Original Post: This is an interest check for a Front Mission-based RP. For those unfamiliar with the series, it takes place in a future where 'wanzers' (mechs, from the German word, 'wanderpanzer', walking tank) are common place. Wanzers are used for civil, construction, and military purposes. They come in a variety of types, from spider-legged to hovering to bipedal, all the way up to absolutely enormous city-wrecking superweapons. Each is usually highly customized by it's pilot, outfitted with different weapons and settings based on combat ability and personal preference. The world is rife with conflict, especially between the OCU (Oceanaia Community Union; Japan, Australia, southeast Asia) and the USN (United Continental States/United States of New Continent; USA, Canada, South America). So, naturally, the players in this little story will be from both of these nations (anywhere in the world, really) as a crisis threatens the entire world and forces everyone into cooperation to confront a larger threat to global peace. For now this is just an interest check, so I'm looking for people who're up for a good 'ol time piloting giant robots. Knowledge of the series is not necessary.

Syopsis: The year is 2092. Mechs now fight on the front lines alongside infantry, tanks, and other weapons of war. Called 'Wanzers' (from the German word, 'wanderpanzer', walking tank), these machines are common enough to be used for both civilian and military purposes. Wanzer pilots often customize their mechs down to the tiniest detail based on personal preference and fighting style. Technology in the field is rapidly advancing and often, such advances (and the resources that create them) are responsible for conflict. A new conflict is about to be born, the result of advancing technology, greed, and revenge.

Jericho Durai, born in the OCU, was raised in a secret government facility that was developing super soldiers in secret. Wildly expensive and hardly successful (9 out of 10 candidates went insane or died of mysterious causes), the project was scrapped and the living soldiers were disposed of. Or so the OCU thought. Jericho survived and made it to the USN, a rival supernation. Hell bent on revenge against his tormentors, he vowed to use his skills to destroy the OCU. Little did he know that treachery cares little for borders. Durai was increasingly unstable and, though he met with success in a number of missions for the USN, he was deemed a risk and abandoned by his team mid-mission, left to die. Twice betrayed, the remains of Jericho's sanity snapped and he vowed revenge against both the USN and OCU; this time, however, he would do it on his terms. With his own army. With his own wanzers. With his own hands. Now, all the data on the OCU's super soldier program is missing and a top secret wanzer prototype has been stolen.

Jericho Durai has just announced his demands: Blood for blood.

I played the hell out of the first front mission on my SNES Emulator and again with the translated version for the DS. (Also Gun hazard if that counts :P) Haven't played the newer ones, but I'd love to be in a FM RP.

No one else at all? That's a shame.

Who doesn't love giant robots? AK47 and I do. You should too.

The Super Nintendo and Playstation games were spiffy. I didn't realize the series was still going.

I think I'll toss my hat into this. Though I only played 4, I thourghly enjoyed the game. Plus I'm a Mecha fan, Gundam, Armored Core, Full Metal Panic, Vanguard Bandits...>.> if that's a game anyone else is familiar with.

Oh man, oh man, oh man! Oh oh! I have GOT to be in on this! I so totally love Front Mission.

Likely going to play a Zaftran Mercenary of some sort.

Question! Do we have to play a generic mech, or can we customize bits and bobs from the ones you listed? I.E. Suppose I wanted a Grapple Body, Kyojun arms, and Calm legs?

Also, any restrictions on weapons use? Should we try to stick to typical roles, or would a missile using machine gunner be okay?

Stick to the 'generic' mechs, no mixing and matching. Reasons for not having fully custom mechs will be explained in-game. You can pick whichever weapons you like, though sticking to the archetypes makes more in-game sense. Just don't overload it and give it one of everything.

Pilot Info:
-Name: Rudvitch, Dimitri, "Habar" (Russian slang, means "treasure" "loot" or "swag")
-Rank: OMON officer
-Age: 31
Gender: M
-Ht: 70 inches
-Wt: 220 lbs

Appearance: Dimitri posing with an AS VAL sniper rifle

Bio: Dimitri comes from a long line of Spetsnaz (His father and grandfather both bearing this title), and while he was interested in pursuing such a career, he ultimately ended up in OMON, a counter-terrorist organization, in its Wanzer division. Because of the fact he is in OMON, most of his civilian records are blacked out; nobody really knows who or what he is. Zaftra, even when it was once Russia, has had a habit of creating "ghosts" like him. However, he was born in Moscow.

A natural with a rifle, he had initial difficulty with the Wanzer pilot training, but managed to prevail. He has been assigned this mission to represent Zaftra as a sniper specialist. Because of part of his training, he has been conditioned against traditional forms of torture, as well as being well versed in how to pry information out of people... off the books, of course. As an OMON officer, he has personally been in four actual Wanzer battles in his entire life.

He hates the state of his country, how it rots and is on the verge of failure. He does not blame the EC, like many, however; he knows that they're just doing what is best for them. Rather, his hatred is directed more towards the old fools in his own country, who let pride or a fear of new ventures keep them bound to an outdated approach. He does not approve of optimism or idealism, nor childishness. He is a cold, harsh realist, and many have often times described him as a bitter cynic.  His strictness in all aspects of life is just a byproduct of his training, and is very common amongst his fellow OMON agents.

Skills: Long distance weapons (Sniper rifles, bazookas, missiles), recon, interrogation, interrogation resistance,  human sized sniper rifles.

Wanzer Info:
-Type: Vyzov (Urban camo colors, has an OMON emblem on the shoulders)
-Weapons: Glowtusk (Sniper rifle)
-Backpack: BP-S02
-Items:
RF ammo MAX
Remove All
Repair 200 (2x)

Yes, though in this game you can only equip one missile pod, where as someone who's playing a dedicated missiler could equip, say, two and a grenade launcher.

The bio could use just a little more and the formatting needs some work. Too many line breaks. Other than that, s'okay with me.

Added some more information to the bio, removed some of the lines, specified a sniper rifle (Glowtusk) . How is it now?

Pilot Info
-Name: Olliver, Andrew, "Albein"
-Rank: E-8 or First Sergeant
-Age: 27
Gender: Male
-Ht: 67 inches
-Wt: 187

Appearance: Andrew

Bio: Born and raised in the USN, Andrew was always a cocky kind of person. From when he was a little kid doing the dares other kids would give him all the way up to high school and beyond when he would always aim to take out the bigger man, Andrew grew up being a sort of risk-taker. It was no surprise to everyone when he joined the USN armed forces, thinking it would give him the rush he seemed to yearn, and indeed it did. As a common soldier Andrew was always nominated by his CO to do the most dangerous of tasks, establishing explosives, demolishing hostile weapon stockpiles, ...all the tasks that seemed to fuel his need for adrenaline. His all-or-nothing attitude eventually saw him promoted numerous times, being told "only a soldier who is willing to sacrifice everything, can be victorious," and he was eventually granted the honor of piloting a wanzer. Even when behind the controls of a wanzer Andrew displays his cocky nature in the actions that he does, but his weapon loadouts are always on the explosive side of things with at least a grenade launcher in the sortie.

Skills: Observation, Demolition,  and precision marksmanship

Here you go Hanged, this is a little more visually pleasing;

TheHangedOne

Okay, Mz, I put that in for the bio. Also, after seeing Kev's post, I added a backpack to my dude's wanzer. Item backpack with two repair 200's, a remove all, and rifle ammo max.

MzHyde

No, it's not necessary. Anyway, you two should both be fine. No more Snipers, we'll need some assault-types.

Kevben Battleheart

Well if you wish I can switch mine over with ease, one sniper is enough for the squad and I wouldn't mind switching at all. Besides, IMO, assault's can be a little more fun than a sniper.

That loadout is more than likely too heavy. You're going to have to ditch the shotgun or the grenade launcher, to make it a little more balanced.

I has questions:

- Is this basically all players vs. Durai?

- What version(s) of Front Mission are we supposed to use for reference on loadouts? I get the impression some things change from one version of the game to the next. FM4's the only one I'm familiar with so I've been using that one so far for my theoretical build, but in researching a little it seems like shields work differently in some games compared to others, specifically with regard to how guarding and dodging work, though maybe I'm just misreading...

-...and on a related note, is there some system involved with this or is it freeform?

1)Not Durai alone. He has his own crop of followers to contend with. Once the game begins, you'll see what I mean. I have a lot of action and story beats planned already, so things will always be exciting.

2&3) There is no system, it's all free form. You don't even have to specify parts or weapons if you don't want to. Just pick a wanzer from the available types and a load out (as long as its nothing too crazy) and go. As far as timeline goes, this takes place after the second Huffman Island conflict ie; just after FM1.

I'm not too picky, really. My highest concern is that the players have fun. ;)

Ah, hokay then.

Haha. No need to get that deep. There will be lots of combat to be sure, but What's most important will be the story and the teams relationship as they fight together. I have some lovely twists in store.

-Name: Yonin, Vanessa "Vulture" (wont tell people her real name and prefers to be called by her Arena name or Big sis.)
-Rank: Civilian, 1 time regional arena champion.
-Age: 22
Gender: F
-Ht: 5ft9
-Wt: 122lbs

Bio,
A war orphan from Huffman island, Vanessa took care of herself and other orphan kids by scavenging the battlefields. Having lost her family in what she perceives as a pointless war, she grew to hate the OCU and USN, as well as the military in general. Eventualy she graduated from stealing from corpses to sneaking into military camps and even hijacking wanzers. At first she just sold them for scrap, but eventually she realized her talent in wanzer piloting and entered the arena, where she saw moderate success. Eventually earning a job as a mercenary.
Vanessa, or Vulture as she prefers to be called, spends most of her earnings on supporting her brothers and sisters back in the Orphanage now that the huffman island conflict is over. However she finds her talents as a pilot make her best suited for the kind of job she hates the most. She justifies becoming a mercenary with the argument that it gives her an opportunity to kill soldiers, and that the money is going to a good cause.

Skills,
-Close combat/evasion
-Wanzer maintenance/repair
-Scavenging/jury rigging
-Stealth (only on foot)
-Whoring

Wanzer,
A red Calm named Carrion, armed with two machine guns and a repair backpack. It's cobbled together from spare parts and looks like a piece of junk, but she keeps it running properly.

(Does anybody know how to resize images?)

MzHyde

Nicely done, AK. As of right now, I've got you, myself (profile up later tonight) and HangedMan. Still waiting on Kevben to adjust his. Shjade, will you be creating one as well? We should be just about ready to go, as I want the group to be fairly small. 5-8 or so.

Pilot Info:
-Name: Saunders, Halle - "Grim"
-Rank: 2nd Lieutenant
-Age: 24
Gender: F
-Ht: 6'0''
-Wt: 145lbs

Appearance:Tall and athletic, generally dressing in her flight suit. She often wears a tan duster or other long coat over it while off base or in climes that require such protection. Since a certain incident she walks with a limp on her left leg and sports an x-shaped facial scar upon her left cheek. More scars criss-cross the left side of her body. She always appears neat and in order and has a very serious demeanor.

Bio:Halle's childhood was fairly typical. She was born and raised in the USN, in New York City. By all accounts she led and average life. Average grades, average friends, average family. Things didn't pick up for her until she joined the army. Once enlisted she quickly proved herself a valuble soldier and after putting in some time with the 42nd platoon she was asked to join the Hell's Wall unit. In other countries Hell's Wall has a reputation for violence and hot tempered pilots, but in the USN the story is quite different. Hell's Wall is, in actuality, a unit called in when the army is severely outnumbered. This highly capable wanzer division steps into the line of fire, buying time for other troops to retreat. The battlefield is Hell, and they are the wall. It was during her time with this unit that Jericho Durai joined the USN. Halle was selected to go on a mission with the ex-OCU soldier. During this mission, [CLASSIFIED]

Skills:Tactics, Calm Demeanor, Marksmanship

Wanzer Info:
-Type: Frost HW - "Reaper" - Red color, Hell's Wall emblem
-Weapons: Rifle, Shield, Chaff

I will indeed. Bio is more of a personality workup than a history since, well, I'm not familiar with much of Front Mission's setting or history, which would make it hard to write about. Let me know if it needs tweaking?

Pilot Info
Name: Singh, Kira - "Himsa" (Sanskrit: violence, harm, to injure)
Age: 25
Sex: F
Ht: 5'6"
Wt: 132 lbs.

Appearance
Kira typically wears her hair long and doesn't fuss much with it, providing a fairly unkempt look that meshes with the rest of her often casual ensemble, at least when she's off-duty. She tends toward loose-fitting cotton, comfortable clothes rather than fashionable, with the exception of nights she's planning to go out on the town which calls for something more appealing, a closer fit that will exhibit her svelte figure to prime advantage. Her eyes are a brown so dark they could pass for black in low lighting.

Bio
While her official combat role is clearly designated, it's been jokingly suggested by a few of Kira's peers in the OCU army that her real specialty is compartmentalization. Outside of combat situations she's personable, outgoing. She makes a point of spending time with members of her unit to bring everyone together and have a little fun, keep the group dynamics healthy, a practice she's followed since late in her training and recruitment stage. Her family - parents and a younger brother - live in Mandurah, Australia where she visits them regularly, though never to talk about work. She maintains a close circle of friends outside the military and, up until recently, had been in a relationship with a nice boy from Thakek.

Inside a wanzer, in a combat situation? Well...an excerpt from one of her early career training reports explains the difference fairly well.

"TRN Singh issued firearm rigged to misfire and jam during simulation, single enemy wanzer engagement.
Simulation intent: force trainee to disengage from field, await support to disable pursuer.
Trainer failed to anticipate TRN Singh choice to use firearm as non-projectile weapon instead of retreat.
Outcome: Pass, with reservation. TRN Singh pay docked 10 months toward repair cost of damaged firearm, retrofit of battered pursuit wanzer."

Psych evaluations are standard procedure for all wanzer pilots and Kira's never failed one; her vim in battle isn't drawn from irrational rage or berserk fury or the like. Her history holds no tragic stories of military or terrorist action destroying a loved one or personally impacting her life at all. She has no vengeance to seek, no passion to pursue on the battlefield. She simply joined the army out of the sense that it was the right thing for her to do and she has proven herself an individual who excels at disrupting enemy formations with her fearlessness and swift action in the field. If she has not yet been considered for higher-ranking positions it is most likely due to a lack of apparent interest in climbing the chain of command.

Skills
Excellent action and reaction time; close-combat focus, particularly in maximizing disruption of the enemy with pressure; fluidity of engagement and disengagement; evasion.
(Just for the hell of it, the skill set I had in mind for her in FM4 terms: Defense I, AP Cost: -8, Feint II, Charge II, Blast Strike I, Escape I)

Wanzer Info
Type: Zenith - "Gada" (Sanskrit: club, specifically a mace named for the demon Gada from whose bones it was made for Vishnu)
Loadout:
RH: F-5 Hand Rod
LH: F-5 Hand Rod or SN-40 (second rod on most offensive missions; shield on most defensive missions)

I quite like it! Bravo, Shjade. Looks like we have two assault, one melee, and one long range. Good enough balance to kick things off with and if more join we can work them in later (or before things take off). I'll post up the OOC and IC tomorrow evening.
