Channel five news in the UK isn't one of the best but they have recently done an investigation into the more sordid side of Second Life.

I'd urge you to watch all three reports, it's sickening that people look on the internet as 'Not Real' and think they can actually get away with this stuff. Now I know it's easy to say that the internet isn't real, but just sit back and think about it. How many of us on here would actually meet or talk in 'The Real World' TM.
Not many I'm betting, is that friendship you have built up with so and son in Outer Mongolia any less real than the one you have with you High School buddies, or the guys you go bowling with? No. So why should the excuse of 'It's not real' hold when your talking about kids and places like Second Life. .

I feel disturbed. Yet glad I watched that.

Sorry but I can't see what is shocking. So we have two adults that take part in an extreme example of ageplay what is the harm with that? I would much more have a person that turns on on this stuff to play it out in Second Life than in RL.

If it had been adults that played with children in that way then I would have been more upset but as it is not then I think it falls into the same category as novels and cartoon about sex with children and as long as a thought isn't harming someone else I am against outlawing it. If you don't like it don't read/watch it.

Note: This is not to be read as I'm against the rules on this site as they are for Vekseid to decide (and this I have said a few time in the past).

Well, I think the point that the news was trying to make was that if these peds are stimulated like this online they're very likely to be doing it in real life.

But being a parent of a small child I can't even watch a movie were a child is harmed in any way because I can't take it.  I have a real issue with pediphilia.

I do stay away from things that have that content though because I know it upsets me.

I met 'Lalinda', the creator of 'Wonderland' in Second Life once. She(he?) called me intolerant for not wanting to cyber with her after I saw she's playing a child avatar. I felt sickened then as well and told her to fuck off.

But this report doesn't make me happy at all. I'd wish the pedophiles to be gone from SL, sure. I don't want to risk being sickened. But I don't believe those people deserve to be imprisoned just for what they did in SL. (investigating them for having real child porn photos would make sense, though)

Now, when the report touched the matter of 'rape roleplay' and 'torture', I'm quite pissed. I'm not ashamed to admit I played an (of course adult) rape victim or a non-consentual torturer quite often. Pedophiles be damned, but I don't trust the 'net police' to be open-minded towards everything else that can be done in SL. Lots of people I know in SL, who certainly don't want to see pedophiles in SL are still very concerned that 'they will be next', and I'm not suprised that they are.

I'm not saying they should be locked up for what they did online only if in real life they are doing these things.

I also felt a cord pulled when they started talking about non-con and torture. . .if it's between concenting adults then what's wrong with it?  But then we get the peds saying we're all adults here even if we are playing child avis.  That's different in my mind because I do not approve of such things.  I just don't know how to defend non-con and torture without making it seem that what these peds are doing online is ok. . .

The big problem with it that two people playing online a torture/death fantasy is more or less the same thing as if they where playing a game of child ageplay. Both are a fantasy acted out in a virtual life and you can bet the moment you outlaw one fantasy then more will follow, because where are you to draw the line? And who are the one that is to draw it?

Pedophiles? Ok... Necrosex? Snuff? Rape? Torture? Animal sex? Furry? Homosexuality? Violence?

To me this sounds very much the debate about pornography in Sweden in the 60s.

My stance on it is simple, though probably not too intellectually sophisticated.

"We're consenting adults. We've got the right to pretend rape and maim ourselves both in real life and in virtual worlds. In real life, we want pedophiles to be locked up because kids can't consent. In virtual worlds, we want pedophiles gone because we can't stand their presence. Our adult rape and torture roleplay do not make us rapists and torturers. If virtual pedophilia creates real pedophiles we don't know because we're not pedophiles."

ShrowdedPoet

It's actually pretty good argument.  If in real life two consenting adults want to play torture and rape that's not illigal but if in real life a ped wants to take a child then that is illigal.  Makes good sense to me.
