Ugh Higurashi wins no contest. Absolutely the worst, most juvenile nonsense I've ever seen. I mean at least Elfen Lied actually was edgy and showed some crazy stuff but Higurashi had all the bad traits of edgy garbage without actually being edgy. I mean the first few episodes were intriguing if you could get through the boring bits but then it tries this 2deep4u nonsense. Then the second season tries to cover the ass of the first by whipping some "explanation" out of its ass that could have been written by a 12 year old.

Unpopular opinion as some people seem to really love it but Jesus I thought it was the worst anime I've ever seen.

Higurashi has its flaws, but I would not call it the worst by any stretch, not if you have seen both seasons anyways. In the start, it seems a bit weirdly stitched together, but it makes more sense near the end. The joy of watching it comes from noticing the small changes with each run-around, seeing how it changes the story in a different manner. In my opinion anyways, everyone's reserved to their own opinion ^^

Personally, I think the worst show I've seen must be a show that aired rather shortly ago, called "Girlfriend: Kari" or "Girlfriend: Beta". It became a form of masochism suffering myself through the first episode. Aside from that, Dead Leaves is pretty terrible as well.

Apparently GATE got an anime that just came out.

I checked out the first episode and it seemed good so far, I just hope they tone down some of the ethnocentrism and hypocrisy and hopefully kept the original author away from the script. (Some places ive looked the manga up have had people saying that the guy denies the Rape of Nanking ever happened and the Light Novel this was based off of was 30% blaming everyone else save Japan for various problems in between the action and Otaku stuff).

Still doesn't fully ruin the anime in my opinion. (I'm just old and want everything to be like Macross/X-com >_>)
Its still fun though and I enjoy seeing fantasy orcs get kicked down by modern tech and science. (Filthy orcs, the Emperor Protects don't you know?  8-) ) The animation was good, the gore from the manga was slightly toned down but still there.

So I honestly give it a recommendation if you like military Anime that is at least 20% accurate and not full of preteens who somehow become commanders just because and want to see some science VS. Magic.

Drake Valentine

God Eater Burst got an anime as well. I just hope it doesn't suck as the game was very awesome in a dark world apoc theme. (I mean, it was basically a futuristic MH in sense you can create yourself, but you didn't need players to fight with you, NPCs would help you and you could DL other players characters to help you if you met them. And unlike MH it had a story. )

Though I wonder if they would make a random protagonist for hero/ine or just do the original cast from the series and not have anyone join them.

Gonna do a quick rundown of the current airing stuff I'm watching based on the first episodes, so yeah ^^

Gangsta. Studio: Studio Manglobe
I enjoyed it, I haven't read the manga in a while, but I'm happy they kept the anime as graphic as the source material is. It is, as the name implies, heavily based on various gangster-groups interacting and mingling, seen from the eyes of an independent group. It's pretty cool, looking forward for more.

GATE: Jietai Kanochi Nite, Kaku Tatakaeri Studio: A-1 Pictures
Went into it expecting a Call Of Duty X World Of Warcraft fanfiction and left with a Call of Duty X Final Fantasy 14 adaptation. Overall, I have mixed opinions. I'm happy the main character is a bit older than usual, though he still follows a lot of the tropes that a standardized high-school-anime character could've had. He doesn't feel adult, which ruins some of the show to me, but again, that might just be me. It's an interesting concept overall, but I'm skeptical. I'll give it a couple episodes at least, and see how it works out.

Aoharu X Kikanjuu Studio: Brains Base
Just finished the first episode, I enjoyed it. From what I've read it's based on a one-shot, giving the studio a lot of creative freedom with the established cast, which I can hardly see as a bad thing with a story like this. Plus the character designs are adorable, the character designer(s) did an excellent job on giving all characters their unique traits to prevent them from looking awfully generic, which I have to give them props for. Plus, the animation is excellent overall, very smooth frame-transitions and they have managed to look it rather spectacular, if not a tad unrealistic. It feels like the kind of backing you just can't go wrong with, and I hope I'm right

Plan to check out:

Prison School Studio: J.C. Staff
Not airing in a couple of days, but I can wait. I love the manga to death, but I'm worried that the adaptation won't go all too well. The manga is very stylistic, which I doubt will transition too well to the big screen, not to mention the amount of censoring it'll suffer from if it's censored. However, aside from that, I'm looking forward to some crude humor. Underground Student council president best girl.

God Eater Studio: Ufotable
Video game adaptation, which makes me skeptical from the get-go. I've never played the game, so I'm interested in seeing what it's all about however. Plus, it's ufotable that is adapting it, it's worth giving a try. I had a look at the trailer, it looked a bit weird, I'm worried that the studio is just resting on their back-burners now that they are done with Fate/Stay Night. After all, they have pretty much always taken season breaks, so it worries me to see them make something back-to-back, but who knows, maybe they can pull it off.

Rokka No Yusha Studio: Passione
Never heard of the studio before, which is quite worrisome, though I'm hoping it's just a branch-studio or something. Aside from that, I know little of the anime itself, I'm relying solemnly on the description from anichart.net, but it seems interesting enough, I'll give it a couple episodes at least.

Monster Musume No Iru Nichijou Studio: Lerche
Again, not a studio I'm familiar with, but I'll again just hope for the best, the PV looked alright at least, and a lot of people seem hyped up about this one. The manga is a best-seller somehow as well, so I guess I'll give it a go just to see what all the hype is about. I quite like monster girls, but overall, the backdrop feels very slice-of-life, which is where my skepticism comes from.

And that's about it as far as things I'm dead set on following (Or at least checking out), I might check out that Overlord thingy as well, but we'll see.

Ugh, new season of anime is pretty bad.

Haven't seen God Eater, yet, so hoping that one is at least good.

All the others.........

Well, not sure of their actual titles in Japanese, watching them on Crunchyroll, but.

Ushio and Tora: A bit overthetop. I dunno how I feel on it, yet. I mean, it is kinda silly that the main dude's hair grows out when he uses the spear and I just didn't like the end result of how the first episode played out.
Rokka - Braves of the Six Flowers - Another uncertain on, guess first episode was okay, but here is hoping on that one.
Charlotte: I sort of enjoyed it, but not sure of the direction it is going. Like how the main character was a dick. :3
Aoharu x Machinegun: Just no, I started to watch it and the opening video was very yaoi. I will pass.
Gate: -.-`

Not sure what else is now streaming, Crunchyroll only streams certain ones they can get license to. Might have to check the web and hope labtop can handle videos since I watch my anime off console.

I know new Dragon Ball is out, but CR is not streaming that, obviously. >.<

Well, so far there's been more this season that has impressed me with their first episodes than I thought there would be.

Rokka no Yuusha     Really enjoyed the first episode. The main character is bold and arrogant, but not in a mean way, and the fact that it's set in a fantasy Aztec world instead of your typical Eurasian one, makes it feel really refreshing.

Charlotte     Pretty interesting. The protagonist is a complete (glorious) bastard who comes with his own Lelouch smirk and shocked expressions. Will have to see where it goes.

Gangsta.     Badass gangsters doing badass gangster stuff. Brutal action that makes your chesthair grow just from watching it. It doesn't go lightly on themes such as drug abuse and prostitution either.

Dragon Ball Super     It seems to disregard the shitty GT storyline, taking place sometime shortly after the Buu saga of the Dragon Ball Z series. The first episode, and by the looks of it the second as well, are mainly introduction episodes to show where the main cast is now and what they're up to. I have high hopes, however.

On my to watch list are:

Monster Musume No Iru Nichijou     Following the manga. Love it.

God Eater     This can go either way. Hope it's good.
Lingerie is like wrapping paper for the best present in the world     the female body.

Hi, new here but I found this thread when I began to look at what was available.

I haven't checked out all the new stuff yet so I will reserve comment on a lot of it.  Charlotte intrigues me pretty well. That is probably the one that sticks out most from what I have seen so far. When I first heard of Gate, I thought of Outbreak Company but it seems to be going in a different direction.

I have followed Prison School, though, in manga form, and I am wondering if it will be heavily censored or not. It seems pretty risque, though it is really great.

I love stories like those but its very rare ive found for science and Tech to win, usually its "Magic wins cause magic lol!"
So I always am proud when I see it happen.

But then it brings in another problem which I had in the Manga, that the JSDF then just started to steamroll all of the Fantasy forces. I like a good steam roll everyonow and then, but it proves to make the fights boring if you know you can beat your enemies with little effort. :/

I like to look at Fables as a good example, they had multiple issues of the protagonists using modern weapons on their more magic based enemies but they still suffered heavy casualties despite that. (Modern body armor is great to stop bullets but is absolutely weak against swords, knives, etc.)

But even then they still made their steamrolls fun.  :-)

Gate: I mean, I haven't read the manga, so knowing nothing about where it goes it is interesting enough for me to give another episode or two.  Not really sure what to think of it currently.
Wagnaria: I liked the previous seasons, I'm not feeling the effectiveness of it this seasons but who knows how it'll play out.
Aoharu x Machinegun: Another airsoft anime with a crazy cast of characters - that was probably what sorta turned me off initially but the episode was entertaining and the reverse trap isn't all that new but should play out pretty well in the situation they've built.
Rokka - Braves of the six flowers: It's alright, I mean he says he's the strongest in the world but in reality he's just kinda super underhanded.  It seems well made though, so I'll keep going.
Ushio no Tora: Almost didn't watch it, I'll give it another episode but something about it feels very old-style-anime.  Maybe just adapted from an old manga like RIN-NE.
Gatchaman Crowds: I'll go again, definitely.  The first episode didn't entirely grab me, but the previous season had the benefit of a slow buildup and this one seems to be throwing you right in.
My Wife is the student council president: Apparently crunchyroll is posting two versions of this, one with nudity, either of which are entirely up my alley.  I'm just gunna take a solid pass on this whole anime.
Classroom Crisis: I might give it some more episodes - I think it is pretty interesting they are some research and development place.
Miss Monocrome: I thought they already made this.. Still not particularly interested in her disastrous life.
Charolette Another one I'll wait and see on. The main character is a total douche, which might be interesting to see if he becomes a better person as it goes along.

Things I haven't watched yet.

MONSTER MUSUME EVERYDAY LIFE WITH MONSTER GIRLS:  Wasn't this like, a buncha super short porn things about a guy sleeping with random monster girls? I don't know that something like this is what I want to spend my time on.
Non Non boyori: Oh! The return of one of my favourite cute animes.  That is a definite watch!~
Actually I am: No idea here either~

Well, GT was completely fan-base made anyways. Tori-whateverhisfacenameisspelt didn't have anything to do with GT series. But Tori-whateverhisfacenameisspelt is doing the DB Super. Kinda funny that it has been almost a decade or so. DB was good for its past time, but I dunno, feels like an age relic compared to a lot of modern animes now.

Out of what I'm seeing thus far of this season, Overlord might be decent. Its a shame that the anime is a downgrade form gritty style of the manga so it might end up feeling like just another mmorpg fantasy.

I've got this feeling that Kangoku Gakuen will be the savior of the season as it seems like story that should benefit from anime adaptation; doesn't have many expensive action scenes, but contains tons of humor. Fingers crossed and sacrifices to the Old Gods finished.

I'm skeptical to Overlord, the first episode I found really boring, though I'll likely give it another episode or two just to see if it'll redeem itself.

As far as kangoku Gakuen goes, as someone who is caught up with the manga, I'm scared. I don't think they'll manage to pull it off simply because of how crude it is. If they do however, man it'll be amazing.

Myeah I suppose its always the risk with these sorts of long niche mangas (prison academy etc.) which target more mature audience that they have to end it half way or cut some corners and end up botching it. Worse yet, they might keep up the quality, but stop it at the point where boys get freed and end it at nice 24 ep mark :-)

Release date is July 5th and it is July 7th, haven't seen it streamed on any anime sites yet, not even 'raw.' >.>

Other animes have already been out the moment they were released even in raw format.

Well, it's not to be looked away from that an early ending might be inbound. After all, there's almost 200 chapters and a lot of characters progressively being introduced, cutting it off after they get out of the prison the first time would save money as far as voice actors and stuff goes, so I mean, it'd make sense, but I'm really hoping it won't happen since the next arc is my personal favorite.

In regards to Overlord, I wasn't planning to watch it at first, because I was in the mindset of dismissing it as just another anime with an MMORPG as its theme before having even seen it. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I did watch the first episode. It's a slow one, but it plays with a lot of themes a longtime MMO player like myself is all too familiar with, such as an MMO you love and played for years shutting down, and a guild disbanding/falling apart because of it.

There is a little something that pops up every now and then in anime-forums and chats, which is the idea of The Void.

For those of you who are not familiar with what the void is, the void is the idea of having watched something, played something, read something, that is just so incredibly good, in one way or another, that you're just left there feeling empty. You don't know what to do anymore, because nothing else is going to surpass what you just surpassed. A solemn feeling of appreciation towards this one piece of art, that has topped everything else that you have ever read, played, watched, and so forth. It occurs every now and then when you stumble upon something that just tops everything else, making the void indefinitely harder to achieve with each time it happens.

For a seasoned anime viewer, it's quite the dream, and it has been a very long time since I have felt it myself, but here I stand, nine months after the last time, with a sour taste in my mouth, the taste of knowing that there is going to be another such wait, and that expecting something on level with this void to fall into my lap tomorrow would be pure stupidity.

I just finished Your Lie In April, and, whilst I can only speak for myself, it was truly one of the better shows I have watched throughout my many years of watching anime. It is the first show in a very long time I have felt the urge to just plow through, which I in turn did, watching through well over the latter half of the show in a single sitting.

I'm not going to sit here and write a full review, I don't trust my own judgement on this factor due to a lot of factors that might have made the show appeal more to me than the average viewer (Of which I will keep away to avoid risking spoilers) can be expected to be able to relate to. However, it's heavy, it most certainly is.

The mix of classical music (Something of which I personally used to have a rather mediocre relationship with), some slapstick comedy, and lots and lots of drama, it just created something exceptional to me. I love music, and as someone who loves music watching a music show, I can tell, that those who made this show, loves music as well. It is truly a masterpiece in more places than one.

I'm not going to put a number on how much I enjoyed it, but I can say that I'd without a doubt recommend it to anyone who haven't seen it.

Your Lie in April was probably my Anime of the Year. So poignant. I felt touched by it in just about every episode, and it was the first time I recall checking out a manga beforehand and looking forward to seeing the adaptation to anime, rather than thinking I had already seen it and surely it had been done best in its original format.

Well.

God Eater anime pretty much seems to follow game storyline for most part.

Of course, protagonist has more dialogue it seems and they went the route of 'created protagonist' cause I don't remember that dude in game.  Which is fine. After all, in the game you were the hero or whoever you created was be they male or female.

So yea, all those events that happen in the first episode more or less happened in game. I wonder if they will do the New Game+ mode which had another story arc to it afterwards.

Makes me want to replay God Eater, but I think I will wait whenever GE2 hits(hopefully westernize)

It most certainly did, and it had a very fine balance between progressing the darker themes and keeping it somewhat light-hearted, something I feel a lot of other anime in the genre fail to. The most prominent example would be Clannad, since it is the go-to tearjerker suggestion for many. Personally, I felt the balance between its slapstick comedy and the points where you were supposed to tear up was terribly balanced, making the humor counterweigh the sadder moments just about every time. YLIA (Your lie in april) had a finer balance to this since the comedy was a lot more occasional and it was instead balancing between plot-progression and drama, something that made the dramatic moments a lot more impactful.

Yeah, it was an overall well made show.

The ending is still pretty heart wrenching
, yet there was more there then the emotional rollercoaster, rather the focus on music, and attention to detail and explanation of the different characters strengths and weaknesses.  How the main character was not particularly liked because how his mother taught him was to be basically a computer and play back the movements exactly as shown in perfection (Which, is perfect for winning competitions).

I found myself unsure throughout of which romance to root for, and by the time I had changed teams entirely, the plot throws a wrench in and you are given entirely new perspectives.  As the final credits roll, there was no character that I disliked, they all either served their purposes, or grew into deep, interesting people.

As a whole, it was a very satisfying combination.  It might not be the best romance (I still like Kimi ni todoke), but it is something I'd suggest to someone wanting a good anime to get into.
