Here in Wisconsin, they're trying to pass 'right to work' laws (which are actually nothing of the kind), and it's causing a lot of friction.

http://www.jsonline.com/news/opinion/right-to-work-offers-little-for-wisconsins-economy-b99450181z1-293708861.html

Quote from: Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

The Republicans will make three arguments: Workers should have freedom to choose whether they join a union; right-to-work legislation will boost jobs and the state's economy; Wisconsin will be at a competitive disadvantage if it doesn't adopt right-to-work.

But it's more likely that working class wages will take a hit as private sector unions, already weak, grow weaker still. Right-to-work laws ban labor deals in the private sector that require workers to pay union dues.

This train is being driven by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce, a group heavily weighted toward manufacturing, where union membership still hovers around 15% of the workforce — far greater than labor's penetration in other sectors of the economy. Republicans, no doubt, also sense a chance to weaken organized labor, a traditional constituency of the Democrats.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/work-debate-begin-wisconsin-hearing-29177287

Quote from: ABC
The daylong hearing began at 10 a.m. Sen. Stephen Nass, a Whitewater Republican and the committee's chairman, had planned for it to last until 7 p.m. But around 6:20 p.m. he announced he was ending the hearing due to what he called a "credible threat" that union members planned to disrupt the proceeding.

"We're not going to take a chance," Nass told the crowd. He issued a statement later Tuesday evening saying he didn't want protesters disrupting his meeting the way they did hearings on Republican Gov. Scott Walker's signature measure stripping most public workers of their union rights in 2011.

The Madison protests in 2011 were indeed some of the largest such protests ever seen, peaking at somewhere around 100,000 people, and local Republicans made a pretty considerable fuss at the time about 'not feeling safe', despite the fact that there were around ten arrests over the course of five months, and none of them for anything violent.  But at this point, the Republicans have control of the state legislature, and they're taking their chance to push through all sorts of laws like this one.  :/

Angela Merkel is a critic as well. She's still alive. I think.

Just another chapter of Russian political murders the Putin regime get the blame for without anybody ever proving it for real.

Being in another country helps that a bit.

I wonder if more Russian soldiers are going to get lost again. Maybe Poland this time?

Nemtsov has lots of enemies. I'm Not surprised if some one else kills him, and gets rid of him, and makes Putin look more bad at same time. Also some of his enemies are organized crime (the ones not politicians). I'm Not for saying Putin's innocent, but he's defanitely not only suspect.

But he's still a suspects, so he probably shouldn't be heading the investigation.

A member of parliament in the Canadian province of Manitoba spoke out against health professionals who determined it was safe to let Vince Li on supervised trips into the general population. Li was found not criminally responsible by reason of insanity for beheading Greyhound bus passenger Tim McLean.

I admit I would be terrified to be around Vince Li from a personal perspective, but if anything goes wrong with his schizophrenic condition while out in public, the medical community has themselves to blame.

A news bit I just heard: in a few Polish cities, Church-supported billboards appear. The billboards say "Concubinage is a sin. Don't commit adultery" and are illustrated with a photo of a male and female hands tied with a snake.

Hmm.

In another Church-related news, the Polish Catholic Church appeal for the Senate to repeal the anti-domenstic violence convention recently accepted by the Polish Parliament:
