Introduction

Segmentum Pacificus, Sub-Sector Marchionn Primaris. Hive World Marchiros.

Slow and heavy steps fill the metal-clad hallways of the palace of Governor Maris Theneor. Guardsman lining the hallways straighten up and stand at attention, with a look of fear in their eyes. One they would not dare show to the men walking through the long hall.
At the end of the hallway, a young woman looked up startled as the massive door before her was swung open by none other than a man wearing black power armor. Multiple seals and other adornments lined his armor, his expression unwavering and unimpressed, which was not helped by the fact that almost half his face was lined with cybernetics. With the door opened, the space marine’s silver colored hand rested upon a holstered power axe, surging dimly with energy. The only different in color in his armor was that hand, and the arm and shoulder on the same side, sporting a silver coloring, with the feared and awe-inspiring logo of the Imperial Inquisition emblazoned on his shoulder. His other shoulder was black as the rest of his armor, but bore a white image of a hand on it.

Stepping aside, the space marine made room for a much smaller, but much more imposing figure. Black armor, with a red coat draped around it, and inquisitorial seals everywhere, the man walked forward, followed by yet another Deathwatch Space Marine.
“L-lord Inquisitor! I-… We didn’t expect you to arrive on such short notice!”
The man rose his hand as the two space marines walked up beside him. “Instead of trying to form excuses for that which is not even relevant, how about you tell the governor that we have arrived.”
The woman blinked, before giving a quick few nods as she pressed a button on the vox system spread throughout the palace. “G-Governor. Inquisitor Roghan has arrived, sir.” A momentary silence followed, during which the Inquisitor peered around the adorned entry hall. Finally, a response came through. “Well what are you waiting for, woman?! Let him through to my office!” The woman startled slightly, before gesturing over to two guards. “Please guide the Lord Inquisitor and the lords Astartes to the Governor’s office…” With a brisk nod, the two guardsmen led the way.

After a minute of walking, a large door opened up, opening up into a large office with large glass windows, adorned with the Imperial Aquila, looking out over the upper terraces of the Hive World. The Governor, an elder man with a beard running along his chin and your typical, formal Imperial regalia pushed himself briskly from his seat near the window, taking brisk steps  as he stood next to his desk, bowing his head. “L-lord Inquisitor! I am honored to be in your presence, and eternally grateful for you ti-…” “Cut the pleasantries, governor. My time is precious, and considering the apparent gravity of your message, I believe we cannot spare further moments.” The governor swallowed as he rose up, nodding deeply as he gestured over to his desk, which had a map of the current sector, Aedemis.

“As... er… As I included in my message… The situation concerns the sub-sector neighbouring our own. Marchionn Secundus. About two months ago… Orks began appearing in the sector. We’ve had skirmishes across multiple sub-sectors… But Marchionn Secundus seemed to be their main staging ground. However… Our forces there seem to be… hampered…” The Inquisitor rose his hand in order to silence the governor. “-Hampered-?”
The Governor blinked, swallowing once more, before nodding. “Somehow… Many of our vehicles that are part of the force defending Marchionn Secundus have been malfunctioning… Or they even have gone missing.” The other space marine, which bore a blue shoulder with a red fist painted on it glanced over to the map. “Ork looters?” The Governor shook his head. “We thought so too… But in some of the occasions… We’re not seeing a single sign of Orks… Plus, it’s not only machinery. We’ve had entire platoons disappear without a trace just as well.” The fully black clad space marine spoke up now. “So either the orks are learning the meaning of tact… Or we’re dealing with another threat. Could we be dealing with Chaos instead.” His battle-brother scratched his chin. “If that is the case, perhaps we should contact the Ordo Malleus and have them investigate.”

“That will not be necessary.” The Inquisitor Lord spoke up, peering over the map of Marchionn Secundus. “My ship, the Mordremoth is currently is position in this sub-sector. If we have an ork uprising on our hands, I want to make sure our main force remains here, near the sector’s capital. However…” His finger dropped on a single planet. The Astartes with the blue and red shoulder peered over. “Manus Auram. Phi-Class? A forgeworld? That could explain the ork interest… If there is a mek leading them, then that world is likely their goal.” The Inquisitor stood up right again, peering at the Govenor. “What is the situation on each of Marchionn Secunda’s worlds?”

The Governor cleared his throat. “The multitude of the ork attacks appear to be aimed at Vyriem, the capital world of the sub-sector. Apparently, they had numerous confirmed Rok-landings. Manus Auram has suffered attacks aswell, but the Adeptus Mechanicus have been able to stave off most of the attacks. We have had no distress calls from the Forge World, yet communication has not been broken. Then you have Hajakis… A Delta Tau-World… The Orks seem to be massing from there… We believe they may have a camp there.” “What about that last planet?” The Inquisitor spoke up. “Corronus, my lord. A frozen dead planet. It doesn’t even have a breathable atmosphere.” The Inquisitor nodded, looking over the map once more, before turning to the space marines.

“Watch Captain Vogus. You will assemble a Kill-team and descend down to Vyriem. I imagine the situation there may be dire. You shall search for the leaders of this ork rabble on the planet and take them out. That should scatter them and allow the Imperial Guard to mop up the rest.” The Black Shouldered Space Marine bowed his head. “Consider it done, Lord Inquisitor.”
He then turned to the Marine sporting the blue with red shoulder. “Watch Captain Sorumus. You shall assemble a kill-team as well, but you will deploy onto Hajakis. These Orks need to be cleaned out, and while Captain Vogus will make a sweep of Vyriem, I trust you to cut this beast down at the source.” “We shall not fail, Lord Inquisitor.”

The Inquisitor then turned to the Governor. “I shall return to my ship now. However, I shall require a smaller ship from your fleet in order to deliver Captain Sorumus’ team. Make sure it is capable of transporting a droppod.” The Governor bowed his head. “At once, milord.”

And with that, the Inquisitor turned his back to the man and marched back the way he came, the two Deathwatch Captains in tow.

The mission was set. The enemy is clear. Now the Ordo Xenos will strike with fire and fury, and cleanse Marchionn Secunda of its Ork infestation.

Rules and Important Information

So, this story will take place in Sub-Sector Marchionn Secundus.
As normal, all the usual rules of Elliquiy for non-adult roleplay apply. There will no rolling or anything of the like required during this roleplay. This does not mean, though, that I will stand for every one blazing in and culling a single Ork Waaagh! on their own. While you are free to pick your weapons (within what is made available to you), you will not have unlimited ammunition. There may present options and possibilities for ammunition to be refilled, but I will announce those. No Ammo means no gunfire. So I hope you like using close-combat weapons if you’re triggerhappy.
However, you are still space marines, and your weapon will at the very least be standard bolter rounds. You will be powerful and able to take on multiple enemies easily. Worry not, though. I will provide you with plenty of numbers.

Many of the rules from the Deathwatch RPG books, while not enforced, will be applied logically. Psykers will run a constant risk. Defuncts in your chapter’s geneseed will be present.
In relation to that last point: When you sign up for this game with a character, it is expected that you know your chapter of choice well enough. You don’t have to know if they prefer reloading their bolter with a click or a clank. But you must know the basic ideology of your chapter, as well as their history, their habits, their faults, etc…

Further more on characters: This is Deathwatch. While it is perfectly fine to want to use a scout, your characters will be seasoned warriors. You are the elite of the Adeptus Astartes, handpicked to join the Ordo Xenos for the glory of the Emperor. Veterans, Sergeants, you name it. Your character will have a reason to join the Deathwatch. A reason that they left their own chapter behind for the Inquisition.

Next, the Deathwatch all sport similar armor and colors. You cannot divert from this. But ofcourse, if your battle-brother has earned certain seals or insignias (such as the Crux Terminatus), then they are certainly allowed to bear these upon their armor. Certain key appearances (such as the red hand of the Crimson Fists, or a robe for one of the Dark Angels) can be permitted, but I will be the one making that call.

Finally: What your marine’s specialization is, will be your choice entirely… But I will be implementing limitations on certain specializations, which will be listed before the template.

A final big rule I want to add: I do not want this roleplay to die once it gets started. I understand everyone can have real life butt in, but if one person slows down, the entire roleplay slows down. Whenever I have made a post, everyone will have one week to make their own post. Can’t make that deadline? Let us know beforehand and if the delay is not too big, we can stretch the deadline for you. Fail to do so, and the fate of your character is left in my hands.
Should you want to take a break or outright quit the roleplay, then please, inform us so we can give your character a proper exit. Failure to do so again, will once more mean your character’s fate is in my hands until their death.
Speaking of death. Character death IS permanent. If your character died because you decided not to show up anymore, then that will be your end in this roleplay aswell.
However, if your character falls during roleplay, options remain open, depending on the state of your character and their deeds. Perhaps you can still be saved? Or perhaps you will be granted the blessing of serving the Emperor after death in a Dreadnought.
But most of the time, death will result in you either deciding to leave us behind, or make a new character.

If at any time, you decide to leave the roleplay behind and you alert us of this, then no matter wether your character dies or not, we will gladly welcome you back to join us once more.

With that said, I believe we have gone over all the important things. If anything is unclear, be it rules or plot, then ask me. Otherwise, let the games begin!

IMPORTANT: While we wait for the game to get afoot, there will be an option depending on player preference. The RP will take place in one of the two available Kill-Teams. In your template, you will be required to include your preference: Either you join Watch Captain Vogus of the Iron Hands to the Hive World Vyriem, to protect the Imperial population from the encroaching orks. Or you can join Watch Captain Sorumus of the Crimson Fists, who shall strike onto the Jungle Death World Hajakis in order to destroy the orks at their supposed source. The one with the most votes will end being the mission EVERYONE goes on. In case of a tie, I will throw in the deciding vote.

Personality: (What kind of person is your marine? This is your default personality description. Please do respect the fact that you are a space marine, AND that your chapter of choice will also affect your personality a bit. Include any of your marine’s hopes, dreams and fears as well.)
History of Recruitment: (Space Marines can live for ages. You do not need to go over every detail. Actually, please don’t. You don’t need to tell how your character became a space marine and such. What we want to know is what did your character do that got him into Deathwatch. And if he already has been with Deathwatch for a good amount of time, then feel free to tell us of his adventures within the Ordo Xenos so far. The most important part is just why your character became part of the Deathwatch.)

NPCs:

Watch-Captain Vogus, Iron Hands Sternguard

Brother Agrast, Salamanders Sternguard
Name: Brother Agrast

Specialisation: Sternguard

Chapter: Salamanders

Appearance: Like any Salamander, Agrast sports a pitch-tinted skin and fiery red eyes. He is completely bald and has two studs of service embedded in his forehead. His armor is a default Mark VII Aquila pattern, with your usual decorations of an accomplished space marine. He also sports a Crux Terminatus on his left kneepad.

Personality: Agrast is focused and on point. He’s not very talkative to begin with, and drops almost completely silent when in the heat of battle. Outside of his battle, his focused demeanor persist, refusing to talk about idle chatter and notably being bothered by such chatter from others, especially Guardsmen.

History of Recruitment: Agrast distinguished himself in the defense of Forgeworld Uruh against a host of Orks. With most of his squad fallen, he managed to single-handedly escort a severely wounded Techpriest to restart the forgeworld’s automated defenses. Being forced at one point to stay behind, he was caught in the firestorm that followed from the automated defenses firing at him at the orks.
As by miracle, he survived almost unscatched, using a pile of ork corpses to shield himself from the turrets, while using his flamer to keep the orks out in the open.
This act had him eagerly promoted a First Company Veteran, aswell as awarding him with the Crux Terminatus.
When Deathwatch came requesting additional forces from the Salamanders, Agrast was signed up. However, he never wished to leave his chapter, but still went through with it.

Brother Tullius, Ultramarines Sternguard (Moxy)

Name: Tullius Valeran

Specialisation: Sternguard

Chapter: Ultramarines

Appearance: Black hair cut down extremely close to his scalp. Green eyes. Many facial scars. Strong jawline. Clean shaven (when possible). Average height and build for a space marine. Standard MKVII Armor.

Personality: Like all Ultramarines, Tullius does his best to follow the tactical doctrine laid down in the Codex Astartes. When working with astartes outside his chapter, Tullius is always happy to observe and learn from their different culture and tactics, although he is quick to speak up if he believes the Codex is being violated or the situation can be better served from observing it's advice. He prefers the most effective methods, rather than those that offer the best chance for glory, and would rather destroy an enemy safely from long range than close in to close quarters if possible. Outside of battle, Tullius acts professionally around those he doesn't know, sometimes appearing cold as he keeps to himself, but can be very friendly with those he comes to know well.

History of Recruitment: The first few decades of Tulius' early career saw him being deployed to combat numerous emerging ork threats throughout the Ultima Segmentum, more recently he has also been involved in several campaigns against the Tau Empire, and fought the Tyranid swarm of Hive Fleet Kraken. As such he is considered a veteran xenos killer. Tullius' skill with a bolter as well as other ranged weapons is considered to be among the best of the chapter, and when he was considered experienced enough, he was promoted to Sterngaurd of the chapter's first company. For these reasons, when the Ordo Xenos requested a battle brother be seconded to the Death Watch, Tullius was selected to represent the martial supremacy of the Ultramarines Chapter.

Cybernetics: None.

Wargear: Stalker Bolter. Flamer. Incendiary Grenades. Extra Ammunition.

Brother Ruhr, Black Shield Sternguard (Baalborn87)

Name: Brother Ruhr (Roo-her)

Specialisation: Sternguard

Chapter:
Information restricted Inquistorial Order I98767576
Soul Drinkers
Black Shield.

Appearance: Short cropped, straw blonde hair. Ice blue eyes. And patrician features Standard MkIV armour bereft of iconogrophy that is not Inquisitorial or Imperial.

Personality: A quiet stoic individual. Ruhr is a very focussed individual who will obey orders with an almost zealous loyalty. That is not to say he is some servitor who will follow orders without question. Experience before his recruitment with the Deathwatch has shown him that those in command are not always infallible and it is the duty of those under their command to question them should their orders be brought into question. They way Ruhr goes to his tasks can be considered bordering on reckless. As if he has something to prove.

History of Recruitment:
Restricted by Inquisital orde IOr42930947674A
One of the few marines to survive and escape the civil war that all but destroyed the Soul Drinkers and began their slow decent into chaos. Believing that some flaw lay in the hearts of all the members of his chapter. Ruhr has taken it upon himself to serve the Imperium by devoting what time the Emperor has given him to the Deathwatch. So that at least one member of The Soul Drinkers may earn the Emperors forgiveness.
Arriving at the Watch Fortress in armour cleaned of all markings and showing no colours but the bare metal underneath. He threw himself to the mercy and disposal of the Deathwatch and Ordo Xenos. Taking the black and swearing to serve the Deathwatch until Death claims him or the Emperor forgives him.

Cybernetics: None.

Wargear: Combi-melta, Plasma pistol+chainsword, extra ammo, Frag grenades

Other notes: None

Brother Castaigne, Blood Angels Vanguard (De Leon)

Name: Brother Castaigne

Specialisation: Vanguard

Chapter: Blood Angels

Appearance: Castaigne's power armour has a collar which protects his face nearly up to his nose. He has 5 service studs, marking 5 hundred years of service, embedded in his cranium. His armor is covered in purity seals ans miscellaneous decorations.  On his left knee pad a miniature Terminatus Crux is sculpted. His helmet has 3 blood red teardrop stones set in it.
He is wearing a Mk 8 "Errant" armour.
Castaigne is in no way beautiful like his Blood Angel Brothers. He is bold, scarred and more than half of his face is replaced with cybernetics due to a heavy trauma he survived. His left side of the face is metal and his jaw is replaced with Darth Vader-like respirator.

Personality: Castaigne is very much of a loner, not talking much unless he has to and preferring to keep company to himself. He is also hunted by visions of his failed mission, of his Battle Brothers dieing all around him. This happens usually when he is in the thick of fighting.
Castaigne is very prone to fall under influence of  Red Thirst, not distinguishing past from present and killing enemies without mercy. Thankfully he is still being able to distinguish between freinds and enemies.

History of Recruitment: Castaigne served Blood Agels for many, many years. Eventually he became a senior Sergeant of the First Company. He led a number of successful missions. Task Team Castaigne was completly destroyed by Eldar ambush. Broken in body and mind, Castaigne was the only survivor. Something snapped inside him that day, turning him moody, angry and very prone to Red Thirst.
Upon his recovery Castaigne left Blood Angels because he could no longer stand being there while all of his friends have died. He joined Deathwatch to get revenge on Eldar and to be somewhere where his experience will be needed.

Cybernetics: Multi-functioning contraption replacing left eye with 3 lenses (Heat, Infra-red, Targeters).  He lost his jaw to a Herald of Khorne and it is replaced with Vader-Like respirator. Aside from breathing sounds and making it a pain to eat, it can also increase Castaigne's voice loudness.

Wargear: Lightning Claws x2. Melta Charges.

Other notes: None

Brother Urgaine, Dark Angels Devastator (Landshark)

Name: Urgaine Patricks

Specialisation: Devastator

Chapter: Dark Angels

Appearance: Urgaine is short but stout for his chapter. His ‘bulldog’ stance and barrel chest made him perfect for heavy weapons service. His hair in short and flat to his head with a perfect bowl cut and shaved to the skin otherwise. His green eyes give him a welcoming look which breaks up his stern demeanor. Instead of the typical green of his chapter he wears a bone white shoulder pad to pay homage to his fallen brothers in the Dark Angels.

Personality: Urgaine is as cold as the stone of Caliban…at least until something strikes him as humorous. He tends to find ironic things very funny and usually laughs during combat several times. If others don’t see the humor he will point it out. Like the rest of his chapter he is stalwart and true never mixing words.

History of Recruitment: Urgaine had served in the Dark Angels for several decades quietly doing his duty as expected. That was until the forces of Chaos exploded out of the Eye of Terror in what became known as The 13th Black Crusade. Late to the height of fighting Urgains regiment made planet fall on Agrapina. Setting up hasty defenses their lines were spread then. Left to man a bunker with only one other brother they laid down a field of fire that held off wave after wave of chaos fanatics. A stray krak missile finally hit the bunker ripping the roof off as well as the head of his fellow brother, Wedging the other heavy bolter into a break in the stone he continued to fire until the belts ran dry. What was left was a field of dead like he had never seen. The action earned him an accommodation that he declined due to the death of his brother. The stalwart defense in the face of almost certain death earned him another a reward, the interest of the Deathwatch.

Cybernetics: None.

Wargear: Heavy Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Combat Knife, Krak Grenade, Signum

Other notes: None

Castaigne is very prone to fall under influence of  Red Thirst, not distinguishing past from present and killing enemies without mercy. Thankfully he is still being able to distinguish between freinds and enemies.

In general, Castaigne is not stable emotionally.

Which Kill-Team do you prefer: Because Castaigne, like any other Blood Angel lives to fly, he would prefer Kill Team Vogus, as it is much harder to use jump pack in jungle then in city.

Character Reviews:
Moxy - A nice and clean, standard Ultramarines Sternguard. Nothing wrong with this and glad to see the first character on the list be a fairly normal one, even though we're talking about a veteran. Approved.
Baalborn - Exactly what I expected from your Black Shield. Definately liking the option for Corvus armor instead of Aquila. Approved.
De Leon - A complete contrast to the previous two; but that doesn't mean it's a bad character! However, there are some things I want to note here. First things first, while I did say you could have decorations and purity seals, the amount you describe wouldn't exactly carry all over to the Deathwatch. It's a minor detail, and doesn't require any changing, but it's still important to note. Your armor would probably be a bit cleaner.
One big flaw I see however, is the mention that he walks with a limp. Castaigne is a Vanguard Veteran, aka an Assault Marine. Those jumppack landings aren't very soft and gentle. Even the best made bionics could sustain some serious damage after a number of jumps. I'd consider dropping that idea. That is my only problem with it, though. If you drop or change the Bionic leg, then you'll be good to go.

I'll be preparing something small for each approved character aswell, before placing them in the character list. And so far, unless we get three sudden joiners that'll all vote on Kill-Team Soromus, it seems Vogus will be the Watch Captain in charge.

Alright, both Tullius and Ruhr have been added to the official character list, including a quick and simple representative image of each.

Cybernetics: none
Wargear: Heavy Bolter, Bolt Pistol, Combat Knife, Krak Grenade, Signum
Other notes:
Which Kill-Team do you prefer: Kill Team Vogus

@Landshark

Looking good, except one detail:
You want Urgaine to have a bone white shoulder pad instead of the usual green... But would that not depict him as Deathwing instead? Considering I see no mention of joining the Deathwing Company.
My suggestion could perhaps be his right arm or hand, and perhaps the rim of his shoulderpad could sport the bone white colour, while still keeping the usual green for the shoulderpad itself.

Landshark

Deathwing is all bone white. It is common practice for brothers to have bone white on their armor in memorial. Since he is giving up his chapter colors i figured he would use the bone white to carry that forward as it is both chapter and memorial colors...if thats not cool its ok i can leave it green

E1Alpha

Hmm, guess I need to brush up on my Dark Angels knowledge then. Well, I see no harm done with it, so I'll let you stick with bone-white.
I'll try getting the IC up and running asap.

Looks like we're joining Kill-Team Vogus

It will be, but I've had a busy life the past few days.
I'll try to get this underway soon!

Finally, I'm getting around to getting this RP going. I've added the last two missing characters at the top, and I expect to be able to get the IC thread running at the latest tomorrow

E1Alpha

A bit later than planned... But finally, it's here!

https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=233709.0

When you post, please include a line of TAGS at the top of your post if you are trying to interact with anyone specific.
I will also include a tag COMBAT ENGAGED whenever the RP enters combat. As long as this tag is present, you are only allowed one post for each post I make.
At any other times, you can post multiple times before I make my next post if you so wish.
This is to make sure that combat remains fluid, but you're able to interact freely when you're not blowing up orks.

Any questions, do ask! Other than that, let's get this party started!

EDIT: I've also added all the NPC characters at the top here. I will fill these in as we go along, so some might stay empty for a while.

E1Alpha

@De Leon: The Signum Urgaine has is a specific piece of wargear he carries with him, allowing the targetting system of nearby Power Armors to link up. Your character doesn't have or need one :P Just a little mistake in your post x3
