Welcome to the game, Wander.

We have quite a few survival savvy tributes, who lean much more towards Dexterity, so I suppose someone who leans more towards strength and those sorts of skills would be different. We don't have that many careers (districts 1, 2 & 4) yet either. But it's really up to you. :-)

Also I've just put my two districts on reserve. I should be posting my character's info tomorrow. As I'm the GM I can't win the game myself, but I don't want to miss out on the fun so I've got two tributes myself along with control over NPCs. I have Carmen, my red haired killer career bitch, and Marcus, sweet and gentle romantic. I can't wait to the play them both. ^.^

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Name: Garrett Wylder
Gender: Male
Age: 18
District: 12
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
On & Offs: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=138550.0
Appearance: Garrett is, like most of the citizens from his district, quite emaciated. The years of eating poorly have led to his growth being stunted, meaning he is both shorter and all round smaller than he may have naturally been. Before the stylists got hold of him, his hair was unkempt, and he was rarely if ever fully clean. His hair was a mousy brown before coming to the capitol, but it has since been dyed a deep red, perhaps in an attempt to make him look more attractive. He has a few scars on his body from his years living on the streets.
Personality: Garrett is very friendly and kind, if a bit strange a lot of the time. He mostly keeps to himself, and it is difficult to read what’s on his mind, as he keeps his face passive as much as he can. He tries to find the best in any situation, but when things get too much he will disassociate from the situation, often becoming very blank and highly suggestable until whatever caused him to go into that state is over.
History: Even for someone from District 12, Garrett was poor. He doesn’t remember either of his parents, only living on the streets from a young age, doing whatever he had to in order to survive. While he was younger, that consisted of scrounging through rubbish, begging, and on occasion – though he is not proud of it – stealing. Over the past couple of years, however, he discovered that some of the peacemakers would give him food or money for certain services. He learned quickly how to tell which ones would treat him poorly, but when desperate times came around, he found he had little choice to do anything but bear it.

First and foremost: I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well Lurking, I hope it passes soon like you predict.

Second: I'd like to note interest. I'm currently not sure which district or special skill she'd have, but I'll work on it and let you know.

It may take me some time to make a character up...

I've come up with a bad case of Adulting IRL which has me needing to sort out things and forms, plus I have some things on the list before the game here to do, which does include some chargen for my solo games, which I tend to place as important. I'm about though and when things have quietened down a bit (hopefully after tomorrow) I'll get to work here.

My head's feeling much better today, thanks guys. I will work on replying to messages today. ^.^

Welcome to the game, Ritsu! Glad to have you here. If you have any questions just let me know.

Ugh, Adulting. If only such things could be avoided. It always gets in the way of good gaming time *nods*. But there's no rush, Wander.

I'm opening the IC threads on Saturday. Hopefully that'll give you guys a chance to get your character sheets up, although recruitment for the game will be going for a while after the IC threads are up, so no worries if not.

Right, off to walk the dog before it gets too hot (think that's why my head hurt so much yesterday, was walking the dog in the middle of the afternoon and the sun took me by surprise) and then back to replying to messages and getting my tributes up. ^.^
Yay! Glad you're feeling better!

Thank you. *feels very welcomed* I think I'm okay with the system. Though I am curious why you ended up choosing 3d6 over something like a d20. Just to average out the rolls a bit and help avoid the extreme highs and lows of Nat 1's or 20's?

Yea, I don't blame you at all. I live in Florida, so afternoon sun can be killer, quite literally. I hope the morning walk does better for you lovely.

Also, if I may I'd like to slip in a claim for the D1 female slot. I managed to talk with Sparrow and made sure he was good with that ;D

Lurking

Riiiight then. I'm caught up, now to work on profiles...

Garret looks great Sparrow. Though I'm biased 'cause I luff Garret.

That's exactly why we're using a 3d6 rather then a d20. I wanted the dice roll to account of variability and luck within the game, but I didn't want it to be as big a deciding factor as a d20 would make it. I was thinking d20 originally but then a player from the previous game (who I'm still hoping will log on and come join us) suggested 3d6 and that seems to work well. :-)

Name: Carmen Brindle
Gender: Female
Age:  21
District: 2
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
On & Offs: O/Os
Appearance: Carmen’s selling point is her long, crimson coloured hair. She favours trousers and leather jackets over skirts and dresses, but she knows she can look drop dead gorgeous in them if she needs to. Her stylist worked her outfits to perfection and Carmen was happy to parade around in her glittering dress for the crowds as she knew it served an important purposes in getting sponsors interested in her. As soon as she got back to the training centre halls thought, she stripped off the dress and pulled on her work out gear, which feels much more natural to her, after all, it’s hard to chase down your target in a dress and heels.
Personality:  A true career, Carmen is a hunter and a killer. She sees the other tributes as prey to be taken down; the stronger tributes are trophy kills, the weaker ones are often not even worth her time unless they happen to scuttle under her feet. She’s an elitist and a snob; if you’re from the poorer districts you are beneath her, but the other careers she sees as her natural allies. A pack animal, once she’s decided to team up with someone she will stick with them through thick and thin. Carmen is ready to play the game the way it’s meant to be played, with the careers hunting down the little tributes and crush them. Only then will the real games begin, when she is to take down her fellow careers. She naturally respects the other careers and considers killing them to be a sign of respect towards them, at least they can die an honourable death and not at the hands of some poor district kid.
History:  Carmen grew up in a district that is known by others to produce stone and precious gems for the capitol, however the true purpose of district 2 is to breed and train peacekeepers and manufacture weapons. Both Carmen’s parents were peacekeepers, her older brothers joined them too. Carmen was raised to respect the capitol, taught it was a honour to serve it by protecting it and laying her life on the line for the good of Panem. Carmen wanted to outdo her brothers and decided the only way to do that was to win the hunger games. She has been training since she was young and has put off volunteering until she felt old enough to win. This year she stepped forward onto the platform proudly, ready to face the arena in the way the capitol meant her to.

#34
Name: Jimmy 'Dodge' Dodger
Gender: Male
Age: 21
District: 4
Sexual Orientation: Polysexual, likes feminine looks.
On & Offs: Ons and Offs
Appearance: Jim is brunette, with light stubble around his chin. Both slim and pale, he's not too imposing looking. He is 5'4" tall, though he slouches. He has the general appearance of someone that gets underestimated on a first impression.
Personality: Jim is quiet until he gets a read on the people about him. He's nervous of letting people get close to him, though he craves it and wants to be friendly and seen as useful. Due to specific elements in his upbringing and life so far, he is slightly socially inept though this gives him a kind of cool element under pressure, which helps with his prior skills as a hunter. He is conflicted about the whole situation he has been flung in and plans to find some way to escape.
History:
Jim was born and raised in District 4 and came from a rather well-off family in his early life. He never really wanted for much and was the lone child and heir to a small fishing business ran from the District. Life was idealistic and he never considered being a Career Tribute, since there were more than enough willing to do it and go the Arena before him. Still, Jim did take up a bit of training as a hobby, though he was short and slim, not really built for much outside a rich life. Such an idealic life was not to last. With bigger fishing companies developing, Jim's family was finding it hard to compete.

Eventually Jim's father grew depressed, the family broke apart and Jim lost his mother. He doesn't talk about what happened. Left to mainly fend for himself but too young to take the company's reigns, Jim soon learned the elements of camping and hunting for his own food. Never a truly fit child, he now as a young man learned the art of stealth and using arrows to hunt, along with the fishing abilities his District is famous for. He has ended up in the Hunger Games likely from taking out Tessera to make sure his family is fed, something done partly through guilt and his own family twisting his arm, which has made his personality into what it is today.

Ah, I've had family with terminal cancer myself... I know the feels. I hope things go smooth as they can for you Lurking and if you need to chat, you know where to find me.

I just wanted to state here in this post also I'll be taking the District 4 Male, as I like me some fishing.  :-)

Hey D12 & Rot! Welcome to the game! I've put your chosen tributes on hold for you. ^.^

Just so everyone knows I might not be on much over the next few days. My Granddad has come down with an infection. He's 91 with terminal cancer, so at the moment we have no idea how he's going to be. We haven't been able to get a lot of information from the doctors yet, but will learn more today. I'm not sure how much I'm going to be around over the next few days, so if I'm a bit absent, that's why.

Have faith for the best outcome. My grandmother was also diagnosed with cancer so I can understand myself. I also open to chat if you need to.

On a side note, I have my stats done for my character. Now to make him. (Reserve Axe Throwing specialty please. :D)

As far as the Game goes now, I'm gonna add some stats to my character now and see what I get. I'm gonna see what the other characters have here too, as I'd hate to steal someone's skill thunder. ^^;

I like to play me stealthy tracker sniper types, so I went with that. They're not a physical character, though more than adept for this in certain ways, I think. :)

Just need to add the fluffy bits and get a fitting pic (Katniss is easy on the eyes for now, mind ^^) and I'mma ready! ^^

Stats look great Wander. Gotta admit his crossbow stats and stealth stats have me worried. xD

Yay for fluff and pic!

QuoteHand to Hand: {Str/Dex}. Attack: Up-Close. Weak or void against certain armour. Defence: Hand to hand attacks.

If I'm reading this right that implies that Hand to Hand can not defend against other up close attacks, is this correct?

If so, I'd like to make a case that that not be true.

D12

I could see you using hand to hand skills to mitigate damage taken while fighting someone, but the reality is that if someone comes at you with a knife and you're fighting bare handed you're going to get cut up.
The whole 'catch a sword between your hands' thing is kinda kung fu movie fantasy. (mythbusters even did an episode on it)

and pretty much anything else would probably be covered by Dodge instead.

Gender: Male
Age: 25
District: 2
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
On & Offs: O/O & Other Stuff
Appearance: Black hair, dark blue eyes, pale skin
Personality: Detached/Cannibalistic/Pessimistic
History
The Widdershins' have put in applicants since the beginning and have honorable spots for those who make it into the tournament. They also have several winners of the Hunger Games in their family line who are allowed to produce and train children to pass on success in the genes. Arune was raised in a large family who trained from an early age to manipulate, kill, and devour each other over the course of time, so that the strongest may put in their names for volunteering in the Hunger Games. Among his nine brothers and sisters, only three lived past childhood. Arune the oldest of the three, was forced to put his name one last time into the tournament when his mother found him having plans to make off with a male lover. When his name was drawn, Arune cut ties with everyone except his family name that follows him like a dark mark. Unable to escape his fate, and knowing he might not live, Arune approaches this game ruthlessly with hatred for his fellow people.

What if you had something to parry with, even if it was only a foot length of a thick stick, it would make hand to hand a viable skill for blocking and parrying, wouldnt it?

Not even that. I have a friend who is professionally trained to knife fight (which is what's happening for a Career) and one of the main defense styles he was taught involves having no weapon at all and working around your opponent's weapon, even taking it from them. The same is true of guns if you're close enough. So no, I'm not talking about the bs catching a sword in your hand, I'm talking about doing things like flipping a kick up faster than your opponent and kicking their blow to one side or the other so that it doesn't hit.
