Try to imagine Star Wars without its soundtrack.

Go on.  I dare you.

Try to imagine Indiana Jones running, jumping, digging up artifacts, and making time with the babes -- in silence.  Try to imagine that freaky crab Sebastian in The Little Mermaid keeping his mouth shut.  Try to imagine Youngblood Priest hanging out without any music in the background.  Try to imagine Jaws stalking her prey unaccompanied by the angriest tuba in history.  Try to imagine Vincent Vega and Mia Wallace dancing in Jack Rabbit Slim's to nothing at all.

Now imagine that you're me trying to imagine your soundtrack.

When I read something that you've written, I hear nothing.  It's silent.  But you have a soundtrack of your own -- I know that you have a soundtrack of your own.  I can't hear it yet, granted, but I know that it exists.

Ladies and gentlemen, maidens and monsters, I'd love to learn about your soundtrack.

Therefore, I'm asking you to list the tunes that symbolize you and your life.  If you're a fan of vinyl, choose up to 52 minutes of songs for your LP and a single comprised of an A-side and a B-side.  If you prefer CDs, choose up to 80 minutes of songs.  (If you prefer 8-track tapes, please seek help.)  And if you're willing to detail why these specific tunes represent you, so much the better.

Help me hear you! :)

I really don't think I need that many minutes. It'd be something like...

Ladies and gentlemen... Welcome to my moon base.

Don't worry, it's just for dancing with cute guys with long hair.

I'm a bit of a flirt and find myself easily tempted by things I can't have. Sometimes I forget myself and stick along for the ride, but only if I'm not in a predatory mood.

Sometimes I am on top, and sometimes I would rather have someone to worship. Really, though, it doesn't matter who runs the show as long as I remember that I love to watch it and I wouldn't change a damned thing about my life.

I do think quite a bit about what I want to do when I grow up but really I don't mind being one of the children for a while.

I think soundtracks give a meaning to the soul of the film. The soul of my film would include something like this.

The sweet loving outer shell of a goddess that opens her arms to welcome you in. And as each person passes through they leave their own mark. The romance, the affection, the softness, and those devious stares. In the end you are left wondering, wishing, watching, waiting, and most of all, wanting for something to happen. In reality, it never ends. Its forever growing, winning you over, and leaving a sweet taste in your mouth. The feeling of warm breath on your skin, and a melody in your head that you cannot forgot. When you see it, you will always remember that one final melody, the one that is unwritten or the one I sing in your ear, whether its a good sound or not, you'd never forget it (should be lucky enough to have heard it from my lips).

1. Curly Sue - Takida  3:47
2. I Touch Myself - Divinyls  3:41
3. Sex and Candy - Marcy Playground 3:06
4. Lips of an Angel - Hinder  4:17
5. I Want You to Want Me - Cheap Trick  3:43
6. Immortal - Evanescence  4:32
7. Head Over Feet - Alanis Morisette  4:33
8. Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield  3:47
9. Do I - Sung by Me 4:00 (no video available, only heard upon request or by special offer)

Total Time: 33:66

((I guess I just had to be different.. neither evil nor half.. somewhere in between? Not long enough for a vinyl or a cd..hrmm...))

Maeven

It's a long time coming, but I've not forgotten... without further adieu... Maeven's soundtrack:

More often than not I'm reminded that you can't always get what you want but you get what you need.  When I don't get it, well then I'm left, at times, untanglin' my mind.  After that, you've just got to adopt a mellow mood.

I've been known to get whiskey bent and hell bound but I hope I make it up by making you comfortably numb.  If not, there's always control if you've figured me out...

At the end, I hope, I can truly say or someone can say about me... that regrets are few and I did it my way.
What a wicked game to play, to make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to let me dream of you.
What a wicked thing to say, you never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do, to make me dream of you.

The Cardinal Rule

OwenNo6

My soundtrack could take days, even years, but I’ll give it a shot.

When you see the world from Behind Blue Eyes, you go through periods of vivid color, as Bold as Love, before things turn a Whiter Shade of Pale.  You sometimes experience Piece of Mind, if only In Dreams, only to come back to reality and find Nobody Home.

You go through that phase while you’re still Learning to Fly and your world revolves around Sex and Fast Cars.  You get the Funk out of bed every morning like you’re Cock of the Walk until you wake up one morning at the age of twenty-one and decide to go live the life of a Trooper.  You’re still Young enough to plan your nights around All Tomorrow’s Parties, even though every Sunday Morning is a bitch when you’re hung over.

After you’ve partied all those years away, you begin to seek Shelter against the elements that you fear will be your Undoing.  You hope someone will Sympathize with you and spend a few years in your company; in time, you begin to see this person Everywhere you go.

And at the end of it all, when your Bones are weak and weary, just remind yourself one last time that All You Need is Love.

My On and Off list

My other on/off list

Let the Priests of the Raven of dawn, no longer in deadly black, with hoarse note curse the sons of joy. Nor his accepted brethren, whom tyrant, he calls free: lay the bound or build the roof. Nor pale religious letchery call that virginity, that wishes but acts not!

For every thing that lives is Holy.

[noembed]First off, this topic is WONDERFUL, thank you so much for it, Spel.

OK, so I've got a little special CD, as it plays over an hour :) Also, I do love music and it varies in genre and I can say, that only songs, that I rarely fast forward, made it. I realized that even though I do have a vast collection of foreign music, I still listen to a lot of Czech music. I made a list of favourite songs, then I trimmed the Czech ones and this is what has left. :D

1. Kansas - Carry On My Wayward, Son - aka Supernatural fans' anthem

2. Elvis Presley - (Marie's the Name) His Latest Flame - probably only for the sound, but what A sound

3. Bruce Springsteen - Dancing in the Dark - you see, I have a sister, who's twelve years older than I. I sort of grew up on her hits and her heroes and Bruce was one of them.

4. Gloria Estefan - Hoy - for the Spanish ancestors I have, I guess. Lovin' almost everything of Gloria, but the line "Tengo una frase colgada entre mi boca y mi almohada, que me desnuda ante ti" in this song just gets me.

5. Shakira - Ojos Así - probably for the text and lines like "Le pido al cielo solo un deseo que en tus ojos yo pueda vivir" "The only thing I ask of heavens is that I could live in your eyes" in it, it's just so ingenious.

6. Apocalyptica feat. Ville Valo and Lauri Ylönen - Bittersweet - I'm a voice pervert and these two should be enough of an excuse. :D

7. Andrea Bocelli ft. Lara Fabian (or Hélène Ségara? this confuses the hell out of me) - Vivo Per Lei

8. Lara Fabian - Adagio in Italian - Adagio is a baroque composition of an Italian composer, Tomasso Albinoni, that has a certain, almost mythical, touch to it. It has various interpretations nowadays and I personally dig also the one of Cyprian soprano singer, Marilena Solomou.

9. Lara Fabian - Broken Vow - I doubt it is possible to paint, picture, describe or name feelings this song fills me with. Lara is my favourite singer of all time. She can put so much emotions to her texts and songs it sends chills down my spine.

10. The Complete Recordings, LotR soundrack - The Grace of Undómiel - I'm a "Learning-Elvish" level of LotR freak, so... don't even get me started. Because I may not be able to stop. ;D

11. Amanda Marshall - I Believe in You

12. Reamon - Tonight

13. Vanessa Williams - Save the Best for Last

14. Vaya Con Dios - What's A Woman

I don't really have anything special to say about the last four, but there they are. :) Yes, I do like classic music, I also like certain samples of rock, punk etc...[/noembed]

Well, at 71 minutes, 38 seconds, I think I put together a pretty good soundtrack, and rediscovered a few old gems in my musical library.

EDIT: I forgot arguably the best song, Part V of Fall of Troy's Ghostship Demo's.

Totally posting in this once I add up the times/get links to my songs. :) I love this idea!

I don't so much have a soundtrack that goes with my posts, as I do a soundtrack that goes with my gaming habit.  If I were to come up with a life soundtrack, it'd mostly be music to bust heads to.  Looking at it, it's a pretty varied selection; some I just have an affinity to the sound, with others I connect to the lyrics, some to both.

Teenagers - My Chemical Romance
Funky Dealer - Hideki Naganuma
Harder Better Faster Stronger - Daft Punk
Hitotoshite Jiku ga Bureteiru (I'm Human, Therefore I'm Twisted) - Kenji Ohtsuki
Zessei Bijin (Unparalleled Beauty) - Ai Nonaka
Ultra - KMFDM
Red Fraction - Mell
BB Corps - Harry Gregson Williams (there are versions without the SFX, but this scene is too cool to pass up)
Around The World - Satoru Kosaki
Yet Oh See Mind - Capcom Sound Team
Salvas Nos - Kaida Yuriko
Furious Angels - Rob Dougan
Inner Universe - Origa
Epic - Faith No More
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
No One Sleep In Tokyo - Edo Boys
I'm An Asshole - Denis Leary
El Tango De Roxanne - Moulin Rouge
Devils Never Cry - Shootie HG

I decided to write a little story to go along with all this. Since I found it amusing. The soundtrack of life should tell a story with lyrics. The narration is just there to string you along.

Still, here's the TL;DR/song list for the impatient or otherwise uninterested!

T.I. - Act III (The Confrontation) (1:50)
Pink Floyd - Have a Cigar (5:35)
Big Wreck - Overemphasizing (8:00)
NoFX - Fun Things to Fuck (1:16)
Ice Cube - Gangsta Rap Made Me Do It (5:24)
Big Wreck - Mistake (5:09)
Chamillionaire - Middle Finger Up (3:53)
Flogging Molly - What's Left of the Flag (4:09)
T.I. - What Up, What's Haapnin' (5:04)
T.I. - Tell 'Em I Said That (4:58)
Wax - Music and Liquor (5:55)
Esthero - Superheroes (3:58)
Chamillionaire - Outro (3:11)
Total time: 58:36

[Editor's Note: Upon rereading this the author in me realizes that my tenses are all over the place. It's rather sloppy. But then, it's 8:30 in the morning... lets just say I was awake when the sun rose yesterday too.]

The soundtrack for me and my life...

Well, I'll have to give you a little story for that.

This story features two main characters; a Gentleman and a Bastard. Heh, they're more than just monikers to make myself seem all mysterious. Fact of the matter is, in real life, the battle between Gentleman and Bastard is fought on a daily basis. But the distinction between the two wasn't realized until much later.

As a boy, he got into many fights. So he learned to cool his temper, and as he grew, he learned to bottle it better. As a result, his patience evolved till he often felt like he understood mountains. However there was rarely a time to open the bottle. And so with its contents, its capacity also grew. Till it turned out that he was pretty chill all the time.

Amidst every crowd of people, he was always there. And through these people, he learned many things. In fact, he continues to do so till this day. However, seeking himself even then, he decided he was going to build himself up as a man that would mirror all of his heroes. As that great man, he would succeed at life. Of course, a great man, needs a great woman.

Needless to say, he was a little naive.

But he bounced back regardless. After all, that's what everyone else does, right? But then he started giving a listen to what else other people had to say. He listened, he observed, he experienced, and it was all of those things that helped him make up his own mind. If the world was going to turn its back on him, he would turn his back on the world.

Still... the system is all encompassing. The influences so subtle, so vast. If he was going to get through it, he would do it his own way. He created a name for himself, Defiance Black.

The man that nothing in life could wound, con, or catch.

Defiance Black looked the way the young man wanted to look and fucked the way the young man wanted to fuck. He was smart, capable, and free in all the ways the young man was not.

With this pseudo-Tyler Durden, he would survive.

Unfortunately, being a little less naive than before didn't stop him from making terrible mistakes.

When he sat down and looked at the world in its entirety, he thought of the dreams he had dared to hope for and slowly build up towards. He reflected on how the world saw fit to knock his building blocks over at any point along the process of success.

Every captain is a king aboard his own ship. So he decided he was going to set sail. If there was no port of call that would suit his fancy, he would explore life on his own until he found one that did. He would do things his own way... again.

However, there was no failing this time.

He would make sure of it by letting go of everything. He would miss the important people in his life, but it was the women he would miss the most. For, while knowing more than his fair share, he only kept to a very small few. But they too had to be let go.

To plot this new course; to see himself through; and to have his own ship so that he could claim the title of Captain and be a king where ever he went; he gave himself a reminder...

We must mark this moment in time.

It was this moment in time, that the Bastard became it's own half that would not go unrecognized. No matter where, with a very Jack Sparrow sway to his step, a smile on his face, the Bastard greeted one and all the same.

It wasn't all happiness and fun times. Not at all. There were still many things he had to deal with, many things he had to learn and many people he would find out weren't real at all. His own experiences combined with his own observations until his faith in people diminished to nothing. It came to a point where the only company he was ever happy with was himself.

And that's where he is right now.

Passing time between the superheroes. Between them, because it was only when he stopped trying to aspire to greatness that he actually found peace. It was only once he stopped believing. It was only once he let go.

The Gentleman is still around. He socializes on E all the time. He's only really eclipsed by the Bastard every now and then. Okay, maybe a little more than every now and then.

Fact of the matter is, it's the Bastard who runs much of the show these days.

And while he drifts through life between the cracks of all the things he used to believe in, he plots his master stroke.

Sho

The Early Years :), They were pretty much bright and cheeful.
Filled with youthful dreams; most certainly built on castles in the air.
My nickname?... Rainbow.

Jason Castro Somewhere Over The Rainbow American Idol Top 8

There was that first sweet tender love, where my great hopes and dreams were suspended.
But at the end of the day, love's illusions shattered, and the painful realization that there was
only so much self sacrifice I could make in order to hold love together.
Patching together the pieces of my broken heart, I moved on.

Jim Croce - Lovers Cross - BBC

Guess that it was bound to happen
Was just a matter of time
But now Ive come to my decision
And its a-one of the painful kind
cause now it seems that you wanted a martyr
Just a regular guy wouldnt do
But baby I cant hang upon no lovers cross for you
You really got to hand it to ya
cause girl you really tried
But for every time that we spent laughin
There were two times that I cried
And you were tryin to make me your martyr
And thats the one thing I just couldnt do
cause baby, I cant hang upon no lovers cross for you
cause tables are meant for turnin
And people are bound to change
And bridges are meant for burnin
When the people and memories they join arent the same

Still I hope that you can find
Another who can take what I could not
He'll have to be a super guy
Or maybe a super god
cause I never was much of a martyr before
And I aint bout to start nothin new
And baby, I cant hang upon no lovers cross for you
                     ~Jim Croce

Then there came the pain of a loved one snatched away; the death of my mate.
Though our few years were full of pain, the anguish of permanent separation
remained to slice deeply into my heart.

~°CloudxYuna - Tears of an Angel°~

Cover my eyes
Cover my ears
Tell me these words are a lie
It cant be true
That I'm losing you
The sun cannot fall from the sky
Can you hear heaven cry
Tears of an angel
Stop every clock
Stars are in shock
The river will flow to the sea
I wont let you fly
I wont say goodbye
I wont let you slip away from me
Can you hear heaven cry
Tears of an angel
So  hold on
Be strong
Everyday on we'll go
I'm here, dont you fear
Little one dont let go
Cover my eyes
Cover my ears
Tell me these words are a lie.
~RyanDan

I wasn't always the tender hearted woman I am today.
With death came great introspection and soul searching.
The years where I found myself.
Knowing, where I wanted to go, who I wanted to be.
The struggle to get there, casting off the refuse of my character.
The years when I learned to love unconditionally.

KD Lang - Hallelujah

Now I've heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do you?
It goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall, the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah...

Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
She tied you
To a kitchen chair
She broke your throne, and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah
Baby I have been here before
I know this room, I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew you.
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

There was a time you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show it to me, do you?
And remember when I moved in you
The holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

You say I took the name in vain
I don't even know the name
But if I did, well really, what's it to you?
There's a blaze of light
In every word
It doesn't matter which you heard
The holy or the broken Hallelujah

I did my best, it wasn't much
I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song
With nothing on my tongue but Hallelujah
                             ~Leonard Cohen

Finally a time of joy. I found my best friend.
*winks* our first dates were spent watching my entire StarGate dvd collection.
Married 5 years now.

Whenever I Call You Friend

Whenever I call you friend, I begin to think I understand
Anywhere we are, you and I have always been, forever and ever
I see myself within your eyes, and thats all I need to show me why
Everything I do always takes me home to you, ever and ever
now I know my life has given me more than memories, day by day, we can see
In every moment theres a reason to carry on

Sweet loves showin us a heavenly light, never seen such a beautiful sight
See love glowin on us every night, I know forever well be doin it right
Whenever I call you friend, I believe Ive come to understand
Everywhere we are, you and I were meant to be, forever and ever
I think about the times to come, knowin I will be the lucky one
And ever our love will last, I always want to call you friend.

Illness enters. I struggle each day, focused on not giving in to despair and depression.
As my world continues to spin, I find surcease here on E.
This is dedicated to my RP partners.
You make my days seem lighter, and transport me to the fantastic.

Wind beneath my wings

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
To never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, thats your way.
You always walked a step behind.

So I was the one with all the glory,
While you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

Did you ever know that you're my hero,
And everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
For you are the wind beneath my wings.
It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
But Ive got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

Did you ever know that youre my hero?
Youre everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
For you are the wind beneath my wings.

Did I ever tell you youre my hero?
Youre everything, everything I wish I could be.
Oh, and I, I could fly higher than an eagle,
For you are the wind beneath my wings,
cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

For my White Knight; my special friend who is always there.
You lift my spirits, and fulfill 'my' fantasies.
Thank you for renewing my dreams.

Final Fantasy Heroes (VII/X) - Holding out for a hero

Where have all the good men gone
And where are all the gods?
Where's the street-wise hercules
To fight the rising odds?
Isn't there a white knight upon a fiery steed?
Late at night toss and turn and dream of what I need
Somewhere after midnight
In my wildest fantasy
Somewhere just beyond my reach
There's someone reaching back for me
Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat
It's gonna take a superman to sweep me off my feet

Up where the mountains meet the heavens above
Out where the lightning splits the sea
I would swear that there's someone somewhere
Watching me ..Through the wind and the chill and the rain
And the storm and the flood
I can feel his approach
Like the fire in my blood
I need a hero!
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the end of the night
He's gotta be strong
And he's gotta be fast
And he's gotta be fresh from the fight
I need a hero
I'm holding out for a hero 'til the morning light
He's gotta be sure
And it's gotta be soon
And he's gotta be larger than life.

Then there are the times when I know I should probably not be indulging myself here.
The fantasies swirl me further into the vortex, but I can't seem to say Farewell.

Avantasia & Sharon den Adel - the metal opera(1) - farewell

[Gabriel]
Days had come, winters had gone,
and we gamboled like siblings in Paradise.
I was your knight, holding you tight
as a brother when I saw your crying eyes.
Time went by and we had to say goodbye.

Staring up to the clouds above
Children - so little and sad.
Hoping the saints could help one day
Lead us together again.
Holding the key to the alley of dreams
still in hands.

Time telling me to say farewell
but I knew that I would fight hell
and I knew: We will
go for another time we can see,
for another time we'll be free,
for no more farewell.
[Anna]
Stepbrother tell me where have you been
when they brought me to this godforsaken place.
Sign of the cross - they took me away
for healing with herbs by the way of grace.
Now I wait for the day to feed the flames.

[Gabriel]
I have been caught in a cage of despair.
My heart as a monk's cell so empty and bare.
But no holy water can make me
forget you again...

Time telling me to say farewell
but I knew that I would fight hell
and I knew: We will
go for another time we can see,
for another time we'll be free,
for no more farewell.
[Lugaid]
No farewell could be the last one.
If you long to meet again...
                              ~Avantasia

She led me to safety in a forest of green, and showed my stale eyes some sights never seen.
She spins magic and moonlight in her meadows and streams, and seeks deep inside me,
and touches my dreams. - Harry Chapin

My Soundtrack is all the songs that have gotten me through rough times, and then a few songs that are just kick ass in my book.

Fallout Boy - Golden

Shinedown - .45

Avenged Sevenfold - Critical Acclaim

Cream - Sunshine of Your Love

Evanescence - Whisper

Gun N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle

...well that covers it for the moment...of wait, one more...

Shinedown - What A Shame

And being that it;s only six songs, it definitly fits the time constrants

Cysma

You know what this reminded me of? In John Steinbeck's short novel The Pearl, the main character is mentioned to hear different "songs" in his head related to the situation, like a song about his family, and a song for the titular pearl, which gets reprised a few times as it goes from bringing hope to sowing discord over the course of the story. If The Pearl were ever adapted into a film, these songs could make up the soundtrack!
