Modern Fairy Tale

I really like a new RPG system Ive fixated on.  I want to give it a quick test spin around the block.  I want something light... something quick... something fun... something ICONS.

Now a few words on ICONS.  This is a very simple system kind of based on a simplified grading level based Marvel Superheroes game back from the eighties.  Now add the Aspect mechanic used by the FATE system, and now you have ICONS.  This makes it a relatively easy to play and making characters is a breeze.  I especially want to see how the versatile power Wizardry from Great Powers might play out.  If you enjoy RPGs but find most d20 systems too constricting to the story... this might be youre cup of tea.  Imagine making a character with only six Abilities... a few notes on what they are good  at and what kind of powers they have.  Describe a few Aspects or cliched characteristic phrases for your character... this can be done in play if your still looking for inspiration.  Before you can say 'Excelsior'... you can have any character you could want.

Now why DC comics?  I am a true Marvelphile.  But... recently Ive been watching some of the DC Animated Universe television shows and thinking... 'You know... I could get into that again.'  There are some fun things about the DC universe... how they handle magic... Wonder Woman, the coolest femenist ever... Doom Patrol (a cross between Fantastic Four and X-Men... really)... plus of course we get to start new characters from the ICONS own stuff or something original.  Having it fitted into an established universe just makes it simpler to start everyone on the same page.

'The Brave and the Bold' started as a way to take smaller title characters and team them up together in new ways.  It started with 'Robin Hood' and 'Silent Knight' and other tales of more adventurous times.  Then someone started it as a team up of the sidekicks of the main heroes of the DC univers and the Team Titans were born.  Then they began new combinations... the longest run was a team up with the Dark Knight always in the mix because the Batman animated series was doing so well at the time.  I think this could be a fun way to frame our storyline.

We dont have to be that traditional about things... this is our own Earth... so on this world... Martian Manhunter doesnt exist.  He just bothers me.  Unless I feel like having him as the bald headed green skinned bitch at the end of a mission needing to be rescued like a princess in a Mario game or something.  New versions of whatever we want... whatever we dont want to include is either nonexistent or busy somewhere else.  If such possibilities existed, where would you want to set such a story.

Important conciderations are the desire to make the story feel like a DC Animated Universe story.  I want to use the Universe creation system in the new ICONS Team-UPs book.  So we can create a few characters and use the ones which interest us then... or make disposable NPCs I can use as support or sidekicks and such.  We will make storyline Features as well.  Id like to use the Stark City tools as well, so together we can actually create settings and characters which interest and inspire us.  So we could, for example, play a Teen Titans game.  Play a few of the characters from the show.  Maybe play add an odd character or two to the mix.  Then make a few fun badguys for each other... or let me do it.  We have like 306 DC characters to select from.  We could even lay out the Tower... or at least set up a few Aspected rooms and stats in case a fight breaks out there.

Are you intrigued?

PM me if you are interested.  Also let me know where your thoughts are on setting, characters, favorite DC titles and themes, if you want some of this game to be in an adult section or not, etc.  I would like to work several of you into one story with everyone's input having weight in this world.  Thanks for reading through my rather long post.

Remember to Always Be the Hero.

Bonus idea.  What if most of the superheroes of the world are killed in some cosmic conflagration... and it takes a collection of second rate villians to protect the world from worst villians... like Brainiac or a Joker with a lantern power ring.  What if Catwoman, Toy Man, and Clayface had to team up with one of the few heroes left, Zatanna.  Might have a nice twist.
She again rubbed a match on the wall, and the light shone round her; in the brightness stood her old grandmother, clear and shining, yet mild and loving in her appearance. "Grandmother," cried the little one, "O take me with you; I know you will go away when the match burns out; you will vanish like the warm stove, the roast goose, and the large, glorious Christmas-tree." And she made haste to light the whole bundle of matches, for she wished to keep her grandmother there. And the matches glowed with a light that was brighter than the noon-day, and her grandmother had never appeared so large or so beautiful. She took the little girl in her arms, and they both flew upwards in brightness and joy far above the earth, where there was neither cold nor hunger nor pain, for they were with God.
