Everyone loves a good game of Dungeons and Dragons every now and again.  You likely even know a guy or gal that has all of the rule books, has memorized every class, every spell, demon, monster, and fey creature to ever cross a board.  There's probably a reason they're also still a virgin, but that's something else entirely.  Point is, for whatever gods forsaken reason, you finally break and decide to give it a shot after being pestered for weeks on end by this friend or sibling or whatever.  So you roll up your stats, you make an honest effort to make your new fantasy avatar even remotely interesting, and for your first time out, you did a pretty good job.  Your spells are loaded, you're armed up with your new axe, bow, daggers, or perhaps you went with the know it all sorcerer.  Perhaps you even decided to go full on drag and switched your gender, knowing full well you're going to have to somehow make yourself sound like a girl because your pest of a GM wants you to RP your character you've created for what they promise will be a magical experience.

Well...they were right, but not in the way they were thinking.  It turns out the gods exist, and they have a sense of humor.  Well, one of then does if you happen to remember a certain part from the long ass lecture about the pantheon you were given pre game that you paid only half a mind to at the time, if that.  Trouble is, for whatever reason, not only are you taken from your world and dropped into the one your GM had chosen for you and your friends to get their first taste, for those just starting out, of DnD goodness, but you realize to your utter shock that you have become your avatar that you just got done telling the group about.  The rest of your party has also suffered the same impossible transformation, and you're all understandably freaked out as your cooked up fantasy has now become your new reality.  You're now a resident of this world you helped either create, or you used a premade version for your first adventure.  Either way, trying to convince the locals you don't belong here proves fruitless because they don't know what in the Nine Hells you're talking about, and more than a few begin giving you uncomfortably strange looks, as if concerned this group of adventurers were possessed of dark, crazed entity, or under some kind of spell.

Eventually you calm down, take stock of what you have on your person, and decide to settle in for a very long campaign.  Welcome to the world of dragons, necromancers, sword fighting, drama, action, and the occasional stop at the local brothels, because you thought why not, and thought it'd be hilarious if your friend failed a 'performance' roll.  Welcome to your new home, adventurers.  So......

How do you want to do this?

After watching a Critical Role one shot called Liam's Quest over on Geek and Sundry, and laughing so hard I about peed on myself, I had this bit of inspiration hit me like a Bigby's Hand to the face.  Jokes aside, the idea's pretty simple, you and a group of people, say about six or eight tops, are either wrangled into playing their first game or are a returning veteran.  Whatever the case might be, you not only end up becoming your character, but you end up inside the world your GM had picked for what should have been a simple adventure just to get the newbs acquainted with how things were done.  From there, things understandably go tits up as your fantasy becomes your new home for the foreseeable future.

What I'm hoping to create is a story, absolutely rich in plot and character development and world building galore.  So, expect a long game if things go as planned.  As such, I'll try to get a world building thread going tomorrow, and once we get enough interest together, we can start plotting out either a world of our own, just using sources from any and all DnD related stuff, or using a world already created, whatever we end up doing I'd rather this be a group effort though.  But I don't want a Champions of Corruption knock off, basically while sex is entirely possible and even encouraged along the way when it's advisable, IT WILL NOT BE THE FOCUS!  I do have ideas of my own regardless of what we end up doing, but I'd rather stick to swords, sorcery, and dungeon exploring types of worlds over too much tech floating around out there.  I do love the gunslinger stuff that Talisen uses so well as Percy during Critical Role episodes though, so simple firearms and magically charged electro shock gauntlets are perfectly reasonable, so long as you invest the time to master your tinkering of course.

Despite all this talk of DnD and classes and stuff, I won't be making this a system game.  Someone else far more knowledgeable than me would have to run this if that becomes a thing, so expect freeform with everything, but my only caveat is that everything you use to create a character has to have come from some referential source.  Meaning if you're playing a duel wielding spell slinging knight, you better have a link to your class information in your profile sheet.  And because sex is a thing, books like The Book of Erotic Fantasy from the 3.5 era are totally cool.  I'm pretty sure you can find it for free online still, but again it's not the focus, just a suggestion if you want a cleric that's more...hands on than most when it comes to making you feel better after a tough fight lol.  I'm sure there are other books like that out there, that's just the one I have on my hard drive.

As you've likely noticed by now, this has more than ample room to be hilarious if not outright cringe worthy at times, especially since you all are playing the roles of your characters where before you were your typical seniors in high school to college graduates.  None of your cellphones, PDAs, or anything not part of your character will make the trip, so don't expect to pull out a pack of flares and a flare gun or whatever from your travel pack or bag of holding or whatever you use to carry your crap in lol.  As for character sheets themselves, again, I'm not going to run a system, but I am going to ask that you use real face claims for your character before you were transformed and dropped into this world, but you can use any anime or art work you find to create your more fantasy side.  Again, classes must be able to be referenced, home brewed or otherwise, if you can't link it, you can't play it, and because you'd start at level one, no multi classes or prestige classes either...yet.  That will come along as we progress through the story however, consider it natural growth for good RP behavior and an honest effort to keep the story going.

Anyway, I am going to be looking for a couple of Co-GMs because one, I haven't ran a group game for a long time, and two, I'm going to be heading to a summer camp thing in a couple weeks, so I don't want you guys to have to wait for me to come back before we can start moving again.  I'll only be gone a week, but I won't have Wi-Fi access where I'm going, hence my concern.  So yeah, two Co-GMs would be ever so helpful to me, but I'll be happy with one and a handful of players, let alone six or eight people lol.

Anyways, I've rambled on long enough, let's see what comes from this late night insanity lol.

I'll get a character sheet together when it's not one in the morning.  For now, interest first.

'Real character information'

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Appearance:  Height, weight, what they prefer to wear when not getting sucked into a fantasy world, eye color, hair style, whatever you deem appropriate.
Personality:
Hobbies:  Beyond D&D, for those that weren't driven nuts by a friend or sibling to play together, what else were you into?
Skills:  While you're going to be taking the form of your characters and getting their powers and abilities, some of it might cross over to your character since it's still you in there.  As such, only three approved skills will be allowed.
Background:  With the advent of Roll20 and other means to play D&D online, it's not necessary to be physically at the table to play.  That said, I'd prefer at least a few of the 'group' to have known each other beforehand for whatever reason.  Either siblings or friends or whatever works for ya.
Ons:  While this is more what your player is into, it's also the usual on/off section so feel free to put what you want and what you'd avoid like the plague.
Offs:

D&D character information

Name:
Age:
Gender:
Alignment:  There's a difference from being morally ambiguous, and being a complete jerk bent on taking over the world.  So long as you can play nice, I'll allow Evils of any alignment, but I'd rather you were more Neutrals before jumping towards Evils.
Race:
Racial Traits:  Some races are naturally gifted with unique features such as seeing in the dark or having resistance to cold, etc.  Do the best you can, not required, but it's helpful to have.
Class:  What you are from a professional standpoint.  This makes up the bulk of your character, and cannot be changed, so choose wisely.  (And try to avoid repeats as much as possible.)
Link for Class:  Self explanatory, not negotiable
Deities worshipped:  For clerics, paladins, and other religious based classes, this is required, but you don't have to draw your power from the divine to worship a god or two.  Must also fit your alignment, but there's a god or goddess for pretty much everything out there.  Please include a basic summary of what they're known for, their domains, anything you deem appropriate.  (A link can work just as well, up to you though.)
Appearance
Personality:
Hobbies:  Hobbies don't have to go hand in hand with your class. You can be a rogue who likes to draw or write books like your typical bard.  (Some overlap is totally fine if it works in the more fantasy setting
Skills:  Skills however generally do go hand in hand with your class.  So long as they fit your class, I won't be so stringent, but no one is good at everything.
Background
Ons:  Overlap is expected, but maybe your character is into stuff you aren't?

This sounds like it could be absolutely hilarious. Could go for a munchkin who for once in their life tried to make a realistic character and now regrets it.

Lol I'm happy to see my late night insanity drew in a few potential victims, err I mean players.  And yes, if done right, I'm expecting a few laughs along the way lol.

Drow, orc, halfling, gnome, wood elf, human, so long as it's not too crazy and humanoid I don't have a problem with most races that are out there.  Basically, feel free to go absolutely nuts lol.

Lol happy to have you Loina.

Character sheets are live.  Grab both of them if you guys would and don't worry about the background information for your fantasy side just yet.  We haven't gotten a world together yet, but class, races, stuff like that is pretty universal so go ahead and start thinking about that stuff at the very least.

Big Honk

This sounds incredible! I've always wanted to know what it's like to be the insufferable min-maxing munchkin, and seein all the conflicting emotions and wants a person like that would have once becoming their power fantasy would be just delicious.
Count me very interested!
Hello! I'm Big_Honk. I like complex characters and pretty words. I hope we can get along!
:)))))

Vergil1989

Lol glad to hear it Big Honk.  Feel free to grab a sheet and start making a character.

Okay folks, I'm currently looking for a good D&D world map, either official or home brewed, but if you have a preference one way or the other, speak now or forever hold your piece.  If enough people say homebrew we'll just make up our own world as we go along and what have you, using whatever map we can find to have a visual aid, but if it's an official setting, we'll still do our own thing, but it'll just be within the world already established.  Sound good?

Big Honk

I'm honestly not sure what sounds more tempting.
Being trapped in an established setting has the geek appeal of actually being there. The more experienced players would have more meta knowledge of the setting, and know how it ticks, perhaps even in ways that the inhabitants aren't aware of.
On the other hand, Homebrew could mean personally going to the GM's magical realm... And I can think of few things more terrifying.

Both have pros and cons, and would suit different kind of games. Seeing as I'm poorly versed in D&D lore, I feel tempted to say Homebrew.

Vergil1989

There's gonna be meta knowledge no matter what since the gods and races are the same no matter what world we happen to be in, unless specifically stated somewhere such and such died out for this reason, or in the case of Mystra, the goddess of magic, she was assassinated by a fellow, evil god, and magic therefore ceased to function like it used to which caused a world altering event called the Spellplague.  Long story, but overall, some things will just be assumed already known is all I'm saying, but I get what you're saying as well Honk.  So one for Homebrew, alright, thanks!

I don't have a preference as far as the setting goes.  I'm just looking forward to building the most ridiculous, hodgepodge character with everything awesome possible, whether they're practical or useful or not, just because my quirky nerd girl, who has never played D&D, was just going through all the books and grabbing everything that caught her eye.

-snickers.-  I'm super excited for this.

Well, my two favorite settings are Dragonlance and Eberron... but both are pretty specialized and kinda need people to be rather invested in the lore of the settings and blah blah blah.

There's always this world:

Vergil1989

LMAO thank you for that Chulanowa.  I know only a little about Dragonlance, and Eberron I only know the name, so yeah, I doubt we'd go that way anyway unless we get a lot more people voting for either of 'em for something more 'official'.  Lol but that map is hilarious.  Poncy Knight, Alien Egyptians, So Not Atlantis, did you make this yourself or did you find it online somewhere?  Either way, I had a good laugh lol.

And is that David Bowie sitting on the Iron Throne in your avatar?  Or rather, the Goblin King I mean, but yeah, is that what I see there Chul?  Because if so, that is AWESOME!

Absolutely it is. All hail His Grace, Jareth of House Stardust, First of His Name, King of the Goblins and the First Men, Lord of the Labyrinth, and Stalker of Sarah Connolly.

Vergil1989

The late King of the Goblins unfortunately, but yeah, nice little list of titles for one of the greatest actors of our time.  Still an awesome avatar though.  ;D

That fantasy map is amazing for creating so many different settings. It has everything you need from a generic fantasy world ;D I vote homebrew too.

I think my chara's character will be Aladin the Paladin. A supposedly chaotic good goody good paladin of justice. Maybe dragonborn or warforged, though might go with some funnier race since we're freeforming and stats for once won't matter in a D&D :P I'm thinking of making my chara's real self be a small and shy somewhat feminine guy with some strange hobbies.

Is he related to Madeline the Paladin, or her friend Derek the Cleric?  ;D

I'm not sure where I'm headed with this. Sooo many options!

Haven't read that comic before, just saw some art with title "Aladin the Paladin" and I thought, "Genius. Why have I not seen characters with this name more often."

This idea could be hilarious and fun, keeping an eye on it to see if anything springs to mind for a character.

Vergil1989

I've never seen that comic before either lol.  That was kinda funny though, might have to check out more about it in the future.  That map is indeed amazing, but it already has names and stuff on it so using it here wouldn't be an option.  Well, let me rephrase that, it has names and stuff I wouldn't use for at least a partially serious game lol.  This might be open to comedy, but I'm still kinda treating it as a serious game of D&D, if that makes sense.  As for characters, I'm one of those that creates a character I can stand to look at for weeks on end, that's just me though.  And since you're going to be inhabiting your characters for the foreseeable future...you might want to take that into consideration.

I've only recently came across the Warforged.  They're quite unique, I'll give you that, but not entirely sure if I'd classify it as humanoid or magical construct or a bit of both.  Meh, if you think you can live with it if you do decide to go that way, more power to ya Sain.  Anyway, I'll stop rambling, promise lol.

My question still stands for everyone else that hasn't voted yet.  Homebrew or official.
