But, Santana's "Evil Ways" was before that.  Gotta love putting iTunes on random.  :)

And now it's Live's "Shit Towne"

Portishead, "Wandering Star".
Something about the steady pulse of opening chords... electric piano perfectly accousticized (is that a word?  It is now), a thrumming, humming pulse...
Perfect for the slightly mood-altered animal in all of us who secretly wants nothing more than to dance in the blacklight with that strange guy or girl at the party, to put our hands where we don't ever with strangers, to feel the blissful lightening of semi-inhibition...
If you've never heard this song, and you want to, please let me know.  But you have to hear it, at least once, when there's no one near, and you're how you are meant to be... for me, it's like I said... tipsy on champagne, standing in my underwear in a darkened room and looking out on the remants of a snowfall cast yellow in streetlight and blue in moonlight.
What's that moment for you?
Oh I've only just noticed this post.  I totally relate to the image you're depicting.  The scene it portrays for me is probably a little dark for the public section of the forums, but I absolutely love Beth Gibbons' haunting vocals on that record.  Have you heard any of their stuff after Dummy?  That's the only work of theirs I have - I just haven't gotten round to anything else.  Apparently there's another album being recorded at the moment though, so I'll ancipate that eagerly.

Right now I'm listening to The Beach Boys - Surfin USA.  Bit of a mood shift from Portishead.

Ugh, Beachboys.  :P
Thanks for reminding me of Portishead, gonna try to find their record, it should be somewhere around here.

Pfft it's so catchy and insipid that not to like it is like not liking fluffy pink bunnies.  You don't hate bunnies, do you :'(?

You'll be happy to know that I've now moved on to The Klaxons - Gravity's Rainbow.  Bring on the Nu Rave!

Bunnies? If they are Playboy bunnies I'm all for them, if not I really don't care one way or the other. I'm a cat person, me.

Fantastic, isn't she?  And I'm a big fan of their self-titled album... they seem to record great live, as well, so the NYC album is good...

I might have to pick that album up next time I'm in a music store.  As for seeing them live, that's something I'd love to do.  I saw Massive Attack a few years back and the genre trip hop just seems to lend itself really well to live performance I think.  The overbearing smell of cannabis smoke, a few pints of cheap lager, a nice, throbbing base and those delicate vocals; I think I'm going to have to make a list of gigs to go to before I die and put them first on it.

Now playing: Gossip - Standing In The Way Of Control.

In this world, there are things you want, people you need, moments you remember, feelings you forget, but when it all boils down, all we need is love.

I heard that "Pan's Labyrinth" was good... I'm itching for "300" (loves Frank Miller).
