Preview post adds url tag to img?

I'm not really sure how better to describe this besides what was already said in the title.

I write a post then preview it to make sure I have my tags correct. The preview shows the image fine, but then when I hit post it has added an "url" tag to my img, causing an error.

Is this a known issue? Am I doing something wrong, or should I just not preview posts with images?

Example:

When I hit preview and then post it turns this

[IMG width=150]http://miranda-kerr.wikispaces.com/file/view/miranda-kerr-nude-02.jpg/141037583/miranda-kerr-nude-02.jpg[/img]

to this

[IMG width=150]http://[url=http://miranda-kerr.wikispaces.com/file/view/miranda-kerr-nude-02.jpg/141037583/miranda-kerr-nude-02.jpg]http://miranda-kerr.wikispaces.com/file/view/miranda-kerr-nude-02.jpg/141037583/miranda-kerr-nude-02.jpg[/url][/img]

lollipop

It actually does it to me sometimes when I don't preview the post for. Not every time, but about two out of five it slings the extra [url] tag in.

Caeli

Well, one reason might be that your image URL has two files in it (that is, I see .jpg in your URL twice, but your image URL should only have that once in the file URL: at the very end), and because of that it's doing weird things to the URL when you're previewing the post and/or posting.

When I remove the rest of the URL after the first .jpg, it works fine.

Thats strange.. I'm getting them right from google images, although I do use my phone most of the time. I wonder if its something that google mobile adds, the double jpg thing. Lollipop, do you use your phone to post as well?

I still do not understand though why a URL tag would be added though.

Also, it works even with the double jpg.

((and I'm also tired so please ignore grammatical errors and such)) xD

lollipop

No, I do not post from my phone.

And Caeli, when I do it I checked the first time to see if there were multiple files in the link and nada when I put the link in the post. But, once I hit preview the extra .jpg appears. Its random, however, and doesn't always do it (and has done it with images I've used countless times, as I use images in almost all my story posts).

When it happens, I just start fresh again (posting the link and adding the tags) and it never does it again the second time around.

If you're getting images from Google, you shouldn't be getting that double file type twice, regardless, especially if you grab the direct image URL. The fact that it works when there's two .jpgs in there doesn't mean much, other than the fact that it's behaving strangely when you're trying to hotlink it. I have no idea why Elliquiy's preview function is adding onto the URL - could be that it's not the direct URL (even though it looks like it), or something else.

Honestly, it's bad web etiquette to hotlink someone else's image anyway, so I would actually advise that you re-upload to some other image host (I use imgur, used to use imageshack) or the Elliquiy wiki to avoid this problem.

I had no idea that was bad web etiquette.. Hmm.. I wonder if that would fix the problem though? I will have to try that, if for no other reason then to have good web etiquette.

Thanks for the lesson Caeli! ;D

Just a note, I upload mine to a hosting site and still run into the issue on occasion. ~shrugs~

Without more specific information about a specific incident, I couldn't say why it happens for you. I've never run into this problem.

Exactly this for me as well.

It happens to me frequently. And that's without any extra file types appended. Elliquiy seems to completely duplicate everything inside the URL tags randomly.

My guess is its some fault with the browser set up.

Geraint

I use a lot of images in my posts, and thus use preview a lot, and this happens to me here at least once a week.

I know how and where to host and post images and have been doing it for over twelve years.  I post only from a computer.

When it happens, the system here seems to adds the duplicate information as one hits the post button after preview (given that the extra characters do not exist in the post before that moment).  In other words, it incorrectly re-parses something already parsed in the preview process.  It seems to me to happen quite randomly, but the system has been doing it for well over a month.

Generally, I just suck it up and delete the extra characters in an edit.

Perhaps it is browser specific, if not everyone is having it, though that would not explain the seeming randomness.  I use IE8 in Compatibility View.

Oreo

Does it make a difference on where, on the site, you are posting the image? I know the open forums are supposed to contain no hot-linked images. If they are in your wanted ads it might be interfering with the hot link vs posting in your RPs or O/Os.

It sounds like it might be a browser issue? That's just a guess, though.

The first image is an image from my new imgur account, the second is from a link from google images. I have never heard about hot linking before as my rp experience isn't from forum based chats and I really never posted in forums before this.

If I am understanding your comment on the topic, then it shouldn't do this in a personal message. ((Sorry if that's not what you meant, I am a novice at forum posting.))

As far as I can tell, it doesn't seem to be doing it in personal messages or now on the forum since I changed browsers, but this is only one try.

My browser is Google Chrome V 15.0.874.106 right now, but I was using Internet Explorer 9 before. If you like, I can try to switch back to IE9 and see if that changes things?

Personally, I only post images in RPs or my O/Os, or occasionally in the birthday thread.  But then, those are the only places I post at all, ;) other than occasionally in this forum. :)

Alright, this is from IE9. It seems to not do it either, although the only time I have ever tried to post an image that it did this to is in the forums for adult rp for character sheets and add ons to posts and such. Are the adult forums different from these help forums?

p.s. And thanks for suggesting imgur Caeli, I'm using it now and it is pretty awesome. :)

p.p.s I'm not sure how to test this on an adult forum, because I don't really want to use one of the ooc threads for a bug test... :/

Thank you for the feedback, Geraint.

Just to note. I have Firefox and have never had an issue like this occur.

I use firefox and it occurs once or twice a week?

Edited to add: my images are usually in either my ideas thread (one on one wanteds) or in the roleplay forums. And it has happened in both places.

The last time I had it happen was actually, yesterday, with this post and with that particular image have not had it happen the entire time I've used it (since April).

I formatted it like this and checked it before clicking preview (and it was just a copy pasta from an earlier post, that I have never before had an issue with).

[float=right][IMG padding=10]http://i674.photobucket.com/albums/vv110/jelly_beanjlw/Rebecca.jpg[/img][/float]

I just now previewed a post with it in and had no problems. Though yesterday my preview was this (somewhat different from najlah's issue) and it is this that happens every so often:

[url=http://i674.photobucket.com/albums/vv110/jelly_beanjlw/Rebecca.jpg][img]http://i674.photobucket.com/albums/vv110/jelly_beanjlw/Rebecca.jpg[/url][/img]

Now that was with directly copying this from a previous post that I had opened.

[float=right][IMG padding=10]http://i674.photobucket.com/albums/vv110/jelly_beanjlw/Rebecca.jpg[/img][/float]

Does that help at all? lol Its not really that big of a deal, I generally just wipe it clean and paste again without an issue. But, it leaves me curious as to why it happens. ~shrugs~

Alright.. I searched the interwebs and finally figured out that it is a bug with Autolinking, although why it happens sometimes and not others is still a mystery to me.. http://xenforo.com/community/threads/disable-autolinking.8610/

And +1 to what lollipop says, it's not really that big of a deal, just more of an annoyance that you can fix fairly easily with modifying your post.. :)

I have only used Firefox for a couple of years and have the problem often.

Having said that I haven't experienced this for a while now, perhaps a recent version of Firefox fixed it?

Oreo

Odd, I use a version of Firefox 3 so I can still use all my add ons. I have experienced this effect with URLs but never with previewing images.

See that's the exact opposite for me ... as I didn't start experiencing it until I downloaded a recent version of Firefox. And Geraint said before he uses IE so I don't really think its a browser issue at all.

Caeli

I have to admit that I'm puzzled also. I've never used IE, but having used both Chrome and Firefox consistently, I have never run into this problem. After I post, a URL tag gets parsed if I throw in some kind of web address, but I've never had any problems with image tags.
