A dad came home form an arduous hunt for a copy of Guitar Hero 3 for his son for Christmas, only to find the stellar lad smoking pot on the patio.

Dad's reaction?

Sell the GH3 on eBay.

I have to say, this is probably the best dad I've heard of in a while.  I've always had respect for parents who find creative new ways to teach lessons to their children, most parents would just ground the kid.  He's doing something that his son will remember for YEARS afterward.  I hope the kid learns his lesson.

Well, if you read through all the text of the auction, the dad said that if the final bidder ended up being a no-pay, he'd give the GH3 to his boy anyway.... so likely a bunch of sympathizers drove up the price in order to let the kid have the game.

I'm still confused as to whether it's actually legal, but my sources have informed me in the past that Canadian cops were not in the habit of actually enforcing such laws.

(although it's surprising what you can get away with in the USA if you don't look enough like a pothead to get harassed)

IIRC, it's legal here in South Australia to own a very small number of marijuana plants and to smoke it at home. I think possession without intent to sell is a misdemeanor, so if you get caught with a tiny amount they can just fine you without needing to send you to prison over it (and as such, more people *have* been charged, as previously the police were more likely to just pretend not to see anything when there's a small amount).

Honestly, if it were legalised, the government could seriously just place a tax on it (as well as regulate the quality), getting money as a result of people having the odd toke.

Now, if they picked something addictive (let's go crazy town and pretend opium was legal), there would be problems as fist they'd make a killing on the taxes, with an unfortunate side-effect of people spending all their money on the addiction, going bankrupt then needing government-funded* detox and financial support to get back on their feet. So that wouldn't actually be a good idea, even if addiction is what capitalism loves (it makes people spend money). But we're not talking opium, meth or coke.

Besides, you'll never stop the Uni students from getting stoned, may as well let them do it and declare a lower crime rate *wink*

*Over here, it doesn't place you in a debt to get government aid. The only paying back you'll ever do is when you earn enough that you're paying tax again. I'm not sure how other countries work it.

There is a perfume named Opium, it is actually my favourite of all time, unfortunately it's very expencive and when I travelled abroad and could get my sister to buy it in the NAAFI, then I used to practicly bathe in the stuff....Now I am afraid my addiction has to stay at using the testers in the big department stores...*laughs*
