Neal Asher's Universe

Hello :)

Further to the discussions in threads elsewhere, I'd love to play a game in the Neal Asher 'Gridlink' universe. For those who are interested but havn't read the books, it's 'Advanced SciFi', with godlike AI's, underspace interstellar drives, powerful androids, intelligent weapons, fearsome and mysterious rogue alien nanotechnology, and so on.

The initial vague concept I have in my head is that of playing a 'Golem' (a humanoid android) who is indentured as a sex slave till she has paid for her body. Or the owner thereof... no concept is written in stone, I'm more interested in simply exploring the universe.

Advanced Sci-Fi now that is something I never thought I would hear. LOL i just find humor in that.

What is meant by Advanced Sci-fi? I ask because I am curious as to how it is judged. Is that a term you just used or did the author of such books actually use it?

I can't actually remember where I first saw the term. An old scifi magazine, I think. It's in contrast to 'near scifi', as in a short-range technology prediction... the next fifty years, for example, where we're not likely to have interstellar drives and superintelligent artificial minds.

Come to think of it, I never did finish Gridlink.

Gridlink gave me a kind of... brittle feeling. Like Neal was a bit uncertain about how to write the world. The next two books were a lot smoother.
