streets. Always coming to the defense of her friends and that sent her on the path of law enforcement.
  • She excelled at the job, quickly becoming a detective. Which also was her downfall as Katheryn (as she was now known) crashed and burned as she exposed the son of a prominent politician who indulged in narcotics and killing hookers (especially illegal immigrants). Katya, did not take the offered bribe to drop the charges, so the politician made sure her days as a detective were over.
  • Ekaterina was lucky not to get killed over this. Once again on the streets there were few options. Especially in Night City. So she decided to utilize her professional skills and started her own PI firm. Though her success was rather modest, so she had to resort to "selling" herself as a merc or thug for hire at the Afterlife.

Relationships/Connections:

  • TBD

Additional Details:

  • Her office is close to the Northside and doubles as her apartment
  • Drives a dingy old Thorton Colby CX410 Butte

Weapons/Equipment:

  • Her trusty old Darra Polytechnic DR-5 Nova revolver
  • Stashed Militech M251s Ajax

Cyberware:

  • RAM Upgrade
  • BioMonitor
  • Kiroshi Optics MK.3
  • Kereznikov

Primarch

General concept is fine, just want to make sure you've actually worked her into the plot? Seems like right now she's written as a PI who does her own thing. As the RP is based around 'Afterlife' and the Merc/Netrunner/Solo people that tend to frequent it, I just want to make sure you haven't written yourself outside of the set-up.

TheGrandAdmiral

Well, I can add that she is a frequent visitor there. Probably has informants, or just goes for the drinks? Also a good place for her to keep her ear to the ground?

Well to help you keep involved I might suggest setting it up so your character is hired by Fixers to join a crew/team when they need her skillset. Instead of running her own PI firm. Its really just a suggestion. If you're happy feel free to proceed as you are.

Andronica

All right, here's Kat for the most part! My second character is still a WIP while I finish up Katya.

Character: Katya "Valkyrie" Vasser - call her Val
Player: Andronica

Lifepath: Street kid
Role: Ex-Maelstrom merc
Specialties:

  • Katya is well versed in almost all firearms, with a particular fondness for auto rifles and SMGs.
  • Hand to hand combat has been vastly improved through her modifications as well. If there's a job that requires brute strength and bloodshed she's on it.
  • She can take a hit and just keep coming. It's not a pretty sight but it works.

Personality:

  • Tactful. Despite the Maelstrom's reputation for being one synaptic misfire away from a cyberpsycho, she is more level-headed than others give her credit for. Guns-blazing might be her style but she knows how to keep a low profile if needed.
  • Temper, temper. Outside of work she's got a mean streak. Sometimes it's easy (re: fun) to wind her up and watch her go. Katya tries not to let too much get under her chassis, though it's best not to poke the metal bear too much unless you want to come away with missing fingers.
  • Softie: Much as she likes to think she can hide it, Katya has a bleeding heart when it comes to street kids, roughed up joy toys and others who lived lives not so dissimilar from hers. Sometimes this throws a curve ball into her contracts.

History:

  • Growing Up Kat - Katya grew up an only child in Watson with a mother who did whatever she needed to get eddies. She had a decent life - pretty subjective in Night City - but she knew how to go unseen, which usually kept her out of serious trouble and with a roof over her head well into her adolescence. She started to love the adrenaline rush of thievery. After her mom died she escalated to B&E's, assault, and beyond. Kat began running with the dangerous Maelstrom crowd for her fix. Then she met him and everything was going to get better because he treated her right...right?
  • Stars in her Black Eyes - It turned out things were going to get much worse. He was obsessive. He got her wrapped around his finger into his gigs running drugs, stealing, and other offences that might be scrubbed away by a pretty face. When he pushed her to get on the street though, she pushed back, and he didn't like it. The fallout was volatile. It turned out he had friends from dark places. He kept her locked up for a few weeks switching between beatings and torture 'til he got it into his head that he would make her obedient. The resulting experiment was brutal considering his amateur knowledge of anatomy and cybernetics, so she didn't last long. After a while he couldn't stand the sight or smell and ditched his failed handiwork out of his car late at night in the Northside Industrial District. She tumbled messily into the underpass below where the momentum caused further severe internal and external damage, compounding her already mangled limbs and nearly unrecognizable face.
  • Aftermath, Kat v2.0 - A ripperdoc from another local gang was passing through and found her still somehow clinging to life, if twitching pieces still count as living. They took her in for 'repairs' as a little pet project. Now Katya is almost more mods and machine than flesh and bone, sporting a sleek matte black right leg from the hip down along with a matching right forearm. In exchange for remaking her, the good doc'  took her on to repay the life-debt in whatever capacity she's able. It was through them that Katya got into contracts at Afterlife to make eddies and release some of that pent up anger.

Relationships/Connections:

  • The Ex - He's still out there somewhere, but he's always been good at laying low 'cause he's had years of practice as a violent, opportunistic coward. Between jobs Kat puts out her own feelers for people who might know him so she can hunt him down to take her revenge. She considers dropping it and unburdening herself though the phantom limb pain usually responds with a 'fuck him'.
  • Ripperdoc - She's indebted to the ripperdoc who pulled her out of the muck, literally. Whatever they need, job or errand, she's obliged to do something about it.
  • More connections to come IC...

Additional Details:

  • Kat has a thin braided leather bracelet with a small moon charm on her right wrist. It was her mom's, so she wears it out of sentimentality.
  • While she needs to go to the ripper doc for maintenance, Katya knows enough to tinker with a few aspects of her tech. She likes to sit back and treat the mini tune ups as much needed quiet time.
  • Vibing to Mohawk by Kings & Creatures

Weapons/Equipment:

  • Fenrir SMG modded for a little extra burn 'n burst
  • A reliable old Nowaki AR she picked up after clearing a Tyger den
  • Titanium techgogs with tactical software

Cyberware:

  • Circulatory System: Syn-lungs
  • Operating System: Biodyne Berserk
  • Frontal Cortex: Visual Cortex Support (she loves head-shots, and also there's that missing eye situation)
  • Skeleton Cyberware: Titanium bones, Bionic Joints in her dominant right arm

Character: Evangeline
Player: Andronica

Lifepath: ??
Role: High end Joytoy
Specialties:

  • Charm, weaponized. Evangeline can get onto people's good side by being disarming. She can flip from an innocent plaything to the mistress of someone's dreams in seconds. It doesn't surprise her that even in this chrome age, appealing to the most basic appetites will get you far with information, and she's not shy about twisting that to her advantage. Contacts. Dirty little secrets. She'll know it all and you wouldn't suspect a thing.
  • Connections. Eva's got a silver tongue. Thanks to a carefully cultivated list of clientele who usually run in the upper echelons of society, there are a lot of ways for her to get things (and people) she wants. Her notable reputation provides carte blanch among certain Night City circles which comes in handy for her and those she's willing to extend her generosity to.
  • Athletic. She's flexible and nimble in all the right ways.

Personality:

  • Sweet. Eva really cares, a lot. Nowadays she's a bit more jaded and cautious so how she presents that side to those she interacts with depends on the situation, though if you're her client you'd know she goes beyond surface flattery to reveal a more sincere person beneath the lavish dolled up layers. People she counts as friends are recipients of her genuine concern and love, too.
  • Perspicacious. It ought to go without saying that she's a keen judge of character. Her innate sense of who's good and worth the time, or not, has helped Evangeline blossom at her job.
  • Extroverted. She's as bubbly as they come and loves to make friends - it's a perk for her job, too. Evangeline can make herself at home in any situation and enjoys being in the spot light, or at least an active part of whatever social circle is churning out a party. Being around people is a must-have so if she's out of her element for too long that brightness fades and her fast paced life catches up to her quick.

History:

  • The Enigma - Her back story isn't something she lays out on the table. Getting to know who Evangeline was - that's definitely not her name - isn't easy, and that's the way she likes to keep it. She might be the daughter of some rich Corpo power couple who longed to lash out... or just gutter trash pretty enough to make her way off the streets. It's a mystery. What people think is that she worked as a high-end Joytoy until a favourite 'patron' bought her out. The details of the fallout are vague but there's speculation she seduced him into handing over his eddies, even his apartment wasn't safe, and when she lost interest after getting what she wanted Eva turned to freelance work.
  • These Days - Evangeline isn't exactly a trained killer running around unloading lead into gangsters for eddies, but she can hold her own with her pistol long enough for someone else to help. She made a nice little spot for herself in Afterlife providing the right people with back doors into certain places, helping to acquire tech or weapons, etc. Of course, if she's needed as distracting arm candy or backup she won't shirk the chance to come along for a ride...

Relationships/Connections:

  • TBD

Additional Details:

  • Eva has a nice apartment downtown in the City Centre. She drops by now and again to recharge or take clients. Otherwise, she does most of her work out of Afterlife and has sufficient protection there.

Weapons/Equipment:

  • A small smart pistol: Kang Tao A-22B

Cyberware:

  • Besides the implant that allows her to jack into her Cloud clientele's fantasies, Eva has no (known) modifications to her person except the obvious electric violet eyes indicative of high-end Kiroshi Optics.

If this is still open I am down for it. Love the feel and setting of the cyberpunk world. Even got a lawman concept from going through the new cyberpunk red books in prep for a potential tabletop game

There's room for more, but give the game a whirl and swing back when you're ready!

Nadore

Character: Zahra
Player: Nadore

Lifepath: Foreigner
Role: Ex Max-tac, Ex solo, Currently Retired
Specialties:

  • Acrobatic Close Quarter Combat: Zahra is an expert in bladed combat, especially broadswords. Her movements are swift and acrobatic-like, which makes sense since she used to be a dancer. However, she also uses close-range pistols as well.
  • Dancing: She was a dancer in the Middle East before enlisting in the military, so her dancing skills are pretty great! When her husband is on business trips and she's bored, she'll usually go and be a stripper at Empathy or Dicky Twister. It looks like pure flesh and blood is a trend that is returning to Night City.
  • Cyberpsychosis: Recruited by Max Tac to specifically Hunt and Kill cyberpsychos, she's extremely good at her job in knowing how to find and treat Cyberpsychosis. She's also doing research on Cyberpsychosis as of this moment.

Personality:

  • Adrenaline Junkie: Zahra values high octane, blood pumping situations above all else. Well, that is until she retired from all of that at least. However, nowadays she still takes jobs from fixers, but only on request, and only if it gets her blood pumping.
  • Tease: Zahra is a tease, why? Because it excites her and gets her blood pumping. She enjoys walking around Pacifica in the dead of night, wearing the most....not appropriate outfits for the thrill of possibly being attacked.
  • Minimal Cyberware: The reason? She hated when Fixers would just randomly call her at every corner or when she walked into a new district. Furthermore, the more Cyberware one has, the more likely they succumb to cyberpsychosis. She is not a stranger to losing people to cyberpsychosis. So she has the minimal amount of Cyberware possible.

History:

  • Born in the Middle East, Zahra was trained in the military before being scouted and transferred by Night City's Max Tac for her excellence in dealing with Cyberpsychos in the Middle East. As such, Zahra speaks with a rather thick and charming Persian accent. Her accent and speech are 100% understandable.
  • She was in the military from the ages of 16 to 21.
  • She was in Max Tac for about 3 years before quitting and becoming a solo. She quit because she wasn't keen on flatlining every single cyberpsycho they ran across.
  • As a solo, she earned the nickname "The Desert Rose," for being from the Desert and constantly wearing Rose-colored lipstick. Her expertise in combat made her an absolute fortune and was/is one of the most sought-after mercs in Night City. She was a Solo for roughly a decade before "retiring" at the age of 34, which is where she is now. She frequently worked with a team of Ex Max Tac and Ex Trauma Team members during her time as a solo. However, whereas they were decked out in Cyberware, all she had were her Kiroshi's, Maneuvering Systems and the Militech "Falcon" Sandevistan Mk.6, which meant she was still largely flesh and bone.
  • She met a corpo in one of her missions and has since married him, although with no plans to start a family any time soon.
  • On occasion, when she's bored and her husband is out of town, which is a lot, she would dance as a stripper in nightclubs. Gotta get the adrenaline pumping somehow.
  • Although retired, she'll still take jobs from fixers if they give her adrenaline-pumping fun.

Relationships/Connections:

  • Afterlife: A legendary solo nicknamed "The Desert Rose." Legendary because she was one of the few solos that refused to use augmentations, or at least, the most minimal possible. Most fixers within the city know her and her clout, which means that it's easy for her to get jobs for herself or for others.
  • Corpo Husband: Her husband is a corpo. A high-ranking Militech Corpo at that, which means that Zahra has access to an obscene amount of wealth. She drives the hippest cars, wears the nicest and most expensive clothes one can buy. Her favorite vehicles to drive are "her" Rayfield Caliburn as well as her Nazare. Also, she has a ton of Corpo connections!
  • Max Tac: As an Ex Max Tac officer, she has some clout within the force, able to get information from older allies and the such.

Weapons/Equipment:

  • Custom Arasaka Thermal Broadsword: Her corpo and Max Tac connections allowed her to get a custom-made broadsword that is heavily inspired by the coveted Thermal Katana. This weapon is pretty much a prototype.
  • Militech M-10AF: Custom Made Militech M-10AF, a gift from her then Corpo boyfriend turned husband. She names it Thorn.
  • Militech M-76e Omaha:Custom Made Militech M-76e Omaha, a gift from her then Corpo boyfriend turned husband. She names it Blaze.

Cyberware:

  • Kiroshi Optics MK.3: Hidden under her Eyepatch, is her Kiroshi Optics MK.3 ocular system.
  • Maneuvering System: The best way to compliment her acrobatic abilities is with a nervous system update that allows her to perform acrobatic actions mid-air!
  • Militech "Falcon" Sandevistan Mk.6: The newest prototype to the "Falcon" line of Sandevistan's from Militech.

Additional Details:

  • She wears an Eyepatch on the right side of her face. An Injury from her Max Tac days.
  • She has henna tattoo sleeves. They don't mean anything to her, she just thinks they look cool.
  • Despite her very male-oriented/dominated lifestyle, she is very much still feminine. She often wears a light layer of Dark Rose-colored lipstick that goes with the beauty mark on her upper left lip. She also wears nail polish, generally black nail polish for her long fingernails and toenails (not long).

Sethren

I poked into the discord but it is quiet right now BC holiday season and late at night BC I can't sleep ~

Thinking about playing a joytoy with amnesia (and who is 100% unaugmented) which if I remember, is rare/uncommon. I know there is Neo-Luddites but my char is not one of them)

At least right now they aren't/can't remember if they ever were.

Feel like they're indebted to someone for not only finding them unconscious with no memories but from keeping them from being a pet project by a ripperdoc or something/someone worse.

Feels like a 100% un-enhanced human would be really fun to play with and take advantage of by nasty people because they're a blank canvas.

Leaves it pretty open for what can happen to the character.

Thinking female or ftm transgender.

Any thoughts, interests plotting/playing with such a concept?
I am accepting quilt commissions right now to make ends meet.

Andronica

If YC is a Joytoy then Eva might know them! I think Eva has always been a social butterfly even among her peers and might have broad knowledge of who works where, depending on the district YC used to or still haunts. So we've got at least one connection there. :)

Were you thinking of having YC discovered as their opener to the story or as part of their history with an existing connection?
