Angelus

Greeves was a normal man with a normal life. At the ripe age of 26, he was deemed a widower and a 'would b' father. A tragic accident had claimed their lives, leaving the well-known detective wallowing in misery. His life mainly consisted of work, sleep, and chronic alcoholism. For 3 years he believed she was smiling back at him during the long winter nights of December. Three years he held conversations with the woman as if she were really there...as if nothing had changed. One day however, all of that had changed. No longer could he bask in the glow that was her encouraging smile...no longer would sh tell him to keep pushing forward. Night after night he waited from night til dawn...but she was a no show. That moment when Greeves knew he'd finally lost her, marked his descent into darkness.

Today was a fairly cold day. On Greeves' to do list was nothing but, to drink and sleep. However, upon looking into his pantry for more booze, he discovered he run out. Rushing sluggishly over to his front window he peaked out onto the sidewalk to see a mass of white. Dammit....it had snowed--and it was still daytime. 'Damn...' he thought as he looked down at himself through bloodshot eyes.... "There's no way..." he breathed as his eyes trailed off to his wrist watch.... "No damned way I'm leaving this house at 10am...." Bloodshot eyes, 10 o'clock shadow, and booze scented clothing he'd been rotting in for five weeks wasn't going to get him into any bars...and it certainly wasn't going to charm a sales clerk into selling him any either. "Yea...no..." he murmured to himself as a fleeting thought of him drifting outside of his home crossed his mind. Making a fool out of himself so early in the day would surely cause his wife to roll over in her grave with disgust. With that in mind Greeves ventured across the living room retrieving his cell from crease of the couch before plopping down.

"Damn..."

Looking through the list of names....{Insert name here} was the only person he could call.  It had been two years since the last time he'd spoke with his old friend. Greeves wondered if his number was still the same... He pondered even more if he would bother coming by. Greeves had stopped responding to all calls and e-mails after his wife's accident....deeming himself a worthless fool who deserved to drown in his own self pity and uselessness. With a hesitant thumb he dialed the man's number and it actually rung. With a sigh the man slouched down into a slump on the arm of the couch as he waited for the other to pick up--if he would.
