Attention, eligible spacers, navigators, mechanics and engineers! The Laughing Dianoga, Wayfarer-class medium transport (Imperial Bureau of Ships and Services official designation TR77-114BHB-LR40) is currently seeking to take on new crew in all positions to run cargo along the Perlemian Trade Route. To apply, please contact Captain Dunn Mar. Jedi need not apply.

The notice gleams on the holo-board at bars and cantinas all across the Outer Rim- someone needs a crew, and they need it badly. Anywhere the Laughing Dianoga has been, the captain has left behind the same message- credits to those who would follow. The name Dunn Mar might be an unfamiliar one to most, but the Laughing Dianoga has a bit of a reputation of its own in certain circles. The humble Wayfarer had once been an active player in the smuggling scene along the Perlemian Trade Route almost twenty years past, but more recent tales of it had slowed down to barely a trickle. If this really was the same ship, the captain must be new to it- which might explain why he needs a crew.

Welcome, one and all! I am currently seeking 3-6 players to embark on an adventure through the Star Wars universe. Taking the role of smugglers, the group would essentially be interacting with each other on a regular basis while they perform their various cargo hauls and smuggling runs,  which I think could create plenty of room for exciting relationships. I only enforce a few simple rules-

 • No God Modding- The Cardinal Rule of RP really, but it's worth stating. Always leave room for other players to react to what you do, don't just state how they react to your action directly.
 • Spelling and Grammar- Now, I will not be expecting perfect grammar or spelling. I personally do most of my posting from a tablet, and am prone to missing when the device auto-corrects me or I otherwise make a mistake, but I generally spell check each post before submitting it. Additionally, when posting, I try my hardest to make sentences that follow the general rules of grammar, but this isn't as big as the spelling issue.
 • Post Length- I do not enforce a post length, but generally I expect about a paragraph in response- gauge your partners, if they wrote 3 paragraphs, give them more than a one-sentence response.
 • Post Frequency- like post length, I don't really police this too hard, but for the sake of your fellow players, I request that only players who can commit to 2-3 posts a week should apply. Slow responses can really bog down a game, and if it's found that the game is moving faster that you are, please let me know and we'll see what needs to be done.
Outside of that, that's pretty much all there is too it. I'll be taking the role of Dunn Mar, the new captain of the Laughing Dianoga, and will provide his character description below. Additionally, please use the skeleton below to format your character applications so that everyone can be more easily read and appropriately judged. This will not be a first-come, first-serve game, but will rather have more to do with how the new players will fit the party dynamic. All genders and sexualities are welcome!

Crew Members:

My Character-
Name: Dunn Mar
Gender: Male
Species: Human (Coruscanti)
Crew Position: Captain/Pilot
Personality: Dunn is, at his best, a strong-willed and capable pilot and negotiator, and trusting to boot. At his worst, however, he's stubborn and hot-headed, and sometimes his trust in others lands him in hot water. He has a self-professed weakness for "strays and runaways," and is always interested in making a quick couple credits.
Background: Born in the Coruscant under-city, Dunn spent the first half of his life completely unaware of what the sky looked like, and had no interest in the stars. At age 16, he and his friends snuck aboard a short-range cargo hauler that took them to Anaxes, where they got their first look at the outside world. Feeling that first jolt as they entered into hyperspace, Dunn found himself unable to resist the call of the stars, and began saving his money to leave Coruscant behind. Once he had enough money, he chartered a ship to the Outer Rim and began doing odd jobs, until he came into a vessel of his own, the Laughing Dianoga, in a game of chance.
Description/Picture: Dunn Mar

Name: Your name
Gender: Your gender
Species: Are you human or alien?
Crew Position: What do you do on the ship? Medic? Co-pilot? Gunner?
Personality: A brief description will do.
Background: Likewise, a brief description is enough
Description/Picture: Either a short description of your physical appearance, a picture of your character, or both.

Interest placed. :)

I'll work on a bit of a character sheet and maybe have it up tonight/tomorrow. :) Using my old Rodian character, as mentioned previously. :)

Erg. I should SO not get myself involved in another group game. But I've had one flame out before start, and two more are taking a while to get off the ground. So: tentative interest.

I know you want to go non-system, which is fine by me, but are you going to try to set up set roles for characters, and some sort of limited skills list or something?

Name: 'Shard'
Gender: Female
Species: Human (Unknown Homeworld)
Crew Position: Medic

Personality:
Generally honest and optimistic.
Worryingly good at lying, and there's something very wrong about how she holds a scalpel.
Has an affinity for droids.

Background:
A young stray that with a minor reputation among starship captains as an albatross.
Claims to be an orphan. Has no (valid) official documentation of any kind.
Speaks an unusually large number of languages.
Has worked on many ships as a medic/doctor; while her performance has always been exemplary, the vessels all met undesirable fates (which she avoided sharing).
She deflects questions about the source of her extensive medical training, and becomes uncharacteristically agitated when pressed.
Becomes extremely agitated when asked about 'September'.

Description/Picture:

Name: Melina Sprint
Gender: Female
Species: Human (Corellian)
Crew Position: Background NPC

Personality:
Confident and assured. Knows what she wants and that she'll get it.

Background:
An experienced not-smuggler, known badass, and captain of the Vermilion Limit.
Appears to be an old friend of Shard's. Does not work with her, although it's unclear if this is her decision or Shard's.
Probably knows what 'September' is, but isn't talking.

Description/Picture:

I figure this is probably best suited for Light/BDSM with the option for exotic-type characters. Beyond that, based on player interest, we have the option to go into NC, if people want to have run-ins with unscrupulous Imperial agents or rival gangs or what-have-you. I'm not a stranger to NC games, but I will likely avoid them unless the majority is up for it.

WhatLiesAbove

Name: Teh'kuno
Gender: Female
Species: Alien-Twi'lek
Crew Position: Mechanic
Personality: Quiet, very soft-spoken. Tries to be outspoken, but is definitely submissive despite her attempts to be forthcoming and strong.
Background: Teh'kuno is the unfortunate escapee of a Hutt slave house. Like many twi'leks, she had ended up being captured and sold off to a Hutt gang lord named Breevo. While growing up, Teh always seemed to be tinkering with things....droids, cameras, door locks. Breevo's head of security noticed early that the young twi'lek girl had a knack for mechanical things. And so he had her taught to become one of the best tinkerers on Hutta.

Throughout her life, she got the opportunity to work on a plethora of space craft....from simple speeders to Imperial escort ships. She often kept herself covered in grease, which in turned helped to keep her off of stages and down in the bilges of pleasure barges.

At 17, Teh'kuno escaped from Breevos clutches, by stealing one of his smaller craft. It landed her on Tatooine, where she was able to vanish, until seeing the advertisement for a need of crew for the Laughing Dainoga.
Description/Picture: Despite having a body to die for, Teh'kuno has done her level best to hide her looks under baggy mechanics clothes and grease. She is a true gear head, though the horrors she faced as a child are still seemed fresh in her mind, leaving her with a rather reserved smile.

Alright, a reasonably complete character is up.

The NPC character is there mostly 'cause I couldn't decide between the two images. She's intended as a tool the GM can use as much or as little as they want.

Need to clip her on better...

And also:

Name: Sha'Haine Borell

Gender: F

Species: Alien- Mirialan

Crew Position: Gunner and gunbunny

Personality: Unlike most Mirialans, who are quiet and meditative, 'Shae' is bubbly, outgoing, a bit of a ditz- and has a passion for weapons and things that go 'boom'. She also has a passionate hatred for slavers- not from personal experience, she will hasten to add, but just because it's wrong. Her race's connection to the Force expresses in her as a 'creepy feeling' when there are Force users nearby, and an almost uncanny luck as a shooter.

Background: Shae is still pretty young, and hasn't seen that much of the Galaxy, as her tattoos indicate to those who can read them. Irrepressable and undisciplined, she wasn't a good fit for military service, and her Force-sensitivity is fairly minor for one of her race, so she ultimately drifted into work as a security officer for trade delegations.  The constant talk bored her, though, so she jumped ship to look for something more exciting.  Running a trade route on an obsolete ship wasn't quite what she was looking for, but her money was running out, so she went back to doing what she knew best: shooting the kark out of anyone who got in the way of a deal.

Description/Picture:  Quite slender- it's a going joke that her guns are a lot bigger than she is. Keeps her hair pulled back sharply into a tight queue.
Instead of obsessing on the person you want to be, focus on who you DON'T want to be. It's much easier to not do certain things than to break your head on some ideal of yourself.

I'm loving the submissions so far, i think we'll have a hoot of a crew.

@Chi- yeah, I'm fine with droids generally speaking, and as far as era goes, I was thinking either somewhere in the 16-11 BBY range (post-RotS, pre-ANH) or something in the space between ESB and RotJ- the Empire is always a fun adversary, and I think those two time periods offer *just* the right level of instability to get away with a lot of hijinks.

gonna throw my hat in on this one. Every SW game ive come across hasnt worked out thus far. Looking at a Squib engineer/supply. His idea of engineering however is basically juryrigging  :P so the reel engineer will either hate or love him.

wander

I'm going to claim Astrogator as the ship role, is it cool to be back-up pilot also?

On the job they're best suited for support sniping and generally doing sneaky things where the crew needs someone who won't be caught or can fib their way into places they're not supposed to be.

I'm highly considering using the pic of the Rodian I posted above as my face-claim, as they seem to have most of the gear my boy actually has on him. :)

Landshark

Name: Farradin Rosis
Gender: Male
Species: Alien-Squib
Crew Position: Quartermaster/supply and emergency engineer
Personality: Farradin is energetic to say the least. Always moving and talking in rapid spurts. He is chatty and annoying to most people as he will bug anyone about anything for pretty much any reason. His almost childlike attitude hides a shrewd and industrious business man. Not a thief but will come into possession of things people didn't realize they had given him. Mostly fearless he has no qualms with dealing with just about anyone or anything…except Ugors… he hates Ugors…their dirty thieves.
Background: Farradin was born on a mostly abandoned space station that got few visitors. As such he grew up knowing that everything had a price and a value. Just because you didn't have a need for 10k huck bolts didn't mean you didn't need them. Eventually his talent for finding and having the right stuff at the right time earned him a free trip off the station. From there he has leap frogged from one ship to the next using his skill and luck to keep one bucket of bolts flying after another.

Bleh. Speaking of Stormtroopers, them being such a joke has always been one of my pet peeves. They're supposed to be the elite fighting force of a galactic empire. What most players should be facing off against should be Imperial Army troopers and even then that should be worrying.

To use a semi-real-world analogy, if the PCs are smugglers and rebels (drug runners and terrorists), fighting the Imperial Army should hold the same appeal as fighting the US Army, and getting the attention of the Stormtrooper Corps should inspire the same dread as earning the ire of Team Rainbow. Engaging the elite of the Stormtrooper Corps should be as doomed an effort as going up against the Space Marines with an AK-47.

Defeating Stormtroopers should be an accomplishment, not a given.

sighs

Alright, rant over.

Nowherewoman

It would have been a real short trip, were that the case.

EDIT

You might also want to consider that in WWII there was a roughly 20k rounds/casualty ratio. It's a lot harder to aim at someone when they're shooting back.

Honestly when I played Edge, he had a 'slug rifle' so it wasn't even that he had a blaster. Just your basic modern-day sniper rifle... Gotta get your credits before you can afford a blaster, kid! ^^

I just saw that Rodian had a rifle, so I thought, yep looks okay to me. :)

The E-11 was designed for crowd control not accuracy, the whole rule through fear thing. If you take five shots and wound 4 people that's more terrifying than taking 5 and obliterating one.

Sorosuub's Stormtrooper 1 is designed for accuracy though.

I'm gonna pack a D-18 personally.

Name: Krytanne ‘Tannie’ Lister
Gender: Female
Species: Lorrdian (near human)
Age: 28 standard years
Crew Position: Negotiable

Personality: Friendly, loyal and helpful to a fault, ‘Tannie’ is a sarcastic and sometimes cynical young woman whose inquisitive nature will get the best of her at times.

Background:
Krytanne was born on the planet Praesitlyn where her parents were on an extended stop with a their touring opera company. As soon as they were able to her parents returned her to Lorrd where she was raised by her extended family and learned the Lorrdian kinetic language that had been developed during the Kanz disorders, and further enhanced her natural mimic talents.

Her natural wanderlust and desire for adventure eventually led Tannie to The Academy, and after graduating with honors she was immediately recruited into the Republic Scout Corps. After a few years of ‘scutting’ for the more experienced scouts and doing their dirty work she was finally assigned her own ship. She was in heaven, it was just her and the stars and the planets she found. She loved the independence and adventure, and finding new races of people.

Then came the Galactic Empire and her world changed. It wasn't long before she saw the dark underbelly of the Empire’s scouting practices and how they enslaved every new sentient race they found and sucked their planets dry of usable resources. The first chance she got she sent her beloved little Sienar Lone Scout-A on a course into a dark nebula before hopping into the life pod...

Mmm, I did always enjoy the DL-18 blaster from a design standpoint- it looks like it's got some heft to it without being too bulky, like the DH-17. I've always had a soft spot for the Bryar pistol, since its really just a sawed-off blaster rifle, silly though that may be.

Dunn likely keeps a sporting blaster rifle in the cockpit- he's always found it easier to explain away owning a hunting weapon over trying to explain the wacky series of events that led to his possession of an Imperial-marked RT-97C heavy blaster rifle... He tends to prefer to avoid combat overall, but he does keep a CDEF pistol that he nicked from a CorSec guard tucked away in a boot holster.

I'll be updating the main post to reflect accepted characters and then I'll consider how much longer we should wait before beginning.

We'll be filing this away under Bondage at most, since no one seems to be inclined towards NC, and I believe I've settled on a setting in the range of 16-11 BBY. If anyone has questions as well, feel free to PM me while we wait.

Sorry to hear it wander- I hope you feel okay soon, even if you retract interest.

For wander and everyone else, I'll say in advance that while I know I and some of the other players might be in a little too deep in our knowledge of Star Wars minutia, the plot overall isn't going to focus much on that sort of thing, those are really just juicy little tidbits to toss around. Beyond that, if I ever reference something that I'm not sure is 'common parlance,' so to speak, I'll link to the Wookiepedia entry as well.

Blobbe

Name: Kataria Vand
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Crew Position: Gunner; general muscle and hand
Personality: Tough, self-reliant and no-nonsense. Not cold or remote, however; enjoys herself and likes having a good time and the like, but at the same time knows when to buckle down, shut up and do her job. Intense dislike for all things Mandalorian.
Background:
Kataria originally hails from some remote Outer Rim world that probably would have never been heard of. Unfortunately, it was on somebody's radar enough for the world to become collateral damage in the Clone Wars, fought over by two armies who otherwise would have never heard of the place. The result was a Victory for the Republic, although at the cost of severe damage to the planet's infrastructure.

With little for her there, Kataria left her battered homeworld, lying about her age to get a spot on a freighter before singing on as a hired gun to a mercenary crew. Since then she has wandered from spot to spot and crew to crew, exploring the Galaxy in her own way.

We seem to have a rather large female character population. if needed I can give Tannie a sex change to balance things out. I've written stories as a male but rarely rp'd as one, though I think I can swing it pretty well (pardon the pun lol).

I genuinely did not expect this turn of evemts; only one male application other than my own? What kind of zany bizarro world is this. This is like the opposite of every other group game I've ever experienced... What is the popular opinion of how people would like to proceed?

Juggtacular

Landshark

Its only an issue if everyone was looking for romance/sex in the rp. Im not hence why im playing a rodent. I can change my character to a male of a more ...ummm...non-furry race if youd like. I have no problem with romance/sex rping but its a nice extra not a gotta have kinda thing.

Juggtacular

Name: Nyxus "Nyx" Ordo
Gender: Male
Species: Kiffar(Near Human)
Crew Position: Co-Pilot/First Mate
Personality: Nyx was born on Kiffu, but he was still a child when he was taken, so his attitude is decidedly Mandalorian. He's rough and tumble, always ready for a brawl to break out, and always ready to be the one to either throw the first punch, or the one to end it. As a Mandalorian, he does have a loyalty to credits. However he has a code of honor, and he will never betray someone he's given his word to, or who has purchased his contract(unless something breaks the contract or betrays his trust). He's honest, but knows how to manipulate when necessary. He's something of a ladies man when he's not focused on work.
Background: Born on Kiffu to a noble house, much was expected of Nyxus. He'd serve in the military, then go into politics. His whole life was planned out. That plan would never see fruition though, as during a trip to a negotiation summit, his families ship was attacked by Mandalorians. The initial boarding explosion killed his parents, and since he was so young, the Mando's decided to take him with them, as well as all the credits they could find. He was taken back to Mandalore, raised and inducted into Clan Ordo. He was a very fast learner, and very adept. Quickly he became a masterful warrior and made his adopted people proud.

He even volunteered for an experimental procedure to make men faster, stronger, able to heal faster. It was a painful, and potentially fatal cybernetic surgery. He undertook it, and was one of the few to survive. But in surviving he was made even stronger. After a time though, he grew restless on Mandalore and decided to travel like many Mando do. He found well paying work as a mercenary and bounty hunter. But he got bored with that too. Then he saw an ad for a crew. Flying around the outer rim? Sounded like plenty of adventure for him. So he signed on, bringing his expertise to the Dianoga and it's Captain.
Description/Picture:

ThisOneGal

I'm fine with mostly female. I skew heavily towards yuri anyway, and I was more here for 'Star Wars RP' than 'sexy Star Wars RP' (nothing against the latter though).

vanTheMad

Yeah, I personally am more looking to play this RP out as a fun adventure for the crew, which has the ability to be as tame or mature as it wants, not as much a flying orgy- I'd be lying if I said that I thought everyone would be 'romance material' so to speak, but on the same token, relationships of all kinds are very fun to play out. I think I'm going to go ahead and step up and add one more slot to the crew so that I can accept both Nyx and Kataria on grounds that the two most "tough" characters having a beef with each other could be a blast.

Landshark, its up to you if you want to change your species, I'm not opposed to playing with a Squib (even if I have joked that they're what happens when wookies and smurfs have a hyperspace accident). I will be closing recruitment and updating the crew roster shortly, let me know with a PM if there is anything you want to update or change, and if there's any questions you have.

Once characters have settled out I'll get a proper OOC running and we'll start shortly after.

Juggtacular

Didn't even realize she didn't like Mando's when I made him one, hahaha. This could be fun. Maybe eventually she'll even realize that Mando's aren't usually born, they're made. And some don't have a choice in the matter. But until then. Draaaamaaaaaa lol.

Landshark

Ill stick with my furry lil friend then. I get a great amount of joy from playing the little buggers.

Since we have five people to fill three two-person berths (I doubt the captain or first mate are willing to share their rooms), I'm calling dibs on the solo berth. :P
I have attempted to convert it into a half-decent medbay so we have more than 'the first aid kit in the refresher' for medical supplies/treatment.
Given how many of you are geared up for combat, I don't think I'll face much resistance. ^^
Hmm... actually, given how many of you are geared for combat, it might be easier to fill it with medical kit I can attach to you and then dump you in your berth instead. :P
Either way, the single room is mine.

vanTheMad

Actually, I'll be making a floorplan for the Dianoga shortly! The previous owner of the ship made some modifications of their own, I'll have the floorplan added to the OOC probably tomorrow.

Juggtacular

Nyx needs his own room for the small arsenal he has on hand. Can't be a good Mandalorian without an overabundance of weaponry and explosive ordinance.

Aren't you the first mate? I thought you got your own room anyway.

Do people want to know the explanation for 'September' beforehand, or would you rather discover it when your character does?

Separation of character/player knowledge/ignorance is a thing where there isn't really a 'right' answer, so I'm curious as to what the group prefers.

The previous owner of the ship made some modifications of their own,

She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid.
Instead of obsessing on the person you want to be, focus on who you DON'T want to be. It's much easier to not do certain things than to break your head on some ideal of yourself.

When the dust settles, you may find out you've become who you were supposed to be all along.

Do people want to know the explanation for 'September' beforehand, or would you rather discover it when your character does?

Im not entirely sure how anyone would learn of whatever September is unless she brings it up as none of us have history with her. My squib would pester the ever loving shit out of her if she mentioned it then didnt tell him what it was though. :P

Actually, I'll be making a floorplan for the Dianoga shortly! The previous owner of the ship made some modifications of their own, I'll have the floorplan added to the OOC probably tomorrow.

Hehe as many of the books state "There is no such thing as a stock freighter"

(in a gravelly old coot's voice) "Give two brand new freighters to two captains then go back and check on them in ten years boy. They ain't gonna look or act like they were even made by the same comp'ny...(swigging Corellian brandy)
