I am currently running a game and pan on starting a second. I also intend on correcting mistakes from my first game.

1. Looking for an even mix of male and female characters [4-6]
2. Advanced warning that I dislike combat. But make sure someone can do the fighting, because it will still be there.
3. Due to the nature of the tomb I will be a bit hypocritical. My descriptions of rooms will be quick and short, but I expect detail from you when you make search rolls or walk down a hallway. Give a detailed search description and a dice roll if you want to get more info out of me.
4. I and you will put the name of anyone that needs to respond before forward movement can be made. That/those person/s has three days to post or they will get puppeted. Three consecutive puppeteering episodes and the character will be found dead. [only list people that need to respond to you directly]

ex. There are three doors before you, each at different levels of deterioration. They are the only way forward. [All]
p1- 'Hey dwarf, why don't you check them out. I trust your eyes better then my own." [p2 and gm]
p2- 'aye' He moves toward each of the doors standing in front of each, from left to right running a finger along the door moldings. [search 12 +5/ Gm]
GM- (details about the deterioration, find a slender curved key above second door and make a fortitude roll from the poisoned plant crawling up the third door. ) [details like running fingers along moldings can cause both good or bad things]

5. if you use out of character knowledge to your advantage, it will backfire.
6. You are always free and encouraged to discuss the direction of the rp.

7. Sex will be a factor. magic dildos, sexually voracious skeletons, giant tentacles mass. However, there will be a separate thread for it, after three days, unless everyone is somehow involved.
8. Death will be a factor. it is completely possible that you will die. Or be subjected to torture.
9. while writing this, i have decided we can go ahead and add a male player or two to the already active game.
10. I don't care what you do, but my limits are simple, no waste play, underage, or m/m. Keep in mind that I treat male characters and any character played by a male the same.

Sounds intresting. Always wanted to play ToH. I'm in.

Will think of my character and post later. Will probably be a Sorcerer

Hmm, I am interested in this. What restrictions or anything i need to know about character creation.

ofDelusions

I would also be interested. Dragonfire adept if possible.

who149

What level characters do we make btw?

Level 9, 4d6 best 3. One reroll.

Restriction is minimal, but if the character turns out to be broken I will fight back

This got more responses more quickly then I expected.

Looks good to me.

As for equipment, pick it out and run it by me. I'm not too picky,  my last game the majority of players was nude by the third room.

Sethala

I'm interested.  Unfortunately, my understanding of 3.5 is somewhat shaky (played a little bit, but I don't have much for books aside from the PHB), would you or one of the other players mind giving me advice about what feats/items/etc to pick?

The last sentence in the first post confuses me a bit though, can you elaborate?  I tend to almost exclusively play female PCs, would that be a problem here?

who149

Ok. I Gave him some stuff.  Is it good?

And sethala- What kind of character are you going with?

I probably won't help, since I already have an idea of what feats throw a monkey wrench into my traps, so I don't ant to recommend them, or avoid recommending them. But class and race do tend to give people an idea what to recommend.
----------

Also, why is this lacking the female interest  the last game brought?

Sethala

I think I'd like to go with a heavy melee type, or at least someone that can swing a huge weapon without problems.  I'm going to see if I can find more supplemental stuff for 3.5 before I think about it too much more, though.

Ironwolf85

I've gotten used to pathfinder but 3.5 might not be bad to go back too.
I've had a hankering to play a Soulknife (psionic class) Lizardman... not exactly sure how to do that.
if i can't do a psion then maybe a cleric?
i steer away from fighters in 3.5 simply because I like technical fighters and without CMB VS CMD you have to look up a bunch of special rules.
that one change made fighters fun for me
for those who don't know
CMB is Combat Manuver Bonus: Str mod + Base Attack - size mod (small size is a disadvantage)
CMD is Combat Manuver Defence, it works like armor class : Str mod + Dex mod + Base Attack - Size mod + 10

all special stuff like trips, disarms, and grapples, are CMB Vs CMD
feats like Improved trip give a + 2 Misc bonus and negate the attack of oportounity.

figured it might be good to bring up since there will be a lot of "grappling" I'm guessing.

Sethala, I can help you build a character if you need help.  :-)

Totally undecided what I will be playing myself.

Sethala

Excellent, thanks.

I'm thinking I'll go with straight Fighter, unless there's a good prestige class in a supplement I'm not aware of.  As for race... since sex is going to be prevalent, I'm probably going to be picky and stick with a "pretty" race, so either human or elf, again unless there's another option in a supplement.

ofDelusions

Human is one of most universally useful races in the game. Bonus feat and skill points are never bad.

How about a Warblade? From Tome of battle. Its basically a fighter with more options in both combat and out of combat. You could say its Wotc's figther remake or a fix. The main thing is that a warblade has more options available to him each turn than "I charge" or "I full attack".

Of course if you dont want to learn a whole new system (the manouvers) standard fighter should work. If you want to just swing a big weapon and deal lots of damage you might want to take feats that boost your charging. Things like leap attack and shock trooper. Perhaps level or two of barbarian for Pounce and rage.

IF you want to punch people into the walls to deal extra damage a dungeon crasher (from dungeonscape) would be good.

Sethala

Found a download for the Tome of Battle...

This warblade looks very interesting.  Seems like it's pretty much the precursor to 4E's encounter powers.  I still have to read through everything, but I think I'll go with this.  If you could suggest any specific maneuvers, I'd appreciate it.

BigBuckBob

Looked into it a bit.

Soulknife approved.

And Sethala what I meant in is that a female character played by a male falls into the m/m category for me.  [not completely, but enough to change the games tone if we don't start getting female interest.]

So any sexual elements are currently going to be PC on PC.  Or, if playing a female character, directed at ofDelusions

Many people say that ToB was a playtest for 4e. Don't know which specific manouvers to suggest, will look into it tomorrow.

Eh, admittedly that's rather disappointing, but I can understand.

Anyway, reading through some of these maneuvers, I think I like some of the Tiger Claw ones.  Probably go with that, maybe a few mountain dragon ones as well, wielding a greatsword.

Just to make sure I'm understanding the rules properly though, at level 9 I get +9/+4 to base attack bonus, so if I take a full-round action I get to make two attacks, but if I only use a standard action (and say, use a move action before attacking), I only get one attack at +9, yes?  And I can take both a swift action and a 5' step before the full-round action and still get both attacks, right?  For these maneuvers that take a standard action to use, is there any way for me to also get my second attack in the same round?

Yes and no that I know of.

By the way, BBB, do you want us to use the online roller for stats?

Ironwolf85

the main problem is doing it in 3.5 I've never done one in that system and it's my first character for the class.
I usually have trouble with 3.5 since my group switched to pathfinder... it feels... clunkier?
anyway I've looked through my books on Pdf, and found that I don't have it, so that is out unless someone wants to help me, I still wanna do a psion lizardman.
it's just going to actually take some working.
if all else fails my warforged paladin is on standby

Still in progress, but here's Aureana's character sheet: http://plothook.net/RPG/profiler/view.php?id=8870

Currently I'm in the middle of picking feats, then I still need to pick maneuvers and stances, and get equipment.  I noticed that both Stone Dragon and Tiger Claw favor greataxes, so that'll be my weapon of choice, at least to start out (Warblades can spend an hour training with a weapon to change all weapon focus/weapon specialization feats to that weapon, and I count as having Fighter levels equal to 2 less than my Warblade level for feat prereqs).

not necessary to use a roller I can check, I'll take your word for it.

I use a system to add chance and variety, I mostly care about what makes sense for the characters and the story. If you plan on fudging a roll, tell me why and the original result. If you plan on fudging all your rolls, then don't bother joining a system game to begin with.

------
Aureana- so far so good.  Try to find a picture, helps me separate her from the player.

------
Ironwolf- I generally find the 'pathguy' character generators help smooth the process.

Fair enough, though I already used the forum roller.

If you don't mind though, I'm going to reroll the 1 and 2 I got for hit dice (on a d12).

Also, can you give me a ballpark figure for how much gold I should spend on equipment?

BigBuckBob

Certainly.

And let's say 40k.

Alright, I'm done picking my maneuvers and stances.  Tomorrow, I'll find some magic items.

If anyone's got some suggestions for what I should/shouldn't get for maneuvers, though, let me know.

Iron heart surge is always awesome. Even if it is worded REALLY badly.

I am pretty sure I am going for beguiler unless someone else makes a skillmonkey. In which case I am still undecided.

Sethala

Hm, that would probably be useful.  I don't think I'll keep it in my readied maneuvers, but I do have the Adaptive Style feat, so I can spend a full-round action to change and recharge my readied maneuvers.

Also, are there any feats that let me use a large-size weapon without penalties?

Sethala

Finally found a picture for myself:

Alright, I still want  some additional female interest, but I think we have a decent party in the works.

So we need to figure out why our characters are all headed to the Tomb together, Any suggestions on how/why your character is interested in the Tomb?  Siddra has to go to get some answers.

ofDelusions

I was thinking of making an unarmed swordsage (think fairly supernatural monk, perhaps a handmaiden or bodyguard to Siddra or some another char?) but it seems that we REALLy need someone with ways to find to traps (this is still tomb of horrors after all..) so I am still a bit undecided.

And yes, my choice of class changes a lot during character making.

inflatetress

Delusions- you should be whatever class you think you'd have the most fun playing.  If BBB decides we really need someone for traps he'll reopen the thread to new players (probably?).  But if you don't like your class then you won't have fun so just pick whatever is calling out to you, at least that's what I say!

As for her job, Siddra wouldn't have a handmaiden, and in a sense all of the characters will be her body guard as basically she has been sent on a mission by her Sisterhood to the Tomb.  She needs to find people to go with her or people that just happen to be going that she can tag along with as the Sisterhood is made up only of seductresses, no body guards or anything like that.

So the way I see it, all of the other PCs could know each other and be planing to go to the Tomb to extract some of it's treasures to which Siddra tags along.  Or, Siddra has to convince a bunch of adventurers to take her to the Tomb. Or some combination of those two ideas.

ofDelusions

Heh, you are right. Unarmed Swordsage it is!

inflatetress

Cool!  I have no idea what that is though.  ???

So, more newbie questions...

Mithral armor is one weight category lighter, and has 3 less armor check penalty.  Does this change to the armor check penalty stack with the bonus from being masterwork, so a masterwork mithral armor has an armor check penalty of 4 less?  And, does the change in weight category also change what the move speed penalty is (i.e. normally breastplate is medium armor and gives a speed of 20ft, does mithral breastplate give a speed of 30ft since it counts as light armor?)

I might change my mithral chain shirt to a breastplate, depending on if I'm understanding these rules properly, but otherwise I'm done with equipment.

I would still like to know if there's a feat or something that will let me use a Large-size weapon without penalty, though.  (My character's fighting style involves jumping at/over an enemy and attacking them from the air.  Doing so with a sword bigger than she is would just be awesome.)

ofDelusions

Quote from SRD

"Most mithral armors are one category lighter than normal for purposes of movement and other limitations." So yes

And I think the decreases of armour check penalties would stack as well.

About Large sword. I think there is a feat for that somewhere. Don't remember where though.

My character will be Beguiler1/Wizard4/Ultimate magus 4. Only things left to go are skills, items and trying to find something to trade that familiar for or dump it all together.

Is there still room in this?

I'm interested in playing a male binder who wants to learn more about the Tomb's creator.  Incidentally, the Tomb's creator is a powerful demon that binders can bind.

Instead of a binder, I think I will probably go with a Factotum 8/Chameleon 1.  Please let me know if there is still room in this campaign.

ANy other thoughts on how our characters have come to group up?

ofDelusions

The group of murdering hobos adventurers hired to protect you while you are investigating the tomb sounds best to me.

No, sorry.  Thanks.  I'll withdraw interest.

Ok, edited my character sheet a bit.  I think I'm set, aside from backstory and physical description.  BBB, if you could check off my items for me, I ended up spending 42,200g not counting mundane item costs.

Anyway, backstory outline: Aureana was part of a nomadic people.  Her tribe was skilled with acrobatics, and incorporated jumps, leaps, tumbles, and so on into their way of attacking.  She was exiled from her tribe for some reason (possibly related to the death of an important member of the clan, maybe her partner in an arranged marriage).  Her tribes rules involve giving everyone that is exiled a quest to redeem themselves.  Her quest was to find a legendary weapon that one of the tribes' ancestors wielded, and return it to them.

While it is customary to give everyone exiled a quest like this, it is not always customary to send them after something that actually exists.  Several times a peson's "quest" was to retrieve something that never actually existed.  Aureana's aware of the possibility, but she still pursues the weapon out of honor.  Regardless, she has heard many rumors and gone many places in search of the weapon, but has yet to find anything solid.  Right now, her most promising lead places the weapon in Acerack's tomb, so she has set out to find a group to accompany her.

(It doesn't matter to me whether the weapon is in the tomb or not.  If BBB wants to come up with a weapon for her to actually find, that's fine, otherwise I'll make up details in a bit.)

Also, since I'm not familiar with the math in 3.5, how much AC does a normal monster have at this level?

inflatetress

So looks like the characters were hired to escourt and protect Siddra on her mission, I went ahead and posted so we'll meet up first before heading to the Tomb!

Sethala- that really depends on the monster...it's AC.  But I'm sure you'll be fine hitting things!

Sethala

Well, I'm more familiar with 4th, and I know that at level 9 most enemies have around 22-25 AC, more if they're elites or solos, but I also know that defenses and attacks scale very differently in both games, so... yeah.

BigBuckBob

An item that does not exist sounds like the sort of thing I woud include when crafting an exile story. But the tomb seems the kind of place where you might end up finding it anyway. So, let's say you already quested for the item in enemy lands and reached the conclusion that they never took it. So rather then continue fighting them you opted to set out to find someone that could recreate an item like the one described,

The only problem with that is, how do I connect "finding someone that can replicate it" to "going to the Tomb of Horrors"?  Sure, whoever I found might require that I go there in order to get... something, but that just seems like a stretch.  Which is why I figured she heard a rumor that the item she's looking for is in the Tomb; even if it doesn't exist she's going to keep searching for it anyways.

Anyway, once I get the details for my backstory ironed out, I'll make an IC post.

Glancing at few of the monsters in SRD with CR of around 7-12 and all of them had AC between 18-20. So feel free to Power attack to your hearts desire :P

Sounds good!  Unless I'm mistaken (BBB?) you guys can feel free to post in the game thread!  Siddra is waiting!

Sethala

Well, it seemed like BBB might have had some plans for my backstory, so I'm holding off for now.  Also, I want to make sure there's no issues with my equipment before I post, since I don't want to describe an item I don't actually have...

BigBuckBob

i was only making suggestions.  inflatetress is the only back story I'm playing with behind the scenes, but that has more to do with the sisterhood as a whole then individual characters.

and everything I have seen so far, i approve of.

Ah, I misunderstood what you said before, then.  I'll whip up an IC post pretty soon.

Sethala

So, who all do we have playing already, and are we holding out for any other players?

BigBuckBob

As much as i enjoy Abbott and Costello i'll say this clearly. We are waiting on Who and Ironwolf.

both of which we will be leaving without if they do not respond by sunday. [monday is my day off, so I'm pushing this forward.]

Ok, sounds good.  Another friend of mine just recently showed up again though, and I think she'd be interested in this, so I'm gonna point it out to her real quick.

So, do we have anyone capable of healing spells with us?  Just realized this isn't like 4E, where any character can easily heal themselves outside of battle (to an extent, at least)... might need to add some healing potions to my character sheet >.>

Also, I forgot to list mundane equipment, so I'm gonna do that now if you don't mind.

I have a wand of lesser vigor (cure light wounds is so pre spellcompendium) and high UMD. That can up to 550 hp. Should be enough.
