Set in a government research lab, a mature head of research has taken on many research graduates to study his new mutagen serum.  In theory the serum could do everything including cure cancer, aids, birth defects, even hair loss!  However the serum needs to be 'programmed' by adding proteins and this is proving really complex as each protein can have several effects.  The lab is easy going with researchers encouraged to follow their own projects with the serum.  The results are tested on monkeys, and range from the subtle to the extreme, some monkeys having developed larger than normal muscles, lengthened arms or teeth, others develop behavioural changes or extra intelligence.

Two particularly geeky researchers, both obsessed with their own failings, him with his lack of sexual experience, she with her intelligence, decide to try their own formulas having tested them extensively on the monkeys.  What they don't realise is that the effects don't work in quite the same fashion on humans.....
