So this is more a general question than an actual problem, but...

The font on the site looks different to me now than it did last time I logged on. Anyone notice it too? I like it, I find it easier to read and prettier, but no one I've asked so far seems to have noticed it and I'm wondering if I'm going crazy haha.

I've been wondering the same thing! I like this new font as well, but it was jarring to notice the change.

At first I thought I must have just hit a button on my keyboard that made the font size smaller, but to my eyes it really does look like the font has changed to something new. Wasn't the old one Verdana? Slight change but no complaints from me. I do like it.

This one's characters have a tiny bit more space between them. That's all I can say for sure lol.

I'm pretty sure it hasn't changed, as I've made this exact same comparison before, with the same results (at least with Windows7 and IE10)

Normal font at 9pt

The normal font in the middle appears to be like 9 1/2 pt, a relatively stingy font for those of us who don't have 25 year old eyes.  And that's the same way it appeared a year ago when I tried this.

Okay, I found this here:

And for comparison, just now:

Ignore the difference in size, I don't know if I zoomed in to snap the first one back then. But, look at the curves of the characters and the spacing between them.

This is interesting, because I what I see at the same place on my page looks exactly like what you saw on February 7 ... which is why I'm not seeing what you are seeing with post type.  Did you recently switch computers, or update operating systems?

The font looks different to me, but who knows.  I can't -tell- what the difference is, just that it's different.  It looks like it may have been downsized in point to me, because I had to take my requests in my O/O and bump them up a notch for me to see them, where the day before it had been fine.  (i.e., My 8pt font yesterday looked like 8.  Today, it looked like 6.5pt.  I had to bump it to 10 so I could read it.)

Um - This might be nothing, but I know that I've occasionally reduced my font size by accident.  Maybe check a Ctrl+0 to ensure you haven't zoomed out by accident?

Well normal font size was too small for my eyes, and still is (so I may not be able to discriminate too small from way too small), :o  which is why I work at 150% magnification on site.  ;)

Beguile's Mistress

Also, if you inadvertently hold down the Ctrl button and move your mouse wheel you can increase or decrease the font size on your screen without realizing it.  I'm not seeing any difference though on my laptop.

Amelita

I triple checked that the zoom was at 100%.

Looking at the site on my phone now and it looks like what I'm used to.
Gonna open up the lappy to see if it still looks different on there.

...still looks different on the laptop.

As for what exactly is different: The characters have more space between them and they are wider in relation to height than what most of you all are looking at. If you look at my pics up there you can also see in the e's how the horizontal line in it is more in the middle of the character in the font I see now, and a little above the middle of the character in the font you are looking at.

But again, this is not really a problem, just something I'm wondering about since it definitely did change for me and I sort of thought I was going crazy when no one else seemed to have it happen too. Now that a couple of others mention seeing the difference I'm a bit calmer :P

Yep, the font looks different for me as well.

Rhedyn

It looks different for me too, not that I'm complaining, it's actually easier on my eyes. I had assumed it was just a change over the site for everyone but apparently not.

Kitsunetsuki

It looks "tighter" to me. I noticed it a few days ago, but wasn't sure. I checked a few other sans serif fonts & it still looks like verdana, but has more of the feel of calibri.

Also, remember that a font will only show up if you have it installed on your computer. Meaning, you could put text in vivaldi all day long, and I will only see it in the site's default font if I do not have vivaldi installed. (this always freaks me out at work, because there are more fonts installed on that computer & I have very few on my computer at home)

So, that may be why some people are seeing it & others are not. :-)

Make sure you have Verdana installed as a font?

Can also rebuild your font cache, but been a long time since I've heard of someone needing to do that.

Well, like I said, it looks like verdana. Just the "feel" of it looked like something else. The height of the characters (meaning, how tall the small letters are) is definitely verdana (and I have it installed). Just not sure why it looks different, that's all. (and no, I don't zoom) Doesn't matter, either way it looks good :-)

Are you using Chrome as your web browser? My font changed recently as well, but on all websites including E. I thought it was a change Google made to Chrome.

Oreo

Odd. The font looks the same to me on Chrome and FireFox. The only thing that changed on Chrome was about six months back. I can no longer see pictures or signatures when I use Chrome. I can still see avatars though. This phenomenon is only on E.  :-\

And here I thought I was going mad. The fonts seem different on my end, as well.
Browser-related?
The font is definitely verdana, but I agree that something is... off about it.
What does it say about writers if they get so used to staring at digital, printing letters that they all collectively notice minute changes *chuckles*.

I agree. I can't put my finger on it, but the characters are smaller, narrower, thinner. It kinda hurts the eyes, but only because I'm not used to it, I suppose.

That might be it... I messed around with the settings and it almost looks back to normal. Instructions here.

I figured it was a Chrome-related update that changed some default font settings and the like.
It doesn't bother my eyes right now, I'll see whether it's worth tweaking in a few weeks.

Google did make a big change fixing its horrific font rendering in Chrome, yes.

It was a weird thing that hit me too last night, was wondering if I was the only one that saw it, so I'm glad to know I wasn't alone. It's not unpleasant, just made me worry if I'd finally lost my last marble and wonder why it was a font thing that did it to me. ;)

On another note, using the 'Beige' setting removes the bar graph on a person's profile stats page. Found that on accident. Never thought I'd like Beige...

I'm so glad I'm not alone in this.  I just updated Chrome tonight -- after days of seeing it available -- and noticed the difference, but as I liked it so much I wasn't going to say anything just in case I was crazy crazier.

Ditto. Every time I typed a message and pressed preview, the font seemed to shift (sticking closer together and then going back to 'normal' again).
And the font itself seemed changed. I just thought there was tinkering being done to the site. ;D

Amazee

The font is different for me in Safari than it is in Firefox though that may be because they are different browsers though most other sites I go to don't have that change and they look the same on both.
