Hey [you]!

I'm ebpohmr, an Erroneous By-Product Of a Human Mating Ritual. Yes its an acronym. That's just how I roll! I am also known around here as the Purple Pope, the Muse Doctor and the Spice Weasel. Yeah, I know, I rock! Anyway, enough with the self-aggrandizement and on to the important stuff, neh?

Here's how it is - I remember how it was to be going through the approval process, waiting to be able to sink my teeth into some fun, enjoyable writing and role play. For whatever reason, I couldn't make that happen. I suspect I am not unique in that regard, so here I am trying to do my part to change things! While I hope that others will follow my lead in time, for now I can only offer myself as a role play and/or writing companion. If you do not mind a bit of a wait between replies - I do have existing commitments after all, I would be only too happy to sort something out with anyone who is interested.

In terms of what I am comfortable with:

Romance
Adventure
Mystery
Action
Historic
Supernatural
Science Fiction (a big interest of mine!)
Fantasy
Anthro/alien

There are probably more things I could add to the list, but I can't think what they might be right now! If you don't see something that you are interested in, don't worry - I am always willing to try something new and just about everything interests me!

Just drop me a note below with what you are seeking - I will get back to you and we will see what is to be done! I am especially happy to hear from those completely new or inexperienced with role playing - it would be an honour to help you take your first steps towards developing a love for this hobby I hold so dear!

What counts as PG-13/non-adult?

According to the Motion Picture Association of America:

G – General Audiences
Such media may contain only mild fantasy violence or crude humor. Such films have no nudity, sex or drugs of any kind. Alcohol and tobacco may be used in small amounts by adults in the movie, but not by minors, especially in older G rated films. The violence must be cartoonish in nature and/or minimal in quantity.

PG – Parental Guidance Suggested
Such media may contain only mild violence, language, drug references, brief nudity and/or implied or inferred sexual activity.

PG-13 – Parents Strongly Cautioned
Such media may contain moderate violence, some suggestive material and nudity, some sexual situations, brief strong language and/or soft drug use.

So I would suggest that any RP on the non-adult board here could include the features described under PG and be considered 'safe'.

Some general ideas

  • The ISS Heron has just completed its jump back into real-space when it is ambushed. The ship fights off the invaders and limps away to hide and make repairs. The captain and XO are dead, as is much of the senior crew. What happens next?

  • His name was Pierre de Lauret, Marquis of Dechamp, and aside from one small detail he was an ordinary man. The small detail? He had died three centuries earlier at the fangs of a vampiric seductress and has since been cursed to walk the night alone.

  • John Hawk is a famous explorer and adventurer, but has had no successes for the past decade and people are considering him a 'has been'. Finding obscure references to a hidden underground city containing great treasure, Hawk draws together an expedition. His goal is to find the city and reclaim his former glory.

  • Outpost KD-41 on Mars has stopped responding to communications. The first investigation team arrived at the site at the base in Cydonia, but contact was lost soon thereafter. Now the brass is sending in the best of the best to find out what is going on.

  • Kal is a gutter rat, having grown up on the streets of Accadia. Having survived as a pickpocket and thief, Kal is quick of hand, foot and wit. Even his legendary luck had to run out eventually though and he now finds himself very much in the wrong place at the wrong time...

  • It is 1350 BC and the stability of the New Kingdom is threatened following the recent ascension to the throne of Amenhotep IV. The chaos ensuing from the new Pharoah's radical reforms has left open many possibilities for enterprising minds...

  • Peter Newmand is your average kind of guy, holding down a dead-end job and falling asleep in front of the tv each night. A string of strange events in the surrounding neighbourhood has largely been ignored, but one night as Peter is about to unlock his front door he notices a beautiful woman watching him. When he turns to look, she disappears behind the next house. Curious, Peter follows after only to swiftly realise that he should have remembered how that worked out for the cat...

Games I am currently running for those in the approval process or on hold

On the Raggedy Edge is a group game set in the Firefly/Serenity universe. Everybody is welcome and if you only want to play for a short time, you are welcome to come aboard as a captive or passenger! I'm planning on running it as a drop-in, drop-out game although I hope some regulars will stick around!

BadForm

Wow, I'm really at a complete loss... I will try to come up with something, though as I hinted elsewhere, I'm so out of practice on CLEAN roleplays I'm not used to coming up with PG13 plots anymore. So far I just have a request for greater clarity on your main interest - science fiction. Specifically, do you mean Hard Science Fiction, like Schild's Ladder (no, I don't know, I looked up an example) or Sciffy like Ace Garp Trucking Co?

Specifically, I mean science fiction. I don't care if its Hard or the biggest mass of Soft handwavium this side of Star Trek...

Hey there, ebpojmr. Those are it bad starts. I can write in almost any capacity, though I am significantly weaker in things like deep historical fiction. I will be slower at responding because I suck hard at history and will have to spend time studying up on it. I'm an experienced role player. I've been at it since chat channels in diablo 2 when it first came out began to take on certain names like "Town Square" and "So and So's Tavern" I'm still testing the waters here. I'm pretty shy. But I will definitely think on possibly starting something here as I write up my application and go through the process.

IvoryTigress

And by "those are it bad starts" I really mean "those are not bad starts" ....my phone hates me.

Ah! They are just some rough ideas off the top of my head, more to help stimulate the reader's own imagination than to serve as actual things to roleplay. Not that I wouldn't roleplay them mind, its just that I'd rather tailor a game/story to the person/people I am writing with!

IvoryTigress

I do, too. I tend to come up with a world with my co-writer. I prefer a story both are excited about, rather than something cookie-cutter.

BadForm

Ok let me think over each of your suggestions Eb..

ISS Heron: looks like a group RP, though I suppose that only 2 might have survived. Looks like a fairly good sciffy romp.

The Marquis: Good basic vampire setup, but vampires really aren't my thing. Besides, a vampire is dead and I can't write necro yet since I can't access extreme...

John Hawke: Another group RP. I could be part of this but it needs others.

Outpost KD41: Another group RP. It's possible they could have sent in two specialists but unlikely. Needs other players.

Kal the Rat: Sadly I know nothing of Accadia so I'm out of this one.

New Kingdom, 1350BC: I am nobody's historian so that rules me out of this.

Curious Peter: Hmm this actually seems open to anything so I was wondering where you were going. It means me playing a female (or trans) character, but I've played women in SRPs before so not a problem. I would need more info.

It looks like of them all the only one I could play without a group of players involved would be Curious Peter. If you want me in on that one I'm down, but I need to know where you want it to go.

As I said to Ivory, they were just ideas off of the top of my head of role play/stories I could write solo, in a partnership or in a group - all while remaining under the PG13 requirement. The idea was more to represent the genre's I mentioned and promote the reader's own ideas than force them to choose from those rough concepts. As such, they were deliberately under defined. As for Accadia, I know nothing about it either as it was a name I made up for an imaginary city in an imaginary fantasy setting.

Wanders in and settles down

I am a fan of sci-fi as well as more techno savvy fare like nanotech or bionantech or even cyber tech. (Where am I going with this?) Mostly, anything with a scientific base will intrigue me enough to want to explore that particular world with a co-writer or a group. (Firefly anyone?) Because most of my best stories can go for pages (ask Ivory if you think I am kidding) without anything even remotely sexual happening, I have absolutely NO problem writing in a PG sort of way. ESPECIALLY if it is a landscape built to order in the far future.

Other big interests include urban fantasy (Think John Taylor of the Nightside) and cyber noir. (Early Gibson)

I like the idea for Curious Peter, by the by as well as the backdrop for the Vampire story. *happy sigh*

Hmm, more thought is needed.

Firefly, huh? I love that show! I'm exhausted right now, but maybe between bad, wolf and ivory, we could get a couple of games up and running tomorrow!

Also, if say wolf and bad wanted to explore the curious peter idea between themselves, I don't mind you using my ideas! This effort is all about promoting role play and writing with those in the approval process - that doesn't mean I have to be directly involved! Of course, saying that, I am honoured if you do want to write with me!

So, are we thinking a setting something like firefly's, or an OC crew in the firefly universe? Whereabouts in the timeline?

It would be utterly great to do a Firefly themed thing but I worry that others would feel left out of it.
(Personally, I would want to set it after Serenity...since this is the end of the Canon story and we could make our own process from there.)

While I would love to do an in-depth space opera type game with you I know nothing about Firefly having never seen it. Indeed I really would have difficulty playing to most televised canons these days as I no longer have a TV hookup. I kinda know Star Trek having watched episodes of original, tng, ds9, voyager, and some movies but not enough that I'd consider myself an expert. I've also sat through Star Wars movies but not for years so I'm no expert there either. I prefer to rely on original background rather than canon for this reason as I guarantee I'll get canon wrong...

Waves hello

I have that same problem with most canon as I haven't  had a TV with cable connection in years...however, I am a netflix fan and I buy a LOT of DVD's which is how I discovered Firefly.
I do prefer to play in non canon backgrounds ( far future dystopias ) BUT those sort of settings do not lend themselves as easily to PG 13 writing, at least not with my brain.

Oh, I prefer to make my own settings too, but for this kind of exercise it is simpler to use a canon setting as a framework to do our own thing within. The other option is to just improvise and wing the setting as you go, although that generally requires a lot more retroactive fixing to make things flow correctly...

Helloooooo everybody! I'm up for an rp! Anyone wanna do like where a guy (most likely me) is captured by an amazoness for certain timeskipped purposes, and the guy has to adapt and train under them to become a warrior. Lots of treasure hunting as well! anyone interested?

Heh, now that depends on who you are. If you know the canon, yes it can be easier. On the other hand, if your only knowledge of the canon is "There's some sci-fi program called Firefly" the amount of background reading you must do to participate in a single roleplay is comparatively overwhelming. The truth is, I won't be watching Firefly - not only don't I have tv anymore but I seldom use my netflix account either. Therefore, if you chose to play in that universe - and why shouldn't you after all? - then I can only with you joy and luck and step back. :)

In times like this, I try to find ways to work with my partner(s) to find a middle ground compromise.

The world of Firefly/Serenity might not be too hard to "copy" to a more generic, open-world setting as opposed to the specific "Firefly Universe."

It's not a spoiler to say that when I think of the Firefly universe, I think of a gritty, futuristic setting that blends elements of sci-fi and classic westerns. Were you to open a role-play that advertised "Space Cowboy RP", that might be more inclusive than a more specific "Firefly RP."

Two cents given. Carry on. :)

Well assuming that Space Cowboy is not, in itself, another canon (it sounds like a show title actually... possibly a good, funny, campy one) then yes, definitely. As I say, my only problem with canon is it means you need to come with previous knowledge. :)

In the context of my previous post, no - "Space Cowboy" is not the name of another cannon. ;)

It was just the best use of words I could think of to conjure the vivid image I wanted. Seems like it worked. ^.^
