On the heels of his brother’s death, his mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. It became apparent that they needed help with all the medical expenses. Roland didn’t want to keep doing the same thing he had always done. His family couldn’t afford to have him get into trouble. He also needed to get out of the city and away from the culture that he suddenly saw as toxic. He quit drugs and after a tip from a buddy and little persuasion he got a job at the ranch. His skills as a mechanic can be applied to all the necessary machinery around the farm and he’s not a bad handy man either.
