The King stood over the bed, his son, Prince Vandren, lying there still with sweat across his brow. Behind him stood Lady Iona Draedon, a frown creasing her forehead. "Sire... we need the amulet... The Blackheart Stone..." The king sighed, his long, greying hair lank beneath his crown.
"I don't like the idea of this sorcery, Iona..." He said, his voice gravelly with lack of sleep and slurred with dehydration.
"Sire... It's all we have... I took the liberty of placing bounty notes around the city... Ithaeron will be baying for the gold I offered to help... I even appointed a commander for the quest. Fifty thousand sovereigns is nothing to be turned down."
"I hope you're right, Iona... of all my children... Vandren is the only one I trust to rule with a just, compassionate hand... alot is at stake here."

[A bounty Notice]
Sellswords: Make fifty thousand sovereigns picking up a completely worthless necklace! Gather in the Quiver and Sickle inn in Old Town, ask for the Back Room, and make that money YOURS!

The Races of the Southern Kingdoms Feel free to be something else, but please clear it via PM if you wish to be something different.

Humans: Average in many ways, but capable of far more than the other races for that, the wounded Prince is human. Within human hearts is much goodness... and much cruelty. Their potential great within their short lives.

Wood Elves: Once citizens of the Wyr Elvani empire, after the fall of their empire, many moved south and joined their forces with the Humans. Their reverence for nature can be a large stepping block, putting the woodlands and it's creatures lives above those of any humanoid. They have an intense ability for speed and agility, though little strength and stamina. Their climbing is second to none.

Dwarves: A stout people, indomitable and fun loving though fierce in the face of danger. They have superior strength and stamina... and can drink almost anyone else under the table.

Halflings: A short, quick witted people, excelling in magic and guile. Their clever way with words and exceptional abilities to get away with things

The enemies of the Kingdoms Please no players of these races unless you can make an AMAZING case via PM. And there will be a limit, so first come first served.

Orcs: A huge, burly people, green of skin and violent of nature. They once held an immense empire, but have become little more than glorified raiders and bandits. They have a strength and stamina that rivals even dwarves... but are as intelligent as several short planks.

Shadow Elves: Ancient Enemies of the Wyr Elvani empire... they hunt Wood Elves wherever they lay their heads and without mercy or compassion. They excel in speed and agility, and their ability to sneak and ambush is considered a type of racial magic by most.

Disciples of Zhaan: A splinter faction of the human kingdoms, anarchists following their dark god, Zhaan. They are well rounded and are capable of anything a Kingdom Human is.

Goblins: A diminutive, wiry people, full of guile and cunning, their command over ancient primal magics is legendary, though their tribes are often at war with each other, their intelligence and wit make them fierce enemies.

(more racial info on request, I just didn't want to spend all night writing this. :3)

Name: Isaera Splinterthorn

Gender: Female

Race: Wood Elf

Age: 372

Sexual Orientation: Lesbian

Appearance:

Personality: Izzy is not an easy person to get along with, as a leader she is firm, fair and loyal. Her methods are unorthodox, born of old Wyr Elvani tactics. She has something of a chip on her shoulder, and is prone to passion induced rages, she is very proud and actually pretty easy to manipulate for a team leader.

History: Isaera was born in the capital of the Wyr Elvani Empire, and had a relatively privileged childhood, joining the third Scout Regiment and acquitting herself well in several skirmishes against their Shadow Elf enemies. After the fall of the Wyr Elvani, she eked out a living as a sellsword in the human capital of Mourneguard. After several decades of general anonymity, she was a part of a ragtag defense of the farming village of Dawnstead, commanding the defense against a heavy attack by Orc raiders, losing just three people. After that she became a go-to girl for any important quests below the eyes or above the grade of the local guard. She was hand picked by Lady Iona to spearhead the quest for the Blackheart, her most important duty to date.

Skills: Tracking, due to her time as a scout for the Wyr Elvani empire
Camoflage/ambush, also due to her scouting capabilities.
She excels in her use with the bow, and while she has skills with her blades, her combat style in melee is fast and agile, though does not allow much space for defense.
Scavenging (Skinning, butchering and primitive leatherworking capabilities when in the wilds)
Climbing, like many Wood Elves, she can scale trees and certain buildings easily. Most Orc and Shadow Elf buildings are beyond these skills, however.

Questions:
-Is this based on a particular fantasy setting?
-If not, what fiction and real sources would you hope to draw on as influences for the setting?

Xanthaine

It has no specific base canon, though certain aspects are taken from a friend's unpublished novel... in fact the one where my name here is taken from. :3

I won't make my friend's literature available for copyright reasons, but it's a relatively standard fantasy setting, and almost anything is negotiable should you wish it, just a matter of making a good case for it.

TheHangedOne

Looks cool, Xanthaine. I have a question, though: How is magic handled?
A&A's and O&O's *Status: Here and there | Games: Aiming for punctuality*
"In prosperity, our friends know us; in adversity, we know our friends."
"In the ocean of knowledge, only those who want to learn will see the land."
"Before you roar, please take a deep breath."
Check out my poet tree!

Xanthaine

I'd have to largely rely on the player's discretion on spells and so on, but magic is divided into the schools below, you may have as many BASIC spells from each school, but can only really specialise in one.

Nature (healing largely, includes some things such as roots and poisons.)
Death (Entropy and so on, weakening, generally frowned upon in Kingdoms society.)
Fire (pretty self explanatory, really.)
Water (includes ice)
Primal (Lightning, wind and earth, pretty versatile, but completely ILLEGAL in Kingdoms society, yes you may use this, but expect hostility if used in Kingdoms lands.)
Shadow (arts of concealment and fear, ONLY AVAILABLE TO SHADOW ELVES)
Arcane (generally versatile, but not good for real combat. Can however be used for convenience, limited telekinesis and so on. Imagine it similar to the Elder Scrolls Alteration School, if that makes sense.)

In a nutshell, that's it. Any specific advice on a school needed, just prod me. Just so you know, the races are NOT limited to their archetypes, Wood Elves can do magic and Dwarves can do sneaky sneak. :3

Name: Katherina Tilanor (Kathy)

Gender: F

Age: 20

Race: Human

Bio: Kathy is a thief, a rogue that's been stealing and dealing with the underground world ever since she was a child. In fact, Kathy usually cares about just two things, having fun and stealing things. She doesn't steal so much for the money as for the thrill. She likes to go on dangerous adventures, whether that's exploring a lost dungeon with the promise of lost treasures, or breaking into the Governor's palace to steal his most precious jewel. When she isn't robbing people blind, she will usually be at some inn or club partying, and having casual sex. She doesn't keep her partners for long, preferring not to become attached, instead drinking and having fun until the early morning hours.

Personality: She is very playful and flirty. While she often keeps her hood up for obvious reasons as a thief, she has very little covering otherwise, and uses her sensual, fit and than body to her advantage whenever she can.

Skills: Kathy is very skilled at what she does. She can blend in shadows, and when fighting is needed, even though she isn't very tall, she has surprising speed and strength, allowing her to overpower most except trained fighters, from which she can make a quick escape when she realizes that she can't win in a melee battle. She carries two deadly blades on her hips and can use them expertly. However she has no range weapon or magical power, which puts her at a disadvantage in any range battle.

Xanthaine

What does she do against a scout and ranger? :-P Izzy can close up with her blades or put an arrow in her back. She won't though... she's too fixed on the bounty cash. :-P

SargentToughie

Is this RP going to have some sort of system? It seems like it's going to be freeform, but I'd like to ask before I start to get to work on my character sheet.

I've had a bit of a character concept in my head for a while that I'm dying to try out, so please get back to me. :D

She would hide, then wait until she can attack her by surprise, and slice her open from behind. Or, if she couldn't hide, she would surrender, and try to seduce her ;)

So how would this particular RP work?  Do we already have someone willing to write roles for the monsters and control the general pace of the RP?  Also...how sexual did you have in mind for this setting?

MzHyde

I'll tentatively throw my hat into the ring 'cause I like Xanthaine. Going to see what develops for now though.  ;D

AdrianZef

I'll show some interest too, though I'd like to see a little more discussion flowing before I make any profiles.

We'll start in the Tavern, and you'll have a courtesy period before the quest proper kicks in to get to know one another, establishing any pairs etc. I myself will be taking the part of the enemies and so on, there won't be a roll system or anything, though I expect a certain standard of RP, especially during battle, the usual stuff, realistic combat, no godmodding. And I'll be offering IC rewards to exceptional RP sometimes. :3 I won't punish people IC however, so all would be well. But I will certainly be directing things, so would advise watching all posts, not just the person your character is talking to, for any events. I'll be running some at the tavern at the beginning so you know what to watch for. :-P

See above for the bit on monster control, the sexual aspect is fairly open, just please no NC (my personal preference) and avoid your romps distracting from the main story arc. There will be points across the quest where things slow down a little and offer time for character development/romping. :3

Alrighty, I think I'll be getting started on my character then. Lemme know if you want anything changed.

Name: Aiden Christin

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Age: 24

Sexual Orientation: Straight

Appearance:

Personality: Aiden has a very firm sense of right and wrong, often taking action in things that are really none of his business when people are in trouble around him. This, combined with his adventurous spirit, often gets him into trouble. Still, he hasn't gotten himself into anything that he can't handle yet, and honestly, he wouldn't think of living his life any other way. He finds great passion in waking up every morning thinking that it might be the start of some new adventure.

History: Ever since being a young boy being raised by a single father in a faraway land, Aiden found himself lost in a deep sense of wanderlust, the allure of exotic new lands and exciting adventures being all that the child ever thought about. As such, the moment that he came of age at 16, he left home on a small sail boat and never looked back, the world was his oyster from that moment on. Throughout his travels around the world he developed something of a reputation, tales of a red haired swordsman of incredible skill and virtue started to preceded him where he went, due to some of his earlier trials where he had battled against some very powerful and dangerous foes. His adventures have brought him to Wyr Elvani, where he aspires to find some sort of new adventure to be had, and the search for an otherwise mundane amulet seemed like an opportune time.

His 8 years of adventuring taught him that no king would send out such a massive reward for some pointless trinket, so he was naturally quite interested.

Combat: Aiden fights with a sword and shield as a straight up warrior, however, he has a few twists to him that he picked up over the years, in that he has a few enchanted accessories on his person that give him powers to compensate for his complete and utter lack of magical potential. The Ignis Bracer allows Aiden to fling fireballs from his hand at a very rapid pace, though it needs to be cooled down if used too frequently. The Guardian belt allows Aiden to erect a magic barrier if timed right, though like the bracer, the belt can only handle so much pressure before it gives in and needs to recharge. Lastly, the Terra Gauntlet gives Aiden dramatically enhanced strength for one attack before it goes on cooldown. This is typically used for the utility purposes of breaking through walls, or shattering a tough opponent's defenses.

....................

Alrighty, done. Lemme know if there's something about it that you don't like, and I'll change it to the best of my ability, though I'm fairly sure that everything is pretty reasonable.
If you're reading my RPs from the outside and like my writing, feel free to drop me a line! I'm always looking for new, fun partners. :D

MzHyde

Name: Amelia Allbright
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Age:28
Sexual Orientation:Bisexual

Bio:Daughter of the High Alchemist, Albert Allbright, Amelia has had some big shoes to fill. While most children spend their youth playing outside with friends or pretending to be warriors on adventures while play fighting with sticks, Amelia was locked away in her father's study, the old man making his daughter relentlessly study so that she might one day take up his mantle as the country's greatest alchemical expert. Albert Allbright, who's skills were sought after by peasants and lords alike, was one of the most respected figures in the alchemical world. While Amelia was a quick study and was crafting high level potions before she was even old enough to have an ale, she did not inherit her father's enthusiasm for kowtowing to royalty and nobles. She much resents her father for keeping her locked away and forcing her into endless hours of study. Despite her hidden loathing for the profession, Amelia doesn't deny that her father made her into something of an alchemy genius and so she's not afraid to ply her trade where it's needed. Unlike the old man, though, she perfers to do it on the move. Not content to sit in one place for the rest of her life, as soon as she was eighteen and had the money, she bought herself a horse and a wagon and began taking her craft from town to town. She's been doing this going on ten years now and 'Amelia's Alchemical Assortment' is starting to build a reputation of it's own. When she heard news of the bounty she quickly signed up, wanting the money for a certain reason.

Personality:Amelia is defined by a bit of self-assurance and dry humor that can make her a challenge to be around a times, but she backs it up with considerable skill and the ability to think under pressure. Years of handling deadly chemical combinations have taught her to be patient and calm, and while others may panic in a moment of trouble, Amelia has the ability to keep calm and plan things step by step. The one thing she hates more than anything is being compared to her father.

Skills:
-Alchemy, Grand Artisan: Amelia often plans in advance of what she needs and carries a wide variety of potions on the two massive potion belts she wears. Given enough time and the proper reagents, she can create a potion that can do just about anything. Her most basic potions that she always carries include; healing, sleep, poison, liquid-to-solid, solid-to-liquid, and flesh-to-stone.

-Lockpicking, Minor: Years of trying to escape her father's study and her nimble digits make her a passable picker of locks. Should the party be seperated from their talented thief, Amelia may be able to pick a lock in a pinch. She can only undo basic locks, however.

-Immunity, Toxins: Almost two decades of experimenting with the most dangerous substances on the planet have given Amelia an immunity to most toxins and poisons.

-Herbalism, Advanced: Amelia often uses a wide variety of plants in her creations, so she's become quite adept at identifying various types. After all, it is much cheaper to harvest one's own ingredients than it is to purchase everything.

Prince Truhan

#24
Name: Malfiend Vilestur
Gender: Male
Race: Wood Elf
Age:495
Sexual Orientation: Straight

Bio: The youngest member of the Vilestur family Malfiend was expected to continue the secret family tradition, to refine and use Death magic to its most destructive potential. Such use comes naturally to every Vilestur, and for this they weren't view favorably in the elven society.

When Malfiend learned first hand how destructive Death magic was, he shunned it and left his home, promising himself to never use it again. Since then he has become a dabbler in all other forms of magic, his book knowledge is hard to surpass, but his true powers only show when using Death magic making him perform way below his true potential.

Personality: Malfiend does his best to keep his composure at all times, he believes the darkness inside him would come out if he lets his emotions go unchecked. He has confidence in his abilities, fostered by trying to convince himself that he chose the right path. He likes to plan ahead as knowing what will show before it can surprise him grants him a better control of his own reactions.

Skills:

Magic: Death: he has a raw power in death magic that comes from a long lineage of Vilestur blood. However he will do his best not to ever use it.

Nature: His first interest once he took learning magic upon himself, he is very familiar with healing spells but treating the most serious injuries is beyond him.

He has a working base knowledge of Fire, Water and Primal magics, even if the last one is kept secret.

Arcane is more familiar for him, as the non combat tricks available from this kind of magic are as far from Death a he can think.

Other than his magical abilities Malfiend has taken time to study other subjects, giving him worldly knowledge even if not as much experience.

As far as physical combat training goes, he prides himself on his ability to evade strikes, although he can by no means be considered an expert.

Smaug

#25
Name: Danny  McConnale

Gender: Male

Race:Half Human- Half Orc

Age:203

Sexual Orientation: Gay

Human

Bio: When Danny was born he was left in the rain and made to fend for himself. Left and abandoned a human family was nice enough to bring him up, until he killed them when he got to age seventeen. Around that time he got in a lot of trouble with being a prostitute and being what he was. Though he didn't know he was a half orc at first until he was pushed too far into anger and he snapped, turning into his other form. Appalled by this he tried to take jobs that distracted him and worked on controlling the other half of him. He developed a shell which was a happy laid back nice guy, of course pushed too far he becomes angry and rude. He is very bipolar you could say. Doing many jobs he just stuck with being a bounty hunter and a spy to whom ever paid him the most.

Personality: Danny is some what laid back. He has a 'cool' like attitude. Rude and pissed at times he is a good guy to get to know as said above. He also snaps when pushed too far in certian situations or at certian times, changing into the rude orc he is familiar with. Despite his race mix he is very smart, good at deceiving, and he is very neutral, 'who ever pays the most money' is his loyalty, unless there is a man who has caught his interest.

Skills:
Lock Picking: Self explained...
Strength: He has exceptional strength when he is in human form, while he is an orc he is the same.
Primal: In tuned with most of all of them (not good but still), with the exception of doing good with electricity.
He excels in hand to hand combat along with a sword.

Perhaps tone down the magic a bit, remember you can specialise in one, but only receive basic skills in the others. He seems well rounded on initial glance, but if you look he has 'Exceptional/extreme strength in both forms' and 'Excels in hand to hand, sword and bow'. Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but he seems a bit... TOO powerful. Also, minor thing, half breeds generally have increased longevity, but an average human/orc lifespan would be in the region of 240. It's good, just needs a few tweaks. :3

Prince Truhan

Xanthaine

Perhaps lose one combat skill, or at least lower it... For example in mine, her melee abilities are handy, but makes her far weaker than if she kept out of range with her bow, and most of her skills are non combat based, though useful (scavenging/tracking).

I would suggest lowering his bow expertise a bit, OR make him berserker like in melee, where his defense and self preservation is lowered.

As it stands he's a bit of a tower of power, able to use a bow with excellence as well as melee, meaning in a ranged fight he has no handicap, as well as having none in melee. Your mitigating factors don't have to necessarily completely weaken your character, just allow his enemies a chance.

Izzy is at her strongest in ranged combat against other rangers/melee, at middling in melee, though against expert close combat advocates she would stand a lower chance, her biggest weakness is versus spellcasters at any point, with her bow or in melee, as she has little defense against them, and they have plenty of defense (if they have the reflexes :-P) against any of her abilities.

That's the best system, give them an advantage, a neutral area and a disadvantage. A thing they excel against, something they do okay with and something that has a high chance of mincing them.

MzHyde

The Half-Orc dude's profile has lots of errors in it and it doesn't flow very well. You make it sound like he's a nice guy (or trying to be) and yet he's rude, doesn't hesitate to do 'dirty' jobs, murders people and uses their bones to decorate his weapons... and yet he's still a hit with the ladies? (or the dudes, I guess). Plus, like Xan said, he is WAY too powerful. He can pick locks, use magic, and fight at any range. That's a bit much. You should pick an area and go with that. Look at my character, for instance. Alchemy is a totally overpowered skill. You can do just about anything with it. But to counter-balance that, she needs expensive reagents and preparation time to make these potions. Plus, she has almost no real combat skill. Aside from stabbing someone with a knife tipped with poison, she's got no martial prowess. Also, why two pictures? I don't think Half-Orcism (or whatever you call it) is a transformation like becoming The Incredible Hulk.

SargentToughie

After keeping my ear to the ground a little bit, I'm starting to understand what is and isn't balanced in this RP better. For instance, Aiden would be strongest when fighting at close range, decent at magic combat and mid-range due to his fireballs, but absolute garbage to those who can keep their distance from him, since the farther that the fireballs have to travel, the more predictable and weaker then they become. Back during character construction I was actually thinking about making one of his trinkets a gap closer instead of a shield to compensate for this, but I figured that would be a little far across the line.

Learning is fun.
