L.O.V.E. Bomb (Gauging Interest)

It was an ordinary day like any other... The wind was calm, the autumn air brisk and inviting. No one suspected that they were being targeted by a most peculiar means of attack...

That evening, at the Metlife Stadium, a bomb was detonated overhead by drone right in the middle of a game. In a deluge of pink mist, there was absolute chaos... when exposed to the Love Bomb, children and people over the age of 45 become overwhelmed with a sublime feeling of contentedness and eventually they fall into a deep slumber. Sexually mature and capable adults, however, are consumed with an insatiable lust. While retaining all of their higher brain function, the victims' entire purpose in life becomes sexual gratification.

The players on both teams gangbanged the female reporters on the field. The cheerleaders lined up a row to take every single camera man and sideline crew one by one. The stands became an orgy- men and women having sex with whoever was able. Men happily let their wives get plowed by strangers while they waited to get hard again. The stands became a slippery mess of more than spilled beer and soft drinks...

This continued for hours. The cloud had dispersed quickly, but the intoxicating effect remained on all the victims long after. Police stood outside in gas masks, but it was decided that any attempt to go in and rescue the victims would end of harming them. By all appearances, there was no rape going on at all. Everyone entirely consented, and some were even willing to wait. Those who weren't got themselves off without complaint. Those who were unaffected remained peacefully at rest amidst all the chaos around them.

Later that night, a new 'Terrorist Group' L.O.V.E. took responsibility for the attack. The Liberation Of Venery for Everyone. Their spokesman, face obscured, said that this was but the beginning. They made no demands, held no ransom, and only promised that soon, everyone would know love.

The worst of injuries were a few bruises, and the only condition that was treated for that day was 'exhaustion'... it took days for the effects to wear off completely, whereupon victims returned to their normal selves.

You are a special agent of the government, assigned to an investigative task force. Your mission- hunt down and stop L.O.V.E. before they strike again. Police, FBI, NSA, CIA, even the military has offered specialists to help find these culprits and prevent another not-at-all deadly attack.

Looking for:

3-5 players.

The first thing that came to mind was the main cast of the Evil Within, sexy old-school Scully and Mulder types from the FBI. That being said, this is a silly Tom Clancy-esque drama. You could play the lab-rat chemist that studies the chemical compounds, the military guy/girl that leads the kicking-down-doors team, or a behavioral analysis person a la Criminal Minds. Think of any super-serious film like The Siege or Body of Lies dealing with national panic and that's the kind of story I want to turn on its head.

Other inspirations include, oddly enough, Parasite Eve and Zombie flicks, if only because of the Carnegie Hall scene and the 'mass infection' type scenarios.

Hell, let's make it an international threat. L.O.V.E. threatens everyone! Always liked IQ, myself.

So, I'm toying around in my head of various themes or tones that I'd like to do this.

I am tempted to make it more serious... One of the inspirations is Resident Evil 6/Revelations 1. If you are familiar with them, a terrorist organization unleashes bioweapons upon innocent populations. The other inspiration is Parasite Eve, in which two very public places (Carnegie Hall and a Central Park concert) are attacked by a supernatural being.

If we kept it silly, then L.O.V.E. is only after some arbitrary hippie free-love objective and there's not much mystery to it. It would be weird and anticlimactic for guys to kick down doors and be greeted by harmless hedonists.

If we were more serious, then the SWAT-type characters won't be so out of place... L.O.V.E. might openly profess an agenda of free love and hedonism, but that might be a smokescreen for something more insidious or perhaps their attacks become more varied and more dangerous as time goes on...

One of the themes that I wanted to work with in either scenario is the idea that L.O.V.E. garners a lot of sympathy. Their bomb, dropped on, say, a warzone, could lead to peace. Their bomb, if altered, could pacify rioting populations. People retain their intelligence and identity while in their sex-crazed state. It is very contentious for the government to start kicking down doors and raiding places with fully automatic weapons when all L.O.V.E. (apparently) wants to do is spread love.

I'm all for a more serious tone. Should there be some terrifying consequence to all that random fornicating though? You know besides knocking up a bunch of random women.

Certainly a number of relationships were probably put on thin ice, especially if one member wasn't at the scene as well. The other consequence could be the feeling of being manipulated and even raped. A lot of people saving themselves would be quite disappointed... I've no doubt quite a few would even be traumatized and horrified of themselves for having enjoyed it and partook in it as much as they did, even though there was nothing they could do.

The national debate might be over whether L.O.V.E. are horrible proxy rapists or liberated free love pioneers. There would probably be a swell of support for them, even if that group remains in the minority.

I have to think more on the nature of L.O.V.E., and they may indeed have demands- pretty benevolent or harmless ones, even.

Well there was this one movie about a girl who caught an STD from this guy who worked in a morgue. She turned into a zombie.

I'm not sure what views my character would have of L.O.V.E. just yet. I'd imagine more bad than good.

Biography: Eoghain's father Robert was a first generation Scottish immigrant that had moved with his parents from Scotland in the sixties. His mother Aliana was an African American. They'd met in Vietnam, where Robert was an infantryman, who'd been hit by a shrapnel blast. Aliana was one of the nurses that cared for him. Within months of returning home, the couple got married, despite both families' objection. They had three children. Aisha, Eoghain and Marcus.

From a young age, Eoghain was interested in the workings of the mind, and was often pondering why people did bad things, or good things for that matter. His parents' explanations involving god and the devil never really sounded logical to him. When he finished high school, he started college with the intention of studying psychology, but after having witnessed an awful case on campus, involving a young student's death, Eoghain decided he'd go into criminology. His high grades combined with his athletic prowess (He was a fullback in the college football team) brought him to the intention of the FBI's recruiters.

He joined up right after college, and served seven years with the Tampa field office, studying for his masters in his spare time. He then applied for, and was accepted into the BAU (Behavioral analysis unit) He worked there for another five years, getting his Ph.D. in criminal psychology after redefining several key profiling criteria. Nearly a year ago, he was promoted to ASAC and placed with a team in the FBI's national security division.

Another thing, the whole introduction/pitch is still subject to change. The attack might not be in NYC, might not be at a football game, and it might not even be an attack.

Hell, it might not even be a 'terrorist' organization.

The possibility of supernatural origins for the 'event' that causes everyone to go at it isn't off the table, either...

Qualities:  Languages (German/French/Russian/Italian), Hand-to-hand combat, Firearms.  Not great at working with partners.
Biography:  Air Force brat, moved all over in her formative years.  Left to her own devices, she chose to learn languages so she could know what was being said around her.  The desire to know what was going on never left her.  She considered a military career, but opted for law enforcement because there were less restrictions.  She puttered about in high school and college with the sciences and discovered she didn't have a knack for such precision.  However, codes and ciphers were her thing; she's able to see patterns others miss.  Her bad attitude towards authority nearly got her shit-canned, but she managed to make nice when needed and it helped that her scores were top notch.  She started her career in the NYPD often used in decoy work to start.  A few good busts and she moved ahead.  When an offer came to the precinct for her to attend the FBI special academy for peace officers across the country, she was sent and represented the City well.  So well, she was recruited and found her niche with the FBI.  She still has trouble working with a partner.  But, she was getting better about it; she hardly ever wanted to shoot them anymore.

Qualities:  Good at operating a revolver by civilian standards, Understands Deer Body Language, Can Balance a Budget, Understands the Meaning of the phrase '¿Dónde está el baño?' and other basic Spanish.  Able to live off the land.

Biography:  An everyman who is down on his luck after the local park employing him cut the 'Ranger' position to save money.  John has led a mostly ordinary life and has managed to make about the same number of mistakes as most twenty three year olds do.   Of course, now that he's unemployed, he's not afraid of lying on an employment application.

So the game might start off more subtle. The big 'attack' described in the intro might not be backstory but something that happens a little further down the line and the team is given a chance to anticipate or respond to it.

For the general tone and structure... imagine a bit of a mystery/manhunt. The task force will be given a number of leads and you guys go out and chase them. Interviewing witnesses, investigating crime scenes, raiding safehouses, general detective stuff. Everyone will probably go out with a partner, and I'll try to mix it up so that people partner swap. IE; The chemist and the field agent go together to investigate a chemical plant in one scene... then the field agent teams up with a behavioral analyst to interview witnesses while the chemist works with a tech geek guy to figure out how the LOVE bomb is weaponized.

So the ideal number of players might be 4-6.

So we have two investigative types, a door-kicker and... whatever it is John would do.  ::) I'll probably not end up using that earlier idea of mine, given how similar it is to Jamie. Though, I can say from experience that I'm kind of apprehensive about any group game that includes a character whose traits include 'doesn't work well with others.' :P

If you're still interested, Sirian, the scientist niche has yet to be filled.

Other ideas that I can work with...

Nerd labrat. Either a chemist or tech geek, the one prattling away on the keyboard inbetween shots of Jack Bauer shooting dudes. Usually found in the lab doing forensic analysis, but would occasionally go on-site to do field work.

The Informant. Someone who knows something about LOVE from the inside. Probably not a member, but knows some people who are. Hard to say what they'd be at this moment, since LOVE could be a cult, terrorist organization, or a front for something else. If this interests anyone, we can brainstorm ideas about it in PMs. I'm getting project mayhem/fight club vibes though.

The regular. Maybe a cop that was working on this case long before it ever went public. The FBI wants to come in and take over, throwing around jurisdiction... but they're not so willing to give up yet. They've accumulated months or years' worth of evidence and demands to be part of the effort.

I have other ideas, like an administrator type that deals with internal stuff- spokesman/woman stuff or dealing with government and the like... but that sounds boring to play and might be better suited for an NPC.

And, Jamie is getting better about partnerships....  (geeze)  That being said, you can decline the character; it's your story and I sure wouldn't hold it against you. 

My thinking was that she'd be even more appalled than the average person when/if she came around in a tangle of naked bodies.  Something to sink the literary teeth into, you know? Perhaps it makes her less standoffish...or, a little jittery...  who knows.  Until it filters out of the cranium, down through the fingertips even I don't know what my characters are going to do or say. :-/

If there are too many field ops, or Jamie just doesn't suit, I could create a lab rat/forensic person a la NCIS's Abby.

Random idea for that NPC agent I may or may not play... she got a big break in her career when a whole squad in a major gang turned informant under her supervision, leading to a big drug bust. In truth she'd been sexually involved with a number of them, possibly at the same time. Sure, there may have also been favors and legal promises thrown in there... and maybe a 'friendly' warning about actually arresting them should they go public with their relationship with her. Though of course... the sex is great.
