I watched this show on my Apple TV from BBC America. It's hilarous and I find myself wondering how long till a tame/vanilla version of this makes it's way to the US.

The nutshell synopsis is 5 20-somethings in London who are on community service and get struck by lightning in a freak storm. And gain superpowers (of a sort). The socially awkward guy who turns invisible. The Cav girl who reads minds. The party girl who induces hypersexual frenzy to anyone she touches. The would be Olympian who turns back time when he experiences regret (which made breaking up with one girl REALLY amusing) and the smart mouthed Irish guy who spends most of the first season trying to get his powers.

Saerrael

Darn, my mind took me back to the 80s when I read this title.

Bad girls from the Jem cartoon.

Callie Del Noire

yeah..cause it's far better than bad 80s commercial cartoons.

*chuckles* I think that depends on taste. ;)

there has been word of a US version being in the works.
The internet is not happy and my email inbox was flooded with my friends begging me to sign online petitions to keep a US version from happening.

I really hope that it doesn't happen and end up being the like the US version of Being Human. *gag*

Cecilia

It's a brilliant show.  One of my favorites--and yeah, a US version would be an awful mistake.

Callie Del Noire

Somehow I doubt they (the studio execs) would allow anything less than the 'prettiest' thugs they can find.

Just got the season ticket for season 3.. got to see what happened to the mouthy Irish guy..there is NO WAY you'd see that on an American Channel.. (except maybe HBO/SHOWTIME or such)

Though I got to admit the lines in the series are a hoot at times.

Cecilia

I just watched the first three episodes.  I miss the curly headed guy--Can't remember his name?!--but the new guy is even more hilariously crass and crude.  Not a show to watch with the kids.  :P

Oh yeah.. Nathan..

Cecilia

Right...Nathan...He was great.

Can't wait for the next episode.  We still have to listen closely to understand half of what Kelly has to say though...her accent is sooooo hard for me.

"Where you been all day?"

Kelly: "Fightin Nazis.. kickin the shit out o' Hitler."

She has the BEST lines in the series.

STDs as a Superpower.. only the Brits would think of that. LOL

*gah*. I haven't watched the new episode yet.  *cover eyes and flees*

I've had a couple people tell me about this show already... I think I'll have to look for it. It sounds hilarious. You can get it on Apple TV? Cool.

Now I need to figure out how to work that thing. Mutters about too many remote controls in this damn house!

Well, yes. It is a sleek little thing, isn't it?  But that makes everything more difficult!  No power button. How do you turn it on?  How do you turn it off?? So complicated, all those flipping menus.  Just make a damn power button, sheesh. And I have to scroll through 8 different AV input modes to find with one is the Apple TV...

This is why I don't watch TV.  Forget it.  I'm just going to look it up online.

It turns off after a bit automatically, or you can put it in sleep mode (on the settings tab). After a time it will shut down.

Turning on is easy. Push the play button on the remote.

One of the reasons I got my TV was I can push the HDMI button between the 3 HDMI channels wihtout anything else. SO I push play (watching for the white light) then after about 5 seconds pick up the TV remote and push HDMI to '2' and there it is.

Remotes are paradoxially getting more difficult so I keep a saddle bag by my desk to hold the 3 I use. TV, Apple TV and Cable Box.

Cecilia

Heh...we have a receiver with the TV, Wii, Xbox, Playstation and computer all hooked up to it.  We use the Xbox as our main netflix and Hulu2 controller.  And we've lost the remote for our TV--so we have to figure out the menu commands by using the little buttons on the screen.   We don't have cable, though and there's no broadcast TV so we never change the TV setting--it's always just displaying whatever the receiver tells it to.  My 9YO regularly helps me figure out how to make things work.  :P

IF you have a iPad/iPod/iPhone or Android phone, you can look up an app called iRule (my friend swears by it) and I am trying to recall the star trek-ish universal I had. It was able to do a LOT of things with just a brand name and model. There are a few remotes out there you can configure to.

This is more or less my situation as well. Plus the AppleTV. My 5year-old is the one who usually helps me out when Mr. Martee isn't home, but he was at daycare earlier.

Thank you, Callie, by the way. While I eventually would have figured out how to turn it off, the instructions were helpful. (Turning it on was easy, actually- I used to use an iPod that was similar in design- and I am not above mashing every button over and over until I get the desired result ;) )

I'll have something to watch this weekend, now.

'She's a fucking Zombie yah!"

There is a classic line.. bwahahahahahahahaha

and boy does Ruddy is a whole BAG of issues.. geeze.

Callie Del Noire

"This is art.."

"No..Fanny Bangers 2 is art.." LOL.. Ruddy is a hoot.

Mason

I've been marathon watching this on Hulu. Do you guys feel Rudy was an adequate replacement for Nathan? It's obvious that's his role. I do like Rudy's power though. It seems like there's a lot more they could do with it.

I'm personally open to a US version, but the characters really make the show. Whoever remakes it has a real challenge ahead of them. Anyway, I think I fell in love with Kelly's character over the course of the show. She had me at her headbutt in the season one. :)

Callie Del Noire

The thing is.. they will beautify the kids.. they won't be your 'average' lowlife stoner, they'll be folks who can do maxin photo shoots.

Mason

I don't disagree, but it's not like the rest of the cast are eyesores. Kelly and Rudy are really the only ones who aren't stereo-typically attractive, imo. And Rudy doesn't show up until season three.

I think a bigger problem for them is trying to capture the essence of the show and characters like Nathan/Rudy without the language/nudity. The scene where Nathan is sunbathing is more raw and unflinchingly in your face than some porn.

Plus, it's not like they can take away the UK version. :)

Callie Del Noire

I doubt it's gonna show up on something like network tv or basic cable like USA/SyFy.. and I honestly think they will fuck it up.

Cecilia

I'm with Callie on this one--I can't think of any BBC show that has translated to American TV without significantly weakening the intent of the original show or being an inferior product.

I wouldn't go THAT far, despite that being the case more often than not, but I will say that I don't see this flying well with the network execs fucking up the chemistry.

What American adaptations are you referring to? Skins, Being Human? Skins (US) didn't do well in the US, but I haven't seen either version of that. I've heard the US version of Being Human follows its UK inspiration very closely, so if you've seen the latter it doesn't hold any surprises.

Let's see.. straight from names.. there is

Being Human..
Skins..
-some would argue the latest Torchwood series.. but I'm calling that a collaboration-
the there are..
Whose Line is it?

New names...
All in the Family.
Who wants to be a millionaire
American Idol

Uh..
Top Gear (gah.. stick with the original)

I know that <SHUDDER> reality TV shows were originally from the UK and Europe..

Hollywood is rarely innovative or creative when they can 'steal' from other sources. Look at all the crap that that they give creative people in Hollywood. I mean.. Joss Whedon and Matt Groenig both caught ALL sorts of crap when they came out with Futurama and Firefly despite the fact at the time they were running rabidly successful shows. Both series went on to gain cult standing,  and I continually hope that something more will come out of Firefly now that Futurama is being made on Comedy Central.

Mason

I think the different formats matter a lot in how much risk studios may be willing to take. So far, these UK original series seem to run 6-8 episodes a season (at least the few I've seen). In comparison, US seasons are generally longer, sometimes much more so (22 episodes).

But if you want to call Hollywood generally unoriginal, I'm not going to disagree with that.  :)

So what did you guy think of Simon's resolution? I'm glad the show at least pointed out the loop problem and I'm not sure why Simon wouldn't want to try and change so details to break the cycle. The actors won't be coming back, so we're stuck with this timeline, but I like to think of it in steps. He first saves Alisha from the gunmen, then comes back the next time and she dies to the ghost cult leader. So this next time, hopefully he'll try to save her from both... well, at least that's what the sappy romantic in me wants.

Callie Del Noire

Be afraid. The guy producing the OC is supposedly behind the US version, which doesn't even have a network yet.

Callie Del Noire

Well Season 4 came up on apple tv. :D

I think they did a decent job seeing as Nathan was probably the one character that Misfits really couldn't afford to have to replace. My two cents Rudy is a lot more edgy character who utilities a different kind of humor. Rudy's jokes aren't meant to be laugh out loud funny, they're meant to fall flat. You get to appreciate it after a while, especially as his character fleshes out, but it's hella jarring at first.

QuoteI'm personally open to a US version, but the characters really make the show.
I think the casting is equally important. I really like the show, but I feel as if some of their actors could have been stronger. Antonia Thomas (Alisha) never convinced me, while Season 4's two new characters haven't grabbed me at all.

Moraline

Losing Nathan was a major loss to the show. I found the show to feel very flat after he left. He was the only character in the group that I really liked.

ulthakptah

I was also very disappointed with the show past the point when Nathan left. but now in the most current episodes....
Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
whats even the point? None of them really have powers any more. They sold off all the good ones. Seriously who the fuck sells immortality, invisibility, and time travel? With the last episode I've seen, Curtis dies and and now none of the original five are there. It's just an annoying douche who can split into an asshole and a pussy, a wimp that can slowly slide things off shelves, and that girl who can see through things.

Skylarke

This show seems interesting. Never heard of it until here. But then I don't own a television.  Discovered that with the kids gone out of the house and all my time spent on the computer playing my games, then why bother with a TV.  But I keep hearing of shows that interest me.  Someone said something about Hula? That is where I can watch the shows on the internet?   I am also not an active internet user outside of the two games, IM, and the occasional site I am directed to by friends.  Like this one. I tend to stick with one thing and never move on. *laughs*
'Listen my child', you say to me
'I am the voice of your history
Be not afraid, come follow me
Answer my call and I'll set you free'

Just watched the first episode of season 4 last night...I was so grossed out by the hack saw scene I don't know if I want to continue.  From the looks of things, it isn't likely to get any better, either.  Rudy is repulsive in a not funny way--Nathan pulled off the smarmy in a charming quirky way that Rudy just does not.  I just am not feeling the same 'quirky' love I was during season 1.  :(

You summed up my feeling really well. Especially as it comes to the difference between Rudy and Nathan. Nathan had a roguish boyish charm to him. Rudy is just rude and not charming in the least. Rudy just isn't likable, in my opinion.

Spoiler like an actual spoiler
It's really sad that the most charming and likable Rudy the the bat shit crazy psychopath on with the ukulele.

But yeah I just watch the 5 in season 4. The show isn't even comedy anymore, it's all boring drama now.

Remember when they accidentally kept killing all their parole officers, and you couldn't help but laugh at it?  I miss that...

ulthakptah

I wouldn't mind if they "accidentally" killed the current probation worker. Not a fan of him.

Just saw him at the end of the first episode...he seems quite nasty and worthy of a bludgeoning.

Cecilia

I just want to be able to laugh when they do it.

MadnessChi1d

I liked this show, right up until they killed off Simon, the fifth time... I think. The only reason I would watch it again is if they brought back Nathan Young with his immortality.

Callie Del Noire

I got to admit.. the latest ep is a bit of a hoot..

The whole numbers power was awesome. :D

Callie Del Noire

The last two eps have been.. okay.. mostly though.. between last season's finale and this season.. I'll have to look more closely at any new seasons that come up. I'm not enjoying it as much as prior seasons.

Callie Del Noire

And it drags me back into the series.. sigh..

Used some of my Xmas gift cards to get season 5.

I was out..and drug me back in.
