Thanks.

I can explain anything, though I'll probably need a bit more elucidation on what needs to be explained.

Pansexual means that she could potentially be attracted to anybody, its sort of like bisexual, though it implies even more possibilites.
I am filled with recollections of lives I have not lived.

Ah, I see I see and correct me if I'm wrong but these guys are artificial humans in a sense yes?  They approach any problem by analyzing it to death or at least looking at it in a logical way at any rate.  Do they feel emotions, desire, any of that at all?  Also, what's with the contract thing?  Explain that a bit more if you would my friend.

When I was doing the calculations for male and female undisclosedtoyou I was including you in the female already. Sorry if it was making you reconsider I wasn't trying to and I want you to join and have fun with us as well.

Don't apologize, technically you didn't make me reconsider anything, since I was only going to hold off joining until more men joined.

Yup, I have the same classification for my charrie, since stating either straight, gay, bi doesn't really encompass my characters sexuality.

They're artificial, though in general they're no longer based on humans. They have bio-machine components, sort of synthetic materials that act like normal organic ones, though they're created, instead of grown.

They approach problems by analyzing it beyond the point where it needs to be, though that only applies to problems that can be solved scientifically. When analyzing new technology, or new materials, they break everything down into its constituent parts and go about basically simulating everything that could possibly be done with it. Of course, it mostly fails to produce anything, but it means they never miss an opportunity to advance.

The social contract thing is a concept in society where you agree to abide by the rules implictly. The Var state their social contract explicitly, sort of like laws, but with the ability to opt out of the Var society, though that basically means leaving Var space, and being disconnected from their society.

So, can someone explain to me a quick overview of what's happened on the station? I still haven't docked yet.

Vergil1989

We held off the Blood Pack, a band of Krogan criminals and warlords that run part of Omega and other systems with an iron fist.  They hired some Asari Commandos to help take out Nyarly's group to steal their tech and other valuables, but Iron, Elfguy, and my own PCs plus whatever people they brought with them took care of the bastards.  An hour has passed with recovery efforts, taking wounded and what have you to be healed unless it was to bury them of course.

All done for now.  I'll probably be coming back and working on it though, si it can be called a tentatively finished character profile.

Yateph-Mmoanekr
(Ye-te-f, Mo-n-e-ker)

Gender: Asexual
Age: 345 or 3 to her own people.
Preferences: Pansexual
Race: The Swarm, sometimes called the scourge, or even parasites.
Race Description: : A fully sentient worm like organism that burrows and than takes over other organic sentient beings; mostly but not restricted to humanoids.
Home Planet: The Hollow Reed, also known to others as the Red Desert planet located in the Corvus system
Appearance: The Swarms basic appearance, when outside a host, is worm like in appearance, their mouths are wide and made up of millions of tiny teeth that they use to latch on and burrow into a biological sentient being.  Yateph's current shell is tall and plump, her hair is brown with honey blond highlights.  Her eyes are more golden than brown, and her skin is only a few shades lighter than her eyes, which can be described as blank.  Her host's face itself is usually blank also, but Yateph can manipulate emotions to show.  There's a long jagged scar below her beasts, the spot where she initially burrowed into her host.  Her movements are sparse, and she doesn't move her shell more than what's necessary; but she is never jerky unless forced into a violent situation.
Position: Ambassador
Tech Level: As parasites, they take on technology that their host's carry with them.  But they do have their own.

  • Pulsing Orb: An orb the size of a small marble is usually attached to a piece of jewelry.  In Yateph's case it's embedded into a small ring that she wears on her middle finger.  It's swirling blue and white depth is more than ornamental though, it act's as a transmitter device, and will record and project images across space to others of the Swarm.  It's uses are for communications, reporting, and recording.
  • Hi-Res Pistols: The only side arms they carry are small pistols that are charged from tiny generators located in the gun itself.  The generator itself shares characteristics with the Pulsing Orb with the way it looks, and that the light shot out matches the color of the orb.  But what it shoots out is more than just colored light.  It's a high resonance that can't be heard, but it impacts organic matter and causes the area hit to spasm and burn.  If a vital area is hit than it's fatal.
  • The Pulse: The Swarm ships are uniform in appearance, one looking almost exactly like the other.  And their defense/offense is their particular pride.  The ship is powered with something akin to the Pulsing Orb, but on a massive scale.  And it projects a blanket of sorts, covering the whole ship.  It's not a physical blanket, but it has common characteristics with the Pulsers, in that it's made of a high resonance that can block out most physical attacks.  The resonance is than switched swiftly when going into offense, and can pulse out and lash out at any nearby ships or organic matter.  Since the Swarm has treaties with most beings, they are very unlikely to go into an offense stance.
  • The Leach: The Swarm feel pain, but on a different plane of intensity, so it's usually avoided at great cost's.  They have ample discipline that they can mask pain, but it takes a lot of energy.  So when they do get hurt the Swarm have created small leech like machines that are attached over the area where the Swarm itself is located.  And they go into a sort of hibernation for up to half an hour.  While they are shut down the leech goes to work and sends out small pulses that run throughout the host and heals any abnormalities.  When there's no opportunity to sleep and get healed, they can attach the leeches on when awake.  But it's a painful process that takes much longer to work.
  • Ship Tech: The tech level for the Swarm ships are very high.
  • Planet Tech:  Hallow Reeds level of technological advancement has increased greatly over the centuries, so it can be described as having a high tech level also.
Racial Traits:

  • They infect a host and overtake it completely.
  • They do not die of old age, so they can technically live on forever, except for the fact that they must change host's when it's shell reaches the end of it's life cycle or they will die; they can only survive outside, or in a dead host for three minutes before dying.
  • The reverse is true also, once the Swarm leaves it's host, the shell dies.
  • Their shell's can technically reproduce, but the off spring find themselves with 'odd' mental quirks, and deformities; call it a little side effect of the Swarms presence.
  • There's a recorded 9,000 Swarm still in existence.
Evolutionary path: Originally the Red Desert planet had been one lush with vegetation and life, life that had a very simple, yet strict caste system in which there where only a handful of thinkers, and millions of workers.  Over millions of years the planet's temperatures started to rise, and so did the decline of births.  So the few remaining geneticist's and scientist's started altering their peoples biology.  This was in fact a long and tedious endeavor, and didn't really show any results.  It wasn't until thousands of years later that the changes started to show itself.  At first it was small things, like losing a few, once thought, vital organs.  And than it was the fur that went, and than soon the body itself started to be altered until what was left was an unrecognizably deformed and elongated form.

When the desert finally overtook the planet, the inhabitants started burrowing underground to escape the intense heat from their sun.  They burrowed far down into their planet, creating intricate and oddly spectacular living conditions.  After living underground for thousands of years, they found that they could no longer survive on the surface of their planet, their skin becoming so sensitive that the suns rays became lethal to them in long enough doses.  Soon enough no more activity was recorded, and it was assumed that the beings of the planet had fallen into a long hibernation.  In reality the Swarm had evolved to such a point that there was one queen on a continual cycle of reproduction.  So instead of Hibernation they focused solely on the gathering of food, and reproduction.  Soon each baby was born in a tight cocoon that would eventually die after six months of living.  It got to the point where the queen herself died off, and what was left where a few million cocoons. They stayed that way for three months until the first humanoid explorers from other planets touched down on their planets surface.  And while exploration took them down into the winding tunnels of the Swarms planet, they emerged infected.  With the awakening of the Swarm, came the discovery that over millions of years of evolution, with the help of those long ago geneticist's, they could burrow themselves into other living sentient beings.  From there, the Swarm took over host's, and seemed to lead symbiotic relationships with them.  It became a startling discover then, that one day they evolved into creatures that would completely overtake their host's.
Customs:

  • Polite, and well spoken, the Swarm are a peaceful people, as oddly as that sounds since their parasitic beings.  Privately they're so peaceful because they hate to touch others unless when mating; so physical violence is not desired among them.
  • They can speak, and hold conversations through small body language.  A touch of a hand on a sleeve, a tilt of the head, the way one of them stands; all these are registered in the Swarms consciousness and translated into words.  This form of communication is exclusive to their race, and outsiders are never taught, under any circumstances.
Traditions:The Swarm hold a few customs, but these are strongly held, and never broken unless there's an extreme case in which it's necessary.

  • The birthing: Because the Swarm themselves cannot technically reproduce, the birthing is not technically a ceremony of birth.  But rather the ceremony itself is when a member of the Swarm leaves one host and infects another.  The first two hundred years after their Awakening, they infected a host no matter if it was willing or not.  But after they found their kin being killed off by those fearful of infection, they consented to a treaty where they could only infect those who willingly gave their bodies.  All of which requires strict keeping of records and contracts as proof.  This has formed into a full ceremony which is kept private, the details of which, are not shared with outsiders.  It is understood that the Swarm has the right to life, so under duress they can infect the unwilling, but all such occurrences must be reported, these situations are very rare.
  • The After: Any death in the Swarm is seen as terrible and traumatizing.  When it does happen there are steps of grieving that they must go through.
History: Directly after their first infection, they focused on transporting as many of their kin off planet as possible.  They needed to allow them to infect or they would die.  They weren't able to get all off planet, and some never emerged from their cocoons, so the loss was massive, and they where left with little more than half their population.  It wasn't until a hundred years after that first Awakening that they finally returned home, where  some focused mainly on rebuilding and reconstructing their massive underground system of tunnels and caverns, and some where dedicated to bringing in a constant supply of shells for them to take over when their current shells died.

One of the first to be awakened, Yateph is also one of the oldest members of the Swarm.  She has no memory of living in her cocoon, but only of crawling across the dark floors of the tunnels and burrowing into her first host, a rather tall man with sandy blond hair and searing blue eyes.  Over the centuries she's gone through many host's, and was one of the many who agreed with the switch to willing host's, since it made it more convenient, and less dangerous, than hunting down her own.  Those willing, proved to be very willing, and Yateph never really understood that.  The struggle to survive is so ingrained in the Swarms life, that when viewing those who couldn't wait to give up their own, she couldn't help but feel mystified and a bit contemptuous towards them.

So focused on surviving, Yateph didn't have the time to contemplate their own deficiencies.  And only when things started to slow down did she have time to mourn the fact that there would never be more of her kin to be birthed, there could only be death, and she came to the realization that one day they would all be killed off.  Not one to seep herself into such maudlin thoughts, she instead focused more on surviving, and guaranteeing that her kind stayed alive.  So she is more likely to agree to anything that would ensure her people where targeted less.

That's a good ship my friend.  Anyway, I'm going to have everyone gather in Afterlife for some food and drinks and to collect our thoughts and everyone else that has yet to arrive on Omega.  Head that way and I'll put up a post probably before too long to send a message out to new arrivals to head to Afterlife.
