By now everyone knows the story...

The Arklay Mountains Outbreak was the first reported outbreak of the T-virus. And as horrifying and disastrous as that outbreak was, it was also unrelated to the later Raccoon City Outbreak which proved even worse in scope and consequences. If one follows the timeline leading up to both outbreaks they find that both events seem almost fated to have happened, with several examples of what appear to be the most unfortunate string of coincidences and accidents imaginable.

But what if these events were not fated? What if the events that took place in 1998 were simply the result of several coincidences? And what if one of these small, seemingly unimportant turning points in history were to change?

Then perhaps history itself would also change. But for the better? Or for the worse? Only time can tell...

OOC

Alright...... This is my idea thread for a non-cannon game set in a slightly altered version of the Resident Evil universe. Now before you read any further you should know that when I say non-cannon I don't only mean that players will play non-cannon characters. I also mean that the actions taken by the players' characters can (and most likely will) alter the events of the history of a major event(s) within the Resident Evil universe. As for how that history is changed...that is entirely up to the characters' actions. SO basically I'm proposing a game that offers players the ability to actually have a 'real' effect on the course of events in Resident Evil history.

IF this concept is something that upsets you/violates everything you love about Resident Evil. You probably shouldn't join this game. BUT if you're like me and think this concept is quite intriguing, then please read a bit more, see if this game is for you. And if it in fact is, voice some interest by posting something along the lines of "I'm interested" in this thread(or by posting a character). AND as always any questions and/or comments are welcome!

The Basics

First off, I'll be going by the video game universe as opposed to the movie one. Simply because I grew up on the games and they to me are the true Resident Evil.

I've got a long term story, taking part over several chapters, in mind for this game. Each one of these chapters will cover a different major event in the history of the Resident Evil universe for instance the first chapter will cover the Mansion Incident. The exact make up/format of each chapter will most likely vary greatly from the next. Simply because each one will not only tell a different story, but a different kind of story as well. Some chapters will be short, others will be long. With that in mind I'll be treating each chapter as a different game, with its own thread, that will be started once the previous chapter has finished.

For example, players who play in the first chapter will be more than welcome in the second, and if more characters are needed the recruitment thread will be re-opened for the 2nd chapter.

What You Can Expect

You can expect everything that has made the Resident Evil game series a success, such as zombies, suspense, mystery, in depth stories and characters, and even puzzles that the players will have to solve using their characters. These puzzles may be very easy or very hard, but will not be game breaking and if the players get snagged anywhere along the line I'll be more than willing to give hints/answers...though running to the gm for help may have some IC consequences later on   >:)

Characters&NPCs

I'm going to ask that player characters for all the chapters be 100% original, the can obviously be inspired by whoever you like but please don't simply carbon copy any cannon characters.

As far as NPCs go, players can expect to run into both original, and cannon characters.

The Chapters

Chapter 1 The Mansion Incident
July 24, 1999, a number of grisly murders have taken place on the outskirts the Arklay Mountains and forest surrounding the Midwestern town of Raccoon City.  Victims were attacked in their homes by a group of assailants with evidence of cannibalism. Baffled by the strange nature of the cases, the Raccoon City Police Department has sent in the S.T.A.R.S. Charlie team. Their mission was to investigate the mysterious events taking place near and in the woods.

All contact with the Charlie team has been lost. After two days of no with their compatriots, Alpha Team has been mobilized to find out what happened...
(The specifics of this chapter will be explained further below)

Chapter 2The Birkin Situation
William Birkin is a top biologist working for the Umbrella Corporation and is responsible for the discovery of the G-virus and development of the G-virus project. He was promoted in 1988 to lead the "t" project. He has recently completed his development of the G-virus and our sources tell us that he had previously planned on using his final research in order to be promoted into Umbrella's executive board.

However,  a series of disagreements with his superiors have caused suspicion amongst the executive board that he plans on keeping his research to himself and selling it to the U.S. Government. One of our sources within the government informs us that he has requested to have the U.S. military intervene and retrieve him. This cannot be allowed...
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, will involve new player characters who did not take part in Chapter 1. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 1)

Chapter 3The Raccoon City Outbreak
September 22, 1999. Another viral outbreak involving the t-virus has occurred. In the process of Umbrella's attempts to retrieve a sample of the G-virus from William Birkin vials containing the "G" and T-viruses were dropped, releasing them into the sewers. This led to the sewer rats to ingesting the virus and spreading them to the surface.

As of the 24th of September, the city is reported to be in total chaos. Requiring the US Army to attempt to stabilize the situation. Umbrella has dispatched their Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service (UBCS) to assist the police, but in reality, Umbrella officials have called for an evacuation of the city, placing high priorities on key, essential members. With the aim of using the UBCS to insure that no important assets are lost.
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, and will be open to both new player characters and those previous characters who took part in Chapter 1. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 2)

Chapter 4No Loose Ends
September 28th, 1999. The Umbrella Corporation, seeking to keep the Raccoon City Outbreak from being a complete and total loss has decided to use the chaos of the Raccoon City outbreak hunt down and kill anyone within Raccoon City who has proven to be a thorn in the corporation's side since the original Arklay Mountains outbreak. They have deployed several different forms of weapons and 'projects'  to achieve this end while also collecting valuable research data.
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, and will be open to new player characters as well as any previous from Chapters 1,2 and 3 who have not yet exited Raccoon City. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 3)

Chapter 5Rockfort Island Situation
Rockfort Island is an Umbrella owned and administered private island located somewhere south of the equator. Rockfort Island's main purpose is operating as both an illegal prison camp, which is currently holding several high value enemies of Umbrella who were captured during and after the Raccoon City outbreak, and para-military training facility for the corporation. Rockfort is administered by Alfred Ashford, whose father was a researcher for and whose grandfather a co-founder of Umbrella Inc. Besides the prison and training facility the island also features a small but lavish palace for hosting of dignitaries, a private residence for Alfred and his sister Alexia, and Several laboratories and B.O.W. storehouses.

So long as the Rockfort facility remains operational Umbrella's future is all but assured by their compiled research data and their large numbers of B.O.W.s ready for immediate sale. With this in mind an unnamed rival of Umbrella is currently preparing to launch an attack on the facility. Exactly who will take part in this attack, what their objectives are, and what effects their actions will have is currently unknown.
(This game will be open to any and all players interested, and will be open to new player characters as well as any previous from Chapters 1 and 3 who survived Raccoon City. Further specifics of this chapter will be revealed at the end of chapter 4)

Chapter 6In The Daylight/I The Rain
The final chapter...the events of this chapter  more than any will be decided by the accumulated actions, decisions, successes, and failures of the player characters through out the previous chapters. As such everything from it's title, to the exact make up of the game will remain a secret until it is time for the chapter to be set up.

The Mansion Incident
Specifics

If you're still reading I'm assuming you're interested ;D. And if such is the case then here is what you'll need to take part in the first chapter of the game.

For this game I'm looking for between 3-6 other players to take on the roles of members of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team who have been sent to locate Charlie team. It should be noted that the timeline for this game is slightly altered (taking place a year later than that of the actual cannon Resident Evil events). This is to allow a bit more plausibility for the small changes that I'll be needing to make to the Resident Evil universe (such as their being a 3rd S.T.A.R.S. team) in order to keep this game feeling 'new' and avoid it simply being a re-make of stories that have already been told.

Limited Freeform
The game will be what I like to call limited freeform, this means that there will be no system used but there will be some limits placed on the character creation process (specifically on character's abilities and equipment) in order to maintain realism. In addition to this I ask that when players make posts relating to their interacting with NPCs/enemies they do not mod/control the world around their character. For example illustrating your character shooting at a zombie should go something like "my character shoots at the zombie, aiming for it's head' rather than "my character shoots at the zombie and hits it in the head."  The reason I ask for this is that it will allow me (as gm) to control the action without having to bring in an actual system.

Team Position
Personality
Bio
Equipment
-Primary Weapon:
-Secondary Weapon:
-Tertiary Weapon:
-Additional Equipment:
-Ammunition Level:
Skills (Explained a bit more below)

Equipment
I'm not going to make any solid limits on equipment and skills other than what follows.

As I'm sure you noticed if you've already read the character sheet, there are several sub-categories listed under the Equipment slot. This is to help illustrate the fact that the characters who will be played in this chapter are highly armed police officers. Each character is allowed 3 weapons at game start. The first is a primary weapon, such as a shotgun, automatic rifle, sniper rifle, ect. The second is a secondary weapon such as a pistol or revolver and the third is a hold out weapon such as a knife, stun gun, police baton, ect. All players need to fit their weapon choices into these categories.

Also listed under Equipment are your character's ammunition level and additional equipment. Additional equipment are things such as lock picking tools, first aid kits, ect. I ask that all players try to be as realistic as possible when deciding what extra equipment their characters will have, and also bear in mind that I reserve the right as GM to ask any player to alter their equipment or skills if I feel that their character is unrealistically powerful.

As far as ammunition level goes, this will be a representation of the level of ammunition your character has overall. It will be listed as either High, Moderate, Low, or Empty depending on your character's ammunition state. It is something that I will control and all you need to do for now is list it as "moderate"

Skills
These are the things your character is good at/trained to do. Such as lock picking, first aid, tracking, piloting aircraft, ect. Once again I ask all players to simply follow the rules of realism when deciding their character's skills and to bear in mind that I will ask anyone who's character is unrealistically skilled to alter their list of skills.

I am... so very interested in this!

Though the description doesn't really specify anything, so I suppose I should just ask. What is one to expect in terms of adult content? Just violence? I'm pretty interested regardless, but it's probably good to know. I can totally apply for that second in command slot :D or any one of the team members xD
O/O: I was going to make a barebones F-list as a rough summary, but then it logged me out and I lost my progress, so I made a VERY barebones F-list instead: Here.

Laughing Hyena

Considering Operation Raccoon City is fast approaching and since I love the RE series then I want in.

Urbanzorro

Glad to have you both aboard.

@Finn MacKenna: To answer your questions,  there will be violence on the scale that you'd expect from any Resident Evil game. With regards to adult content, I'm going to leave it as a possibility but not a necessity. This means that there won't be any zombie/hunter/licker rape scenes going on but if characters do wind up finding the time for some romance (possibly while resting in a safe room ect) that's perfectly acceptable. There may also be some nc scenes involving human NPCs but that will obviously be more situational than anything else.

I am in as one of the team member if you need the second in command.

Latooni Subota

Hmm. I normally prefer to play civilians/obligatory repentant Umbrella scientists in RE games . . . but I guess I'm down for being the Alpha team medic.

I'm also interested in playing also :D Not entirely sure which role as of yet.

How is this for an application, btw? Warning, big picture incoming.

Name Rin Tachibana
Age 19
Team Position Medic

Personality
Rin is generally a kind and empathetic individual, always one to suggest nonlethal and diplomatic routes if at all possible. If they can get through a situation safely without having to kill anyone, she's happy. Still, she accepts that in this line of work killing is necessary, and follows orders properly . . . though not without a grumble or two in private later. As the youngest member of STARS she tries her best to not lag behind everyone, despite being the least physically able of the group. She has a bit of a 'follower' nature, and tends to take commands from above as word of law, assuming it's not something absolutely crazy like "shoot yourself in the foot". She also has a BIT of a thing for authority figures . . . but she keeps that under wraps.

Bio
Rin is a Raccoon City native, and the only child of a Japanese immigrant and the american woman he met while on a business trip. Growing up she was the sort of person that could fit-in well in any social group, as well as a good student, to the point of jumping ahead a couple of grades early on. Like her mother, after graduating from high school she went to Raccoon City College and studied law enforcement, making up for a lack in strength with her good eyes and fine motor control. Easily making it through the necessary courses she managed to enter the RCPD on a trial basis at the age of 17, where she showed interest in taking medical specialization courses to be of more use in the field. In two years she quickly garnered attention as an eager-to-learn, and exemplary officer, if not a bit naive. When the medic for STARS Alpha Team retired due to injury, she was chosen due to being the next officer in the city that had the minimum amount of skill, and specialized medical training. Needless to say, Rin is damn proud of being the youngest member of STARS. Her family is currently on vacation back in Japan, visiting her father's side of the family.

Equipment
-Primary Weapon: Daewoo KP7 Submachinegun (9mm 30-round magazine. Single, 3-round, full auto modes. Suppressor.)
-Secondary Weapon: Model 617 S&W Revolver (.22 LR, 10 rounds)
-Tertiary Weapon: King Cobra Stun Gun
-Additional Equipment: Light TAC Vest, Large First Aid Kit
-Ammunition Level: Moderate

Skills
First Aid+
Most people get a little bit of first aid training. Rin has full training in expanded first aid. Basically everything she could learn through specialized training without actually going to a medical college to be a doctor.

Good Eyes
Rin has VERY good eyes, possibly one of the reasons she was admitted into STARS at her age. She can pick out fine details at longer ranges than most people, which is also the reason why she's pretty good with a small firearm. Odds are if something is a little 'off' in an area, she'll be the first to spot it.

Light Arms Specialization
Rin is only really good with small arms. With a handgun-type weapon, and standing still, she's extremely accurate. She's less accurate when using sustained fire weapons (such as her KP7 in full auto), and even less accurate when on the move. Don't even think about heavy weapons!

Silk

I'm trying to think of different roles, resulting in deciding on what one I'd like to play xD I would kind of like to play the second, I just don't think I could do the role any justice.

Other potential roles I've thought of so far...

Pointman/recon
pilot
mechanic
communications
grunt
forensic specialist
animal handler (not that we would have animals on this one, but could lead to things like animal empathy skill or animal biology)

Will add more as it comes to mind.

Florence

Glad to see this has interest! I'll get to work on a character ASAP!
O/O: I was going to make a barebones F-list as a rough summary, but then it logged me out and I lost my progress, so I made a VERY barebones F-list instead: Here.

Annie

“Fairy Tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” - G. K. Chesterton

Silk

Name Bethany "Beth" Campbell
Age:21
Team Position Pilot/Field Mechanic
PersonalityBethany is a gearhead, being under a bonnet was her happy place, wary around others because of her history, but she appreciates her team and respects them greatly. Because of her history she is largely de-sensatised to most situations and is somewhat expectant of her teammates to be the same. Not that she is unsympatheic, but if they can't hack the grime of this job, which her's are usually covered in, why are they here? Although she has somewhat of a soft spot for those younger than her, sort of seeing herself as an older sister to them and trying to shield them from the worst of what the job has to offer.
Bio Bethany, unlike the rest of Alpha team, was the last person you would see working in  law enforcement. More often than not they were actually at odd's with eachother due to Beth's shadey history of car theft, chop shopping and joyriding. When she was finnaly caught up with, the racoon police department gave her a choice, community service or a prison sentence. It was an obvious choice.

Over time Beth showed a impressive aptitude towards machinery being able to get out of commision police cars back on patrol in a small ammount of time. Eventually when she turned 18 she impressed them enough to offer her a job. Where she took all of the available driving courses, especially those in fast persuit. Often getting where she was needed in record time, because of this, she was refered to the S.T.A.R.S's team where fast response times could mean life or death.

Although Beth is a bit of a genius when it comes to mechanics and piloting she has only taken basic training in firearms, showing a competency with light weapons such as the handgun, opting to carry two such weapons instead of carrying a larger weapon which is usually stowed in the cockpit of the teams vehicle, gathering dust.
Equipment
-Primary Weapon: FN Five-seveN semi automatic handgun
-Secondary Weapon: FN Five-seveN semi automatic handgun
-Tertiary Weapon: Tonfa
-Additional Equipment: Tool kit(small), Pilot helmet, Kevlar vest, Radio.
-Ammunition Level: Moderate
Skills
Gearhead: Beth has a affinity and a lot of experience in mechanic's which allow's her to have an understanding of how most machines run, even if it is just an educated geuss. Varying from standard maintainence to hotwiring a car she likes the look of.

Piloting: Beth has had training in piloting helicopter's and in persuit vehicles.

Ambidexterous: When faced with multiple targets, beth can pull out her second pistol and fire at both. But it makes reloading a nightmare.

Latooni Subota

Jeez, could you use a crazier handgun ammo? The FN Five-seveN handguns and their crazy AP ammo. Gotta love those things. XD

Still interested and I have my comp back so Im gonna make a character. As for Annie, though I don't speak for Zorro I see no reason why you cannot try and put up a character. Cant hurt yer chances. :-)

Silk: Yeah, that pistol? It fires armor-piercing rifle ammo (admittedly, it's not QUITE rifle ammo for the pistols, but still.) It's pretty awesome stuff!

Just to clarify, I accept people to this, and any other of my games, on a basis of when their character is posted rather than when interest is stated. Simply because I've had several games where people claim interest and aregive a spot then never create a character.

Also, Silk your character looks great and is accepted. I'll update the list once I'm off of work

I am interested and I will try to make a Chara as soon as possible. I want to state that I have not exactly played a game but only a few attempts but that I do have a guy friend who kicks-A at the game and can help me with anything I may lack in.
I'm a college student so my mornings are normally taken in the week and Tuesday an Friday nights I have extra classes.
I'll try my best to respond everyday, hehe.
I'll work on a Chara and post as soon as possible!  :D
They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, "Search for Paradise."
