Puppy Love

I stared in the dark as I waited for the door to open and the new owners to come and pick one of us to take home. I looked down at my soft tummy and snuffled at my misshapen feet wishing someone could over look my imperfections. I heard my sisters and brothers soft breathing in the dark as they dreamed of the new homes that were sure to come soon for them. I finally closed my grainy eyes and went to sleep with a heavy heart as I heard the bed springs next door creak and the light click off.
Soon the lights were glaring in my eyes and my sisters and brothers were making way to much noise as the doors opened to the new day. one of my brothers jumps on me to get a better advantage to be picked by the little boy who was looking us over. I just lay there lost in my own thoughts of who would be leaving me today as I felt his weight lifted off me and then the sounds of a happy child walking away babbling happily. Each day was starting to blend together with the others. I heard the bell ringing out and the voice that always preceded the lights going out soon and started looking for the most comfortable place when I felt two hands squeezing me around my middle a little to hard and then a voice.
"look Mommy isn't it pretty" I am flipped over and stare at the ground terrified that I am about to be dropped.
""Oh be careful dear you don't want to hurt the cute little thing now do you?" the hands are replaced by larger warm ones and I am righted and gently petted "oh dear look at her paw are you sure you want this one?"
"Oh no mommy put it back"
My heart falls and if I could have cried tears I would have, but instead I just burrowed under the blankets and watched one of my sisters leaving instead. Soon all of my siblings are gone and I hear the man talking about new pets coming in soon and how he needs to ride the store of the junk pet. I know he is talking about me, but what can I do. Then I hear a voice over the mans.
"Oh aren't you a darling?" I am yet again picked up and looked over but then I am moving. I get scared and pee on the hands that are holding me. then I am set on a hard surface and the man on the phone speaks up.
"wait maybe you don't need to come after all I think someone wants the puppy with the bad foot." His voice changes to something more cheery and scary. "well good choice sir but I do have to advice of the disfigurement of this little girl.""
I hear a laugh behind me and then a hand is placed next to me and what is this it is missing a finger too.
"She is perfect to me." then the cash sounds are made and I am being carried out of the store.
