This is probably one of my favorite questions to ask. If you could have one single superpower, what would it be?

Ohhh tough one....I suggest putting a link to the Super Power Wiki for this thread :)

I'm gonna have to go with Techno Magic manipulation.

Omfg, Drake. Haha.

I used to always say telekinesis, but then I would never ever get up, and grow into the sofa like a mushroom. So I'm going to say ability to manipulate time instead!

Seress

Teleportation. *cheers*

Being able to steal other people's powers...... or is that cheating?
If found acting like an idiot, apply Gibbs-slap to reboot system.

After searching the wiki, I found a cool one.

Not really cheating. You're more or less limited by knowledge and location.

Mathim

Memory manipulation (my own and others'). I'd force myself to forget bad things that have happened to me, and alter people's memories so that they'd be well-disposed towards me, to the point where I could call in non-existent debts they owe me, and teachers might remember there was a mistake with my grade and that I got a perfect score...or that someone I really hate would forget that they've already had quite enough of something bad for them and that they should keep on going while I watch them succumb. It would almost be like having a Death Note except it would be a little more useful than simply causing convenient demise. I'd also be able to access memories to get information, or find out if someone's lying, etc.

My go-to answer is telepathy, despite the fact that I know it would end poorly.  Even just the ability to read minds, while amazing, would probably make you miserable.  ANd if you were able to change them, that would be super cool, yet totally immoral.  But it still attracts me.

I'd settle for being immortal though.  Being able to live multiple lives would be a superpower in itself.

I feel no guilt nor sympathy for human beings ergo that wouldn't bother me about using my similar power in that manner. Morality ceases to be an issue once these abilities enter into the equation.

Immortality, though, that would be more of a curse than a power. Everyone you ever knew or loved dying over and over and over while you stay the same age (presumably, if you didn't forget to specify eternal youth) and have to live as more of a passive observer to avoid drawing attention to your never-aging self. Look at Jack Harkness, he's not exactly thrilled about the prospect of his own immortality. He makes good use of it, sure, but you see all the shit that goes with it.

Aeons

Eh, I know the standard rap on immortality but I'm willing to deal with the downside.  Unlimited chances at life, getting to experience anything and everything.  I'd get over you.

Mathim

Meh, I'd rather live one perfect life than several imperfect ones. You'd have to deal with disappointments over and over again, you'd have to have huge amounts of patience which I don't, you wouldn't experience the same sense of fear and trepidation which makes things interesting and exciting because of your (presumably) inability to be killed by artificial means if you have the Vandal Savage type of immortality.

I'll go above and beyond and do the top five.

Top choice would definitely be teleportation, especially with me being someone who hates driving. Plus I could take "day trips" anywhere in the world

Next choice would be being able to stop time. You would have pretty much infinite time to accomplish anything you wanted, and then use all of your "real time" for fun. If I could combine these two into just being "The Master of Space and Time" who can bend time and space, that would be great

The third choice would be super intelligence. I'm already pretty smart, but I could do some great things if I had, say, supercomputer level intellect

The fourth choice would probably be invisibility, just because it would be fun and cool, and, like Greta Garbo, I want to be alone

The fifth choice would be irresistible pheromones. Having everyone be driven wild by you would be fun for a while, but it would get old once I got married and settled down, so it's only the fifth choice.

Lux12

Advanced occult mastery. The higher forms of magic that can be woven with little ritual. With the greater forces of the spiritual cosmos at your finger tips, there's little you can't do. Also it would be highly meaningful to me being that I'm a neopagan

wander

My one OC has space manipulation...  8-)

You basically get the Kamui powers from Naruto with it.

Being able to warp attacks so they don't hit you (along with deflecting them back to reflect on the attacker) along with the wonders of teleportation in a general sense... Well, there are some pretty cool applications to it... My character has more than once warped space to constrain enemies with just the space around them, without flat-out teleporting them or teleporting parts of them wherever he wants...  8-)

Meaningful to myself as it's like an instinctual protective shell around oneself... *nods sagely*

RubySlippers

Regeneration, without decent health life isn't as good and I would know.

Dice

The ability to create and control flame.

I was a fan of the X-men character, Sage.  Among her powers was that her brain worked as a supercomputer.  I played her once in a RP, and so spent a lot of time thinking about how that would work.  It's interestingly powerful since, among other things, you could have thought processes happening in parallel, so you could delal with day to day life while at the same time planning and cracking hard problems.  You could have perfect recall, or at least that was a feature of hers, which is amazingly useful.  And your mental speed would be amazing so you could have great reaction times, having been able to think out a situation completely in the seconds it takes to react.  Love it.

The Black Khal

It would be pretty awesome to be able to manipulate gravity.
"When the stars go out
you can hear me shout
'Two heads are better than none
one-hundred heads, are so much better than one!'"

You'd be very likely to simply have to continuously fix what you previously fixed or you'd have such a utopian world you'd be bored to death. And you simply can't fix a paradox; if something bad didn't happen you'd have no reason to go back in time and make the bad thing not happen in the first place.

zerowingR

I think I would go with the ability of Comprehension. To be able to completely and totally understand what a person is doing and why they are doing it,or what they exactly mean when they say something. And probably just as importantly the ability to let others understand exactly what I mean when I say something.

It would seriously cut down on the number of times I have to say "I was being sarcastic."

That would only be true under the assumption that your own existence can be effected by paradoxes. There's no reason to think that going back in time and killing your parents would make you cease to exist. You've already stepped out of time and just jumped into an arbitrary point where 'fate' never placed you, so why would any changes to your past follow you that far?

Sorry for mini-rant, just this aspect of time travel fiction has always bugged me :/ Never made any sense. Then again, it's time, where terms like future, past and present are more like placeholders that will probably seem infantile in 100 years.

Can't I just be Toad with all of his abilities? No?

Fine, I'll just take the 25 foot flexible tongue with the gross dripping goo.

I suppose time travel could be looked at, as a sort of dimensional travel?

If an infinite number of worlds exist, you just step into one, where you havent made the choice that you want to remake and you go there and get a do over?

Sorta like how amberites travel through shadows, if youre familiar with the game system?  Though to have that sort of ability does cheapen the experience, since everyone might start to feel phony after a while.

Mikem

As a kid, I always had recurring dreams of being able to fly. Not like Superman style where you just go, but more like you have to dive down in order to gain momentum, and then pull up to use said momentum to get distance. Imagine a sort of arcing style, and you have to pull yourself back in order to slow down to land, like a Helicopter. I guess my young mind was more in tune to the laws of Physics than I thought.

I was also really big into being able to bend water, like in Avatar.

That's more like gliding than flying, i think with the right 'suit' (and backup chute), that people actually god skydiving and move around in the air like flying squirrels.

ScarletPrincess

Call me boring, but I think it would be great to have super speed (assuming it was like the Flash's, where it basically also comes with super durability and the ability to think at super speed too). Imagine how amazing and free life would feel if you could just zip around, and make huge flying jumps after accelerating to insane superhuman levels. And then you could also read and think at super speeds, allowing you to absorb huge amounts of information, and hit things with more force than a bullet.

CaptainNexus616

I would want Lifeform Creation. Just the ability to design and create new lifeforms as an act of will. To be able to give birth to strange creatures and plants I see in my head. Create whole new races and species... sure I won't see the centuries pass like an immortal or live with perfect health the way someone with a healing factor would but what better way to be remembered than to be remembered as "God"?

This reminds me of a study done on Superman and his abilities. Remember objects that gain speed also gain kinetic force. It's been estimated that a single punch thrown by Superman using his strength, would cause an atomic explosion multitudes greater than any bomb we've built. So that super speed would come with epic responsibility. Unless you want to level a country by running into something.

Yukina

I just thought of a wonderfully trollish power: The power to modify text anywhere. :)

Beorning

Speaking of superpowers: don't you guys think that super-speed is the most broken power ever, at least when it comes to superhero stories? I mean, the speedsters are shown to move at incredible speeds... speeds that, logically, should make them invincible. A Flash-level superspeed is completely unbeatable when treated realistically... So, to give the speedster heroes challenges, writers make them very inconsistent: the Flash can run to a store, pick up groceries and come back in a blink of an eye, but he still has trouble dodging Captain Cold's ice gun, he can get tripped etc.

BTW. Please explain one thing to me: why do speedsters *run*? Why don't they *walk* at superspeed?

marblesoda

Metal bending/tech magic OR basically being a Green Lantern. :)
"Do you know what that really means? A knight in shining armor?" "A hero who saves the day." "No. A knight in shining armor never did nothing for nobody. He never fought. A knight in dented, scraped armor, now that's what you want."

eternaldarkness

I want two: immortality and the ability to pause time /set specific points in time that I can 'rewind' to.

Starstrider

It's a toss up between teleportation, flight, healing and telekinesis. I thought about telepathy, but quite frankly, I don't think I'd really want to see what's in other people's minds. Mine is enough of a handful at times.

Polymorph

Bodyswapping

Probably a cheat answer, but if you could simply move over into someone else's body you would effectively have immortality as well. At least where natural aging or illness is concerned. Plus to get any other superpower you'd just need to find someone who had it and possess them. Also I'm a huge perv and possessing hot women's husbands/boyfriends for a night or if I fancied a change the woman herself would be cool.

Rogue

The ability to always fill something. Oh you're irritating me. "Your bladder's full" oh I need to buy a house. "Fill up my bank account" oh I got shot. "Fill up that hole" oh I'm bleeding out. "Fill my body back up with blood" oh you're attacking me? "Fill your lungs up with poisonous compound of choice." or your stomach with arsonic. Or something of that nature. And on the converse "fresh blood or oxygen"

Sub Abi

Shape changing, it would be amazing to be whoever I want whenever I want, or just simply fit on great outfits ;)

Teleportation is also a contender, no more paying for holidays....or indeed anything if I chose to use my power to commit crime ;)

Atarn

I used a link for an old game I played in here on E...And got...*drumroll*

A sudden storm in

    confessor of sins
    a master of hearts

GirlFriday

Probably the ability to rewind time an hour and correct any mistake I make. Anymore than an hour, I may end up messing with the space-time continuum and exploding it.

Had another dream where I had the ability to fly. Though I get really stubborn about how exactly. I couldn't just jump and take off, I had to jump off a high hill or cliff, and then glide around using lift and momentum...

I think my mind is telling me to go try out hang gliding. Or skydiving with a wingsuit.

Smoketail

I've always wanted the power of shape shifting.

Warlock

I'll also go with shape-shifting, even if it's highly limited. Can do a lot of fiddly things with an extra hand in everything from sewing, writing, cooking and cleaning.

KingsBlade

Summoning is the best ability, why would I need to do anything when I can just summon something to do it for me. From fighting to simply having someone to keep me company.

Angie

Shapeshifting, I love shapeshifting. I usually go for the Mystique kind of shapeshifting, though.
Avatar is by Lemonfont. Will remove it if he asks me to.

scribus1000

Ability to twist dreams into reality--and being able to choose which dream to enforce, as well. Since there's a lot that could go right (or go wrong) with a power like that, considering some of the strange scenarios I'd end up in, it would be interesting.

VigilantLlama

I always wanted to be able to fly, but given how often superheroes in stories lose their powers, I'd be terrified of losing that ability and winding up dead, and what if I crash? So I'd have to be careful.

But flight is quite limited, really, when you think about it. I can't, say, pick up someone else and bring them with me. Now matter manipulation, that'd give me the ability to move the molecules in the air around me, effectively giving me flight powers, plus a kind of telekinesis. So I'm going to go with that.

BellaVita

Probably plant manipulation :D It'd be amazing to control and bend nature to my will

Remiel

I've often wished I had the ability to make fat people skinny instantaneously.   Not only would I make a killing selling my services, but people would learn that beauty really is only skin deep.
