Hey everyone!

Welcome to the recruitment thread for a Game of Thrones free-form, sandbox RP.

Rel Mayer and I will be co-GMs for this game. You can find our World Building thread here - https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=248183.0

Please take a look at the information provided below, and post your interest if you would like to join! If you have any questions please PM Red Lobster and Rel Mayer, or ask them in this thread.

Thanks!

The End of the War of Five Kings

This period of time is the current setting of the A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) book series, as well as the television series. During the TWoFK period, several noble houses declared themselves independent to the realm or stated that they held a legitimate claim on the Iron Throne. Geoffrey Lannister, Balon Greyjoy, and Renly Baratheon were all assassinated under mysterious circumstances during. Robert Stark, the King in the North was also assassinated at the Twins during his wedding by House Frey.

Where we deviate from the books and TV show

Shortly after Daenery's Stormborn was reuinited with Drogon (her dragon) in Mereen, the Mother of Dragons finally determined that it was time for her to return to Westeros to take her rightful place on the Iron Throne. She made this decision after realizing that while she was the Mother of Slaves here in the East, it would never be here home. The High Lords of Mereen approached Daenery's with an offer. If she sailed away from the city immediately, they would give her boats, mercenaries, and all the supplies she needed to mount a full scale conquest of Westeros. Under the condition that she never return. She accepted this offer. With her three Dragons Daenery's and her army set sail for Westeros.

During this time, the events in Kings Landing were much the same. King Tomen, the boy-king, sat on the Iron Throne while Stannis Baratheon waged war with the Bolton's and White Walkers in the far North. Daenery's ships invaded King's Landing after several months at sea. Despite being prepared for her attack, there was nothing that the Lannister army of the knights of Kings Landing could do to halt a force large enough to conquer all of Westeros, as well as three fully grown dragons. Kings Landing fell within hours of the initial assault. Before a full day had passed in the great city, Daenery's Stormborn had realized her dream, and sat upon the Iron Throne.

Unlike her predecessor Kings and Queens, Daenery's did not kill Tomen or his family. She allowed Tomen, Margery, Cersei, and the Great House Lords in Westeros to bend the knee to her new rule. The majority of these nobles did so without question, knowing that if they did not, Danery's would feed them to her Dragons.

How the Great Houses reacted to her return:

Present Day - 60ish years later

This is when the game will be set. Queen Daenery's, as well as almost everyone alive during the War of Five Kings time period has passed away. The current King of Westeros is King Aegon Targaryen. All of the Great Houses still hold their respective positions and titles as Daenery's decreed at the end of the war. For the last several decades Westeros has had time to recover from the wounds of it's predecessors. Winter has come and gone, and now the land is enjoying a long-summer.

What will the story of the game be?

The game will begin with the Heads of every noble family in Westeros being summoned to Kings Landing to hear some incredibly important announcement by King Aegon. Whatever this announcement is, everyone is certain that it must be incredibly important given that he is requiring the attendance of all Lords and Ladies. Everyone will have the chance to meet one another, speak as friends and enjoy the festivities at Kings Landing. Perhaps even a small tourney is taking place for the knights.

What will be revealed at the first GM event?

Announcement 1

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
When everyone has gathered, and had their fill of wine, food, and sport, King Aegon will make an announcement to every lord in the Realm. The current laws of succession in Westeros are known as an Elective Gavelkind, meaning the oldest male heir inherits all lands and titles from their father. King Aegon, starting the following day, has changed the laws of succession for all of Westeros to a Primogeniture law of succession. Which means that the oldest child will inherit all titles, powers, and responsibilities of their parent.

What does this mean?

- This biggest impact this will have is that now the eldest daughter of any House will inherit the lordship of their House upon the death of their parent, not the eldest son.
- Marriages will no longer be focused on marrying daughters off to gain political power. Now, son's will be married off and be forced to take the last name of their wife in order to preserve the family title. This is known as a Matrilineal Marriage.
- Women now are effectively just as powerful as men

Why would the King do this?

- It is known that Aegon's son is Mad. As mad as Geoffrey Lannister, or his Great Grandfather Aegon (Danny's father). The most likely reason for this decision is so that King Aegon can be certain his eldest daughter, Serah Targaryen, inherits the throne instead of Aemon the Mad-boy. He cannot legally do this however without making it a law across the entire realm.

How would characters feel about this?

- This is a lot like when King Henry broke away from the Catholic Church. Many Lords may be surprised that a King can even do this, but we assure you, he can.
- Each character can decide independently how they feel.  It is unlikely though that most Lords would simply "be OK" with it.

Announcement 2

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
The second, and surprisingly even more startling announcement, is that King Aegon has now legalized slavery in the land of Westeros. Just as it is legal in the lands to the east. Any low-folk who wishes to sell themselves in to slavery will have all their debts, and family debts forgiven by the Bank of Westeros. As well, they will be given a hefty sum of a single gold dragon coin as payment. Merchants, Houses, and business owners will now be able to sell and purchase slaves throughout the land.

What does this mean?

- This one is pretty self-explanatory.

Why would the King do this?

- Ever since the rule of Robert Baratheon, Westeros has been in a major deficit with the Iron Bank for several generations. Even though Westeros is in the middle of a prosperous summer, the royal treasury is nearly empty. Slaves are free labor, and by introducing them in to the economy there is a very high chance that Westeros will suddenly begin to profit enormously off of their work. As well as their owners.
- It is no secret that Danny's conquest of Westeros was made so effective by her use of the Unsullied Army at her back. As well as the legions of slaves she was given in Mereen. Perhaps the King wants the ability to forcibly recruit similar numbers, and train warriors like the Unsullied.

How would characters feel about this?

- This I will leave up to everyone to decide for themselves.
- Positives, the middle class and upper class get even richer. The number of poor decrease as a result of selling themselves in to slavery
- Negatives, the obvious moral implications of owning and selling people

King Aegon Character Sheet

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide
Aegon Targaryen
"Aegon the Black. King of the Andals, the Rhoynar, and the First Men. Son of the Dragon. Lord Protector of the Realm"

Full Name: Aegon Targaryen

Occupation: King of Westeros

House: Targaryen

Age: 53

City: Kings Landing

History:

Aegon Targaryen, son of Daenery's Targaryen, was groomed for rule over Westeros since his birth. The man was betrothed to a Lannister bride during his mother's invasion of Westeros, before she was yet pregnant with Aegon. When Daenery's died shortly after Aegon had become a full man, the now King took up the throne without incident. Since becoming Lord of Westeros, Aegon's rule has been one of quiet peace. His accomplishments are counted in the lives of men spared from further war between the Great Houses of Westeros. He has successfully squashed all resistance towards the Targaryen claim on the throne during his lifetime, and now sits as the unquestionable ruler of the Seven Kingdoms.

Family Connections:

Spouse: OPEN - Must be a Lannister
Eldest Daughter: Serah Targaryen - Played by Rel Mayer
Youngest Son: Aemon Targaryen - NPC

Appearance:

Aegon is an extremely tall, broad man. Even without the assistance of his armor he stands six-feet, ten-inches tall. He has broad shoulders, a muscular build, and a large waist which gives him a hulking appearance to those who meet him for the first time. Given his size and stature, it seems unusual to meet the man for the first time while he is garbed in his usual attire of silken red and black robes, and the iron crown upon his head. Physically he appears like someone who belongs in a tournament (perhaps a few years too old) or on a battlefield. Not sitting in rooms with politicians.

In his youth Aegon had short, curly Targaryen (silver) hair. However now he has longer, shoulder length hair similar to what is depicted of Aegon on the 1st in the old tapestries.

Personality:

Most of the time Aegon is a calm, relatively quiet ruler who prefers to listen to the advice of his Council. Then provides his decision after all arguments have been heard. He has been a King almost his entire life. In turn he is relatively calm and forgiving to his High Lords and (as he grows older) usually ends up siding with the lack of change as opposed to a pro-change mentality.

The largest flaw in his personality is the man's pride, for both himself and his family name. He is quick to anger when his ability as a King, his bloodline, or the action of his children is drawn in to question in a disrespectful manner around him. The man is known to imprison, and sometimes execute these sort of transgressions to House Targaryen.

Aspirations and Goals:

- Preservation of his Lineage
- Ensure that when he dies, the right ruler takes the Iron Throne
- Cure Westeros of debt
- Turn Westeros in to the strongest military power in the world

Strengths/Weaknesses/Quriks:

Strengths:
- Legendary Warrior (in his prime)
- Lord of Westeros
- Valyerian Steel Sword

Weaknesses:
- Lust
- Anger
- Egotistical

Character Death: Yes. Killing him though will require very special GM permission, for obvious reasons

Rel Mayer

FAQ:

Who are the GMs?
-The GM is Red Lobster with Rel Mayer assisting.

Who is welcome?
-Anyone and everyone! All sexualities and genders are welcome!

What's the format?
-This will be a sandbox game with threads that branch off into different regions of Westeros.

When does this game take place?
-This game takes place 60 years after the Targaryens take the throne.

What sort of images are preferred?
-Art and real life images will be acceptable. Anything too anime-isk will not be acceptable.

Are any characters from the books still alive?
-No. Unless they are very old and there is a very good explanation as to why they would still be alive.

What is the storytelling aspect of the game?
-This game heavily relies on players plotting with each other. Forming alliances. Forming reasons to cause war on the other. Political intrigue, military battles, and even social situations as the world changes. Communication with players is key.

Will there be GM events?
-The game will have some GM events, but the game relies on collaborative storytelling.

How many characters can I play?
-A maximum of 3 characters, but you may only play one Head of House.

Where do I send my finished character sheet?
-Please send it in Private Message to Red Lobster and Rel Mayer.

What about the head of major houses?
-You can only play one head of house. They can't be reserved, and will be approved on a character sheet basis.

What about heads of minor houses? Can we make our own house?
-Yes! But if you're creating your own house, you will need to have the motto, sigil, and history approved by GMs.

Can we play non-noble characters?
-Please do! We left the noble houses open for people to kinda do their own thing, but that doesn't mean we don't need profession workers, brothel workers, knights, men of the black, etc. etc.

Am I allowed to change the alignment of my house after the game starts?
-Yes! But it will have to make sense in the story, and we'd prefer to keep the houses and players balanced. You can't break or form alliances without good reason. Think of this as a political RP.

Do I have complete control over my house as the head of the house?
-No. This is why communication with your players is key. If you want to make a big change, you need to plot and make sure it's alright with the other players writing characters inside your house that would be affected by it.

Will magic be in the game? (Example: Wargs, Faceless Men, Ashaii, etc. etc.)
-At the moment, no. There will be potential for this later in the game, but we're going to wait and see what the feel and balance for the game is first.

What happened to the dragons?
-The rumor is that the dragons died alongside Daenerys, but no one knows for sure. Right now one of the Targaryen motives is to bring back the dragons.

Are we allowed to have events that take place in the Eastern Islands?
-No. We're leaving this open to the Westeros area for now.

Can players GM their own events?
-Yes. Please PM Red Lobster and Rel Mayer first for permission.

What forum will this game be located in?
Extreme. It may not be the sole focus of the game, but there is potential for it. We will use a Content Warning tag.

Can character death happen?
-Yes, but it must be discussed with the player beforehand. See ruling description.

What happened to the White Walkers?
-Nobody knows for certain. It is assumed that when the Targaryen's re-invaded Westeros, the White Walkers returned to the icy North, and have not been seen since.

Add much as i love me a cephalopod, the greyjoys do not really speak to me that we'll for writing purposes.

Aiden

Can we claim a house and make an NPC ruler?

I want to make a Barratheon heir, as an NPC and bring in a descendant (of Barratheon Blood) into a brewing civil war.

(basically I intend over the course of this RP, to have my descendant reclaim the Stormlands in time)

BruceTheCat

Hey Aiden!

Just to be clear about your question, you are asking whether you can create a NPC for the Head of House for House Baratheon, while you create a heir as your PC?

Yes, over the course of the game, before the head dies.

Yes, over the course of the game, before the head dies.

So another question!

How would you feel about GMs NPCing the Head of the House until they're gone?

Edit: Because it's a super valid point if you have a character that relies on an NPC dying, and we're trying to figure out the best option to making it work.

I believe they were forced back behind the wall, but if you have an interesting idea involving a Wildling that clashes with that, please PM us or just respond back here!

Posting interest! Right now I've got a plot idea to explain a Greyjoy in King's Landing that I think I can get behind. Not looking to play the head of house though, to be clear.
Like what you see? I am currently looking for new plots!

No issue, I am willing to work with anyone else who wishes to plot in House Barratheon, better if we can collaborate but I don't want someone to take the role then shut down my character because their plots don't mesh well with my own.

SO quick recap on what i have in mind.

Shireen had multiple girls, those girls all had boys from nobles of lesser standing. Shireen remain as Head (she is very old) and needs to pick an heir. (then Gm stuff happens, that girls can take the claim but her grandsons are all dick bags and her granddaughters all unworthy).

My plot idea is a "war of the Stags" between them all.

My character would be the grandson of Gendry Storm, who is returning to see the land his grandfather left many years ago. Looking to thank Davos (in this case his descendants) as well as make his own way and finds himself in the middle of this civil war.

So quest 1. Find the Davos descendants (pref serving House Barratheon still)
Quest 2. Become an anointed knight, he is trained well but he spent his life overseas
Quest 3. Be legitimized as a Barrathon.
Quest 4. Become Ruler of the Storm.
