- - - - - Welcome to Purgatory - - - - -

Although the lands seem familiar, Purgatory is merely a shadow of the realm of the living. Here, the souls of those who have passed reside. Some forever wandering the gray lands, never realizing the truth or perhaps denying the fact of their deaths. Others eventually come to realize what has occurred. That they are no longer alive, that the world is duller than what they remembered, there is no buzz of life. Memories of their past begin to flicker through their minds, their last few days on Earth, the days that had had a lasting impression on their memory, life as they knew it...gone.

With this realization, one becomes aware of things they had not noticed earlier. Unknown abilities are slowly discovered as hidden talents stir. Abilities, powers, talents that they had not possessed in life but now wield in death. Or is this just another life?

The existence of angels and demons slowly come to light, along with the knowledge of the unending battle between good vs evil. A battle that has lasted for centuries; now, a battle that draws in the Nephilim as the two factions attempt to fill their ranks. Only two paths are open as escape routes from the dreadful life in Purgatory. To become one of the Angels, or to become a Demon.

Whispers of one called the Iurus Formator drift by, the Oath Maker. Rumors say that she can grant any wish, any request for the right price. Will you ask for power? Perhaps request something that you were never able to obtain in life? Would it be money? Or perhaps even love?...How much will you pay? Is it worth the cost of your life...?

Ask yourself this: Just how close are you to losing your humanity?

Will you Fall or Ascend to the front lines of Armageddon?

- - - - - Setting and Summary - - - - -

Purgatory is a space for dead souls to wander until they have become either Angel or Demon. It is a world similar to Earth in appearance and nature - just grayer, duller, missing that spice of life since nothing is truly alive here.

While the Nephilim will have memories of Earth, this is just a space in time. Think of it as a sort of mirror to the modern-day world, but not as colorful, not as vivid, not as real

Nephilim are dead souls, the only way to leave the endless cycle of Purgatory is to either Rise to a Cherub or Fall to an Infernal. However,  some Nephilim may not realize that they have passed on while others are just in denial. These people (most likely just NPCs) would probably go about living as they always do. As in, an everyday usual boring schedule. Whether it be going to work, visiting the bar on the way home, etc. For the Nephilim who come to realize the difference they will begin to discover their own new abilities, the different factions, and the battle.

This is a game that focuses on the good and the bad of humankind. Basically, will your character be able to withstand greed, envy, and evil intent that all humans are born with? Will your character be able to rise above themselves and resist temptations, to make the choice that is deemed morally 'right' and be righteous?

The story will mostly revolve around the Rise and Fall of the Nephilim. Will they lose their humanity first, or their lives? Then once they have Fallen to Infernals or Ascended to a Cherub, will they be able to continue in this fashion? Or will they slowly begin to change, and eventually turn to the other side?

Nephilim will be able to explore various aspects, from things that they were not able to obtain during life, to things that they cannot possibly obtain at all. This means it can be as simple as wanting to be loved and popular, to being invisible. Depending on the deal, its price will vary. Nephilim can pay with their life (something small can cost as much as a few days, while something big can cost years) or trade in one of their abilities.

••• Applications will not be a first come first serve basis. Characters must first be approved by at least two of the three GMs. We are looking for players with a certain level of literacy as well as a consistent post rate. As such, we ask that players provide enough in a post to give others plenty to work with in response. An estimate of 4-5 paragraphs regularly.

••• It is common courtesy that if you find you will not be able to continue the game for whatever reason, or need to take a break, please let us know instead of just disappearing without a trace. This is rather frustrating and can also hold up the game.

••• As for post rate, posting one to two times a week is perfectly fine - though more is always encouraged. We value quality over quantity so don't expect new posts every day.

••• This game is being placed in the Extreme category as a precaution. While there may not be any EX sexual content it is always an option. If anything, this is mostly just in case there are violently gruesome scenes (such as deaths). However, if there is any NC content, please keep in mind that the Non-Consensual act is in character only. You must get permission from the actual player beforehand and include the agreement in a PM to one of the GMs to keep us informed.

••• Please be courteous to each other and most of all, have fun!

The Nephilim
The Nephilim were once said to be children of Angels, however, in Purgatory they are merely the souls of the deceased. Here, they wander, 'living' in a world very similar to that of Earth and delving deeper into themselves as they search for a path to move on. Still susceptible to the usual flaws of a human, the only difference between a Nephilim and a human is that they have already passed on. As such, Nephilim will find that they now possess minor abilities and eventually become aware to the fact of Angels and Demons. Whether they move on to become an angel or a demon...this is something that only time can tell through their chosen actions.

All Nephilim have a maximum of 100 years lifespan and two minor abilities. Their humanity begins at 0 at the beginning of the game and will shift as the game progresses. Depending on their actions and choices, as well as ultimately their own thoughts and desires, their humanity can drop to -50 or raise to +50. If a Nephilim reaches -50 humanity before death (as in they haven't used up all 100 years of life yet) then they will fall to the side of the Demons. Likewise, if they reach +50 before death then they will be raised to the side of the Angels. However, if a Nephilim dies (ran out of life) before their humanity has fully reached either side of the spectrum, then depending on which side they were leaning to more then they will go to that side.

Once a Nephilim has become angel or demon, they can edit their profile with the necessary changes. However, a Cherub/Infernal still have the ability to be swayed to the other side. An angel can become evil and an Infernal can grow a heart. Of course, there are limits to how many times they can do an act of good/evil and get away with it. Mana is kept track of even if they themselves do not realize it. Upon reaching three fouls, an Arch Angel/Demon will visit with a warning. At the fourth, the Seraphim/Prince arrives to personally put an end to them. This is ultimately death with no return and will be the complete end of that character.

Angels
Those who protect all that is good and righteous, Angels are pure and holy messengers who attempt to show the Nephilim the silver lining no matter how dark a cloud may be. While Angels do not lie outright, shading the entire truth is a common practice.

  • Seraphim - There is only one Seraphim. The Seraphim is the highest position within the order of Angels. She is in charge of the entire faction of angels and all that goes on within it. Like the Prince and Iurus Formator, the Seraphim is Omnipresent and can be in multiple locations at a time. Also, she is able to know where all of her angels are at any given moment.
  • Arch Angel - There are two Arch Angels who work as the Seraphim's Right and Left hands. They are her most trusted and are second in power only to the Seraphim herself, though the Right and Left hand are equally matched otherwise. Occasionally, the Arch Angel will be sent with tasks, such as the warning of a Cherub when they have accumulated three Mana.
  • Cherubs - Cherubs are the lowest ranking within the Angel hierarchy. These are basically Nephilim who have been changed to that of an Angel.

Demons
That of nightmares and horrors both unspoken and unknown, the Demons represent all the sins possessed by humankind and are forever trying to bring these feelings to the surface. To show the Nephilim their darkest desires and inner demons, but to help the Nephilim realize that a part of them actually enjoys the power at their hands, the reckless inhibitions...that is a demon's main objective whether it be done with trickery, bribery, and deceit - all is fine as long as they are able to fulfill their goal.

  • Prince - There is only one Prince. The Prince is the highest position within the order of Demons. He is in charge of the entire faction of demons and all that goes on within it. Like the Seraphim and Iurus Formator, the Prince is Omnipresent and can be in multiple locations at a time. Also, he is able to know where all of his demons are at any given moment.
  • Arch Demon - There are two Arch Demons who work as the Prince's Right and Left hands. They are his most trusted and are second in power only to the Prince himself, though the Right and Left hand are equally matched otherwise. Occasionally, the Arch Demon will be sent with tasks, such as the warning of an Infernal when they have accumulated three Mana.
  • Infernals - Infernals are the lowest ranking within the Demon hierarchy. These are basically Nephilim who have been changed to that of an Demon.

Iurus Formator
The Neutral party, the Iurus Formator or Oath Maker, is a mystery to all. All that is known is that there is only one Iurus Formator at any given time. Other than that, the Iurus Formator is mostly known for her ability to fulfill any 'wish'...for a price. It does not matter who she is approached by, Angel, Demon, or Nephilim, she will grant all wishes and make a deal with them.

There is only one Iurus Formator, she works only for herself and while some of her actions may be done for good or for evil, everything is done for her own interests and benefits. Like the Prince and Seraphim, the Iurus Formator is Omnipresent and can be in multiple locations at a time. Unlike the rest, the Iurus Formator is the only one who knows just how close a Nephilim is to Rising or Falling. She alone is able to see a Nephilim's level of humanity and also keep track of how much life they have left.

Lost Souls/Wraiths - NPCs
A lost soul is a Nephilim of the past - one who had never been able to Rise or Fall. Perhaps they had never realized the truth of their passing, perhaps they had been in denial. Whatever the case may be, they are now mindless shadows that crave warmth, life. Lost souls are attracted to the Nephilim, attaching onto them and sucking their energy and eventually their life. Nephilim who never come to realize the truth of their passing (and thus never become privy to seeing the actual world around them) end up wasting away and become yet another lost soul.

Wraiths are lost souls who have grown in power. It may be that they have clung on to several Nephilim and changed them into lost souls as well, before ultimately draining that soul and becoming a part of each other. Or it may just be a group of lost souls that had banded together. Either way, wraiths are stronger and can pose a threat to the Nephilim.

Samael Grimaldi

#1
Name: Pride

Age: Unknown

Faction: Demon

Angelic/Demonic Status: Arch Demon

Appearance:

Height: 6’3

Weight: 220 lbs

Eye Color: Blue

Hair Color/Length: Blood Red/Short

Personality: Supremely Arrogant and short tempered, he is the embodiment of pride, root of all sin. Pride is loyal
only to the Prince, and whatever commands he issues, otherwise his only fixation is on infecting as many souls with his selfish creed as possible.

Biography:

As old as the flames of hell themselves, Pride has stood along side the Prince since the dawn of creation. Serving him with unquestionable loyalty, relentless tenacity and a fierce thirst for corruption. Since the struggle for salvation and damnation began, Pride has stood at the forefront of battle for his master; as a master of trickery and manipulation he uses his silver tongue to corrupt the Nephilim.

Pride uses various methods to weave webs of sin around his targets; his method of choice for the current century has been to appear as a Priest, a decorated member of the clergy that assists citizens with moral dilemmas by offering his sage advice to those that are willing to lend and ear. Taking the form of the head Bishop for the Catholic Church within the city, he uses council, confession and sermons to warp the masses to his dark masters word.

Grace/Wickedness:

Major Ability:

The Seven Deadly Strings:

As the root of all sin, Pride possesses the ability to attach spiritual webbing upon people, cast through the tips of his fingers. This webbing allows him to infect his victims with the sin that suits them most; allowing him to tip their moral scale in the direction that best suits his, and his masters purpose. This power only puts a powerful desire into the person, whether they succumb to that desire, or resist it is a matter of willpower. However, the struggle to resist it grows painful over time; it ceases to hurt when the person musters enough will to banish the desire from the mind.

Minor Ability:
Transmutation:

Pride can use this power to change the elemental make up of his body, by hardening his flesh, making his body gaseous, or even into a liquid. For the most part is serves as a defensive power, but he has been known to transmute his nails into blades to assist in torture or battle.

Flaws:

Supremely Self-Absorbed: Pride is both his greatest strength and weakness, he is easily consumed with his own desires and purpose, which can distract him from the greater purpose and leave him blindsided.

Benevolence: Any act that is pure in nature, and performed without any ulterior motive causes Pride to weaken and feel sick; it is not a well known fact, but if a Nephilim becomes aware of his corruptive motives, and does a pure act in his presence it will break his power over them and often ward him away for a time, depending on how pure the act is.

Addiction: Pride’s power is directly tied to Sin; the more he corrupts the stronger he comes, and vice versa. If he is kept from using his abilities to sway the souls of man, he will eventually grow weak and no longer be able to maintain his disguise or manipulate his powers. For this reason, he is rarely off the clock, and always striving to break those around him.

I like what I see so far, should be interesting to see how he plays the Nephilim under the guise of a priest.

You have the stamp of approval from me, but you still need another from one of the other two GMs. Since you're applying for Arch Demon I think you should wait and see what Remiel thinks. =)

PeacethatPowerbrings

Name: Karna

Faction: Demon
Angelic/Demonic Status: Arch Demon
Appearance:

Karna Appears as a black robed figure, standing 8' tall. The robes envelop Karna's body in pitch darkness, though what little can be seen is that Karna's hands are fleshless bone. Karna carries a scythe, with a 9' haft.

Karna never speaks, instead manifesting a kind of external interpreter, a female, suggesting that Karna is, or was, in fact a kind of female. She goes by the same name, and makes no distinction between herself and the true 'Karna.'
Karna's Interpreter

Personality: Stoic and calm, slow, and quiet. Karna tends to be stoic at all times, and quiet, rarely stirring except for some purpose. Karna's interpreter shows the largest differentiation in personality with the 'true' Karna, though this may be because she is not entirely controlled by Karna, though they share a mind.

Biography: A creature in two bodies, Karna is a embodiment of a kind of vice that comes from lack. Karna does not share in the vices of excess but in the vices of lack, lacking all virtues. As such, Karna's interpreter seeks vices of lack, not excess, not caring, or perhaps knowing, about the more active vices. Karna lacks the intellectual virtues as well, and as such, tends to be a creature of pure physicality, never crafting plans or tricks, but instead approaching directly, speaking directly, though her interpreter, and challenging directly.

Grace/Wickedness:

Major Ability:

Death Blade - Karna wields a scythe which it uses in direct conflict. Possessing some manner of power of its own, the blade always returns to Karna's hand, and in any other's hand it become ethereal, and harmless. The blade is invulnerable, and the haft is still living after a fashion, and riddled with thorns.

Minor Ability:

Shadow Robe - Karna wears a dark robe which shields her form from view. This robe moves as though it is alive, defending Karna's body inside with its rough cloth, and repairing itself when damaged. Although Karna is slow, and often easily flanked, the robe has seemed to take up the place of Karna's flesh.

Flaws:

Speed - Karna is not only slow by nature, but by necessity. Karna is incapable of great speed, though she moves with little sound, and no footsteps, she seems to have the stride of someone over-burdened, and is slow to turn, and move.

Trickery - Karna does not comprehend tricks, ploys, or other strategies. Although she makes up for this often with brute force, Karna's mind does not work on a level to comprehend things around her in any but the most straightforward manner.

The Drain - Karna embodies the vices of deficiency, and as such, attempts to create this in others. However, in order to do this, the interpreter is needed, and this is a drain on Karna's power. The more active the interpreter becomes, the less so Karna can be, and vice versa, this results in the possiblity of Karna being unable to act while the interpreter is occupied, a possiblity that makes Karna even easier to trick, or even evade, depending on the situation, though in either case, draining Karna's attention to one form or the other at the opportune moment is useful for those who know how to do it.

Judgement - Karna is unable, or unwilling, to attack those who do not display some vice of deficiency, although this is incredibly unlikely, it makes a judging necessary, and slows Karna further, this is an unecessary step if some authority has decreed a course of action already.

I am filled with recollections of lives I have not lived.

Esoteric Myobi

Good to see you here Peace, you are always welcome to my games. ^^

I like the profile so far, very interesting. Though I just wanted to make a few things clear that I wasn't too sure from just reading.

I understand that Karna and her interpretor are different entities and yet are one and the same as well. But would it ever be that only one appears and not the other? Or are they always seen together?

Also, you mention that Karna is lacking in virtues, intelligence included though she makes up for it with brute strength. What would this entail? Does it mean that she is 'simple' and may need things explained or reworded to almost like that of speaking to a child? Or is it just that she has a difficult time plotting and scheming since it is not her forte? Her specialty is instead in the now, the present - basically acting without thinking?

PeacethatPowerbrings

The interpreter is not always around, so at times she simply isn't around, so Karna's true form is always around, whereas the interpreter is not. Though the interpreter can leave Karna, but the Drain still applies, so they're more often together than apart when the interpreter is there. Because they share a mind, the further away the interpreter gets the worse the drain gets, as together, the interpreter has access to Karna's true form's sense and doesn't require as much of Karna's will to control.

Karna lacks the intellectual virtues, not intelligence itself. In a sense she isn't good at planning and with tricks or traps because she  doesn't plan for contingency, proceeding always with what she has, and setting strict conditions, like her need to judge before killing of her own accord. In a sense she doesn't imagine anything really, even to the point of being unable to come up with odds on a dice roll.
I am filled with recollections of lives I have not lived.

Esoteric Myobi

Starlequin

#11
Hi. I was kicking around and thought this looked delicious, so I whipped up a CS. Hope I'm welcome! If anything is unacceptable or needs altering, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Name: Samantha Cole

Age: 23

Preferred Faction: (undecided)

Appearance: 5'6, 115 lbs, short dark brown hair, brown eyes.
Pic.

Personality: Samantha is a very compassionate young woman who's been feeling that something is very wrong with her life lately. Everything is supposed to be so much...more, and it's just...not. She doesn't really understand everything that's going on, but thanks to her deeply ingrained protective and nurturing spirit she's bound and determined to help whoever she can for as long as she can.

Biography: Sam Cole was a rather average, if quite attractive, young woman living in a small mid-western town with her younger brother Will, who positively adored his older sister. Working as an EMT, she saw some pretty horrible things and her experiences could rightly be considered traumatic. Still, her natural optimism and kind heart kept her from becoming withdrawn or scarred, and she touched a lot of lives with her compassion.

One night while pulling a double shift, Sam was caught in a terrible accident caused by a drunk driver. She lingered in a coma for nearly three days, until her broken and mangled body finally gave out. When she woke up, she was back in what felt like her old life...except it wasn't. Something is just...off. The most obvious difference is Will's absence, but there are other tell-tales as well. Flowers seem faded, sunlight isn't as warm as it should be, food all tastes the same, and she hasn't felt the wind on her skin in what feels like forever...

Abilities:

Empathy:
Sam has the ability to sense the emotions, and occasionally the thoughts, of other individuals, and if she concentrates hard enough she can transmit her own emotions and thoughts to others. She has had little practice with this ability, however, and it tends to 'switch on and off' at random, which can be very distracting.

Transference:
Although she is still largely unaware of this talent, Sam can also transfer physical damage from others onto her own body, and in times of extreme stress can transfer damage from her own body back to others. This ability is considerably unreliable right now, though with practice she may gain more control. If it doesn't kill her first.

Flaws:

Bleeding Heart:
No matter what the circumstances, Sam has a difficult time resisting the urge to help someone who appears to be in trouble. In a world filled with treachery and deceit, this could easily lead her from a bad situation into a worse one.

Irresponsible:
Growing up in a lousy home as her younger brother's caregiver, Sam has rarely allowed herself to cut loose and shirk her duties, no matter how self-imposed they may have been. As a result, she is extremely susceptible to the idea of simply blowing off her responsibilities and letting someone else handle everything.

Resentment:
Even though Sam has always been the type to run head-first into trouble to rescue others, she does get a little tired of feeling unappreciated. A small part of her is always tempted to say, "To hell with it" and let things fall apart.
You live for the fight when it's all that you've got.

#18
Name: Nicholas Bekker
Age: 27 (With an additional ten spent in Purgatory, seven of them spent Aware)
Preferred Faction: Unaffiliated
Personality:  Suave, sophisticated, a real "get your foot in the door" type of salesman.  He knows how to read people at a glance, even if that "person" happens to be something not quite human.  Nicholas is a man who knows what he wants, and more importantly he knows exactly how to get it.  Hooking people is both an art and a skill to him, but he ultimately considers other individuals to be scarcely better than pawns or tools.

Nicholas is particularly gifted when it comes to keeping secrets from others, and will go to insane lengths in order to ensure that others do not glean them from his mind or his tongue, including and up to tricking himself into forgetting it entirely--only to recall it later based on some carefully timed stimulus.

Biography:
In life Nicholas was many things, but he was employed for the greater part of his twenties as a corporate downsizer, tasked with the unpleasant duty of flying about the United States in order to personally relieve men and women of their careers.  This soul-draining task would have worn down on just about anyone--anyone with the slightest ounce of humanity pumping through their veins.  Fortunately (or unfortunately), Nicholas was not encumbered by anything so frivolous as that.

Unsurprisingly he aspired towards greater heights in the business world, only to find his life cut short one day by a particularly disturbed employee who had caught wind of his approaching termination and decided to exact some small bit of vengeance by way of a 9mm pistol.

Awaking in Purgatory, Nicholas spent the next several years traveling through its muted landscape before finally coming to the realization that he was simply going through the motions of a life that had been abruptly stolen from him.  He afterward learned of the conflict between the angels and demons, and of his own unwilling role in it.  Suffice it to say that the man has very different plans in mind.  Very different plans.

Abilities:

  • Persuasion:  Nicholas spent the vast majority of his life learning how to sell just about anything to anyone, and in death his natural flair for manipulation has been supernaturally enhanced.  This manifests in an aura unconsciously projected around himself at all times, an aura that makes his words seem more agreeable and his targets more compliant.  It is unclear if Nicholas is even aware of this ability.
  • Minor Conjuration:  With a flick of his wrist, a bat of his eye, or a snap of his fingers he can conjure small objects at will.  He can summon no objects larger than a watermelon, and even that is pushing the limits of this power.  Nicholas cannot create an object that doesn't already exist in some form, only pluck it from somewhere else.  In order to conjure specific objects, he must not only be aware of their existence, he must also know exactly where they are located.  Unless an artifact is specifically warded against conjuration or larger than his limitations allow, it is within his power to obtain it.

Flaws:

  • Paranoia:  Nicholas is incapable of fully placing his trust in anyone or anything--including himself.  Though he possesses remarkable self-control, thus keeping himself from falling into the tired old stereotype of the twitching lunatic who sees shadows in every corner, it makes connecting with other Nephilim on any personal level nearly impossible.
  • Sociopathic:  Though he understands emotions in an academic sense, Nicholas cares very little for them beyond their use in the arts of manipulating others over to his own world view.  He can fake them easily enough, and knows precisely what to say and how to act in nearly all social situations.  His composure also allows him to control his face with similar ease, ensuring that his mask remains absolutely genuine despite his true intentions.
  • Narcissistic:  Like most sociopaths, Nicholas is ultimately self-serving and has an overinflated sense of self-importance.  Unfortunately for everyone else, he may very well have very good reason to be so confident in his own abilities.

Gonna put my CS where my mouth is!

Name:Edward Riley
Age: 28 (One Year in Purgatory. Newly awaken.)
Preferred Faction: Angel

Appearance: Six feet tall, and athletic African American. Once he held an almost constant grin, like he was the only one in on the joke, but now holds the bored and sometimes angry look of a person far too accustomed to being the punchline. His hair is always cut short, and has a tendency to keep his manner of dress pristine, though the quality of clothes is mid-range at best. He could command the attention in a room, if only he had the urge to do so.

Personality: Reserved, Introspective. Seen as a quite leader who leads more by example than words

Biography: Edward has felt like a stranger in a strange land for as long as he could remember. In his case, it happens to be very true. Though he lives his life as a salesman for an office supplies store, his heart constantly feels the agitation of something undeniably missing. Life isn’t as it should be, and those he work with, along with the people he shares his “life” with, seem like cardboard cutouts.

He has started to debate his sanity.

Every so often, on no set schedule, he wakes up in a code sweat as he hears a group of people who sound familiar to him. His family, or at least the feeling of it. There’s a sound of heavy motors and the radioed voice of the Old Man telling them to stay sharp. All is then quick until a blast rips through him, and he’s staring at a darkened smoke-filled sky. Then he’s awake. He has no idea that he died a Marine in a foreign land, only the feeling of emptiness, and a life now somehow misspent.

Abilities:
The Lance: The electric-blue representation of his newfound will, of which he still requires a purpose. The Lance is an extension of his right arm and can reach out to fourteen feet (basically the longest length I could find on a medieval lance). It enables him to shape the energy enough to knock down or cut with a thought. As it feeds from his will, it also is the embodiment of his intent. In that, the only way to master the ability is to master himself.

The Trail of Souls: Allows him to home in on a person he’s met, or someone who has left a considerable amount of themselves behind (such as an ability that has been used in an area to great effect) using the unique trail their soul leaves behind. It is almost impossible to find someone he hasn’t met or someone whose power doesn’t distort or destroy the world around them.

Flaws:
Vindictive: The philosophy of “An Eye for an Eye” sounds just fine to Eddie. He will pursue justice, or at least his idea of it, until he feels payment has been rendered.

Aggressive: The very nature of his abilities points to a man used to finding an enemy, and bringing the fight to their doorstep. This can lead him to many times walk into an obvious trap, just to get to the object of desire at the moment.

Power: The activation of his ability at first will cause him some distress, but slowly he’ll seek to control the power he has, then increase it. He will lust at the possibility of another level just over the horizon. Always in reach…if he had the will to take it.

Each flaw can be helpful and hurtful. The balance or imbalance of his flaws could lead him down a dark path despite the “good” it brings. After all, the road to Hell will forever be paved with good intentions.

*Thanks for the time reminder, Shihong!

Hrm, I hadn't actually thought of there being a Neutral party besides the Oath Maker.

Normally the Nephilim would be swayed to either side due to their actions and choices but it seems that Nicholas Bekker just doesn't care unless he profits from it? Though honestly I'd have to say that I'm under the impression that he would eventually sway over to 'evil' since he's all manipulative and persuasive and does everything for his own interests. To be completely Neutral I'd almost think of 'apathetic' being one of the terms used and a Nephilim such as this would probably turn into a lost soul eventually. How about you just list yourself as Undecided for now and see where the game takes you?

Writersblockade, it looks like you'd make a vengeful Cherub if you manage to get there. Also, just wanted to make sure. Edward Riley has been in Purgatory for two years now and has only just newly awakened to the truth of the 'world'? As in, he is now aware of his surroundings or he's still slowly figuring them out?

Talk2meguy

Name: Andre Jameson
Age: 26
Preferred Faction: Undecided
Personality: Andre is a fairly laid back individual who takes things, both good and bad as they come rather than worrying about things that may be. It is easy for him to believe things that others might think are impossible and wasn't at all surprised when he had found out he was no longer in the real world but purgatory. He does good when he can but that isn't to say he isn't selfish or even a little vein at times as well.
Biography: Before he had died Andre was a model, nothing serious but he had been in a few magazines. For a while he had lived the lifestyle as though he were a famous model, going out all of the time, partying and being with women but he started to slow down, not because he was tired but because it was so repetitive. Sure the locations were different but the people and the drugs were all the same.

He had decided to change his lifestyle, and the night that he had decided to was the same night he had been pushed from the balcony of his penthouse by what he thought was his best friend. dying instantly but coming to purgatory Andre doesn't remember the details of his death but it wasn't long before he found out that he was no longer in the 'real' world as it were.

Though he had decided that he was going to quit the lifestyle he noticed, absently at first, that nobody else was partying the same way. Sure they went out and had drinks and drugs but it wasn't the same flair. Looking at himself in the mirror everything seemed wrong, like the world had darkened around him. His good looks paled in the mirror, they were still there but the tone seemed dry, excitement didn't exist in the same way. Death sucked.
Abilities:
Alter Physical body- If there is something that Andre does not like about his body he can fix it on thought alone. Of course he doesn't realize this is an ability so if he notices a part of his body that needs to be bigger or smaller he will work it at the gym and after one or two sessions it is the way he wants it. It would be far easier if he knew about this ability.

Lightning / Static manipulation - Again something he doesn't realize that he had but his cell phone never dies while it is with him; though he still charges it assuming it is just a good battery, and if he gets mad at someone and grabs them they will get a small electric shock a little more painful than a static shock.

Flaws:
Vanity- Andre looks good and he knows that he does. Though he is generally a good person he will avoid things if he thinks it will harm his appearance in any way (eg: If someone is being mugged he will not fight for he fears that he might get hit)

Supremacy- Having decided to quit drugs and drinking on his own he believes that he is better than most people out there and often times isn't afraid to throw it in their face. If he can do it... well no not anyone can, he is better than most after all

Greed-. He gives some, and even if he doesn't realize it he always expects something in return. It could be publicity or a promise of something better. This is something that Andre doesn't even realize he is flawed with, he gives to charity but it is always news worthy when he does and never anonymous and he never allows it to become routine so that it fades from the public view.

Yeah, I really want him just starting to figure it out...in fact, Let's say that he's been in Purgatory for a year, and the emergence of his abilities awakens him to the world around him. It also is going to start a merging of the life that he had with the life he leads now. He'll have to come to grips with that fact that he's dead. All of this may happen quickly, or go slow, but I wanted to get a little character development in there, y'know?

Name: Vorianne
Age: Old enough to not trust the Nephelim, still young enough to not see their redeeming qualities
Faction: Angel
Angelic/Demonic Status:  Arch Angel (If you'll have me :) )
Appearance: Tall but slim Vorianne is a woman not prone to physical vanities such as makeup or accessorizing, preferring stark simplicity.  Whatever clothes she wears will be utilitarian, a soft grey, and more often than not, armored.  Long, flowing black hair falls down her back, bangs often hanging down over her face and startlingly deep blue eyes.  Vorianne carries with her a strong otherworldly sense, an alien beauty that both entrances and repulses and mystifies.
Personality: As an Arch Angel Vorianne is nearly judgement personified, the naked sword ready to strike down evil wherever it is.  Constantly eager to cleanse and rebuke Vorianne at times has to be restrained and is often posted to simply observe the Nephelim in an attempt to help her understand the mystifying creatures.  It hasn't helped, as she often sees the evil produced by them while blithely ignoring the good.
Biography:  ((Not sure what the backgrounds are for Arch Angels (beings of purity or mortals raised to their station).  If the former, then she was and is a pure spirit that is still dealing with the at times horrific nature of man, cynical and wounded deeply by the evil they commit.  If the latter, the product of a broken home and ground away by long years of abuse and trials, becoming convinced in the supremacy and inevitability of justice as a salve to her wounded soul.  Let me know which and I'll edit this :) ))
Grace/Wickedness: Condemn - by concentrating on a particular soul, Vorianne can reveal the evil and pain they have inflicted on others and turn the horrors they set loose upon themselves.  Sociopaths are suddenly wracked with guilt for the agony they have caused others, murderers feel as if they themselves lie under the executioner's axe, etc.  The ability only works so long as she maintains eye contact with the target and is able to speak to them, calmly reciting the horrible litany of their crimes.

Truthseeking - Justice requires clear sight and understanding.  While concentrating on a target (in their physical presence - conversations via telephone or recordings are not subject to the effect) Vorianne can determine the truth of a person's statements.  Critical Note - this will NOT determine the actual truth, but instead wiether the speaker believes what they said.  As such, a delusional individual could say with perfect sincerity that the cat made them do it.  As well, it requires a good deal of concentration and is quite unpleasant (the view of another person's soul required by the ability is both physically and spiritually draining) and so Vorianne uses it only when she already suspects falsehoods.

Flaws: (Any weaknesses or desires. 3 minimum, 5 maximum.)

Justicar - As a near personification of justice, Vorianne is zealous and intollerant.  While her blade may protect the innocent, almost everyone is guilty of something and she will focus on such almost to the exclusion of all else.  Perhaps you did save that man, but you did for your own purpose, not for concern for him.

Loathing - Vorianne realizes she is not perfect and seeks at all times to purge herself of her impurities.  While not prone to physical mortification she does constantly question and berate herself for her failings.  While not indecisive, her decisions often haunt her in the quiet moments, yet another reason she seeks to fill her time with punishing the wicked.

Sacrifice - As a personal representative of the Seraphim, Vorianne cannot allow herself to pursue her own goals and agendas.  Love is a distraction, a vice that leaves one open for the Enemy.  Self interest is the path to evil and one must always put the mission first.  Pain suffered in the cause of right is holy and must be given freely.

Hope this at least sparks interest.  Please do let me know if she's suitable for the RP :)

Kirinis

Also intrigued here's a potential archangel submission, feel free to savage if you think the character needs more work or revision.

Name: Saziel

Age: Unknown

Faction: Angel

Angelic/Demonic Status: Archangel

Appearance: An androgyne always garbed from neck to toe completely in loose clothing betraying not a cue that might give indication of what Saziel's true gender affiliation.  As for speech, Saziel has yet to utter a word, letting their silent presence and a sort of readable body language serve.

Personality: The embodiment of temperance, Saziel is the loyal hand of the Lady and seemingly has no independent will at first glance.  Longer observation of Saziel will reveals that they are primarily motivated by a sense of compassion which drives Saziel to work swiftly.

Biography: As the one who delivers judgment and succor from the Lady, Saziel dares not act autonomously lest they cause undue disruption.  As such, Saziel is often referred to as the Lapdog of the Seraphim by neutral observers and detractors alike.  Saziel's primary task is to lay all things to rest as according to the Lady and their presence on Earth is heralded by a string of deaths.

Despite Saziel's uninvolved neutrality when not acting according to the Lady's wishes, Saziel has little compunction with orchestrating interventions that suit its purposes through cutouts and third parties.

Grace/Wickedness:

Major Ability: Final Succor: With a mere touch, Saziel brings to an end to any mortal's tale.  Final Succor is not usable against Cherubs unless specifically authorized by the Lady.  Whether the ability is usable under any circumstance against Demons is unknown and has never been tested.

Minor Ability: Iron-Clad Temperance: As part of Saziel's nature, it is immune to all matters of persuasion short of a direct order by the Seraphim that contravene its orders or directives.  Saziel cannot be dissuaded or distracted from its holy imperatives.

Flaws:

Interventionalist: It is also a poorly hid secret that Saziel has an independent agenda in regards to the continued welfare of humans on Earth and an preference for letting humans die of old age and natural causes.  As such, Saziel is compelled to intervene when in the presence of humans in danger of dying from unnatural causes.  In such situations, the protections of Iron-Clad Temperance do not apply and Saziel is vulnerable to all influences regardless of source.

Iron-Clad Restraint: Due to the effects of Terminal Sanction, Saziel has learned to restrain itself to what some would consider a ludicrous degree.  As such, Saziel will never engage in any action that would lead to the termination of an life without prior authorization by the Lady.  Likewise, Saziel continues to maintain an stance of pure neutrality that forbids it from taking sides in any motion in Purgatory.

Terminal Sanction: For all of the power behind Final Succor there is only one notable limitation behind it.  Saziel can never deactivate Final Succor willingly or unwillingly and as such all applicable who touch Saziel's skin are automatically subject to its effects.  As such, that is why Saziel is garbed completely at all times.

Destiny Ascension

Name: Katrina Miller
Age: 25
Preferred Faction: Neutral
Appearance: Well figured and a little less feminine, Katrina is short and slender, physically athletic and looks very professional for her chosen life. She has short, neck length brown hair and bright, remarkable green eyes.
Personality: Katrina is focused and determined to the point of obessiveness. She has the ability to be polite and stoic, but prefers to speak her mind and ignore consequences. She can be motivated by certain factors, but more often than not Katrina takes a laid back, if firm, approach to most things in her life, and after.
Biography: Before her death, Katrina was a pilot for the US Coast Guard, tasked with doing sea rescues and intercepting illegal activity on the water. This choice of life was brought about her experiences as a younger child, growing up in Virginia, she spent time on the water. When her family boat was overturned by a wave and Katrina, just a teenager, was thrown overboard, she was forced to wait for hours on top of wreckage from the boat before being rescued. As she grew, Katrina developed powerful nightmares, most of them featuring her own situation, but they soon developed into nightmares featuring other people, and the same fear and sense of doubt she'd had. This drove her to join the Coast Guard, trying to avoid others feeling the same as she had.

Katrina was killed by a large wave bringing down her helicopter in a vicious storm. She never even saw it coming, and when she awoke on a beach, she assumed she had survived. But in reality, she was dead. It took her a good deal of time to figure that out, but slowly, things started to seem off. She never really understood what had happened to her, and her memories were vague. As time went on they became clear, and the world around her decended into confusion. She had assumed the depressing color of everything was a result of some kind of crash, but the memories of her final moments on earth added to her confusion. She finally figured it out. Even so, she has become vaguely aware of the conflict between Angels and Demons, but still hasn't figured out her powers. As it is, she is trying to figure out what happened to her and where she is.
Abilities:
- Thermal Offering - Katrina is never cold. Literally, her body temperature is normal and she doesn't burn everything she touches, but she can spark a small flame in her hand without consequence and use it to do anything you can with a lighter.
- Night Sight - Katrina can see extremely well in the dark. She can't see in total darkness, nor can she see in even near darkness, but in comparison to others with excellent night sight, Katrina has perfect night sight.

Flaws:
Good Samaratan - Katrina has a soft spot in her heart for people in dire need. She does not donate to help the homeless, but willingly puts herself in danger to save someone else. Even if the situation is literally hopeless, Katrina throws everything she has into her efforts.

Easily Angered - Katrina has a very fiesty, very strong temper and has a hard time controlling it. She doesn't lash out physically or verbally, but applies an unfavorable assumption to someone who sparks this kind of reaction, and readily does so. She is easily overcome by anger, which in turn clouds her judgment and her sense of right and wrong.

Reactionary - The combination of her other flaws, Katrina acts instinctively in situations where she feels threatened, angered, wronged or when she believes she can resolve a situation quickly, regardless of its danger or questionable motives. Katrina rarely thinks these kinds of things through, especially not in situations that require snap decisions.

Thrill Seeker - Katrina defied gravity for the better part of her career when she lived. Through this, she has a tendency to take risks for no reason other than for her own benefit. If she knows, or thinks, it wont harm anyone else she has little hesitation to do something decisively dangerous without fearing consequence.

Intense Remorse - In consequence with her death, Katrina believes she has failed her crew and the people they were sent to rescue. Her memories are so vague, she believes it was her incompetance that brought down her helicopter, even though she had no way to avoid it or even see it coming, she still believes firmly it was her fault, and believes it so strongly, the very thought brings her to an emotional down that she is hard pressed to escape.
"Build courage when courage seems to fail, gain faith when there seems to be little cause for faith, create hope when hope becomes forlorn."
Andraste's flaming sword! I know where babies come from!

I just wanted to ask Twistedlace a question concerning the power condemn. How will that power affect the demons you may encounter, I only ask since it seems strange to me that a demon would feel any sort of remorse or guilt when it comes to their crimes. Or is it more for use on the Nephilim? I don't mean anything by my question, just curious. :)

Plan is (with approval from the higher ups, in tirplicate :) ) is for Condemn to act much more as an offensive action against demons.  Whereas as a Nephilim could feel the flames of guilt and self loathing overpowering them it could, if applied strongly enough, actually burn a demon with holy flames.  One thing I also wanted to add, and this again with approval from the GMs, that Condemn can be used to place someone in a permanent tortured state, but only on the command of the Seraphim.  Vorianne herself wouldn't have the authority to doom a soul to such agony.  Thanks for the question hon :)

Hm, I think this would depend on each player/character and their preferences. It is possible that a Nephilim Rose/Fell centuries ago and eventually made their way to Arch. However, I'd say for the sake of simplicity that the Arches are basically just beings who have been around since the beginning. Possibly coming to power after the Seraphim/Prince have established themselves and then chosen for the role. If we go with this, then your character can't really be considered 'young' anymore but she can still hold that inner hope of seeing good from the Nephilim.

As for your ability, Condemned, I think that even with demons it could still work. While demons may not necessarily feel guilt or remorse for their actions, they will still feel the pain that had been suffered so it can definitely be used as a combat skill. I'm not so sure about the holy flames and permanent torture idea however. Let's see what the other GMs have to say about that.

Shall post comments for the next two applications once I'm done reading/thinking through them. =)

Then I certainly don't mind it being temporary.  And given what you said about origins I think Vorianne will have been around since the beginning.  After all, a good cynicism takes time to build up :)

Lady Kitsune

Good evening, everyone.

Thank you for your interest, we are happy to see new faces.

I was looking over the CS and I have a few questions......

twistedlace, your truthseeking- it is a good idea but my concern is that this is a game of half truths and lies, and if you could never be lied to.....I guess I'm wondering how you would work not being lied to?

Kirinis, your character has a penchant for doing what he is told and nothing more, would that make him unreliable when he is needed most?

I would just like to know these things or perhaps they can be modified to suit.
I am working on it, I swear!

twistedlace

Thanks for the feedback - so far as her ability it's limited to when she concentrates specifically on an individual and as well it doesn't work as well as you'd think (I blame myself for being unclear ><).  It discerns if the person speaking BELIEVES what they are telling is the truth.  A psychotic killer would truly BELIEVE that they were justified in killing the old woman because the dog was plotting against them.  A narcicist would believe that they truly ARE the center of the universe and that they are justified in doing whatever it is they choose.  So, while a person couldn't lie to her if she was watching for the lie, it's certainly possible for them to shade the truth when she's not in full blown interrogation mode.  <sighs> Purity, thy price is vigilance.

If, however, the ability is wrong for the feel of the story, I'll happily change it or substitute it for another ability.  RP breakers or 'god cheats' aren't any fun and wasn't my intention :)  ((<kicks herself for having TWO over powered abilities in her application>))

Esoteric Myobi

Just a note for those of you who have listed yourselves as a 'Neutral' faction.

As Nephilim (and eventually Infernal/Cherub), you are still susceptible to losing/gaining humanity/life and eventually Rising/Falling. Being 'Neutral' may mean that the character does not care for either faction but their actions/choices are still accounted for and will still affect them.

So if you purposely want your character to forever stay neutral, then it will be a hard balancing act (not impossible though). When they Rise/Fall, Infernals/Cherubs can still have a change of heart - though it becomes a bit more life-threatening at this point since they will effectively be killed off by the Prince/Seraphim upon reaching four Mana (with a warning when they have received three).

Hope this made sense and makes things clear for all. Just wanted to make sure that everyone knows that they can still end up on either faction despite being listed as Neutral. =)

Otherwise, Destiny Ascension gets my stamp of approval. Also, twistedlace, perhaps you would like to edit your profile a bit so everything is clear? (It will also makes things easier later on since I link everyone's profile to make it easier to refer to when needed.)

Kirinis, your character has a penchant for doing what he is told and nothing more, would that make him unreliable when he is needed most?

His pedantic nature would make him unreliable when needed most since he follows a strict interpretation of the letter of the order and he can't conceive of any other way than to carry out the Seraphim's order completely verbatim even at cost of efficiency and effectiveness.

Esoteric Myobi

Kirinis, if you have your heart set on being Arch Angel then I would suggest you re-write your character sheet. I can't see the Seraphim (or the Prince for that matter) having an Arch that they could not rely on 100%. The Arches are the Right and Left hands of the Seraphim and Prince so they would need to be reliable and be able to make wise decisions on their own - all in the hopes of recruiting more Nephilim to their own cause.

However, if you're happy with your current character then you can edit him a bit so that he is a Cherub instead of an Arch. If so, remember that Cherubs only have one minor ability available to them.

Name:
Shenovi Katsakachi
Age:
Ageless
Faction:
Neutral
Angelic/Demonic Status:
Infernal
Appearance:
Appearances can be deceiving and that is too true if one doesn’t know already what kind of man Shenovi happens to be. Outwardly, he might not come off as someone horrifying, especially body wise as he is of a below average build; but nothing as shockingly to be classified as gaunt. Those that hear rumors about him may imagine a man with a much more muscular build, where in turn his skin is not quite too flabby or ripped for that matter, holding a bit more leanness to it in the end. There are other tales of him being a monstrosity in appearance, but physically wise that is a false rumor as well. To think how absurd people would go about spreading lies about ghoulish hands, trying to make him sound like some Dr. Jekyll or Hunchback of Notre Dame. Really, if he knew who was spreading such false tales, they would be sorry as he is nothing of that sort either. Dr. Jekyll? Who would they be trying to kid with similarity references. As for the other stories, well they are going too far to make him out to look like a monster. He doesn’t lean when he moves, he actually caries a rather elegant and classy stance, even standing at a lovely height of five feet and eleven inches. In truth he isn’t anything as they would attempt to falsely imply, he holds a more morbid beauty about his figure, one that is as daring as a thriving flame is to blind, suicidal moths.

What makes up that alluring side of him, one might wonder? Why, from a first glance of his face he can often be mistaken for a female, even with those longs locks of brown and blonde hair of his which are tied back up into a knot, although allowing a few bangs to cluster about in various angles along his forehead and down below it. The way he even wears his hair is rather feminine to some degree, with one side of those locks dominating over his left eye and cheek alike upon occasion. The other side is parted along the right, revealing a shorten strand directly leveled with the outside region of his right eye and from there one can make out what appears to be birth marking of sorts, composed in the lower right angle of his right eye; whether or not he carries a similar makeup on his other cheek is unknown, but it is highly assumed to say the least. The rest of his hair is maintained in a decorative and colorful array of rope and other ties to keep it pinned back, and give him a hint of a ’peacock’ appeal.

Also, as known, it isn’t hard to mistake his gender reference; because, for one he keeps a very clean shave, not a shred of facial hair on his features, saved for his excessively thinned eyebrows that hold their own unique arch above his pink eyes. Of course, this isn’t enough to create gender confusion, as Shenovi also powders his cheeks, uses richly dark mascara around those eyelids of his adding to a blacken look, and those lush, pink lips of his share their own touch of crimson lipstick around them. His fingernails are left unpainted, keeping their bland and usual shape, although with the rest of him prettied up, it is impossible to disclose his gender, due to his transsexual outward appearances.

Though one should also know better than not to confuse his gender, frankly from his own taste in fashion. You see, when in the city, he holds a more refined edge about him. Pants and shirt alike are well woven, the pairs usually consisting of ebony silk. Over it, he is drabbed in a leather vest, that is sewn over with that of fine animal skins, the varies shaded patterns can only lead to one possible conclusion of the creatures that made up this lavish clothing belonging to that of deceased leopards. The vest itself is long in length, draping down his body and onwards a few inches above his lower thighs, short in width, never expanding pass his shoulder regions. As for footwear, he usually adorns a simple set of black, leather boots.

Personality:
Sickly Sadastic: This is a man you don’t want to be alone in a room with, hell he is the type of guy you don’t even want to be in a hundred feet of. His antics often put some of the most harden of demons to shame and others to shudder in either repulsion or fear alike. To begin with, he is bloodthirsty, but perhaps that is obvious enough coming from his governing sin. Still, he doesn’t just kill his victims, he will take everything from them. He is the type of man that will begin prime cuts on the corpse and remove and even decorate the organs about for all to see in a morbid fashion of art. Not gross out there yet, then let us try necrophilia, as he gets more than just excited from watching people die around him and it isn’t rare for him to have his way with some of the bodies of his victims; whether they have their entrails inside them, out, or hanging about, it doesn’t matter to him as long as he gains the ultimate pleasure of basking in his kills. Like he sometimes says, ‘dead is just as good as them being alive, only a pity they can’t still scream and squirm while raping them.’

This doesn’t mean he doesn’t have fun with them while they are still alive. Why pass up the amusement entirely? He takes his pleasure seriously when it comes into terms of humiliating and torturing his prey, sexually or not while they are still alive. If they die on him, he could always continue his fun, even though it would be a bit dulled afterwards without something living to toy with.

Psychopathically Deranged:Maybe his sadist side didn’t scare you enough, but now we are taking a peak at only a tip of the iceberg of the workings of his mind. Jigsaw anyone, for that is the game you will find yourself playing frustrating over and over when it comes to Shenovi’s sanity level. He is a peculiar man, sometimes in his possession one might find a rejected female puppet, another tribute to his mentality. He relates to the puppet as different things, mother, sister, maybe some woman he might of ravaged recently or murdered. Sometimes he even lets his victims play with it and determines their handling with his fucked up little games to decipher whether or not they should live. He is always judging, from the start and to the end of another’s life. Those that are determined worthy are allowed to live a bit longer, till his train of thought may sway him over that they may not be. Keeping up with his mind is too much of a task, even for the longest lived of individuals who might hadn’t gone insane by just miraculously surviving his company enough to even bother to figure him out.

Furthermore on his psychopathic traits, he may occasionally leads to cannibalism afterwards; whether this results from the corpse being raped or not makes no difference to him. If he is hungry, he will feed, whoever the unlucky dead body happens to belong to, even if it is another demon’s he will still devour it for nourishment. Rarely does Shenovi indulge in ‘people’s food.’ Food for him is people itself and he likes to keep it that way. In his mental side of thinking, to show power is to devour one’s prey, as it is naturally the predators right on the food chain to consume the lesser individuals; and Shenovi thinks of himself pretty high on that food chain.

Devilishly Manipulative: Beyond the fractions that play into the grotesque side of things of him, he possesses an incredible amount of cunning and wisdom. If he ever decided to play chess, may-haps he might even be a master of it, as he knows all the rules of the game of survival. He knows how to use his pawns, when to sacrifice them, when to draw them back. When to attack, and when to defend, and just when to toss aside a valuable piece and sharpen even a tarnish one into something flawlessly unimaginable. He also keeps an eye out on talent, and usually can wield fate into his favor into bringing such newly skills into his own possession. If he isn’t playing mind games, that are entitle into scaring his opponents shitless or using coercion to lure enemy or possible friend into his seductive web of control; than clearly he is playing other cards that may bribe them over. He knows full well that everyone has a price, though finding out what is the difficult part and from there the pieces simply fall into place.

Strong Murderous Intent: To sum it all up, he carries the true makings of a serial killer, rapist, and even fearsome manipulator alike. If one wondered why he is like that, then ask ones self why one might be the way they are? Why does anyone kill? For pleasure, for excitement, for power, for money, or just because they can? For him, it is mostly all of the above and beyond the fact he chooses to, to keep his existence an entertaining one. For him, it is all a game and the moment his eyes set their marking on their target, that preferred prey will already be playing his game, whether they want to or not. Murdering is an influence of power, a demonstration to stir fear and also to generate chaos. Because of this, any simpleminded being may possibly pick up on that murderous and bloodthirsty aura of his the very moment they lay eyes on him; it is there, marked dead from the personality that influences his own fashion statement. Evident from his demented way of watching someone, even if they ask or tell him not too.

Biography:
The Lowborn

Shenovi was never a human being, a frail mortal creature; though neither was he fortunate to come as a firstborn from a grand line of demons. Instead, his bloodline had dwindle, mixed and merge with others through the millenniums, and the only thing he may show as a descendant of Gaap is the ability over water itself(but even that wasn’t anything speculator from his thinned blood lineage.) Still, all in all, he was born a demon; something he may be thankful for, if he could be thankful to anything. If he had any ’status,’ than he would been better suited as a peasant, a simple pawn, easily tossed aside or sacrificed for something far greater.

Still, like all creatures, his bloodline choose to rebel against the cruel chains of fate that it was dealt. The family he was brought into were a ’feral’ bunch, even considerably amongst that of other demons. His kin were a tribe, wrathful and violent, sadistic and malicious. Would one find it hard to fathom that they even tried to prolong what bloodline they had, by not ’watering’ it down any further amongst other demons? Clinging so desperately to the ability that they all possessed, the only thing that may signify importance in their otherwise insignificant lives. Such would later be their own downfall, their insanity and chaotic nature playing the role of a disease to them and a threat/hindrance to other demons.

There were multiple problems within Shenovi’s own family, many he was subjected to as a young child. There was always internal conflict, the males possessing a superiority complex to challenge and try to dominate their way over the entire ‘household.’ It wouldn’t come as a surprise that his brothers may kill one another, that his father(or could a head figure be seen as that as there were many rises and falls) would lay down his hand. Threats to authority were swiftly and deadly dealt with, and even there were other occurrences where one can see their end.

Shenovi’s ‘own’ was brought forth at a young age.  His twisted elder brothers thought that it may be amusing to take him out for a ‘swim.’ The poor child was tossed into many of the grand, bloody lakes, of hell and neither of his siblings offer to help him when he begun to drown. To them, it was gleeful amusement in their eyes, a sick, morbid sense of humor to observe a fellow water demon be done in by the contents of their own element. Naturally, the boy at that time should of died, should of vanished in an abyss of crimson, but such wasn’t the case.

Even as his young form drifted towards the bottom of the lake, he begun to change. Perhaps it was because he was pitted against life or death, the natural need to survived that saved him. Maybe he was already ‘gifted’ amongst his kin at an early age, though the end result was a grotesque one. A first and ’only’ time that Shen would transform, forgoing his human characteristics and taking on his natural shark, humanoid image. His crimson eyes can still recall the disbelief on the faces of his cruel brothers, and then the sweet horror that follow when he tore one of their limbs from their own socket. Death was their punishment and bliss was his own salvation when he listened to their terrified screams and agonizing cries.

Once it was over, he found himself ‘human,’, bare, stranded, bathed in red. This was his end of following along with a family that may otherwise kill him should he return without his disfigured and mutilated brothers. He knew his survival alone would be a rough one. Still, he had no desire to end like those three at his feet, he wouldn’t be scattered and forgotten in a bloody mess of hell.

The Obsession

Growing up within hell by himself was the equivalent of running a gauntlet. Each day was no different to the last, true madness. There were always predators, fellow demons that sought to devour the weak,‘kin’ that Shenovi had to avoid or otherwise outwit, just to remain alive.  Survival of the fittest, through and through, this was his life or in essence, the life of any demon. His reward, on the contrary, being madness, engulfed in it, What amount of sanity he may have had left was only saved by one thing, an oddity  he had came upon and something he rarely lets out of his sight today,

A rag doll, now how such a thing ended up in the underworld is still a question that plagues the demon’s mind, even to this day. How could he ignored such peculiar ‘toy?’ In time, it became the only company he had, the only company that would never betray him or try to harm him even. It was his special partner in crime, and ultimately it has taken upon many names and identities through his lifetime. It has even changed in image here and there, whenever Shenovi may see fit to redesign it from his victim’s belongings.

This inanimate object, perhaps useless in most eyes, has became an extension to Shenovi’s own sanity level. For better or for worse, it has ‘tagged along’ wherever the growing demonic fiend went. It has been an observer to Shenovi’s corrupted nature and even an participant, though the victims never made it far when handling something so ‘precious’ to the demon. In fact, he wasn’t so willing to part with it much till the later, grown up years, of his uncaring life. By then, he had learned how to fully stitch it, should some playmate of his should choose to be a smartass in ripping his toy apart.

Though putting back together the doll wasn’t his only obsession, the demon took it a step further when he discovered the beauty in art, even if it came from a morbid point of view. Also, art itself he had found can instill fear in others and when one may take the time in desecrating the corpses of their prey, and rearranging the body parts and organs in a bloody mess; chances are, not many other demons would dare set foot in that vicinity out of fear of living out a similar scenario. Of course, this doesn’t work for all fiends, but it had lessen some pursuits and had left Shenovi with more time to rest and ’play.’

Still, these two weren’t his only obsessions. His antics were small feats, something he could see, that were just prolonging his own untimely demise. Ultimately he had no choice but to get stronger, to get faster, still his stationing as a demon was one that left little room for such feats. He had no means to limit his own strengths as they currently were and even giving those beneath him some handicap wasn’t satisfactory enough when he still crushed them; and those above his level, well, depending on the gap he often had no choice but to avoid confrontation.

The Pact

-Coming soon to a character background near you!-

Wickedness:
The Pact
Shenovi has formed a pact with the Oath Maker. The pact itself places multiple limiters on his power, which also allows his powers to continuously grow while he ‘trains’ himself against opponents on an equal or lesser footing. He cannot freely deactivate the limiters, nor can the limiters be inactivated upon him without his consent. A mutual agreement must always be made at all times with the contractor, for any stages of his power to be brought into light. If he should fail to otherwise follow orders from the Oath Maker, then his life can be easily forfeit. If all limiters are released at the same time, then he achieves his freedom. However, once a limiter is released, it is not lost, he will forever be boundd by them and the Oath Maker can easily return them as long as she doesn’t release all seven.

The levels of his power in equal strength is as follows.
0 - Regular human/Nephilim
1- Nephilim
2- Able to take on Nephilim + ability
3 - Infernal/Cherub
4 - Infernal/Cherub + ability
5- Arch Angel/Demon
6 - Arch Angel/Demon + ability.
7 -  Freedom and Ultimately the Pentacle of his Power.

The additions in ability do not increase the amount of abilities he possess, instead they increase the capabilities of his own ability.

Minor Ability:
Hydromancy - As rare as it may be foreseen, though given his ancestor, Shenovi possesses a natural control over water and other liquids containing the contents of water. Hence his blood, the blood of his enemies, or whatever else in general.
Stage I: Shenovi is immobile, though as long as physical touch is maintain, he can change the density and volume of anything containing water within it around him. This can be used to shield himself, attack, or whatever properties he may see fit underneath his control. Unfortunately,  he cannot freely move as a result and only when so, he must cancel his control.
Stage II: Mobility is gained, however as usual, Shenovi must keep an active physical link to the element underneath his control.
Stage III: Physical links are no longer a requirement, if liquids are within a close enough vicinity, he can draw them automatically to himself. He can also propel liquids at a target.  (Of course, it won't be a 'splash attack'<Kudos if you got that joke> more like 'spear,' 'bullets,' or something of that like to penetrate flesh)

Flaws:

Pride: Despite his horrific nature, Shenovi is indeed a very proud creature. He will hardly result to undermined tactics in a straight up battle. Because of this, he always refuses to fight above an enemy’s standing. He has no desire or drive in going ‘all out.’ Maybe this also plays into a factor of his own arrogance, still as far as physical conflict is concerned, Shenovi is quite the ‘honorable’ creature. Though he is also still a demon, he may fight ‘fair,’ but by his standards that is of a similar power level of his opponent. Anything else goes.

Strain: A rise of power and then sudden fall is often straining on even his body. The limiters he possess are nothing to be joked about, each time release may serve as a boost in physical attributes, but once returned they weigh heavily upon his body. Also if too many are released at the same time, it may draw a pause of ‘sluggishness’ and slower kick in for his body to adjust. Therefore for these blunders to be avoided, he usually requests their releases one at a time, as for their ‘returns’ well, he is beyond the control of that.

Chaotic Nature: Shenovi has no quarrels with who or what he may end up in a fight with. Normally he doesn’t ‘start’ fights, as in starting with throwing the first attack. Of course that can’t be both said true to him instigating a conflict by his way of words. He has a habit of provoking others, but this is also a side of him that actively seeks out battle.

Wrath: Shenovi’s own governing sin. He is a highly vengeful creature, and if he believes he has been ‘wronged’ in some manner, then he won’t rest to have his revenge. He may even forgo throwing the first punch, depending on the seriousness of the offense, still Shenovi tends to take it far. An arm for a finger. A head for an eye.

Enslaved: As expected, Shenovi is bound by contract,  bound to the Iurus Formator. What means of ‘free will,’ is gone. What ‘servitude’ to the Prince is also abolished. Shenovi follows no one but his contractor, and her orders are absolute. Should he overstep his agreement, then his life will be terminated.  Until he is set ‘free’ of the all the limiters, then he will continue to be her faithful minion. Honestly, what choice does he have?

How so? On the power rating to his 'minor ability?' Because each stage requires him to release his limiters for him to use his ability or his ability to strengthen. Well, every two stages, rather. (With second limiter release, he gains his ability, fourth it increases, sixth it increases one last time) His powers overall are always limited, I don't see him being overpowered given the contract he has and the fact he fights on equal footing of his opponents.

If Arch Demons/Angels target his mistress, it is only fair for him to have some edge to even out the odds, is it not?

Lady Kitsune

#47
Name:Izuriel
Age: As old as the Dawn of Time
Faction: Angel
Angelic/Demonic Status:Seraphim
Appearance:
Beautiful, as any creature of Heaven, she has wings of soft dove gray with pinions tipped in black.  Once they were white, to her sorrow.

Personality:Izuriel has a mighty temper that she keeps in check with the great force of her will.  An Angel of Justice and Punishment, she is cold and prone to sarcasm.  A lusty Angel, she likes to play with her victims and oft times pushes boundaries just to see if she can be overpowered. Around humanity for too long, she is no longer as pure as she once was, this being her punishment.  Too bad she is enjoying it.

Biography:When the stars came into existence so did Izuriel.  She was light born new and happy.  Then the Almighty created the World, the Host rejoiced.  When he created humans, she was curious.  They were intriguing creatures and she rejoiced.  They lacked the power and beauty of the angels but there roughness fueled her curiosity.  Assigned as a Watcher, she partook of their strange pleasures.  This was deemed wrong much to her annoyance and still she secretly returned.

Reprimanded for her indiscretions, an Angel of love, she was forced to be an Angel of Justice and Punishment.  Millennium of death and mercilessness and she had become a different kind of creature.  An outcast Angel but part of the Host as her position was needed.  Too skilled and knowledgeable to let Fall, she was relegated to her duties for Eternity.

Yet she grew tired of destruction, it held no glamour for her and she missed her loving ways, scarred by the knowledge that she could never be fully capable of that purity, tainted by death and cruelty.  She began to refuse her orders and after many centuries, she was locked into a star as punishment to contemplate her disobedience.

A century passed and a war between demons and angels was waging.  It was commanded by the Almighty that it cease and a new set of rules was set.  She was Chosen to decide Armageddon.  She was reluctant but even she could not refuse a direct order from God.  The Angels worried about her state of mind but she was one of the most powerful Angels.  And she had the specific skill set to handle Demons since she had dealt with them in her Punishments.

Grace/Wickedness:

Hand of Searing Light: A white hot light from hands can burn.

Song of Seraphim: Her voice in song, can heal or lure like a Siren’s call.  When angry , she can call the winds or burst one’s insides.

Sword of Justice: As an Angel of Justice and Punishment she can call to her hand a mighty sword, flaming with the fires of Heaven.

Flaws:

Curiosity: Izuriel has to know.  She is like Pandora, even if you told her the contents, she would have to see for herself.

Desire: A former Angel of Love, she can no longer feel the purity of the highest emotion in the world.  She can only feel an inkling of her past through Desire.  She seeks comfort where she can but don’t think she is an angelic whore, she just has a problem.  It can be Desire for material things or touch, she craves it.

Insanity: Trapped in a star for over a hundred years can do wonders to your mind and hers was near breaking if an Angel could break like that.  Fits of rage and sudden changes in her plans, makes her unpredictable.

Woohooo!  Double posted!
I am working on it, I swear!

minerva7790

I have interest in that second Archangel job. But, of course, that depends on Kirinis! For now, I'll post as a Cherub. But ehh, let me know if the position is open for application? ;) And I hope this is good for the RP!

Name: Tiffania
Age: A woman's age is secret. But of course, angels are ageless.
Faction: Angel
Angelic/Demonic Status: Cherub
Appearance:

Tired of her peers wearing white all the time, Tiffania began to wear black, to differentiate herself from the rest of heaven. Soon after, however, she got addicted to to it. It matches well with her black hair anyway.
Personality: For an angel, Tiffania is surprisingly down-to-earth: something she assumes she had not lost even after death. All her years of existence manipulating the truth to the Nephilim have only served to improve her wit and sarcasm. But despite all these things that Tiffania holds on to in order to set herself apart from the other angels, she is compassionate and pure of heart, just like her peers. It isn't something she flaunts at will, but she supposes that she does need to have some good in her that qualifies her as an angel. No matter how contrary she would like to be, however, Tiffania is unquestioningly loyal to her faction, and to Izuriel, whom she looks up to.
Biography: Tiffania was born as shy little girl. She consciously worked to keep herself out of trouble throughout her twenty years of life. She never disobeyed her parents, never drank, never skipped classes... That did not stop the car accident from happening, however. Tiffania died an untimely death at age twenty, still a virgin, and was transformed into a Nephilim. Because she had been so used to being good, it wasn't long before she ascended to the ranks of the angels. But the longer Tiffania spent in the afterlife, the longer she desired to change things, beginning with her clothing, and then her personality. She knows that being contrary to her peers is dangerous, and going too far might earn her mana points. She is thus careful to keep within boundaries.
Grace/Wickedness:
Calming the storm. Tiffania plays her flute to soothe distraught emotions and minds in turmoil. Her melody can put crying babies to a sweet sleep, and, if she plays long enough, cause enemies to forget their feud and become friends. Once she stops playing, however, if the cause of the 'storm' persists, the effects of her melody will eventually be cancelled out again.
Flaws: (Any weaknesses or desires. 3 minimum, 5 maximum.)
Living on the edge. Tiffania is tired of the clean life she has lived on earth. Having discovered first-hand that being 'good' seldom reaps any rewards, Tiffania likes to test the boundaries. This, of course, puts her in danger of earning Mana. It is not that Tiffania has the desire to be evil, but that she is curious to know a life outside the mundane normalcy of angels.
Guilty conscience. As a consequence to her desire to 'live on the edge', Tiffania is often guilt-ridden. She knows that this curiousity will one day be the end of her -- literally. As aforementioned, she is totally loyal to her faction and to her mistress, and does not wish to do anything that would earn her disapproval. She supposes this guilt means that she isn't fit to be wild and rebellious, as demons are, and it soothes her somewhat that she is still accepted as an angel. Still, this internal struggle continues to rage day after day within her, much to her dismay.
Easily bored. Having lived long in the afterlife, there is little left to do in heaven that can entertain her. As such, Tiffania often spends her time observing the lives of mortals and of the Nephilim, exposing herself to all their vices. Every now and then, she gets ever so tempted to intervene and change things around using her power, even though she knows she shouldn't.
Blind trust. Tiffania's trust in her mistress, Izuriel, is unwavering. She probably knows that the Seraphim is not infallible, just like all other angels. But if she does, she chooses to ignore it. Lady Izuriel is, after all, someone she holds in the highest regard.
Mana: () () () () [Mana apply to Cherubs/Infernals only. Basically, if a Cherub commits an act of evil or vice versa, they will receive a mark of Mana. Upon reaching three, they will receive a visit from the Arch Angel/Demon with a warning. When committing four, the Prince/Seraphim will personally visit to put an end to them.]

Ons and Offs ~ Absences and Apologies

Remiel

Moreover Azâzêl  taught men to make swords, knives, shields, breastplates, the fabrication of mirrors, and the workmanship of bracelets and ornaments, the use of paint, the beautifying of the eyebrows, the use of stones of every valuable and select kind, and all sorts of dyes, so that the world became altered...

...Again the Lord said to Raphael, Bind Azâzêl hand and foot; cast him into darkness; and opening the desert which is in Dudael, cast him in there.  Throw upon him hurled and pointed stones, covering him with darkness; there shall he remain for ever; cover his face, that he may not see the light.  And in the great day of judgment let him be cast into the fire.

--Book of Enoch, 8:1, 10:6-9

Name: Azâzêl the Fallen.  Of course, these days he prefers to go by Nick Ramirez.

Age: As old as Creation.

Faction: Demonic

Angelic/Demonic Status: Prince of Hell, and one of Lucifer Morningstar's top lieutenants.  He commands the demonic agents in Purgatory.

Appearance: Azâzêl is without form, taking whichever shape strikes his fancy at the time.  Lately, however, he seems to have an affectation for a simple male human, dark-haired, tanned of skin, whose arms and chest are covered by tattoos described in the Talmud and Book of Enoch.

Personality: Those who don't know him would have a hard time believing him to be a demon, let alone one of the Princes of Hell.  On the surface, he appears to be eccentric and mild-mannered, rarely seen outside the confines of his nightclub / base of operations B.L.Z. Bubb's.  He prefers to remain aloof, letting his arch demons do his dirty work.  He knows where they are at all times, however, and will appear to bail them out if necessary should one of them find themselves in dire straits.

Biography:  One of the two hundred angels punished by God for their romantic and sexual relationships with human women,  Azâzêl went a step further, teaching mankind the art of engineering, trade and toolcraft...and the arts of war.  He is widely credited with introducing the Seven Deadly Sins upon the human race, especially vanity, greed, lust, and wroth; and his punishment is described in detail, with only the leader of the Watchers, Sêmîazâz (or Samyaza) having a worse fate.

Seeing potential in him, Lucifer appointed Azazel in charge of the lost land of Gilead, or Purgatory, to recruit and tempt those souls who, for whatever reason, had died without choosing a side.  With a few hand-picked Fallen, Azâzêl's goal is to claim as many Nephilim as he can for his lord and Master.

Powers:

Illusion.  Azazel is the master of illusions, and can take whatever form he wishes, any time he wishes.  He can appear male or female, angelic or demonic or human.  He can make his form monstrous and terrible; he can appear as an innocent child.  Only those high in the angelic hierarchy can see through these illusions.

Omnipresence.  Azazel can appear anywhere in Gilead, at any time.  It is not uncommon for reports of simultaneous sightings in different places.  Due to his extensive spy network, he also seems to possess an almost uncanny knowledge of the goings-on in his city.

Compulsion.  Though he cannot make a Nephilim commit a sin against his will (there are rules, after all, and even Azazel must play the great Game), if necessary, or perhaps if it just tickles his fancy, he may seize control of any Nephilim, angel, or demon (any NPC in game terms) and force them to do his bidding.  This Compulsion may be broken only by angelic or divine intervention.

Flaws:

Weakness to Divine.  Just as Lucifer has no power in Yahweh's presence, so Azazel cannot go toe-to-toe with his opposite Angelic number.  Good will always prevail over evil, and he has no chance in direct confrontation.  His best tactics are guerrilla strikes, deception, and misdirection.

Creature of Habit. Azazel has been doing this a long, long time, and that kind of boredom will make anyone lose his edge.  Over the years, he has become fascinated by humanity and its habits: who are these creatures, these favored of the Most High? What makes them do the things they do?  His intense curiosity has caused him to adopt many of their habits, to the point where he is not as fearsome as he once was.

Ahh, I hadn't realized that his ability would go hand in hand with the contract but I suppose I should have guessed. I think that would work then since he wouldn't be able to use it until a certain amount of limiters have been removed.

Do love the character though, very dark - just like the idea of the game really. Though I suppose this would be a good time to once again remind everyone that the game WILL be taking place in the Extreme section of the forum. Thus, not for those who are easily queasy and uncomfortable with gory and violent scenes.

Anyway...-stamps Drake's forehead with her approval-

minerva7790, I think Kirinis is in the process of editing his character but we will see what happens. =) For now, I would say that your Cherub looks good. Definitely a nice balance of showing how 'angels' are still 'human' or Nephilim in this case. Just wanted to note that Infernals/Cherubs may not necessarily know (in character) if they have gained a Mana point or not, and how close they are to four. Sort of like how the Nephilim don't know the exact amount of their humanity and which way it's going. Characters may be aware that they have done so and so but will find out for certain where exactly they are when an event occurs to inform them of it. Such as the Arch Angels visiting with a warning for three Mana points.

Esoteric Myobi

Name: Goes by the alias of 'Taya'
Age: Appears to be in her early twenties
v Sketch done by my close friend jadestinger v
Faction: Neutral
Angelic/Demonic Status: Neither, she holds her own status as Iurus Formator aka Oath Maker

Appearance: It is hard to ascertain whether Taya's hair is sea-green with black highlights or the other way around. Strands soft as silk, her hair is slightly wavy and reaches just below her shoulders. Her hairstyle seems to always be changing, almost as if she can't decide how she likes it and is forever experimenting. Her features are fair and delicate, with pale skin and large gray eyes, her lips are full and slightly pouting.

Taya is usually seen wearing a light grey suede jacket with a black cropped top underneath, soft leather gloves adorn both of her hands. A simple pair of jean shorts with a dark grey belt is finished with a pair of black thigh high stockings and knee high boots. At a height of five feet, the heels tend to add a gratuitous few inches to her short frame. Around her neck, a pendant the same color of her hair is always seen. While her clothing may change from time to time, the pendant will always hang from its silver chain. Patterned with a swirl around the thin cylinder, the bottom is engraved with a trio of circles.

When using any of her abilities, Taya's appearance changes slightly. Sea-green hair bleaches to a silver-white, shoulder length strands lengthening dramatically as it reaches down her back in soft waves, stopping just below waist length. Grey eyes slowly glow to a pupil-less light green.

Personality: Always with a ready smile on her lips, at first glance Taya may come off as pleasant, bubbly, and perhaps even a bit childish at times. She wears this outer persona like a glove, and seems to have plenty more hidden away. When not 'working', she tends to be brooding somewhere or staring listlessly at the dreary landscape. All liveliness that she usually displays gone, replaced by an apathetic individual just waiting for the time to pass.

Biography: It is said that as long as there has been a Prince and Seraphim standing on opposing sides in Purgatory, so there has been an Iurus Formator. There are stories that say the Oath Maker stood in between the two factions, hindering them. Other versions claim that there had been times when the Oath Maker had sided with one or the other. Stories such as these are rampant as many continue to speculate of just what exactly the Oath Maker's motives are - if there are any at all.

All that is truly known, is that the Oath Maker will grant wishes and requests of any kind. However, the price is steep and many never truly find happiness or satisfaction in the results of the completed transaction. The other fact known is more of an assumption, the idea that the Oath Maker serves as a judge of sorts. An eternal spectator to the struggles within Purgatory, the Oath Maker seems to know when one is about to Rise or Fall, know when one's life is near its end, know when a soul is about to be wiped out forever...

(Known only to Taya herself) Oath Makers come and go with time though there is only ever one at a time. Taya knows nothing about the previous Iurus Formator save for the fact that they held the same position, the same job, the same ability of granting a wish or request. But why? She doesn't know.

Through the years she has spent in Purgatory, slowly she has begun to unravel a few mysteries of her own. When the previous Oath Maker had passed on, she had been chosen from the plethora of new souls entering Purgatory. Souls that had never been given a chance at life, souls whose lives had been cut short, souls with a strong will to live and survive. The soul of an aborted baby, Taya opened her eyes for the first time in her life and was greeted by the grey skies of Purgatory. She has never known childhood, having woken up as she is now - fully grown into womanhood.

She knew things that she could not have known and eventually settled on the vague assumption that these thoughts and abilities had been passed down to her from the previous Iurus Formator. The only thing she did not know was how her predecessor had managed to escape the eternal cycle of Purgatory.

Abilities:

Iurus Formator - Given the role of the Oath Maker, Taya has abilities unique only to herself.

• Seal of Wishes: For the right price, Taya will grant a wish or request that is brought to her. This may vary from taking years (life), an ability, or an offer that will pay in 'equal' price the request she is granting. When sealing a deal, Archon is used as a mark of the contract.
• Eye of Antithesis: Able to see how much life a Nephilim has left to offer. Also able to see the amount of, or lack of, humanity a Nephilim possesses. If any Cherubs or Infernals have racked up any Mana against themselves, she is also able to see just how close they are to an ultimate death at the hands of their leaders.
• Omnipresent: Just as how the Seraphim and Prince are omnipresent, it is not uncommon to have sightings of the Oath Maker in various locations at the same time.

Major Ability -
• Aura of Aversion: With the use of this ability, those who mean harm to Taya will find themselves losing the will and desire to do so. If one were to concentrate very hard, or if the desire to kill is that strong, then they will find it extremely difficult to follow through on the actions but it certainly is not impossible.

Minor Ability - Archon. The pendant she always wears is the 'stamp' that is used to seal a contract. When used, she stamps the bottom of the pendant and brands a mark (trio of circles, as shown in our game icon). The mark must be placed on bare skin, though it quickly fades after the initial burn causing some to wonder if the event had truly occurred.
• Besides being the stamp used for Seal of Wishes, Archon also has a secondary ability of being able to extend into a staff. Occasionally, an extended blade of energy may be formed at the end and thus the staff is similar to that of a scythe. However, while the staff itself may be used in combat if needed, the scythe does no physical harm to others. Archon's scythe is only effective in taking away life/ability/etc that had been offered in return for the granted wish.

Flaws:

Seal of Wishes - While Taya is able to grant the wishes and requests of others, she is unable to do so for herself.

Vulnerability - Besides Archon's staff, Taya is quite literally physically vulnerable. She does not possess any combat abilities to boot and thus can only rely on the fact that she is the only one who can grant any request (for a price) or hope that her Aura of Aversion is enough to keep danger away.

Envy - Having been denied the joys of life, Taya resents the fact that the only world she has ever known is merely a shadow of the reality. She is jealous of the Nephilim and even the Cherubs and Infernals who had once lived and died on Earth.

Curiousity - Despite her envy of those who had once enjoyed life on Earth, Taya is overcome with curiosity about Earth, its lifestyle, and its residents. She wants to know everything about them, wants to understand every aspect of it, though many times this just leads to her envying their good fortune yet again as she wishes and dreams of living a life that many categorize as 'mundane' at best.

Neutrality - Due to her position between the factions, Taya finds herself walking a thin line at all times as she attempts to stay on the sidelines of the brewing battles. While she herself is neither 'good' nor 'evil', there are times when she finds herself a target of either side when labeled a hindrance. All in all, she is powerful and dangerous in her own way and while some may want to sway her, there will always be others who would rather destroy her.

Profile may be edited from time to time as I flesh her out more. But for now this should do.

Here's Saziel, Electric Boogaloo Edition with 100% less pronoun trouble.

Name: Saziel

Age: Unknown

Faction: Angel

Angelic/Demonic Status: Archangel

Appearance: An androgyne always garbed from neck to toe completely in loose clothing betraying not a cue that might give indication of what Saziel's true gender affiliation.  As for speech, Saziel has yet to utter a word, letting their silent presence and a sort of readable body language serve as a effective substitute.  In general Saziel's demeanor and the tone of "voice" implies that Saziel gravitates towards a masculine identity.

Personality: Some may be glib about just what Saziel represents as one of the two Hands of the Lady but such glibness cannot deny what he is.  Hope springs eternal and endures all trials and such is the way of Saziel.  Despite the impartial mien that Saziel presents in the line of duty, he believes firmly in the inherent good nature of humanity and will do much to cultivate and encourage it in them.

As such, he believes that all should given a chance to redeem themselves regardless of their standing.  Rendering final judgment against a target is an tragedy but sacrifices must be made for the greater good.  Saziel is frequently rebuked by his fellow Hand for his laxity in dealing with Demons.  He believes that because of their once human nature they still can be turned away from the Prince instead of being destroyed for what they are now.

Biography: The unresting and immutable hand of the Lady, Saziel is renowned for his persistence and inexorability in carrying out her wishes.  The secret to his behind his persistence is the endless wellspring of hope that fuels his body and spirit to persist until the last human soul has been turned.  His time occasionally in the world has only reinforced his belief that all people are inherently good.

Grace/Wickedness:

Major Ability: Indomitable Form: In the course of his duty, Saziel will persist to ensure the Lady's will is carried out.  As such she can withstand an enormous deal of physical damage that would slay any one lesser and rapidly heal if given a chance.  However even one such as Saziel can be slain but death is merely something that postpones judgment.  If slain, Saziel recorporealizes within a fortnight to continue his duty.

Minor Ability: Iron-Clad Temperance: As part of Saziel's nature, he is immune to all matters of persuasion short of a direct order by the Seraphim that contravene its orders or directives.  Saziel cannot be dissuaded or distracted from its holy imperatives.

Flaws:

Eternal Optimist: Saziel cannot conceive of betrayal, it is simply not within his nature.  Any violation of his trust is construed as merely an occurrence caused by a temporary defect as human nature is capable of occasionally erring.  As a consequence he will often stay his hand in final judgment if not explicitly ordered by her Lady.  Likewise he is trusting of anyone who claims to have turned a leaf no matter how valid or invalid their claim may be.

Interventionalist:  It is a poorly held secret that Saziel has a soft spot for humanity and he cannot reject a plead from anyone who asks of him to do something.  Former humans such as Cherubs and Infernals are allowed only one such request for despite their inhuman nature, he will not refuse their human soul one final request.  However the orders of his Lady take primary priority.

So Say The Lady: Unknown to Saziel although in his heart he suspects it to be true, the Lady Seraphim has absolute dominion over him.  If the Lady so wills Saziel to die, Saziel will automatically be struck down no matter how far he may be away from the Lady.  The resurrection ability of Indomitable Form will not protect him as he cannot refuse an order from the Lady and she will not return.

Terminal Sanction: An curious defect in Saziel's Temperance, as long as he carrying out his Lady's direct will his personality completely changes.  His heart becomes hard as flint and he will refuse to help any other in need of his assistance if it is not related to his Lady's order or a request from one human soul.

Jago

Name:  Clemenza Amichevole
Age:  72
Preferred Faction:  Angel

Appearance:  Father Clemenza Amichevole is a large, solid man.  He is hearty, robust, and slightly rotund.  He is built like a linebacker and has the appetite to match.  His eyes are creased with crow's feet from his signature smile and infectious laughter.  He is a good-natured, jovial caricature of life's optimistic indulgence.

Personality:  Clemenza is Italian.  He his kind-hearted, good-natured, and convivial.  He is a gregarious extrovert who, in life, was both respected father-figure and role-model.  Admittedly, he was a gourmand and tempered his appetites with moderation.  Lent, as you can imagine, was particularly difficult.  Father Amichevole was devoted though not necessarily devout.  He believed in the inherent goodness of the human-spirit.  When the designs of the church were aligned with and attuned to the people then so too was Clemenza.  When the designs of the church diverged then so too did Clemenza.  The upturned corners of his mouth were permanently creased in an all-enveloping smile that could disarm even the most hardened criminal.  Optimistic, cheerful, staunch, proud, jovial, and kind are words that describe this man well.

Biography:  Clemenza Amichevole was born in Catania in 1948 on a small farm to a provincial farmer and his Sicilian wife.  His father, Paulo, had renounced the city-life and fled to the country, to Sicily, to make his name on the peace of olive branches.  Clemenza was schooled in town before leaving home at seventeen for Palermo.  He attended college and earned a degree in Philosophy before setting out for Tripoli.  He spent a few years at a mission there, then ventured deeper into northern Africa.  He ended up settling in Sardinia and attending seminary college.  When he graduated there he headed back to Tunis and traveled the Mediterranean coast of Africa.  Always a loner, Father Clemenza was at home on the road and in foreign places.  It was then, during his travels, that he felt his energies were truly being put to good use.  He helped bring education, medicine, and religion to people whose governments allowed them to starve, ail, and stagnate.  The rewards were more than worth the risks.

Clemenza never felt the need to settle down.  He never had the urge to put down roots, to ground himself with a permanent flock and congregation, or to stop traveling.  Seeing the world was a reward in and of itself.  He traveled through the baltics, the northern wastelands of Russia, Siberia, Mongolia, Manchuria, and eventually found himself on the Western coast of the Pacific Ocean.  He made his way south through Formosa, Macau, Singapore, Phuket, Bangkok, Jakarta, and fell in love with Manila harbor.  He stayed in the Philipines for a few years while making forays into the South Pacific and island hopping with the locals.  The reverberations of war resounded in the hearts and minds of people everywhere.

Father Clemenza Amichevole met his untimely demise in a small, grass hut in a remote village on an unnamed island.  Its aborigines had never known clothing let alone penicillin.  He had unwittingly stepped on a broken bamboo chute.  After three days of fever and infection he left this world behind.  With no family to speak of, no living relatives, or even any remnants of his passing save for a bible, a cross, a soiled brown robe, and a fertilized zygote.

Abilities:

Time...it's on my side - Clemenza doesn't age normally.  As opposed to growing older in Purgatory, as time elapses, he actually gets younger.  Spending extended periods of time with the joyous soul can actually slow the aging process.  Although the aging will never stop altogether the effects are both tangible and noticeable.

Life of the party - His joie de vivre and zest for life define his character.  His fun-loving nature is infectious and anyone in his company will soon find himself adopting and embracing the same excitement and happiness.  Anyone who shares in the mirth and merriment will undoubtedly find it difficult to leave behind.

Flaws:

Know when to say "when" - A good time is just too good to pass up.  Clemenza has difficulty with moderation.  He has an incredible constitution so indulging in food and drink do little to slow him down but he can also lack restraint when exerting himself to the brink of exhaustion.

Too good to be...untrue? - His benevolent nature is often blind and naive.  Clemenza might be criticized for his occasional inability to see the forest between the trees.  Seeing hidden motivations, sensing the true nature of a situation or a person, and getting a good-read on the outcomes of his or others' actions can be very difficult.

...it does a body good! - If it feels good, tastes good, smells good, etc. then Clemenza will do it, try it, eat it, and likely indulge in it.  Excessively.  His pleasures are of the physical variety and he has a particular weakness resisting temptation.  Nothing is off-limits.  His curiosity is as insatiable as his appetites.

Truth be told - Clemenza's conscience is terribly honest.  He is quite literally unable to lie, cheat, steal, or subversively hide his motives or otherwise guard himself.

Remiel

Hey guys! Great posts so far, everyone!  ;D

I just wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that Divine Misdemeanours (or at least my vision of it) isn't about the angels and the demons so much it's about the humans.

That's right, you heard me.  It's about the humans (or Nephilim, as Myobi and Kitsune call them). It's not about who has more power than who, or which archangel or demon lord is the most badass.  That's not the point of the setting.  The point of the setting is that, whatever else it is, Gilead is a city, with people more or less going about their lives as best they can.  Yes, there are agents of darkness and the Divine there, and yes, they're given a bit more free reign to do what they wish than they would otherwise have had on Earth, but that doesn't mean they get to blow up city blocks and slaughter everyone they come in contact with.

There are rules in Gilead, and even the Prince and the Seraph have to follow them.  One of these rules is that they cannot force or compel any Nephilim to do anything they do not want to.  They can tempt, yes; they can use guilt, or shame, or appeal to someone's greed or lust or whatever, but they can't just show up, all guns blazing.  After all, if a mortal dies without going to one side or the other, they'll just show up again the next day.  Pointless.

Similarly, if you draw too much attention to yourself, if you make too much noise, you're going to attract the attention of the Powers That Be, and that's probably not going to end well for you.

DM is supposed to be a human story, a story about humans--why are we what we are? What drives us?  How much would we sacrifice to save those we love?  How far would we go to get what we want?  What, ultimately, is our soul worth?

The humans in DM are the stars of the show.  The demons and the angels are just background players.  I'd like everyone to keep that in mind.

Thank you.
Remiel, co-GM

Absolutely agreed.  Part of the reason I took the arch angel position because I didn't WANT to be a star player in this.  Just remember boys and girls, eat your vegetables and save your souls or Vorianne will be paying you a visit :P
