Superhero Game (Can be Marvel, if wanted?)

So, recently I was reading this list: http://perrymoorestories.com/content/hero.asp?id=superheroes

And I kept thinking to myself about how it's true: there has never really been a truly successful superhero that's been gay. So I thought it would be fun to do an RP that looks at the idea of those difficulties.

The general idea is that it would be a (preferably) structured game, using some system that I'm sure someone on here is familiar with that translates well to a modern day superhero theme, with the central theme being the struggle faced by superheroes/mutants that don't exactly fit into the traditional mold, but do the best they can anyway.

Yeah, it's kind of a cliche. But I think it sounds fun, anyway. It could be sexual, at times. It could be violent. Gays, Lesbians, Straights, Transgenders, all are welcome. (No one said it had to be just about homosexual struggles. :S)

I'm too much of a newb to run it, I think, so if anyone is interested in doing that, I would really appreciate it.

Mathim

This sounds like it could be fun. Could it include super people (not necessarily 'heroes') who came from rough backgrounds where, like, they become prostitutes and strippers, maybe even a pimp?
Considering a permanent retirement from Elliquiy, but you can find me on Blue Moon (under the same username).

Tsume

Sure!

It would make sense that people who get stuck with various powers don't all go the "cape and spandex" route.

Mathim

Maybe some pornstars in theme costumes, too! This could be fun. Yeah, count me in if any females are interested.

Give it an image/topcow spin and you'll have my interest.

Tsume

Sadly, I don't have any experience with either of those properties.

What are you looking for?

Elohim

Their comics are a bit darker and grittier,  with more of a focus on the supernatural then say Marvel or DC.   I think Spawn sort of represents they're particular style decently enough.

To Phantom: Do two!!!

To Seraph: Well, I mean, make your character and their backstory as gritty/supernatural as you want.

And there will definitely be room for discussion on which direction the story goes, once I'm sure that there will be people to play/run it.

Kolbrandr

To ask, are you thinking of doing this freeform? With a system? Would kinda prefer the latter.

Tsume

I would like to run this as system, since I've never actually done so in an Online capacity and it seems pretty fun.

Do you know of any system that would be good to use?

Kolbrandr

The second edition of mutants and masterminds I find to be one of the better ones for playing out supers gaming in a way that's fairly clean and uncomplicated, but allows for modelling.. pretty much any concept really, if you have access to it?

Anyway, pending some kind of setting/someone wanting to run, would certainly like to play.

Tsume

Excellent. :)

Now if only we could find someone to run it . . .

Kolbrandr

That tends to be the issue most of these things collapse on, yeah..

I could ::gasp:: run ::gasp:: a MNM2E adventure once every week ::gasp!::  and we could have a bo--

I think you just said "no." But I'm not sure.

I'm going to assume "no."

Okay.

I've decided that I need to get some GMing under my belt.  I -would- like to run a game.  We'll try it out for one session.  If I like, then it'll stay.

Someone start a thread of character creations and bios.

The following is not set in stone:

M&M2E, PL 10, PP 150, no more than two complications; we'll meet up Monday Nights 6 p.m. EST.  ALL abilities available, but know that ultra-powerful characters will soon find themselves fighting against their ultra-nemesis.

And.  No Wide Arrays!

Also!  I don't want this to be set in the Marvel Universe.  If anything, it will be a blend of Top Cow/Astro Comics.

Well, I understood . . . most of that.  I'll let you take this on over.

And I'll probably need some help .  . . but I'll set up a thread for character bios.

PhantomPistoleer

Post wherever.  I don't know in what direction you want to go with this, so it's up to you.

I think I'm going to use the world that I've described in my GENEX superhero RP.  You can check out that information in my o/o.  Don't be afeared, though;  I will not be using any PCs (or making my NPC look really good-- unless I use Conqueror as a villain, and that would be really mean!).

As for the setting:  San Francisco.

All of you should be independent superheroes (but I will allow cohabitation between you, i.e., room mates, lovers, etc., that creates a loose affiliation);  all of you should at least know of each other, unless of course one of you is VERY new to the game (like, you just got your powers yesterday).  I'm not a bigot, but please understand that if you're specifically a gay male superhero, or you're a straight superhero and associate with a gay superhero, the public will NOT receive you well (but it won't be so bad if you're in San Fran!).

To create a sense of camaraderie between heroes, I ask that everyone get together with everyone else and create a web of previous adventures.  All superheroes must at least have 3 previous adventures with each other superhero.

For example:

Superhero 1 and 2 both stopped a bank robbery.
Superhero 1 and 2 also prevented the mayor from being captured.
Superhero 1, 2 and 3 both captured a domestic terrorist.

The web between superhero 1 and 2 is fulfilled; they have three previous adventures.  However, the web between superhero 1 and 3 is only a third-way fulfilled.

I hope to have at least 3 players, but  no more than five!

Also, please, please, please let one of those players be a woman!
