Character is approved, however I would like to know why he has a military grade implant, as these are only available to military (or ex military) personnel? If you can come up with a satisfactory explanation, I will let it stand. You may PM me if you wish to keep it secret from the other players, or if you can't think of a reason. (I have a few options you could elaborate on if you wish).

Please check out my latest A/A post.

Will make the changes soon, thanks for the detailed input. I knew she was a bit over the top, but I wasn't quite sure where the line was going to be so I figured, go for broke and then it would be easier to dial her back. Thanks.

I suppose it's not important to me that it's a military implant, per se. But I think it's crucial that it uses an encrypted link, and that it has the hardwire port. I don't really care about the cybernetics interface or the gun link. Since the implant was installed by the geeks at The Institute, I was just assuming it was as good as they could put together for their purposes, and they're impressive eggheads. Is there a better term than "military grade" to cover what I'm looking for? You're correct that I don't see Eric as having been in the military in any capacity. His work for the Institute was more like a covert intelligence position for a small but highly technical independent nation.

If none of that works for you then we could postulate that he has rolled his own souped-up implant with custom encryption. I guess the bottom line is that if everyone has a computer in their head, and he's the computer guy, then I want his computer to stand out in some way. I'm open to suggestions along those lines that fit your view of the world.

Chrystal

How about replacing "military grade" with "customised", and add, "rendering it the equal of a military grade implant"?

I was also going to suggest, as number of possible explanations, having him in the "pseudo-military" of The Institute, Or have him be on the team who design and create the military grade implants for other armed forces, or even being the recipient of one of a batch of stolen military grade implants.

Take your pick...

Um, yeah, sorry if that was you. I don't accept random IM contacts. I have far too many people in my Flist whom I don't know who they are. If you want to talk prvately please use PMs?

I love this bit...

" He has developed a close attachment (for him) to IFFY, the IRON FIST AI, and a somewhat stickier and more troublesome relationship with Francine Littlejohn, IFFY's programmer."

IFFY is not above seducing the team's sysop and has been known to enjoy cybersex as much as a human, but equally she can be very touchy and likes her privacy! Franny is a blonde bombshell (pic base is Drew Barrymore!) but she is 100% gay and madly in love with the Major. She is also insanely jealous of Stack, but is petrified of her!

Sounds like some fun relationships. I can see Eric and IFFY having a (cyber)sexual relationship that he absolutely does not talk about with humans. This absolutely doesn't have to happen 'on camera', though -- not really the focus of this RP. With Franny there's probably more of a friendship / professional rivalry. Eric already has issues with human contact, so stepping anywhere near the Franny/Major/Stack triangle is definitely not where he wants to be.

In terms of other team members, would you prefer that we all meet each other for the first time at the mission briefing, or should some of us have worked together before and built up some history?

Thanks, that is perfect!

QuoteIn terms of other team members, would you prefer that we all meet each other for the first time at the mission briefing, or should some of us have worked together before and built up some history?

That is up to the players.

Feel free to discuss this here, or for preference in the OOC thread that I will be opening any day now...

HOWEVER: If you know each other, there has to be a logical reason why. This is NOT the first IF mission, so characters could have worked together before. Anne, Nikki and Frannie all know each other obviously.

This looks like a great team shaping up. We could use a couple more characters, but it isn't really necessary, and if the two players who have expressed an interest are able to fill those last two slots, I will get us up and running, STAT!

I'll finish up my character tomorrow, having a bit of a crisis with another thread of mine with extensive player dropout and as GM I have to steer that up, which means a lot of work.

Please do not post to the thread, but you are welcome to browse it. Any questions, please ask them of me via PM for the moment.

I will open an OOC thread, as soon as I get the mission briefing finished. Please be aware that it is a work in progress, and so there is much detail yet missing.

Managed to finish appearance at least before I had to go out again. Let's see if I can manage the bio once I come back.  ::)

Edit: Holy shit, finished and now wished I would have gone heavy!  ::) Live and learn.

Warlord Zanyl

#36
Player: Warlord Zanyl.
Name: Mark "TANK" Cain.
Actual Age: 40.
Apparent Age: 31.
Gender: Male.
Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Appearance: Stands at 6'3" with a pair of dark, gray eyes & auburn hair. No tattoos. No piercings.
Nationality: Melbourne.
Languages spoken: English, Malay & Japanese.
Modifications: Customized cranial implant (done by a convicted surgeon believed to be a terrorist with a defensive military background), with built in radar motion detector (up to a 200 meter radius) & electronic radar jamming system.

Mark's entire right arm (including the right shoulder, collarbone and a couple of rib bones) is replaced with a mechanical limb which enabled him to alter his (customized interface pad --done by the same man that did his cranial implant--) palm to almost any shape of a weapon's hand-grip for use, at a whim. The arm have chaff dispensing system and housed quarter of a dozen spider-like micro-sized unmanned units controlled via bluetooth when deployed by Mark. Obviously, the arm also grants him destructive power, capable of punching a hole through a wall or metals much weaker than his.
Specific skills and abilities: A tactician, weapons & hand-to-hand specialist.
Weapons and/or equipment: M2 50 cal. Browning, "Dragon Skin" (Kevlar) body armor & .500 S&W Magnum.
Weakness: Mark tends to be reckless with his strategies where although it might save his comrades out of tight situations, it may put him in deeper shit. His cybernetic arm too might be of no use should an EMP occur.
Personality: A man born to strongly believe that "it's a dog-eats-dog world out there", "the survival of the fittest". Therefore, he naturally evolved himself into a heartless beast. Putting nobody before him but himself, except for his missions.

Nonetheless, he won't hesitate to use others to get what he wants and he would feel no guilt whatsoever to get rid of them once it's over.
Despite so, he honors a certain code of conduct, one that ensured his employer that he can get the job done; his commitment.
Bio: Little is known about the man's past. There have been no records of his work. Mark was simply a ghost. Who knows just how many times he'd went under the needle and have his looks altered. His body should have been scarred with bullet holes and cuts yet, neither could be seen.

Was the rumor about him killing off the surgeons that'd did on him, true then? Was that the reason why there have been no records of his existence?
But even when the rumor was far from the truth, the insatiable thirst for blood from those eyes of his would be enough for anyone to hire him as a mercenary.

Lol. You can always change him, but that would rather delay the start. Character is approved.

Warlord (or do you prefer Zanyl?)

One slight reservation with the character:
QuoteMark tends to forget that he's no longer a one-man operative when in the heat of battle and may at times accidentally open fire at a comrade.

This makes him a liability rather than an asset?

The role of the "tank" in the team is to get in the way of the good-guye-with-guns and blow them away before they can blow away anyone of the team. If he's likely to accidentally change sides, that is not helpful!

Please could you explain (via PM if you prefer?) why you put that in the char sheet, as apart from  that I would be happy to approve the character.

However, please could you take your modifications out of the character sheet and use it as originally designed? Thanks.

Also, Australia has balkanised, that is, split into several smaller nation states. NEO (North East Oz) is one, consisting of Northern Territories, Queensland, Papua New Guinea, The Solomon Islands and Vanuatu. I think I remember mentioning the southern City States of Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide in "Iron Fist: Genesis", too. I think that leaves Western Australia with it's capital in Perth. Of course as with the USA there would be a remnant federal Government in Canberra but they are pretty toothless.

Mission Brief is finished.

Please read your copy, commit it to memory and them pull the red tab on the folder's binding.

Oh and I suggest that once you do that you drop the folder and step back a few paces... *giggles*

I'm putting the approved characters into a dossier thread.

Will get the OOC thread open now, and we can start discussing things. As soon as I hear back from THM this weekend whether he will be able to play, I will get the game going.

Warlord Zanyl

You can call me Zanyl or Zan for short.
I'd changed his Nationality (from "Australian" to "Melbourne"), Modifications (to "Originally Designed" while adding a few more capabilities with the arm) and taken out one of the weaknesses (my reason for putting that in, was to actually say that he won't hesitate to shoot one of their own should they interfere/get in his way with his work as a support gunner, especially when they didn't listen to him when he told them to drop back...).
He'll say it's an accident and that he'd forgotten he's no longer a one man operative..
Glad to be a part of the team! (if I'm accepted after the additional package with the arm is approved)

Hi Zan.

Actually I meant for you to please remove the alterations you have made to the format of the character sheet.

Please note the following:
Quote from: Chrystal on April 07, 2013, 02:56:19 PM
Please note: I will not accept characters that do not use the character sheet as I have posted it. I created the character sheet the way it is for a reason, and if you change it or do not use it, then that reason goes out the window!

I would also like to point out that anyone who "accidentally" offs a team member more valuable than themself is likely to meet with a very swift 9mm "accident" in return!

As it stands, I cannot approve the character for those reasons. But additionally the character is pretty close to being the sort of over-the-top modified character that I specifically do not want. Everyone else has a down-side to their abilities. Laughton is overconfident. Stack is a fucking psycho. Dayan is a suicidal thrill seeker. Zhùhǎo is a dangerous prankster. Cavendish is autistic. Littlejohn is naive and inexperienced. Iffy is a a big black box and can have little or no effect on the real world.

Now, the idea that your character doesn't give a shit about the lives of the rest of the team is fine. I have no problem with that, because Anne and Nikki both feel the same way... (sorry guys, but it's true).

What I have a problem with is that he would kill another member of the team without permission to do so. Major Laughton takes a very dim view of people exceeding their orders, and an even dimmer view of people disobeying orders.

If you could find a way to express his homicidal tendencies without the lack of discrimination between friend and foe, I will reconsider him.

I second Chrystal here. Being prone to kill one's friends is not what I would call a weakness. A weakness is something that might be dangerous to your character, not to others only.

Wargtass

Putting in a third here. Seems like a major liability, especially for myself since my character is a close combatant and no doubt will stand somewhere within his firing arc.
