So... My Mom got suckered into getting Windows 8

And her hardware is not up to snuff.  She's getting the dreaded errors.  However, she's looking into some upgrades for her rig.  I found a couple, but I'm not sure if they're Win8 compatible.  I was hoping someone whose more current in the hardware specs to help with these two parts.

I think they'd be Win8 compatible, but my hardware knowledge is a bit lacking.

That motherboard isn't compatible with that processor.

When your matching up processors and motherboards it's the Socket you need to look at. In the case of the processor you choose it's (Socket FM2). That's a brand new type of socket just released in September of this year.

Don't worry about Win8 Compatibility. It will be compatible with anything you buy.

Right.  I knew I forgot about the sockets.  Thanks.  Been close to 10 years since I worked as a tech.  Had a hard time remembering about the sockets then as well.
