Anyone want some apples?  ::)

Name: Bon Neriwynn
Age: 27
Race: Cup
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Pansexual
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 215 lbs
Hair Color: Sandy-brown
Eye Color: Green

General Description: Some may have seen the Ace of Cups but not realize it was him. The Ace of Cups is a fabled warrior and the trump card of the Cup Kingdom. Even though he wonders about the lands performing good deeds for those in need, the Cup Kingdom still claims him as their champion and thus keeps his identity a secret. Unlike the traditional interpretation of a warrior, Bon does not wield any weapons. He doesn’t even wear armor! He resembles a farmer or commoner and has an extraordinary charm that makes him attractive beyond his physical appearance. Bon has plenty of strength and stamina to complete any task—if you couldn’t tell by his size. A unique trait is his slightly pointed ears.

Personality: Bon cares about others and always selflessly helps someone in need when he can. It can be accomplishing a quest or rebuilding a dilapidated structure. Over the years, Bon has acquired some handyman skills that have made him knowledgeable in various trades, from construction to farming. The ace is always in a good mood, and his positivity can be pretty infectious. He can sometimes be boyish, appealing to someone’s inner childhood with games and jokes. On the mature side, Bon has many admirers and open relationships. His love is often greatly desired, whether as a friend or a lover. He offers plenty of attention and affection with an intensity some cannot get enough of. Sometimes, Bon is taken advantage of and finds himself doing more for others than for himself, leaving him sometimes empty and unfulfilled. However, certain beings he encounters can refill his metaphorical cup and make him feel happy again.

Bon is a pacifist and refuses to wield a weapon. Some believe he is crazy, but he has survived long journeys without ever needing to defend himself. He is so harmless that not even the beasts are bothered by him. Bon has unusual gifts that may be his true power.
Likes: Delicious food, bountiful harvests, romance, helping others, jokes, and interesting stories.
Dislikes: Feeling empty inside, others who are hurt or dying, conflict, and destructive practices (deforestation, salting the earth, etc.).

Occupation: Jack-of-all-trades, handyman, wandering champion/hero of the Cups
Card: Ace of Cups
Weapon of Choice: None
Secondary Weapon: None
Armor Type: Bon usually wears commoner clothing such as button-up shirts, suspenders, trousers, and boots.

Powers

Upright

1. Divine Love – Bon’s ultimate and passive power is his divine love. Many do not realize they are being affected by it. The happiness one feels when Bon visits, when he’s spending time with them either as friends or intimately, when he brings his friends and loved ones gifts, when he’s there when no one else is. Bon’s presence can be healing, soothing someone during dark and stressful times. When Bon is around, all worries are almost forgotten. This love one feels for Bon works in his favor. Others may feel compelled to protect him from harm as though his existence was necessary and too important to end. Bon is the embodiment of the love Tarot beings should have for each other.

2. Spontaneous Creativity – Bon is really good at figuring out problems. His creativity can be seen in his construction. He demonstrates an extraordinary talent for art, whether it be architecture or sculpting. Bon can paint your portrait like a master painter. Where does all this talent come from? It could be from his journey and the many tasks he has completed throughout his life. Maybe Bon just has a natural gift for creativity.

3. Plentiful – Bon can work tirelessly. He has plenty of strength, stamina, and love to go around. When he starts a task, he can work until it's complete. However, he will always stop to rest with others who may be helping him. He likes good company. Bon is quite the lover. His love is intense and seemingly endless. If his partner wants to keep going, he’ll keep going to their surprise. His plentiful aura can affect others in positive ways. He may bring a business plenty of revenue as his presence attracts customers. Stubborn fields may suddenly sprout in excess with large plump produce after he’s been there. He can bring others plenty of good luck.

Reverse

1. Unreadable – Bon cannot be figured out even by the most experienced tactician. His always happy and loving demeanor masks his true feelings. He may be defensively keeping these emotions locked away--held personally against his chest so others cannot see them or be affected by them. He does not want to give others problems. He only wants to give them joy.

2. Refill – Sometimes Bon needs a refill. When he is feeling emotionally empty, he will go into hiding, which doesn’t help him refill his spiritual cup. Instead, his cup refills slower than if he continues interacting with others who care about him. No one has ever seen Bon exhausted or in poor spirits because he always hides just like his emotions. Once Bon’s cup is refilled, he will resume traveling and helping others. Sometimes, people greedily drink more from him than he can refill.

3. Hydrokinesis – Bon can manifest water from his spiritual cup. While he won’t ever use the water as a weapon, he can give it to others to rehydrate them or save fields from drought. Unfortunately, using his water will put Bon in low spirits and force him to retreat into seclusion to refill his cup.

Background: When Bon was born, nobody knew he was an Ace of Cups. He seemed like an ordinary child until his growth spurt. He grew into such a big boy that his parents suspected something was odd about him. When Bon learned to manifest his card, his parents saw that he was special and took him immediately to the court. An Ace of Cups! One has finally appeared. With the harassment they experienced from the Sword Kingdom, the Cups felt relieved to have an ace up their sleeves. While Bon was no warrior, they believed he was still a trump card to use against the invasion. Nothing was going to change the fact that he was an ace.

Instead of working directly for the court, Bon desired to roam the cup lands, helping those in need. The court respected Bon’s wishes and even chose to keep his identity a secret from other kingdoms. Bon’s efforts have since kept the kingdom plentiful despite the Sword occupation in the east.

Sirian Eve

Name: Selune Duskwhisper
Age: Appears to be in late 20’s.
Race: Pentacle
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Pansexual
Height: 5’8”
Weight:140 lbs
Hair Color: Silver
Eye Color: Shimmering gray, like a stormy sky, with faint flecks of starlight.
General Description: Selune has an ethereal, almost otherworldly beauty. Her slender frame moves with a grace that seems too perfect to be mortal, and her sun kissed skin has a faint luminescence, as if kissed by starlight. She wears a patchwork cloak made of fabrics from all four kingdoms, symbolizing her connection to all lands and none. Her tattered gown shifts between shades of twilight—deep purples, blues, and blacks—as if woven from the night sky itself. She carries a small satchel that seems empty but always produces something unexpected when needed. A faint, almost imperceptible aura of melancholy surrounds her, a remnant of her divine past.

Personality: Selune is a dreamer and a wanderer, embodying curiosity, spontaneity, and a touch of recklessness. She is optimistic and free-spirited, often acting on instinct rather than logic. Her carefree demeanor hides a deeper longing to understand her purpose and the mystery of her card. She is deeply empathetic, often sensing the emotions of others, but her divine detachment can make her seem distant or enigmatic.

Seven Words to Describe Her
1. Curious
2. Spontaneous
3. Optimistic
4. Empathetic
5. Rebellious
6. Enigmatic
7. Melancholic

Likes:
- Exploring new places and meeting new people.
- Stories, songs, and tales of adventure.
- The beauty of nature, especially forests and starlit skies.
- Acts of kindness and selflessness.
- The thrill of the unknown and taking risks.

Dislikes:
- Rigid rules and societal expectations.
- Being confined or tied down.
- Cruelty and exploitation of the weak.
- Her own moments of self-doubt and vulnerability.
- The weight of her mysterious past.

Occupation: Wanderer and storyteller. Selune has no fixed home or job, but she often trades tales and songs for food and shelter.
Card:  Wouldn't you like to know
Weapon of Choice:
**Starlight Dagger**: A small, elegant dagger that glows faintly with starlight. It is lightweight and perfect for quick, precise strikes. Selune uses it more for self-defense than aggression.
Secondary Weapon:
*Twilight Cloak**: Her patchwork cloak can shift and expand, creating a defensive barrier or ensnaring enemies in its folds. It also enhances her stealth abilities.

Armor Type: Cloth (her twilight gown and cloak provide minimal protection but enhance her agility and mystical presence).

Powers

Upright (New Beginnings, Freedom, Potential)
1.Leap of Faith
Selune can teleport short distances, appearing in a burst of starlight. This ability is instinctive and often activates in moments of danger, allowing her to escape harm or cross barriers.
2. Starlit Aura -
Category: Supportive
Selune’s presence inspires hope and courage in others. Beings who interact with her feel a renewed sense of purpose, as if her very essence reminds them of the possibilities that lie ahead.
3. Veil of Twilight
Selune can shroud herself in a misty veil, becoming invisible to both sight and magical detection. This power allows her to move unseen and avoid conflict.

Reverse (Recklessness, Loss, Missed Opportunities)
1.Gambler's Misfortune

Category: Offensive
This spell can cause unpredictable outcomes, some of which can place the target in harm's way or cause a chaotic environment. The potential for danger or luck makes it more offensive in nature, as it can directly affect the enemy's actions or their surroundings.. Sometimes this ability will backfire and cause her to become the target if her melancholy is the strongest emotion felt at that time.
2.Echoes of Regret

Category: Defensive
Although it leaves the target vulnerable, this spell is more about affecting the enemy's mental state. It renders them incapacitated or frightened, which could defend against further aggression or disrupt an enemy's focus. It weakens their resolve, creating an opening for defensive or supportive actions..
3. Shatter Divinity

Category: Offensive
This spell severs the target's connection to their power source, rendering them powerless. It directly diminishes the enemy’s abilities, causing them to be vulnerable and unable to defend or act effectively. This makes it a strong offensive spell to weaken or incapacitate an opponent.

Background: Selune’s origins are shrouded in mystery. She awoke at the edge of the Black Mountain in the Land of Swords, with no memory of her past. The only clue to her identity was the glowing card in her hand, its image obscured by a strange mist. Since then, she has wandered the world of Tarot, guided by intuition and the whispers of the wind.

Though she no longer remembers her divine origins, fragments of her power remain, manifesting in unpredictable ways. Selune’s journey is one of redemption and self-discovery, as she seeks to uncover the truth about her past and the purpose of her card. Along the way, she has befriended individuals from all walks of life—merchants, scholars, warriors, and even the occasional monster. Her presence often disrupts the status quo, whether by inspiring others to take risks or by inadvertently uncovering hidden truths.

Selune’s ultimate goal is to reclaim her lost divinity, but she must also confront the consequences of her actions and decide whether she truly wishes to return to her former self. Her journey is not just about reclaiming her power, but also about understanding the beauty and fragility of mortal life. Along the way, she may discover that her role is not just to wander, but to inspire others to embrace their own journeys and take leaps of faith.  She also has a loyal furry companion by the name of Streak, who likes to follow her around from time to time. Streak has a habit of disappearing on her, but always pops up at the right time.

3.**Fragmented Divinity** - Selune’s connection to her card weakens, leaving her feeling powerless and adrift. In this state, she may struggle to access her abilities or find herself unable to make decisions.

@Sirian Eve The only issue I notice is the reverse spells. These are still spells cast. They're not like weaknesses or vulnerabilities that just happen because. They're something activated, so you'll need to make those into spells she can still use, whether to affect herself or others.

Queen Mate? ;)

Name: Aislinn Caireach nic Gadeon
Age: 27
Race: Swords
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Hetero
Height: 5'6
Weight: 140lb
Hair Color: Ash blonde
Eye Color: Blue-grey
General Description: Aislinn is fair with porcelain skin, but of late this has been smudged with soot and blood. She bears stormy blue-grey eyes which, in shadow, look more silver than a calm moonlit night and are hard to read through the overhang of thick dark lashes. A kink in her left brow gives her a perpetual incredulous look due to an old scar healing off kilter, which she wears it with pride. Her previously gilded mane of hair in youth has since turned ashen from the harrowing climb to the summit of the Black Mountain. Although she does not have full bodied musclature of some warriors, her limbs are shapely and strong despite being hidden beneath her armour. To underestimate Aislinn on her appearance alone can be deadly - and she uses that to her advantage.

Personality: Self-reliant - Discerning - Determined - Cogent - Strong - Intelligent - Candid - Tactical - Privately affectionate - Regal - Cruel - Meddlesome - Repressed
Likes: Fresh fruit (an extravagent rarity, she knows), tea made of honeysuckle that grows at the base of the Black mountain, confidence, calculating her options, witty banter, introspection
Dislikes: Lack of ambition, clingyness, being controlled, liars

Occupation: Would-be Queen
Card: Queen of Swords
Weapon of Choice: Her longsword Bright Fang, or Goineog Geal in her mother tongue. The blade has never left her side since she began her ascent.
Secondary Weapon: A hairpin dagger used to keep her hair back from her face. Form and function.
Armor Type: Aishlinn wears a modified imperial cuirass, gauntlets, and greaves which she had cast to fit her figure. The tassets of her cuirass were torn on the way up to the summit thus exposing the mail tunic below, but the body of the cuirass remains intact, albeit proudly dented and bloodied from use.

Powers

Upright
1. Protective Aegis - [Defensive] - Coming to the aid of those weaker than herself has never been something she considers a fault. Aislinn is stalwart in whatever position she wishes to hold and it is nigh impossible to break her from it. The woman is a shield wall personified casting the pall of her great sword between her goal or ward, and any threat that dares to encroach upon it.
2. Wisdom - [Support] - Aislinn is incredulous and forthright, and will not hesitate to openly berate someone in the wrong. She suffers no fools nor their antics. Such skepticism is useful in giving Aislinn an edge with honeyed words so she can detect a liar very easily, as well as catching a potentially dangerous situation from minute mannerisms well before things implode.
3. Cutting Edge - [Offensive] - Perhaps the only thing sharper than Aislin's tongue is her blade, Bright Fang. She has an almost obsessive desire to keep it on her person even in times without the threat of violence (but such is the life of a Sword, is it not?). The blade is weilded with immense accuracy and strength as if a sentient extension of herself, though her preferred form utilizes parries and redirection to wear out enemies. Growing up, Aislinn was hard pressed to find a match to her swordplay.

Reverse
1. Lom Do Chuid Fiacla - [Offensive] - If needs must, Aislinn can invoke the wrath of her forebears into an attack that renders her embroiled with bitter rage. This side of her can err on sadistic, or mercurial cruelty, which is a dangerous height that is difficult to come down from until the completion of her task.
2. The Gloam - [Defensive] - Certain vulnerabilities are a sticking point. Should Aislinn be wounded severely, she will involuntarily cast out a localized shearing gale, though the blast cannot discern friend from foe.
3. Thy Devious Design - [Defensive] - Aislinn is molded by the hardship of her young life whether she likes it or not. If threatened, she may feel justification to project that venom outward in harsh words or subtle machinations. Her coveted wisdom becomes manipulation to secure her desires. Whatever happens inbetween is a means to an end or the tip of her blade... whichever comes first.

Background: Aislinn recalled the first time she saw Deominos: when King Gadeon mac Siuirtan was overtaken, but their mother swayed the boy. His young son and elder daughter survived the perilous descent with their mother, whose head was hung yet her eyes held resolve. Such was the way of their lands. Swathes of dark ashy soil rent Aislinn's eyes glassy for many months 'til they managed to leave behind the shadow of their once-home, their bogs and dark forests. Securing passage to the eastern coast of Cup land, the trio arrived ragged from the elements to a near unrecognizable state. Aislinn's small family was accepted in the small shire of Hollyhead on the eastern border of Cups. There, their mother eeked out a modest living cultivating herbs and scavenging the forest, whilst her younger brother took up scout work. Aislinn grew to familiarize herself with both the hardness and beauty of the world. She became a strong young woman carved of stone, well known for her swordsmanship and sophisticated bearing. Yet for all her time surrounded by the serenity of Hollyhead, Aislinn could not bury that small voice telling her to go back home. To the Black Mountain.

The second time Aislinn saw Deominos was in passing, whilst Swordsmen carved and salted their way into the eastern coast of Cups to claim the land for their King. Seeing him again was a sign, she thought. It bolstered Aislinn's decision to go back to the mountain. So a short time later, Aislinn left her family and their quaint home behind - and her mother in turn unveiled the pieces of her own sword used during her ascent decades prior. Beseeching the local blacksmith she had the blade reforged, and after taking an accounting of her provisions, set on her path.

It took months to journey to the mountain and make the climb. Like a sickness of the mind she watched men wither away in the climb, lulled by its false siren song only she knew. Some tested their blade to a cave bear's claw. Fell to the crags of the aptly named Stagfall crest. Or tested themselves against her Bright Fang and saw only a flash of silver before death. Through the lengthy, taxing journey she only ever kept looking upwards until... Until one day she felt that old polished stone under her grip and hauled herself that last length. She reached the summit, swathed in darkened armour and blood, to the bosom of her kingdom.

DungeonMeowster

I keep finding myself coming back to this thread. The WORLD-BUILDING and THEORY CRAFTING y'all are doing is *chef kiss*. Also the premise is absolutely lovely, it scratches so many itches I didn't know could be scratched all at once!

I would for sure like to be counted as interested, and would request an Arcana!

I do have a question (well, a few dozen to be honest but one thing at a time). What is being viewed as limitations vis-á-vis character physiology? I heard tale of elves, centaurs, and what not though most, not all, of the accepted characters are very human(oid). Is that the general aim of OC's, does there exist creatures such as centaurs, beastfolk, goblins, orcs, etc that are not innately considered monsterous and/or enemies, and would lineages such as tritons, genasi, fae, etc be in the vein of humanoid or still too outlandish? I'll admit I'm a heavy D&D buff who enjoys seeing the more monsterous folk given a place in the world beyond the usual "they're just evil, yes all of them". As such I just want to have clarification on expectations, limits, and what the GM and group have accepted (or are formulating) as the canon for the world at large.

Please let me know if I can further clarify my questions!
Take your time, but take it

Not speaking for TBT here, but since there is an openness to the players developing the game world, I believe we've determined that human(oid) characters are not the only kind present in Tarot. There could very well be elf and orc (et al) adjacent races and beyond, like centaurs.

Also coming to this with D&D tinted glasses, I was considering a sort of faun or fae for my Eir originally!

Monstrous races both physiologically or otherwise would be great to include. I wouldn't connotate appearance with alignment, either. A hardy, scarred centaur with hallmarks of the woolly rhino living in the arid cold clime of Wands could be akin to a helpful sherpa, or a mischievous beautiful fae clan known for tricking Swords into their doom or servitude in the harsh forests, as examples.

A hardy, scarred centaur with hallmarks of the woolly rhino living in the arid cold clime of Wands could be akin to a helpful sherpa, or a mischievous beautiful fae clan known for tricking Swords into their doom or servitude in the harsh forests, as examples.
I agree with Fiadh. I am basically not limiting anyone's imagination. If we run into bumps, we'll just smooth them out.

Kes looks as much like a demon as a human by "normal" standards of appearances, and I didn't include any kind of discrimination against her in her background on purpose. As far as I'm concerned, go wild. ;p

If anything I might just recommend aiming for something that "fits" the general background & vibe you're going for. Not strictly realism, but like, being a merperson when you're living in a land-locked area might be, uh. Hm. There's probably a popular aphorism for this but it's eluding me.

There could very well be elf and orc (et al) adjacent races and beyond, like centaurs.

Thank you all! Yes yes, SURELY something out there could be used to describe it, ah well XD

This gives me some greater insight for what goop I put into the character cauldron, and everyone's characters are so cool so far! Really helping dig out the world and I hope to help!

Take your time, but take it
