So, apparently the rumour mill is suggesting we could be seeing a revamped Sisters army in the coming months, a proper codex, plastic models and everything. A new Necron codex seems to be the next release, there's talk of a revised Chaos dex and more plastic cult troops, and possibly an AdMech force as well.

I wonder if 40k is being upscaled and Fantasy downscaled.

The Fantasy end times stuff seems to be planned to wreak absolute havoc in the Old World, possibly removing a number of armies (or at the least consolidating them) from play. The next few months could be quite interesting to see what happens.

I really hope they're not getting ready to shut down fantasy permanently. I also hope the End Times armies aren't meant to be permanent: I like the idea of an army consisting of all types of elves, but it would take away quite a bit of the flavor.

*groans* So, if that happens, is it going to make my current Sisters models obsolete..?

Danger, Will Robinson! Danger!  :o

Thorne

NAh. Just a case of, 'alright, these represent these now, according to this' - the damn things are too expensive to just go off and replace everything every time a new edition of Thingie of The Month comes out. ;p

... I'm sure GW would disagree, but it's your pocketbook, not theirs.   ;)

Unlikely. IIRC you just have a handfull of basic ones, and while you might get new plastics, the older metal ones will still be valid. The look might be different, but you can always claim they're wearing older, relic armour :)

Space Marine players have been doing this for years, collecting different armor sets to give their armies a certain flair... I have a friend with a full 1200 point space marine army who are all wearing 1st Edition MK IV armour. I don't want to think about how much money he paid for that over the years.

I for one welcome plastic sisters. The metal models are so dumpy and difficult to manipulate, and impossible to play around with poses and stuff. Also, they can hardly be more expensive than the 10 year old metal ones. Right, GW? R-r-right?

I used to prefer plastic models over metal ones. Comparing the new Dark Elf Black Guard with the ones I already have, though . . . not so much.

As far as worrying your current models will become obsolete, though, don't. I've never heard of that being a problem, even if you play at GW.

Okay! I just ordered the WH40K rulebook... finally! I won't be getting for a few weeks, but I'll have it.

Anyway, as for the new Sisters... I actually have a significant part of my army now in metal miniatures. Aside from the ones I painted and posted here, I have six Sisters with specialist weapons (meltaguns etc.). And there's the metal penitent engine... which might be tricky to assemble because of the weight of the parts. It's one model I really wish was available in plastic... and, with the new army, it might be. But I already have one! Aargh!

Anyway... the thing that troubles me the most is the potential new codex. I only bought the previous codex a few months ago... Now, it would seem that these $25 I paid went to waste... *groans*

If no one suggested this already: drilling little holes and pinning the parts together will let it support more weight. Also, green stuff ( or similar products ).

I'm researching pinning at the very moment, actually :)

Any ideas as for cheap tools I could use? I don't have money to buy an electric drilling tool for $50 or something...

BTW. A silly question, perhaps, but... what metal are those old minis made of, exactly?

Hemingway

A hand drill for miniatures shouldn't be that expensive. I saw a few on ebay for ~$10, so . . . they shouldn't be that expensive?

According to Wikipedia, the metal miniatures are 'white metal/pewter' - so an alloy of some sort?

Could you link me to some auctions etc.? I'd like to see what exactly I should be looking for in a hobby shop.

BTW. My father has all these professional tools, like an electric hammer drill etc.. Would something like this work, or would be too strong to use on a mini?

Thorne

The metal miniatures are made from is pretty soft, compared to what those tools were probably designed for, so ... yes. Very much so!

I've hand-drilled minis, it's not hard. It just requires precision and patience.
You might want a padded vice (basically a desk-mounted clamp with rubber or some other soft material covering the part that will hold your piece of miniature) for holding teeny parts steady when you do it.

Look into Kill Team.

http://heralds-of-ruin.blogspot.ie/p/kill-team-rules.html

One box of miniatures should be enough to get you up and running. The rules are pretty much core 40k with a few changes, and its a far smaller initial investment.

I'm actually getting a Kill Team campaign up and running in 40k, playing the old Vogen Cityfight campaign. Played one test game so far against IG. Flamers are fun  >:)

So, what do I need for drilling aside from a vice? Not sure what to look for...

I got a tiny screw drill at a dollar store. It works for me, but I'm not sure whether they have Daiso in the West. Never really needed a vise myself, but I can see how it would make it easier.

Also, why'd you buy the old codex anyway? That thing's like literally more than ten years old already.

Actually, I'm much more far away than the West ;)

What I meant was that I bought the latest codex, the released only as an e-book. It's compatible with WH40K 6E, as far I know.

Ah. That makes sense.

Well, you can feel good that you helped to support GW in making them see sisters as a viable release. They did say that they were releasing the ebook codex as a method to test if there was still interest in a sisters rerelease - you buying it must have contributed to them concluding that sisters were deserving of an update!

Hemingway

Beorning buying them drove demand up by 200%.  ;D

Nah. I could see the Sisters being quite popular ( and probably very unpopular with others ... ). Just as long as Matt Ward had nothing to do with it, it should be fine ( I understand he no longer works for GW anyway, so hooray ).

Ha! I should get free minis as a thank-you, then :)

BTW. A quick eBay search found me this:

Is this something I should be looking for? How does this thing even work?

BTW. Is a "pin vise" the same thing as a miniature drill?

CountessJess

Looks pretty legit to me. It's like operating a screwdriver; you put the head you want into the mechanism, and then you screw in a hole where you want the hole.

Beorning

Out of curiosity: how many hands do you need to use such a thing? Could I use one hand to hold the part I drill hole in?
