The American Patriot

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for a female writing & gaming partner who likes working in modern day settings. The game could be freeform or use the d20 modern system, either one works for me. I just want to get a chance to game and write with someone who loves to write as much as I do.

I've got a lot of ideas for several different games, and I am open for even more ideas and possiblities.

The Angry Angels (a d20 Modern Military Campaign)

With the aftermath of the September 11th Terror attacks, the United States Army realized that they would be unable to deal with a world-wide threat with the massive draw-downs of the Clinton Administration and requested permission to use the increase in recruitment to rebuild their strength to pre-Clinton Administration levels. But to best deal with the new threats the US Army chose to reinstate six airmobile Infantry Divisions that could be readily deployed to hotspots around the world. But several Senators chose to politicize the re-commissioning of these divisions by attaching riders that finally allowed women into the Combat Arms starting with commissioned officers in 2007 and Enlisted personnel in 2008. In 2006 the president reactivated those divisions that had been decommissioned during the Clinton Administration. Due to the increased threat levels around the world the US Armed Forces under went a renaissance that they had not seen since the Reagan Administration, growing not only in size, but in technological advancements. With the rising tensions between Venezuela and Columbia over the discovery that the Venezuela was now openly suppling anti-government rebels, the United States deploys the 11th Infantry (Air Assault) Division to provide support for the Columbian government.

One of the first divisions to be recommissioned to act as the testbed for female combat personell would be the 11th Infantry (Air Assault) Division 'The Angry Angels'. The 11th Infantry (Air Assault) Division 'Angry Angels' headquarters in Columbia has been nicknamed 'Camp Angel' since the 11th ID has such a high percentage of female personnel.

The female player will get to be one of the first female airborne infantry officers to graduate from West Point whom will be assuming her first command. The 3rd platoon of Baker Company, 3rd-511th Infantry Regiment (Parachute). She and her platoon that has been assigned to work in support for a special operations detachment during the Global War on Terror. A detachment that has become known as the 'Death Dealers' under the command of CW3 Spaight.

Or she can play an Embedded Journalist assigned to showcase the first combat female personnel, showing all of the trails and hardships that these women will under take fighting on the frontlines.

The "Independence Day Massacare" (A d20 Modern Year of the Zombie campaign)

This setting wouldn't be a game for the squeamish.. It would have bits form each of the various 'types' of YotZ campaigns... Equal parts of the Dark and Gritty, Heroic and Cinematic styles of play... Almost all of the rules from the Dark and Gritty style of play will be in effect. Most especially that you will have to keep track of your supplies and ammo. From the Heroic style of play the PCs are going to be HEROES and use the Hero templates and advanced classes, this also means that there will also be major NPCs who are also going to get the Hero Templates and Advanced Classes. And from the Cinematic style of play those with heroic template will be given a saving throw against the infection being spread form a bite (a Fort DC 15 allows you to survive, but you carry the infection and when you die with an intact brain you WILL reanimate... While a Fort DC of 20 means you are someone that the researchers working for the CDC and USAMRID wants to have a chance to poke and prod).

In the background there is growing stresses between FEMA authorities and the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff. Namely in that both the President and Vice President have chosen to seek shelter with the US Armed Forces instead of one of the FEMA controlled presidential bunkers (the Vice President is currently in NORAD, and the President on a Carrier Battle Group in the Atlantic meeting with the surviving leaders of the nations effected nations)... This rift is only evident at the higher levels where the President is having trouble getting FEMA to follow his directives during the recovery of the United States. The most evident example of this rift has been shown when apparent communications problems between the President and the Congressional Continually of Government Bunkers have been traced back to the FEMA authorities at the Mt. Weather command and control facilities.

Players could be form any of the normal kind of backgrounds for a 'Year of the Zombie' game...

Personnel form the Special Forces from each of the branches of the US Armed Forces (and sometimes even foreign governments) have been selected to create add-hoc extraction teams to rescue persons of importance form the hostile environment created by the Reanimated Life Forms, as well as other 'mundane' threats. All under the ever watchful eyes of their Embedded Journalist who's reporting back everything they do in an attempt to build public morale...

There are teams of researchers from the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (originally based out of Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD) that have been set up all around the United States in protected hospitals/clinics to continue their research. These teams answer to the Department of Defense and the President of the United States directly.

And there are also teams of researchers from the Center for Disease Control (originally based in Atlanta GA) that have been set up all around the United States in protected hospitals/clinics to continue their research. Unfortunately, the majority of them now answer only to FEMA officials and not to the President...

Civilians form an established survivor communities that are unable (or unwilling) to be evacuated to fortified government shelters...

Federal, State or Local Government Officials trying to get to the safety of a Fortified government shelter...

Civilians who are just trying to find any kind of shelter form the outbreak...

US Troops that are returning from overseas attempting to find and relocate their families to the US Armed Forces created Safe Zones...

Surviving members of the early 'Sweep and Clear' Teams that are continuing their mission to eradicate as many reanimates as possible...

The possibilities are of course endless!

Weekend Warriors (a d20 Modern Military Horror campaign)

This is a 12-to-Midnight modern military horror adventure module... It is the first of two modules, the second module is 'Fire in the Hole' and follows up on what happened in 'Weekend Warriors.' There is a third module called 'Innana’s Kiss' that follows the unit a year later taking part in a sortie during Operation Iraqi Freedom to track down several mysterious leads.

One weekend a month and two weeks out of the year. That's what they say -- but with the need for troops in the middle east, you've been called up for active duty stateside. Well, it could be worse, right? After all, what could possibly go wrong while guarding a remote military research installation in the New Mexico desert?

Camp Trepidation is a vintage World War II barracks set in the remote New Mexico desert. This facility can accommodate a battalion in its old two story wooden buildings. The only two-story brick buildings on the base are the Battalion Headquarters and the Armory. Other facilities include a Battalion Mess Hall, a PX, Motor Pool, Facilities Engineers, and an Ammo Dump. There is also a large parade field and a gym with an adjacent sports field.

Facing decommissioning on more than one occasion, the base has gained newfound security since becoming the home to a top-secret Nuclear Biology Chemical (NBC) Warfare Laboratory. The lab is a long, one-story, windowless brick building rumored to have a basement. This extensive lab is staffed entirely by civilian scientists who rarely fraternize with the soldiers on base—soldiers who sometimes seem part guards and part jailers.

What no one knows, including the soldiers is that the scientists have been studying the reanimation of dead flesh for use in a combat environment. Surprisingly, their experiments have proved successful beyond their wildest dreams. Not only can critically injured soldiers be kept alive until EVAC, but also the recently dead can be temporarily reanimated. Although these “zombies” are both violent and immune to pain—features favorable on the battlefield—the scientists have not discovered a way to control them. Small-scale exercises in South America resulted in a 100% casualty rate from “friendly forces”.

Behind these “scientific” studies are creatures from another plane of existence. Although they have no formal human names, scientists refer to them as reanimators and death shriekers. Desiring new worlds to conquer, they are meddling in our own, seeking to create ideal conditions for their crossing. Today these creatures have crossed over. Tomorrow is up to you.

The Players are a single squad that is part of the 12th Battalion of the 224th Infantry Regiment...

'Innana’s Kiss' (d20 Modern Military Horror)

Over 5,000 years ago, the Sumerians believed their gods came to the Earth and took up residence. Sumerians, Akkadians, Assyrians, and Persians worshipped these early gods and goddesses. Then, suddenly, the religion of the Sumerians died. This blood soaked land, conquered by countless invaders has changed rulers many times, but the legends of the Sumerian myths remained to haunt the inhabitants of this land. Warfare and death are their fate, a never-ending cycle of terror and horror, from one regime to the next. But now the Americans have arrived… and things will change. One way or the other, things will change.

Over 5,000 years ago, several Alien beings landed in ancient Sumeria and set themselves up as Gods over the humans populating the area. Every need of these beings were seen to by their human priests, and in return for their obedience, the humans were given “gifts” of civilization. These secrets included working with Bronze, and Cuneiform writing. Over the millenniums since, most of these alien beings, such as Ea, left Earth. However, one has remained, Innana, the Goddess of Life and Death. In reality Innana is a scientist, who has developed methods of stealing the life auras of humanity to prolong her life and to fuel her experiments. These experiments include the creation of new and deadly creatures that serve her. Since Sargon I conquered Sumeria, every ruler of this land has paid tribute to Innana. This consists of sacrifices made by her Priests at her Temple of “Yemma D. Alaam” (Dark Mother.) The ancients and even the Saddam regime refer to her as the “Al-IImran al-Baqarah” or “Bringer of Fire and Hell.” When these sacrifices were not made, Innana allowed her unholy creations to run loose. They would brought fear and death to the people of the Middle East. When appeased and pleased with the sacrifices, she granted these rulers gifts of technology. Saddam offered sacrifices hoping to receive a gift from Innana, one that would destroy his enemies and allow him to become the new Gilgamesh of Mesopotamia. This weapon awaits him at Innana’s temple, currently hidden in the Room of Sacrifice. The Americans’ swift victory, prevented him from receiving this weapon, though recent intelligence suggests that Mihr al-Quirba, a Captain of the Fedayeen Saddam and wanted terrorist, has taken a group of men to the village of Al-Baqarah to attain it. The heroes’ mission is to seek out the Fedayeen and destroy them. The Intel officer has top-secret orders that require him to locate the “special package”, listed in captured documents. HQ believes that this item may be a WMD. An NBC detachment will deploy to the area if WMDs are found. Simple reconnaissance mission, right?

Rogue Night (a Rogue 417/d20 Modern Military Horror campaign)

As the flask of Rogue 417 smashed to the lab floor the technician quickly flooded the area with a bucket of antiseptic and called for help. But this was the Middle East, a savage war zone where special equipment, trained personnel and ultra modern containment technology are lacking when desperation forces half trained biochemists to create new weapons for terrorism. The technician died within hours and Rogue 417 was loose in the world to scythe a path of destruction and madness that was unparalleled in history. Rogue 417 is a campaign setup for any Post Holocaust RPG. This book can be used with Tri Tac’s Bureau 13 or Fringeworthy, as well as Timeline’s Morrow Project. In Tri Tac’s Ultimate Armageddon Guides you will find a wealth of data and detail for game play as well as many new ideas and utility for the GM.

Rogue 417 is an old PAW campaign setting that was designed by the creator of the Morrow Project, and the effects of Rogue 417 reminds me alot of the Will Smith movie 'I Am Legend'... And I really would love a chance to get to play something like this.

The players would be a single squad assigned to protect a fortified building during the early days of the Rogue 417 virus, assigned to protect and hold that building at all costs.

Star Wars (a RCR d20 Star Wars campaign)

I would love to get a chance to get to play Val-EL Hiraaguun, a Jedi Knight Investigator (adult Human male Jedi Consular 4/Jedi Investigator 3/Jedi Weapons Master 1). I've not got to play him since they closed down Living Force campaign, would have loved a chance to play him in the Dawn of Defiance campaign.

The Game Mechanics 'The Bronze Head Campaign' (a d20 Modern Fantasy setting)

The Bronze Head is a modern fantasy setting. The wonderful, the macabre, and the unbelievable exist alongside the mundane, and always have. Creatures from myth and legend lurk in our cities, but only a select few, like the heroes, have the ability and the will to see the fullness of this reality. Occult research produces astounding results that masquerade as super science. Hidden in ancient texts are scraps of once-common arcane lore, and those who know of magic’s existence compete for every bit of it.

In The Bronze Head campaign, most people see kobolds as deformed children, bugbears as steroidguzzling professional athletes, and dragons as some kind of super-secret Air Force aircraft. Their minds cannot accept the depth and breadth of the world’s true nature, so they unconsciously edit what they perceive to make it mundane and safe. Many of the strange creatures that live among us take advantage of this phenomenon of misperception, called Shadow, to get jobs and succeed in ordinary ways. Others, however, take advantage of it to get away with horrible crimes. This campaign combines elements of horror, modern fantasy, and suspense. Not every hideous creature is a monster, and not every ordinary human is innocent or weak. The adventures in this setting provide opportunities for investigation, combat, research, and discovery.

These are important features of the campaign setting, summarized for your convenience: The Fantastic Exists: Monsters like those in Chapter Eight: Friends and Foes in the d20 Modern Roleplaying Game are all around the heroes, often doing the most mundane things like grocery shopping, picking up dry cleaning, or shining shoes. Magic also exists, and some talented individuals can learn to cast spells. Shadow Obscures: Most people are blissfully unaware of these things, and those who insist that the powerful biker is some kind of monster are quickly locked away and sedated. The Heroes Can See: Heroes are among the tiny minority of people who can both see reality and are willing to do something about it. The Time Approaches: Terrorism is on the rise. Life is dying in our oceans. The ozone layer is depleted. Drug-resistant diseases are spreading. The weather grows unpredictable and violent. At the same time, the number of people who can see through Shadow is growing. It’s very clear to Department-7 that something is happening, and whatever it is seems to be speeding up.

'Come for the Reaping': Behind high walls and guard posts, a converted sanatorium houses a secret research facility delving into "alternate technologies." Behind a respectable facade, agents of an ancient secret society work to decipher ancient texts they barely understand, hoping to glean a few arcane secrets from their vast collection of mystic tomes. A few nights ago, researchers with more ambition than skill tried summoning something from another reality. They got more than they bargained for....

'Slave Drivers': Slave Drivers is a modern d20 adventure in which heroes begin their investigations into an evil megacorporation called Ogdoad Research. The adventure starts with an automobile accident that reveals the use of undead as the new slave labor and uncovers links to a larger conspiracy.

'Flight 23': Flight 23 is a modern d20 adventure in which the heroes continue their investigations of the evil megacorporation Ogdoad Research. While following up a lead uncovered during their initial encounter with Ogdoad’s operations in Los Angeles (covered in Slave Drivers, the first adventure in this minicampaign), the heroes discover that the architect of Ogdoad’s latest scheme is fleeing the country. Giving chase, they find themselves aboard the same international flight as their quarry. This realization touches off a tense confrontation 30,000 feet above the Atlantic Ocean.

'The Brindisi Protocol': Are these the end times? Plague and pestilence have appeared all over the world, and nations are at each other's throats. And is Ogdoad Research somehow behind this apparent apocalypse? An Ogdoad insider wants to meet with the heroes--but the heroes' hands are tied as a congressional investigation into Department-7's activities puts them all under close scrutiny. The Brindisi Protocol is a modern d20 adventure in which the heroes continue their ongoing investigations of the evil megacorporation Ogdoad Research. After following one of Ogdoad’s computer scientists to Germany, the heroes have learned that Ogdoad is translating a cryptic medieval book into a modern computer code. But even as the heroes begin to close in on their quarry, world events suddenly become more intense and threatening, and Department-7 undergoes a congressional investigation. While they are thus cut off from their support structure, the heroes meet an Ogdoad insider, who tells them that the Ogdoad board of directors knows a lot more about recent world events than they’re letting on. The insider’s information leads the heroes to a private sanatorium in Italy, where Ogdoad CEO Augusto Fercilli is undergoing treatment for a mysteriously sudden illness.

Other misc. games that I would love to get a chance to play again

Battletech

Oberstleutenant (Lt. Colonel) Freiheerr (Baron) Jurgen Lehnsherr, the commander of 3rd Battalion (Lehnsherr's Uhlans) of the 6th Lyran Guards (The saucy sixth). A unit sent into the middle of the chaos march by Katerine Steiner-Davion to get a group of officers whose loyality to her is at question.

Dungeons & Dragons/Dragonlance...

Since Fantasy seems to be popular on here I have dusted off my Lawful Neutral Human mage, Hadrian who traveled with a female Halfling rogue who had appointed herself his 'protector' after he saved her life... I prefer the Dragonlance setting over the Forgotten Realms, but if someone wants to play in the Realms, I'd be more than interested.

Blue Planet

An ex-USN sailor who has been living on Posedion for almost five years, hired by the United States of America to act as a guide for the crew of a USN Swift Boat that is part of a squadron that has been assigned to protect American interest on the blue planet.

Silver Age Sentinels

The Patriot III is a third generation meta-human adventurer who has dedicaded his life to upholding the ideals of the founding fathers of the American Republic.

Sidewinder: Recoiled (d20 modern western)

Maj. Nathaniel Christian Spaight, an ex-Confederate Calvary Officer traveling throughout the west dealing with strange happenings, and acting as a champion for those whom have none.

Maj. Nathaniel Christian Spaight

Twilight: 2000: SSG Reuben Augustus Speight, a US Army Ranger Squad Leader in the middle of Poland trying to get back the Allied lines...

The Chronicles of the SGC (a Stargate: SG1 campaign)

CW3 Christian Alexander Spaight, a US Army Ranger recruited by the SGC to travel off-world to fight against the Goa'uld System Lords as the detachment 2iC of field team SG-13.

The OPI Files: A Shadow Chasers like campaign, but with the Office for Paranomral Investgiation and Investigation taking the place of Department 7. The OPI is alot like the BPRD from Hellboy, in that it's a hybrid military/civilian organization that acutally has paranormal working on the side of Humanity.

Jericho: A game that would be based on the CBS TV Show 'Jericho' but set in another town (either real or fictional)... And how the town survives the entire senerio as seen during the first season (and parts of the second) of the show.

The Morrow Project

The game is based around the idea that there was a group of industrialists who predicted the coming of an apocalyptic nuclear war, and began to create a plan for an emergency operations and reconstruction infrastructure that would survive that war. This plan is the eponymous "Morrow Project". A number of volunteers were cryogenically frozen in hidden bunkers ("boltholes"). There were provided with redundant caches of supplies and equipment, intended to help the teams rebuild civilization -- once the war had ended and the resulting nuclear fallout had diminished enough.

The plan was for the Morrow Project to be coordinated by a central command post and record-keeping facility called "Prime Base." This was a huge self-contained bunker hidden underground in Nevada. The advanced environmental recycling systems there were intended to allow Project oversight personnel not to sleep through the war -- so as to chronicle its every moment, and be in the best position to figure out what should be done next.

Prime Base was built and placed in isolation according to schedule. Just before it could assume its role, it was sabotaged and bombed by a shadowy madman called Krell, sustaining serious damage. The sudden attack wiped out the Morrow Project leaders, but 150 years after the war, the damaged central computer at Prime Base finally issued the wakeup signal. This revived at least one of the Morrow Project assets -- the Team that the player characters are on. The status of other Teams is purposefully kept unclear, so that details can be worked out by the leader of the players, who is called the Project Director.

One hundred and fifty years after the Third World War, the members of the Morrow Project wake to a strange world. Instead of being part of an organized plan to rebuild their civilization, they find themselves isolated in a world where the War is only a distant legend, the people are ignorant of anything but the struggle to survive and strange mutated animals haunt their footsteps. Players of the Morrow Project must not only survive but must carry out their original mission: to rebuild the world. To do this they have their equipment and training, their team and their own guts and imagination. Together with their teammates they must try to do alone a job that thousands were trained to do.

Likewise, the first one peaks my curiosity (and if you're open for making it more than just a one-on-one). Though you'd have missed the boat depending on the your level of pickiness on the matter of 'combat personal' - the female soldiers of the Lionness program and the first all-female airmen flying a combat mission in '05 and so on and etc. ;) As well, again, depending on your level of pickiness, you may want to avoid trope and learn more about the subject a bit more - West Point has been graduating female officers since 1980 with the current Army  Chief of Ordinance a Brigadier General and female, for example. ;)

Like I said, it peaks my curiosity and if you don't mind me busting your chops... :)

Sure.. I wouldn't mind if you join. I know about women officers, but i'm referring to front-line infantry combat personnel. I'm ex-Navy, and the ship i was assigned was the first to go co-ed, and we spent several millions retrofitting berthing spaces for female personnel. We're about to get our first female four-star general soon!

Since you're shooting for at least a bit of realism (or authenticity at any rate), as long as you're accurate enough not to make me go "Huh? But those are two completely different things!" or whatever... :) Might I point out though that being 5'8" and 118 is probably -not- particularly 'good' condition; I'm 5'4" and 120 in real life and I'm fairly scrappy - I'd be a lot heavier due to muscle mass if I had the same sort of training and lifestyle involved with the military!

The American Patriot

No problem...

Just consider the weight a typo.. if you want to use the character write up go for it. what name would you want for your character, and a little background history would you like?

Well, I'll see what RogueJedi has to say first.

RogueJedi

I have no problem with it being more than a one-on-one.  So, if you want to, join in!

I'll need names and backgrounds of both of your characters... We'll start the game with you both flying on a Blackhawk heliocopter transporting personnel to Camp Angel from Bogata. I've created a new thread on the small group board for our game, "Angry Angels" (Patriot1971, RogueJedi and Sagittary)

Sagittary, your character will be assuming command of the 3rd Platoon, Baker Company, 3rd-511th Infantry Regiment (Parachute), while RogueJedi's character will be one of the riflemen under your command.

>_< Last time I took command in a game, I ended up dropping an asteroid on to a colonized planet. Okay, so maybe that's an exaggeration - that game was a long time ago. But I did drop an asteroid on a planet.

And it's Rogue not Rouge. You put Rouge on your face. You put Rogue in handcuffs. ;) Though points for proper spelling the second time.

Is the Angry Angels game open to male players, or is it closed now?  I'd be interested in playing one of the riflemen, possibly a squad's sniper or something like that.  I've been looking to play a military-based game for a while now, and this one looks promising.

What do you two think?

What kind of stuff will I need to know as far as rules go?  I've never played a really strict rules-based game on here before.

I only use the character sheets for reference... the game will mostly be a freeform game. You said you wanted to play the platoon's 'Designated Marksman' (not a sniper yet, but the best shot in the unit who carries a special rifle to make those really hard shots). If you want, you could play the Platoon Sergeant, a Squad Leader or Fire Team Leader....

Colt M16 Squad Designated Marksman 5.56mm semiautomatic marksman rifle w/7 magazines.

welcome to the Army now aviationrox!

Let me know what position you want to play... Platoon Sergeant (SFC), Combat Field Medic (SPC), Forward Observer (SPC), Radio-Telephone Operator (SPC), Riflemen (PV2), grenadiers (SPC), automatic riflemen (PFC), MG Gunner (SPC), Assist. MG Gunner (PFC), MG Ammo Bearer (PV2).

If you really want to play a sniper, we can do that... Just have one of the Company Sniper teams working with the Platoon... I've decided that the sniper teams of the 11th Infantry Division (Air Assault) will be experimenting with a three person team similar to how several other militaries have ben doing. The positions in a 11th ID(AA) Sniper Team is as follows; Sniper (American Barrett Firearms Company M82A1/M107 ‘light fifty’ .50cal. bolt-action anti-materiel sniper rifle), Spotter/Observer (M16 5.56mm designated marksman rifle) and Flanker (M4 5.56mm carbine).

And we'll need your character's name and a little bit of background history so we can get started.

I'm working on the 'fact sheet' for the campaign to give a little bit of background info for the players...

I think playing the "designated marksman" would be perfect.  Do you need me to post my character's info directly onto the thread?
