Innocents WoD

“Is it really true about Joe…Joe Morley…”

“Yes it is the older girl nodded,” as her brother looked up with fear. “It’s in the records, run over by a hand roller…still that’s not all.”

Her friend smiled, “We know someone that’s seen ‘im, and you can ‘ear his cries when yer on the loo.”

The boys eyes opened wider, as the two girls teased him, “But that not all, I’ve heard there is something in the cellar that even Joe Morely is scared of… but you’ll find out when you start school…”

****

“My Nan says there is something in Beldons Brook, and my Nan does not lie…”

“Rubbish she is going doolally, my mam says its Storthes ‘All fer ‘er.”

The boy had a defiant face at one of the ones from the new part of the village. “My Nan remembers the drownings…I mean we can go and play there but just not on certain days. because ‘iggerty Green will ‘ave you. Only last year she ‘ad Lucy Barrowclough. She didn’t believe either.”

*****

“Jean ‘as to be magic, all them sweets, and that tray of them. Always the ones you want.”

“She allus puts extra in the bag too, more than tenpence worth.”

“Ave you not seen ‘ow much better ‘ers taste than if you go to Brian’s Shop.”

“He is a miserable old bugger that’s why. My mam says he’s been spreading bad things about  Jean…”

“I heard someone say he never went to church, not since he murdered his wife.”

“Murdered his wife?” The gaggle of children continued to talk in the playground, ever watchful just in case ‘Brian could hear them.

All of  these are ‘urban legends’ from the village I was brought up in from the age of seven.

As it seems my werewolf game was not very successful or popular. (Though I may revamp it at some point knowing that it is a great story even if I say so myself.)

I have another game I used table top which can be either O or N WoD. The premise of the game is that everyone starts as a child between 7 and 10 and living in a small Yorkshire Village. The idea is that all the characters are friends, or at least will become such while they are children.

Before I go further I want to say that though I am asking players to be children there is a reason, your characters will not always be children. (Remember ‘IT’ the Stephen King Book.’) Obviously there will be no sort of sexual activity involving the characters. (Unless ‘kiss chase’ in the playground counts as that.) However it is an adult game because of the horror and what will likely unfurl, also the more than unpleasant undertones that may be in the background.

Now I have finished with that I am looking for a few players that can play some kids having a very WoD time. When one has little more than a jar of tadpoles, some horse manure, a penknife and a 5p for the phone…how does one stop the boogyman…oh an of course a sharp mind and a healthy imagination, they will likely be more help.

I can do this either New World of Darkness or Old, each of the characters can become a supernatural when they are adults. However I thought that it might be interesting to actually have some fun as playing children, it can be a lot enjoyment and different…trust me …its refreshing. This way even if everyone is different when they are adults, they actually have a reason to work together.

At this point I should add that it will be set in the 70’s as well so I am afraid it’s a very special era of music and fashion…Likely most of you will still have black and white TV and only three channels. No mobile phones it’s a call box and 5 pence. It will have a slightly idyllic feel on the surface but the darkness will be bubbling under the surface.

I would like folks to think if they prefer old wod or new and also what they would like the children to become after they meet again. (The latter may come in time.)

Thanks for listening

Tad

I think this idea sounds wonderful!  I'd love to join in on it. It is my all time favorite book. Personally, I'd prefer old WoD, but I'd be willing to play either way.

So, the kids will just be normal children, correct?  No powers other than their innocence and imagination?

Characters will appear to be normal children, though in the future if the game continues then they may become a supernatural. So for example when they become adults one may have been embraced… or one may have been taken by the fair folk…one could be blooded and not know etc… its up to the players.

So yes the children at this stage of the game are just normal.

Thank you for your interest.

Tad

So, I was contemplating playing a bookworm.  Maybe one who knows a bit too much about mythology for her own good?  Of course, it's childhood myths, so nothing about the real world of darkness.  Just things about mummies and curses and all sorts of wonderful things for the bogeyman to feed off of.

Either that or we could have her be the science minded type, the one who tries desperately to fit all of what's happening into the rational world.  Tries to find any other explanation than what's in front of her.  Either way would be fine by me.

I'm very interested, perhaps as a deamdreamer kid. You know the one, always has his head in the clouds never focusing on one thing for long before they switch to something else. A flexible thinker but poorly motivated.

Sabriel

Ello ^.^

I think i would be intrigued by this idea i have played in several RP games like this before where we did a prelude type thing with everyone when they where younger, although not usually quite so young but i dig the idea so long as there are not sexual themes obviously.

When you say Yorkshire are we talking Yorkshire England or some other place that's mimicking its name, I'm guessing so since you used English money and things found in Yorkshire but i thought id check anyway :P

I would have to say id probably only join in be interested if it was Old WOD too since i have no real love at all for the new version.

I will have to do some research into the 70's for character inspiration i can imagine the lunchboxes and music already  ::)

Senti

Personally I love both systems, but I am prepared to go along with the majority as to that which is played, I know both systems like the back of my hand. Thank you for your interest lets see if we can get another couple of players.

Playing kids can often be refreshing.

By the way yes it is England and let me fins some pics for you.

There will be more to follow including those of the Village down the hill where the Chippy is to die for…though not literally

Sabriel

Neat yeah that's definitely the kind of Yorkshire i was thinking of.

OH Chippy hehe I used to love sharing a bag (Not sure why we call it a bag when it comes in paper) of chips with my best friend when I was younger, we would sit on a bench or in the park and just chat and throw the pigeons the odd chip or three.

Senti

Did you have 'chips and bits ' as in the bits of batter.

mmmm Fish and Chips...

Sabriel

Hehe yeah there was usually a few bits of batter in there, we would occasionally splash out on a battered sausage and maybe even a pickled onion  ::)

Brings back memories.

Senti

That what I am hoping in the game.

I still want my fish and chips in news paper ...but it doesn't hapen now :(

Pickled egg?

Sabriel

Never had one of those, my adventures into the world of pickled food are rather limited im afraid.

Tad

So, about how many players are you thinking of having?

Are we gonna wait for all of them, or have additional kids join the group as the story goes on?

Senti

If you are both ok perhaps we can leave it for a couple of days and see what happens.

Two is fine more would be good.

As long as you are both up for it.

Tad

No worries, was just wondering if we were waiting for a half dozen other players or something.  And I totally agree that it would be better to have a couple more before we start anyways.

Sabriel

I'm absolutely fine with waiting for however long it takes for more interest if you would like more players and i agree it would be nice.

Chelemar

I would like to play, but... could I have my character be an American girl who's moved to England to live with a Gram or Auntie since her parents were killed?

Senti

Indeed that would be fine. She would cause quite a stir in the village.

Senti

ok looks like may be we have a few players, and we can start soon. Give me an Aye and I will set up an OOC.

Sabriel

I'm in for sure Ive been doing some research and reveling in 70's music for inspiration.  ;D

Bring on the times of Penny Sweets and Potato Puffs !

Tad

I'm in, though I might be changing my character a bit.  I don't know what other people are planning, but I feel like if we don't have a boy, we should at least have a tomboy.

I don't think it would be too weird if we where all female, I mean I know I have always been a bit of a strange person but I don't remember socialising with any boys between the age of 7-10. Ive always thought that was the one thing that was normal about me too I mean I was a very shy child but I don't remember any of the other girls hanging around with boys either. I always remember in the playground that us girls would be of doing our thing and the boys would be doing there own althougth I do remember that somtimes that seamed to involve chasing or attempting to anoy us girls.

Tad

See, I was the opposite.  I fought to play with the boys, made them let me play basketball and kickball and touch football.  So maybe I'll play that instead of the bookworm.  Just so we have someone to be a bit physical if the need be.
