Also, welcome Black Howling.
Care to share what you might be mulling?

Well, I  had been mulling over the position you had just taken, until I noticed it was of course. I'm trying to piece something else together. Possibly the tired, seen too much alcoholic mentioned in the first post. While I notice the red dinging Leader position, I'm a little leery of picking up any key roles. Those, in the past, haven't worked out for me so well on the fun factor.

Sparky01

Well, then.  I have a very good solution.
Please take claim on the "collar at any price" guy.

I took it because I thought it was needed, desired by Chrystal and meant I could play less than lead.  I can rethink my guy and actually, have a preference over not being a rule bender, but was willing to go there.

Please, continue mulling and I will rethink Chip with Chrystal's help and blessing.

Chrystal, I can go with a Lieutenant,  lead or just a good old family guy.

Either way, I can rewrite my trope accordingly.

Black Howling, provided Chrystal is ok with it, you can take that role and I am happy to accommodate having a group.

Sparky01

New charrie sheet submitted. I am jacked.  I might be slow, but it it is ok with everyone, I will run a leader.

Chrystal

Hi BlackHowking.

If EJ is okay with surrendering the "bent cop" position, then I am fine with that. Nothing is yet set in stone, and I would even be prepared to have people run two characters if they felt up to it.

Mia, the suggestion that there be a strip club across from the station, I hope you were joking? That actually comes under the category of "trying to persuade me to include some smutt". Not going to happen...

EJ, if you make a Lieutenant, he is going to be the team leader. That is clearly specified and we already discussed it... If you want the lead you can have it, but I didn't think you wanted it. There are plenty of other cop stereotypes available, besides the ones I've listed, and they can in fact be blended together to create whole new characters...

None of the stereotypes are essential to the plot.about the only one that might become essential - if the game grows to eight or more players, would be the Lt. But I will not force the role on anyone, and the game can run happily without that role. Effectively it becomes a NPC that sits in the office and lets the others do the work...

One more thing... I've been off work today with a bad stomach, hence I'm online now, but I spent most of the day in bed asleep.

(edit to add) If you're okay doing it, then fine. Personally I would rather have  more boots on the beat than bums on the seat, but I won't say no - at least not until I've seen the character.

Please check out my latest A/A post.

You mean it wasn't obvious?  :-(
If found acting like an idiot, apply Gibbs-slap to reboot system.

I noticed you already made the leader type, so I'm pretty cool to let you do that if it's what YOU want. You were here to the party first, and I could have tried to claim roles the last time I looked at this. I didn't, mainly because I wanted to see if my other projects would allow me to commit first. They have, and I'm fully capable of playing a variety of roles.

I do like your willingness to work with things to ensure the group gets going, though!

I'm working on something now, and it's crossed stereotype of sorts (While, yes, fitting the whole procedural feel). I'll send some details as soon as I've had the chance to better put them to paper. I've been kinda stuck cleaning messes, so it's not likely to be anything readable for at-least another hour. '

That said, I post fairly frequently anymore, averaging a post every two days, per character. I can play multiple characters if desired without any issues.

*Sends smut free stomach meds, and well wishes filled with good healing vibes.*

I think anyone who makes a smut free game gets the feeling everyone is being pushy, because a lot of them will be pushy at the start. I've never understood the issues, though, given they can also do a scene in the one shots to get it out of their system if they need to. That said, thanks for making a good story with focus on only the plot.

Chrystal

Something you may not be aware of, is that EJ was the lead detective last time I tried to run this. He did such a great job that I was really sorry to see him go. But always, real life must come first.

Oh and by the way, He is sworn to secrecy regarding the plot. Not that anyone got even close to solving the murder last time...

I have Mr. By-the-Book, overworked perfectionist queued up and approved by Chrystal pending edits.

I would guess this guy will be a boots on the ground person.  I don't want to complicate any matters.  Still flexible.  Edits are easy.  My guy will be up later today unless some shifting of role needs is desired from me.

.... oh, and thank you Chrystal.  It was a bummer to leave.
I am stoked to play.

I thought you were going for the Leader, not the "by the book perfectionist"? Of course they can be rolled into one, but the way you made it sound was that you'd changed your mind again

I thought he was a leader, who is a by the book perfectionist.   That was my vision.

Ahhhhh, just saw that listed as a role.  He is an inspirational leader that minds the procedures.  Lol.

Not the rules nazi.  :)

Chrystal

yeah, the rules Nazi is listed separately. Doesn't have to be there, but the dynamic between that character and the one that bends the rules to get results - who is different again from the slightly bent cop - would be interesting to explore...

Character Name: Michael Holiday

Player ID: Ehlamjanx

Rank: Detective-Liutenant

Age: 46

Role: The firm but fair leader

Appearance: Liutenant Holiday is a 23 year UPD man.  He is of average height and in very good physical condition.  He has peircing eyes and is often wearing a down to business expression.

Personality: A seasoned veteran of the force, Holiday takes on his job very seriously.  He is a logical, rational professional.   He has been around the force and through the ranks in a long and very disciplined career.  He pushes his team towards greatness and expects excellence to always be acheived.  He is famous for the use of the phrase, "our sworn duty to serve and protect", and knows some mock him jokingly for gravitating to it.  He can be warm, but it is not frequent that he is.

At the age of 46, he believes he has one more big promotion in front of him.  He is a career cop and puts the brotherhood of service at the forefront of his mind at all times.  So dedicated, he is also the Vice President of the Fraternal Order of Police chapter of Ubiquitous, his primare means of social interaction.  He is a very disciplined man who leans heavily to the work side of any work/life balance equation.

History: Holiday grew up in a small town that is on the far outskirts of the Ubiquitous Metro area.  He had a good and happy childhood.  He is the younger of two sons born to hard working parents.  His father a mechanic, his mother an accountant.   He and his brother, along with several neighborhood kids grew up in the woods, playing and building forts.  Their dad was a sportsman and taught the boys how to hunt, fish and camp.  He was young among the neighborhood kids looked up to the bigger kids, learning how to be tough from hanging with them.  He played sports, was popular and a good student.

After high-school, he attended community college and took up pre-law as an undergraduate.  Law school, he learned, required more studying than he had an appetite for.  By that time he was dating and serious with his girlfriend and enjoying sports.  He decided instead to enter the police academy where he did very well.  The role of cop suited him.  His undergraduate degree helped him rise through the ranks.  He became a Detective by the time he was 28, Senior Detective by 31 and has been a Detective -Sargent  by age 34.  His promotion to Liutenant was 6 years ago.

He is the father of four, two boys and two girls, the oldest is a senior and ready for college.  His wife works as the secretary of the high school most of them attend.  He has a good and busy life outside of work with his children.  A dedicated family man, he  is genuinely in love with his wife and as active in the lives of his children as he can be given his exceasive work schedule.  He is a very protective father and takes crimes against children deeply to heart after witnessing crime scenes involving the young and innocent.

The Dobson Case:  The symbolic moment that molded him into a bit of a hard-ass cop with a relentless pusuit for a clean case came from an experience when 'good enough' just wasnt quite actually good enough.  Rachel Dobson, a sweet trusting innocent teenager died tragically of an overdose that followed a date-rape drug style of abduction some 10 years ago.  It was a disturbing case in which the victim reminded him deeply of his daughter.  By his own emotional involvement, he had grown fond of the girl's parents and had stated to them how solid their case was. The perpetrator was a sick and twisted young man with no place in society.  During the trial, he provided a fair and accurate testimony on the witness stand.  What came out of the testimony from his perspective was a clear and convincing case that pointed directly to the certain guilt of the man who had all but confessed.  Yet the facts that had clearly added up to guilt had been picked apart by the vaguest of shadows of doubts that bordered on the absurd.  The case was cobbled together with the best that they had, and there was plenty, or so he believed.  The defense zeroed in on certain circumstantial evidence and a set of possible explanations were implausible, impractical and practically impossible, but still "possible".

The not guilty verdict was, in his mind, a failure to be thorough and have a buttoned up case.  It lead to a guilty man walking away a free man with a sweet child in a coffin.  He has never forgotten the Dobson case, nor has he forgotten how those parents looked at him and his team, so disbelieving and betrayed in court that day.

He could never right that wrong, but he could make sure nothing similar would happen again.  Since then, there has been an 8x10 portrait of the late Rachel Dobson on his desk.  He looks at her picture when he needs inspiration to strive harder and go the extra mile for the innocent victims that count on him.

His file contains many in service awards and he can be accurately referred to as a 'decorated officer' and a role model of police work.

Other:  The player may not be as good as the character on crime solving.

What cop shows do you watch regularly: Law and Order.  NCIS.  Person of Interest.  Criminal Minds.  Reno 911.

I thought I recognised him. Tim Roth, star of Lie To Me. Often mistaken for an American actor because he is really good at doing accents!

If he's too...."oooohhhh, that guy...." I can swap him.

I have always admired him from Resivoir Dogs, Rob Roy and Pulp Fiction, too.  I am not a movie buff but I admit a man crush on him.

EJ, please stop being so sensitive. If I wanted you to change the picture I would have told you already!

Absolutely nothing wrong with Tim Roth

:)  Chanelling his personality will be an inspiration for writing :)

I'm considering playing the bitter cop whose partner was just killed.

I know you said no SWAT specialists, but what about someone who tried and failed to complete the required training before switching over to Homicide as a Detective?

NO!

This is a small mid-west town, not Los Angeles!

There is no SWAT team.

I love this concept but do not think I will have the time to write with you, fine folks. Please post a link to the game when it is up, I would enjoy following along.
