Eternal Blade

Where are we?(Setting)
Along the eastern coast, there are no kingdoms, but rather a plethora of near countless of city states. Many change names too often to remember, while other have held the same name for several generation, and still others rise and fall like the wind. The eastern lands are jagged forest filled mountains and hills, along a pristine coast that’s ripe with lawlessness. Barbarians rule the land, and pirates rule the seas. The only beacons’ of hope for civilization in this land are the city states themselves, and alas, they are more interested in feuding over slights long forgotten or warring for land they don't need and can't keep.

What is our situation?(Plot)
Our story begins as our heroes are waking from an encounter they aren’t likely to forget. On their way back from Blackthorn Isle, they were besieged by a sorcerer who had flown out from the mainland and within seconds had sunk the ship. As they wake on a black sand beach near jagged rocks, they realize they no longer possess the gem they had been asked to retrieve from the forsaken island by a priest of Sarenrae, and no doubt images of the dark robed mage from the night before cross their minds.

Why does this game have the same title as another game I've seen?
Now hopefully that got your attention. This is a side game for Black Howling’s ‘Tales of Might and Magic’ which will be specific to heroes, that is goodly characters. This game will take place on same continent, in the same setting as the game he is running, but in a different region of that continent. I am a much different GM than BH, so you’ll have to deal with it. I also don’t have a lot of experience with running RPG’s online, so if you wish to participate, you’ll have to deal with that as well.

What’s allowed in?
Core Content: All core content is allowed, that is to say that everything from the core or primary book of Pathfinder is allowed in.

APG(Advanced Players Guide) Only certain content from this book is allowed in, and only with My approval, which means you have to ask first, and there is the possibility that I will refuse. Primary among the content I may allow is: Alternate Racial Features, Alternate Class Features, Class Archetypes, and some of the APG’s classes.

No other content is allowed. I’ll not repeat this again.”

What’s Required to get into the game?
Submit a character Sheet: I’ll require a fully filled out and public CS from Plot Hooks, before even considering your character.

Submit a Back Story: I’ll also require you to submit a back story of about 1-5 paragraphs(Paragraphs being about 3-6 sentences). Length does not necessarily impress me, I’d prefer a good detailed back story over one that has a bunch of useless detail about how many ladies of the night your character has been with.

Wait: Yes, wait. I’ll chose from the character that I like the best, and I think will work the best. Party cohesion matters a great deal to me, so make a character that can work well with a group.

What are you looking for in a group?
Melee Combatant: This is the backbone of a party, so it deserves placing at the top. A good melee combatant should have maneuvers that can control the front line of combat, should have a high to near unassailable AC(Armor Class), and should be able to deal damage enough to pose a serious threat to the parties enemies.

Examples: Fighter, Barbarian, and Paladin.

Party Support: If the Melee combatant is the backbone of a group, this is the muscles that hold bone in place. A good support character should be able to heal the party up, and should be able to buff the party(either for offense or defense, but preferably both).

Examples: Cleric, Bard, and Druid.

Specialist Skills: This is the character that gets the group by when magic and might have failed. A good Specialist Character should be able to scout, deal respectable damage to the parties enemies, and to generally be able to get past obstacles that the rest of the group finds themselves lacking for.

Examples: Rogue, Ranger, and Bard.

Magic/Artillery: The group is bound to need some artillery support, and mages do that better than anyone else(usually). A mage should be able to do many other things besides send out slaying spells. They should be able to figure out what’s magical and what’s not, they should be capable of pulling off that spell that saves the party time or resources, on top of flaying the parties enemies with slaying spells.

Exapmples: Wizard, and Sorcerer

Wild Card: This is one of the trickier roles to fill due in part to the fact that they often lack a focus. Wild Card character should be able to fill the gaps in the party, that is to make sure that a parties weak spots do not come to haunt them if possible. They should also be capable of filling in for other characters if the need arises.

Examples: Bard, Ranger, and Druid.

I’m only accepting 5 characters for this campaign.

How do I build my character for this game?
Point Buy: You have a 35 point buy to work with. I find that this point buy gives you more than enough to make a highly effective character, but still doesn’t allow a character to just do everything.

Starting Level: I’m starting the characters at 5th level. This gives them one ability increase, and three feats, along with whatever their class/race grants.

Starting Gold: I’m starting you guys with 21,000 gold pieces to work with. This is a lot of gold for your level, but don’t for a second think you won’t need it.

Starting Health Points: Your first HD(hit dice)is maxed, every level thereafter is half HD+2.

Example: A character with a D8 HD, and a constitution of 14(+2 modifier), would have a total of 42 hit points at 5th level before counting in any gained from favored class bonus.

Transparency: : Make sure I can see what level you got which feat and from what source, and where your favored class bonus went. It takes you maybe 15 minutes longer if you’re being slow, and saves me 20 minutes per every character sheet I read.

I am interested, in particular looking at the direction of the magic / artillery build, possibly making it a mage that is capable of working as a 'booster' for the melee combatant though.

Anyhow, you have my interest, if I'm allowed to take notice of this opportunity.
I've taken the Oath of The Drake. Remind me of it if you think I act against it.

Well of you have my interest, of course. I'm working right now on Melee role. Human Barbarian, you know the basic concept as I've already thrown it at you. I'll have him up soonish, hopefully.

Question: Would the invulnerable Rager archetype and Guarded life Rage power be cool?

Working ahead, trying to note down things as they come up in my mind, fairly far on already, but a question if I might.

On Wizards & Learning New Spells...

Do you require a wizard that wants to start with more spells known to buy the scrolls and then pay the cost of writing them into a spellbook at the start, or is it permissionable to assume the spells are learned from a master / other wizard willing to teach them?

The Core Book gives the option of wizards copying spells from other wizards spellbooks, usually at a fee, but this costs noticeably less than scrolls.
To compare:

Spell Level || Scrolls    || Copying from another Wizard's Spellbook
0                || 12g 5s   || 2 gp 5 sp
1                || 25g        || 5 gp
2                || 150g      || 20 gp
3                || 375g      || 45 gp
4                || 700g      || 80 gp
5                || 1,125g   || 125 gp
6                || 1,650g   || 180 gp
7                || 2,275g   || 245 gp
8                || 3,000g   || 320 gp
9                || 3,825g   || 405 gp

In addition, whether its a scroll or copying fee from another wizard's spellbook, the actual process of writing a new spell still costs double the fee for writing it. (Or rather, the book lists that copying fee is 50% of the spell's writing costs, in general) Orisons: 5 gp, 1st: 10 gp, 2nd: 40 gp, 3rd: 90 gp, 4th: 160 gp, 5th: 250 gp, 6th: 360 gp, 7th: 490 gp, 8th: 640 gp, 9th: 810 gp.

*Ahem*

Sorry, just wanted to ask now, because I am thinking of buying extra spells, and would prefer to know which of the 2 you prefer a player using, if the copying fee 'cheaper path' is only available for certain spells in certain situations and its 'learning through bought scrolls' otherwise, or if the option is present at character generation.

I would assume your character has been traveling for some time, and is no doubt a part of the wizard community. The idea that wizards allow other wizards to copy spells from their spell books in the first place, is that their is a certain bond of sorts between wizards. They all want to have the privilege to know what others of their skills have come up with, and so they stick together to a certain extent. So, yes, I would allow you to say you've copied from other wizards spell books.

That would have you at the cost of writing, plus the cost of that wizards charge for the privilege to copy. So a 0 level spell would cost a grand total of 7 gold 5 silver, and a 3rd level spell would cost a total 135 gold. Keep in mind that I would require you to be capable of making the spellcraft checks on a role of a 10, in order to even have this option(it shouldn't be hard for a wizard).

Sorry if my wording was hard to understand or if my math was off at all, I'm getting pretty tired at this point.

Kreios Argaron
5th Level Human Barbarian

Kreios was born in a small village off the eastern border of the Galtean Empire. His early years there were peaceful, which was saying a a lot since the boy would grow to know a life of chaos. When he was only 10 years old a band of mercenaries looking for quick cash swarmed their village, taking him and many of the others as slaves. Seen as a good specimen for the already great strength he showed for a boy his age, he was sold to a Galtean mining plantation. There they put the boy to work with three other slaves pushing a large crank that pumped a special fluid used in alchemy from the ground. By the time he was thirteen the other three slaves had died, and he was able to push the crank by himself.

Kreios was one of the strongest slaves in the camp, and he often found himself needing to fight the others in order to get certain things like food or clothing. Through it all though, the cruelty he watched only instilled within him a hate for ordered law and a want to keep things such as this from happening. This tempered, and he quickly grew harder and harder for the guards to control. At age 15 he kept under chain most of the time. Though he kept aiding others when he could, insisting that they would need to band together in the face of the treachery they faced. By the time he was nearing age seventeen he had earned the trust of many of the slaves, and was seen by the Galtean guards as a growing problem.

Things changed Shortly after Kreios turned 17 though, when he witnessed one of the guards trying to rape a paid servant. He tried to stop the man, but when the guard drew his sword on Kreios, the boy snapped. He went into a blind fury, somehow wresting the blade from the man's grip, and impaling the guard with his own sword. He quickly took the blade after that, and cut the chains that held him to his working place. He escaped from the slave camp then, killing several more guards and freeing as many of the other slaves as he could. From there he took off, seeking to find solace elsewhere in the land.

Unfortunately Kreios found he was an outlaw in the country now, and no matter where he ran in the empire the Guards tended to find him. After two years straight of making his way by the sword, and getting hunted for both his crimes and the lack of a mercenaries charter; he finally left. He traveled eastwards, toward the coast where he was sure his crimes wouldn't follow him. There he started on the path of adventure, hating the slur barbarian that was tagged upon him do to his ferocious fighting style. Eventually he met with a group of others, and has since traveled alongside them. Though something deep inside him burns for a chance at revenge against Galtea. For what they did him; and more importantly what they do to their people on a daily basis.

Faedra, Crimson Wizard
Large Portrait

Description
Faedra is a fairly young elven woman, mere 125 years of age, and for an elf, she's out of her teens but just starting her way to the challenges of life. Her hair is golden blonde, her eyes are the shade of roasted hazelnut, and her lips are like fine coral, often raised in a small smirk. She wears a long robe hiding her form for most part, but this is mainly what she feels comfortable in. Fashioned to appear more like a simple dress, she might not seem like anything but a travelling scribe if not for a few details that stand out.

Her eyes have a fierce, intelligent look about them. There's an aura of magic about her, a sustained magical essence waiting to be brought forth. There's a pair of rings in her hands, and a necklace usually slipped around her neck but its end resting at the start of her cleavage, hidden away under the cloth but visible to a careful observer. High on her brow a small headband tries to vanish beneath her hair, sharpening her mind a little more making her a touch more dangerous foe to face.

Faedra adopted a nickname 'Crimson Wizard' in the past for enjoying little spells, prestidigitation to amuse children and common folk for a bit now and then, and try and ease them to feel comfortable around magic. She is a kind person at heart, but she is also able to harden herself to the point that a 'necessary evil' does not stand as something too cruel to do, if it can save lives.

She is refined and courteous, when she wants to be, but she's no diplomat and she is certainly not a very adept liar either. She is a little more of a recluse at times, studying magic with the interest of someone who is truely enchanted by it. One of the best ways to win her favor is to present her with scrolls of spells she does not yet know by heart, for her to study and include to her growing collection of spellbooks.

History:
Faedra was born to a pair of wizards, and received training in magic from an early age. She was often found admiring her mother's jewelry, and particularily how it was made. She took up learning to fashion little things, craft them with her spare time and little allowance, surprising her parents early on with the creation of little magical 'toys' that lasted a little while only, but it still showed she had the gift.

She was giving training on how to create jewelry, how to make accurate sculptures, and how to craft weapons and armor, should the need ever arise. Her parents took up educating her about magic, and about enchanting things by giving items some magic that lingered, and how to bind that magic within the object.

Though she had enjoyed a safe, happy life so far, she felt the road was calling because there was a limit how much she could learn at home. Little adventures gathered her a bit of coin and she was always happy to share theory with other mages that she came across, often trying to trade knowledge of particularily interesting spells. Little by little, it became more than a hobby, and more of a pursuit.

She began to take some more risks to acquire rare spells, but as the risks increased, so did the too-close-encounters with serious injury or even death. That thought in mind, she sought for people that she could trust to protect her back, and who she would be willing to protect and aid in return. With her study of crafting magic items, she hoped to be able to convince people of her usefulness, at least eventually when her power was strong enough, and to have a way to acquire those spells still eluding her.

Lady Lunarius

Born on the streets of a nameless city-state, Celestia grew to know more hardships than any child really should ever learn. For much of her growing years she fought for her food, stole what she could from vendors, steal from the rich and with the other kids around her she learned the best houses that held the best food and coin to spend. She and several of the other nameless children who'd grown on the streets would spend their days following these rich around, stealing from their pockets, begging for money. That is, until she was caught.

She'd been waving through crowds slipping in and out of their pockets, her own growing heavy as theirs grew lighter. They were all entranced by the performance before them, never knowing the entire thing was a set up. The music that filled the air, and the soft gasps from the crowd was enough that Celest believed the crowd would never notice. Never once did they think their gasps were one of shock as the girl before them tripped. It was cold, to this day she remembers it was cold, and windy, and her hand was still in the pocket of a nobleman's jacket, her fingers wrapped around his coin pouch when he grabbed her wrist.

The struggle began there, with the crowd giving the two room to wrestle, him trying to subdue her, and she, fighting to get away. Suddenly the man released his grip, and stared down at Celestia in shock, no, in pain. As he slumped over, gasping out she noticed the dagger sticking from his spine and her name echoed in the air, not her true name, but her street name. Tearing her eyes from the man she noticed the fear in her friends eyes and began to ran. Quickly her friend had caught up, and they ran side by side, hand in hand through the streets as people screamed and guards chased.

Sincerely scared, she didn't stop running, even as her friends grip slipped from hers and the promise of meeting at their little cubby of a home was shouted into the air. It was minutes, or perhaps hours later that Celestia thought it safe enough to slip "home" but when she got there, no one was inside. The dark, dank cubby in the city wall was empty, so she waited, and waited. For two days she waited, not leaving the safety of her shelter until word came from one of the other beggars. Her friend was gone, taken from the city to serve the family of the one she'd killed.

Blaming herself, Celestia set out, determined to make amends on her friend behalf by working with the church, doing odd jobs where her "skills" were needed. All the while keeping an ear to the ground, listening for anything that would tell of where she might find her friend. Honing her skills, waiting for the day she can at least repay her and her debt.

Quote from: Lady Lunarius on June 22, 2011, 05:48:22 PM

((Lemme know if I need to edit anything.))
You need to list what strength bonus your composite bow has on the weapon notes(special properties), and you need to bring down your amulet of natural armor from a +2 to a +1.

I'll get to everyone else in just a moment.

This looks awesome, I would love to throw my hat into this ring. If your looking for a Wild card I would adore rolling up an Alchemist, Nothing like explosions to add a bit of spice to life. This is of course with your approval of such a class. If not I can replace it with a Druid.
After taking time to look over the Alchemist, I'll go ahead and let it in. It's unlike anything I've ran for before, so it requires me to read about it more in depth. If a wild card class comes along that's more familiar to me, I may chose it just on the simple basis that it requires less work on my part, but you can go ahead and make up either the Alchemist or the Druid.

Works as both don't they? I'm thinking support (Melee/Ranged)
I would have to disagree, I don't really see the inquisitor being capable of pulling off support role. It is a decent choice for Wild Card, but there are far better classes out there for it, and while the team work feats could allow you to pull off support role, that would require everyone in the group to pick them up as well. The team work feats being APG content mostly, and none of them from the core book, I'm disallowing this class for use.

Bummer.. sorry to have wasted your time..

I thought their class ability let them use teamwork as if the other person had it. I'll take her down.

Yeah, but it only gives the inquisitor said benefit is what I think he was pointing out. So, it's personal buff and not group buff.

Geez the slots for this game went fast. Looks like it is full up, so I'll just wait in the wings for any openings in the future.

Umm, it's the GM chooses from the best made at the time the GM is ready to start actually. So, I think anyone can still submit a character. *Shrugs*

Would like to see if the DM does have any openings straight from him, before I spend time and resources making a character. And when/if I do make one, I always do make a wonderful priestess. I have no problem with support and laying down buff spells right and left.

Why not roll up a bard? Inspire courage mixed with some healing spells makes one hell of a tricky support character.

I think you may need to reread what my expectations are for a support character. The Inquisitor is an "I Buff Myself" Character, unless the entire group has team work feats matching the Inquisitor's. Healing isn't my only expectation for a support character.

I think you should make up your mind on what role your trying to fill. You've gone between support and wild card several times. I think it would make it easier to make a character.

Thing is right now I'm stumped.. don't want to step on someone else's submission (cause they are all good so far.) The only wild cards I can think of that would fit would be something like a Magus (which isn't allowed) or the Inquisitor (which you've given valid reasons for your veto and I'll not linger on). I can't think of a back ground for an Alchemist (which I'm not happy to use given I already have Nevin), a Bard or Druid (which I am drawing a blank  for backstory on both)

So I'll leave ya be and step out. (Unless something inspires me now that my finals are done)

Tyden Geth
The Mad Bomber

The man that would one day be known as "The Mad bomber" was born the only son of a single human mother and the forgotten offspring of a traveling Elven bard. Even in the most welcoming and understanding of communities a half elf can(and usually is) looked at and treated like a bastardization of the races. Most of the other children would shy away from him, make fun of his ears or his slighter frame. He used books as a mean to escape from the realities of his life. Countless hours would be spent reading anything he could get his hands on. It was at an early age he developed a taste for learning about both the natural world and the mystical arts, particularly how the two could work together. While the rest of his peers were out in the sun light working their bodies to exhaustion, Tyden was locked away in his own little world..expanding his mind as best he could. His natural intelligence lent well to the study of all things that piqued his interest. He would often visit the local apothecary, learning what ever he could. It was a few years before he realized he was reading the same books over again, that his trips to the apothecary were becoming less stimulating and more boring. He needed more, wanted more knowledge. As soon as he was of age he set out with a group of traveling merchants, paying his way with his knowledge and the skills he acquired through his long study.

Still young (for a half elf), Tyden found himself absolutely excited to be traveling with the merchants. With them he was able to see and study anyplace they went. It was on this first journey that he found his true interest.. alchemy, a science to some and a mystical art to other. He poured himself into any book he could get his hands on, asking questions of any who knew about the craft. Much to his disappointment he found that most held alchemy as a hobby rather then as a way of life. Eventually there came a time when he felt he no longer benefited from traveling with the merchants. With a thank you and a fond farewell the still sane boy left them. He took up resident within the walls of an expansive city-state, there he enrolled in a magical college. happy he was to find true alchemists, to discover that the so called hobby held much more then just what was presented in the outside world. Years passed in there, many a night he could remember an experiment going awry (hell for one whole month he had no eyebrows). Some say the experiments are what caused him to eventually lose a hold on sanity a bit, though if you ask Tyden himself if he is mad his response would be a soft smile and only the word "Slightly". Eventually he had squeezed all the information he could from his professors and from the books and grimoire found in the library. Once again, he would thank those that helped him along his path and took his leave.. this time out into the world.

Years passed as he explored the world around him, following any trace of information he could. He would scour through ancient libraries. Seek out collectors of strange and esoteric knowledge and ask 9or buy0 permission to study it. It came to be that if you were searching for him, you could usually find him at a table in the back of a tavern with scrolls and books strewn about it. Him hunched over and reading them by candle light as he seamed to mutter in a mixture of seven different languages and jot down strange notes and mathematical formula in a battered leather bound journal of sorts. The quest for knowledge itself was wonderful, but after one such instant he found himself badly wounded. Unable to even get out of bed, His feverish dreams dotted by moments of crystal clear lucidity and borderline madness. What if their was a way to speed the bodies rate of healing, to render even the deadliest of wounds into a mere scratch in just a few moments. The general search for knowledge had turned into a goal, a quest to redefine his very being. It was after this moment that he earned the title the mad bomber, his personal quest took him into the heart of danger to find even a shred of information he could use. His path littered with scorched earth and echoing with the blasts of his bombs and alchemical creations. To accomplish his goal he knew he would need more then just madness: he would need patience, funds, and companions.

Leigh Glenfey
Human Alchemist 5

Leigh grew up amidst magic, her mother is the head conjurer in the school of magic that her family lived in. Her father was a mage-smith, gifted in the crafting of many magic items and taught the ways of creating magical trinkets and minor magics weapons and arms. She grew up among the tomes of magic and disciplines of magic that ran the gauntlet. She grew up and quickly discovered her gift for alchemy, both the minor art of potion making and the major art/science of true Alchemy.
Working hard she learned what she could from the school's libraries while persuading her parents to apprentice her with an Alchemist in a nearby town when she was twelve. By age fifteenth, she was an accomplished journeyman and skilled merchant as well. She was gifted in understanding how both extracts and potions worked with the body. She did some time in a local temple to learn healing skills as well.
Between her gifts in Alchemy, stock pile of potions, and quick wits she developed a reputation as a person to have around. She has taken up adventuring as a way to supplement her income and to expand her horizons. She enjoys being an adventurer as it lets her shape the way things go and cut loose in ways she can't when she is in the workshop or at her parent's school.
Thanks to her father's gifts of a quiver and hip-pack she has most anything at hand that might be needed.

I would have normally just asked for transparency with the character, which I still will, but you didn't ask for use of the feats, magic items, and spells you listed down. I'll go over the rest of the character when you make it easy for me to find what you have and from which class/race/character trait you get it from.

As for having not asked me for use of the items from the APG and adventurers armory. One of those books I'm not even allowing in, and the other is a by request. Unless you can explain to me why they are integral to your character, I'm not allowing those in.

(well, there he is. I tried everywhere i could think of to find a decent half elf picture for the alchemist. I settled on the picture on the srd.. though i think that's actually a full elf.If anyone knows or finds a better picture I could use please let me know.)
I would have normally been asking the same from you as I was of Callie, seeing as you both made some of the same mistakes, but then your character is obviously not made for the game and thus I didn't even read his back-story. He's neutral, and this is a game for goodly characters. Sorry but if you want to play a character that doesn't care, I think this is really not the game for you.

Vik Phelan

Despite what some might insist, not every half orc child is the product of an unwilling human mother.  Vik, his older brothers, and his younger sister were born in a seaside city by the union of Hagrush and Melissa Phelan.  The former was an outcast and a pugilist of some renown, the latter a cobbler as her father and mother before her.  Though not without hardship and controversy, theirs was a loving relationship with few troubles.

At least not marital ones.  Money was always tight in such a large family, and by the time little Opal was born they had been stretched pretty thin indeed.  Hagrush participated in backalley brawls for coin whenever he could, setting a precedent that his three sons would eventually follow in their own way.  He died not long after Vik turned seventeen, finally taken down by a half-ogre foreigner, and the three were forced to delay their morning to come up with a plan to support their mother and sister.

They started small, taking bets on cockfights down by the wharfs.  While Mik and Rik provided the brawn with their thicker orcish blood, Vik used his considerable talents as a showman to rile up onlookers and keep the crowds entertained between fights.  Eventually it turned to dog fighting, and more exotic fare when shipments came in from far off lands.  Vik grew accustomed to the feel of a whip in one hand and a net in the other, keeping the wild beasts at each other's throats instead of those of the audience.

But even he had his limits.  Though they were making more than enough to keep the family afloat, his brothers had gotten caught up in the glory and gold of their little fighting racket.  When Vik caught wind that they were bringing slaves into the mix, he damn near tore their heads off with words alone.  He threatened to take his mother and sister away for even contemplating such a thing, the pain of losing a father to such fights still fresh in his memory after several long years.

A costly mistake, and one that he has yet to live down.  Though bound by blood that was no light threat to make, and the two beat him down and tossed him out on his rear end.  Orc blood, no matter how thin, always runs red hot, and they promised worse if he dared to show his face in town again.

Vik took his things from the house and ran, avoiding his mother and sister out of shame and weakness.  He's been on the road ever since, aimless and looking for something he cannot quite put a name to.  The man has grown much since those days, though still rough around the edges.  Returning home is not a journey he looks forward to.  Thankfully for him, and there's always another convenient distraction or perilous quest to keep his mind off such things, for better or for worse.

Spoiler: Click to Show/Hide

Magnus Arvidsson:

Magnus was born the son of a butcher and a baker, but those days are long behind him.  As a child he lived in a city plagued by the twin demons of Vice and Cruelty, seeing with his own young eyes the injustices that man could visit upon his fellow man.  But he was a sturdy lad, strong of body and of mind, and upon those who would harm his friends he unleashed a cold and terrible wrath.

The flaxen-haired man seemed completely out of place in such a dirty, dour environment.  He put his brawn to good use serving as a city guardsman, but if anything it only made him even more aware of the foulness that could corrupt a man's heart and twist his desires into something altogether ugly.  He saved every silver piece he had over the course of ten years, convinced his parents to pack up their little shop, and went south in search of a place that did not reek with the heady stench of human effluence.

It was in the town of Widow's Pasture that their search finally came to an end.  Magnus bought some property and land for both him and his parents to live comfortably.  The people were simple here, but it was an honest sort that spoke of a pure life.  The bitter taste that so often soured his tongue was absent here, and for the first time he was able to smile and enjoy himself without fear of cutpurses or thugs.

It was here also that he met his wife-to-be, a traveler named Cheryl.  She was a wandering cleric of Iomedae, the Goddess of Valor, and as such they shared similar sensibilities.  Before him her stern demeanor seemed to just melt away, and the two shared many long days and nights together.  When at last she departed, he went with her and left his old house to his parents for safekeeping.

Magnus and Cheryl's adventurers are too numerous to recount in full, but after five years of travel they finally returned to Widow's Pasture.  She was with child, and neither wanted to risk this new life to the perils they had faced abroad.

And so Pernilla Magnusdotter was born, a heavy child that grew up as fast and as strong as her father and as tenacious as her mother.

Alas, as is so commonplace in such tales, a happy ending was not yet in sight.  It would have to be earned through tragedy and loss, if it was to be earned at all.  A band of brigands, thinking the sleepy little community an easy target, beset Widow's Pasture with poisoned blades and flaming arrows.  They were surprised by the ferocity of its protectors, but were quick to focus all of their attentions on the man and the woman that were cutting them down like wheat before a scythe.  Cheryl was struck down by a poisoned stroke to the liver towards the end of the battle, and though Magnus slaughtered the bandits down to the very last he was not quick enough to save his wife.  He lacked the divine arts that she wielded with such ease, and was at a loss to purge the poison from her blood.

So Magnus Arvidsson, citizen of Widow's Pasture, became a widower.

He remained only for a short while thereafter, just long enough to get the town back on its feet and fix the damages from the raid.  Pernilla was nine years old then, old enough to mourn the loss alongside her father.  He could not bear to face her, casting blame upon himself as the bereaved are wont to do.  He left her with his parents, and the two made a pact to keep in contact through letters.  She did not quite understand why he had to leave, but she understood the importance.

That was three years ago.  Since then Magnus has joined the order of Iomedae, imbuing his very soul with the virtues that he had always preached.  He does not know the true nature of the foulness that sickens the minds and bodies of mankind, but with every ounce of his strength he will carve the evil from the world until he can assure the safety of his daughter.

Shihong, your character need some work.

For one I think I might get sick just roleplaying with them, I don't know why you like disgusting pictures, but I don't want to deal with that sort of thing in roleplay. I have to deal with truly ugly people at times in RL, and don't want it invading my fiction.

Your characters haven't been added up correctly in a number of ways, including attack bonus, and I think Vik is using non core ammunition for his arrows. In fact I'm seeing equipment that isn't even from the APG in his CS.  I'm not a fan at how over 75% of Magnus's character wealth went into one suit of armor, which in my opinion weakened him severely.

I'm also not terribly impressed by class to story with your characters, both of them. Magnus seems like he should be a fighter, and Vik seems like a rogue to me.

I'm not sure this is the game for you, but if you want to try to work your character in anyway, some changes will have to be made. First, you'll need to change the pictures, both of these characters have tremendous charisma scores, so it makes absolutely no sense, unless you are saying they are just so hideous that they are truly terrifying to others. In either case, I'm not letting the characters in on pictures alone. After that, work over your equipment to make it easier to sift through. You have a few items from other sources that you need to ditch, and I would prefer if Magnus was more balanced on his equipment.

Bugger..forgot to toggle the Adventurer's armory off my defaults.. forgot all the good stuff for alchemists was on it.. I'll go back through tomorrow and delete all the stuff from it.

Update. Took the APG feats out, (got to find what to do with 3 of them), took the alchemy stuff from APG/Adventurer's Armory and the extract

Take the time to ask me in the future, besides it doesn't look like this is gonna take off too quickly. I have one very crucial party role to fill. I know no one is going to be happy if we can't get a character in to glue the party back together and buff them up for those tough battles.

Normally I use my own gods, but for ease of use, I'm using Pathfinder's. At least for now, I may change it to my own later on, but probably not. If i do change it I'll work with people on their characters.

Small (possibly petty grouse) about the Alchemist.. why is there like ONE non-leathal poison in the game? No paralytics or what ever.. it's all ability/hp damage or Drow Sleep poison.

So if you're a good guy Alchemist there are no drugs to use with poison us with.

Grumply Rant done.

Ugh, you're right; what happened to the paralytic from 3.5? I think it was carrion crawler brains? Blade!? Can we get some homebrew poisons in here that are nonlethal?

Well it doesnt' fit into Leigh's outlook (still trying for the 'Alchemy prodigy' outlook) just a general comment about the class ability. It's very.. non-good alignment setup.

Hmm, skill focus alchemy would be a good start. Not sure other then that. I guess you could ask Blade if he'd go ahead and let you keep at-least two of the extra discovery feats. Long shot, but it doesn't hurt to ask. ;)

Not sure. I'd have to look it up, and then work it over. So we'll see if I get around to something like that, but yes poisons have always been a little hard. Though in truth, except in just a few cases they are just unlawful, not evil. In a few cases they are evil, but we'll not go over that road. :D

Many people are, but lawful evil tends to shy away from them. Now that's not catch all, but there is nothing evil about making poisons. They grow naturally as defense mechanisms for animals and plants, so how in effect would they seem evil. Now the uses for them can be, like if you poison a just king, or decide to make a slave racket using Drow sleep and the like. It's not unlike magic, if you look at a number of different spells, they almost scream evil, but very few spells are, now some uses can be. I can't tell you how many times Howling has crossed that threshold with charm person spells. ;)

Are you sure you want to get on the wizard's bad side when she has to take care of her ... angry cat?

Still, the mental image is sort of hilarious, up to the point when it becomes apparent that feline can and will claw someone's leg bloody. Even with the tremendous damage penalty with the limited strength due to the size, each scratch is bound to hurt and that cat is darn good at landing them on a person somewhere that they are not protected.

Heheh.

Still, planning to play the cat myself and figure that Faedra will sometimes curse the day she happened to take the cat with an oversized ego as her familiar.

I would recommend an Arcane Duelist Bard or Inquisitor for the support role...or you can go with the standard cleric.

Black Howling

QuoteA good support character should be able to heal the party up, and should be able to buff the party(either for offense or defense, but preferably both).

I think those two work for most peoples idea, but support by his definition is mainly buffer and healer. The arcane duelist archetype loses it's main buffing ability, and is only mediocre at healing. I think the inquisitor is pretty much the same. Those two both fit a little better for the wildcard role, which just fills gaps in the party taking strain off the main roles. Bit of a 'jack of a all trades' type character, which I think many people have confused with the role Blade set out. Which is probably why he gave an explanation of what the role should do.

Wintercat

If nobody else volunteers, I could still 'wreck' my old concept and conjure up a cleric.

If someone would make a replacement-mage then, I guess that would solve the problem. I got nothing against buffer/healer class myself, I quite enjoy playing a cleric or a druid now and then, but was looking forward to playing a mage for a while.

Anyhow, its an option at least.

To this day Falkrune still curses the rain whenever the gods see fit to send it his way.

As it turns out, It was not long after that a missionary for Sarenrae stumbled upon them. While the man could do nothing for flakrune's deceased father, he treated the young dwarfs wounds and gathered him up. He Took him back to the Church where the man nursed the dwarven adolescent back to health. During his Recuperation he read from the holy scriptures of Sarenrae, the words seemed to strike a chord with him. When he was well enough to travel he left the Church with the missionary escorting him, to head back home and inform his mother of what happened.. and seek her blessing to leave for the church and study there. Graciously she agreed (on the condition that he would come visit her every once and awhile) and after a home cooked meal and a good night rest he set back out for the Church of Sarenrae, to begin the next stage of his life.

The Dwarven sun worshiper! Nice touch. :-)

Though, I'm afraid you are off on a few things.

First, you're missing a skill point. You added your favored class bonus to skills, giving you three per level, and you're fifth level, so that comes up to fifteen not fourteen.

Second, your weight. You put down twenty five pounds for breastplate, and it weighs thirty pounds. You can also assume that anytime you're wearing your armor and thus the rest of your equipment, that you'll also be wearing your explorers outfit so the nice priest vestments don't get tarnished by blood. So mark the eight pounds for that as well.

Last, though all but least. You didn't mark down masterwork cost in your magical gear, like the breastplate, the scimitar, and the shield. I also think you should go back over your math on the equipment, from what I calculated you looked a little light on the gold you should have, even after I counted in the masterwork cost. I'm counting that you spent 19,936 gold, which would leave you with 1064 gold left, though I am not immune to mistakes.

In would also like to ask a fair question. This game will have some sexual situations, and while it's not likely to take a main focus, there could be times when you feel left out as I won't roleplay female dwarves, and other races are not attracted to dwarves in my games. Is this going to be a problem for you?

Isengrad

I will redo the math, I thought I read somewhere that the price for the bonus listed included the price of masterwork but I will look again. I was not sure i gained the favored skill point at first level that's why it is 14. I will adjust the weight for my clothes and the mistake on the breast plate.(a good thing slow and steady means I don't face a movement penalty)

As for the dwarf.. well, Does not bother me that much. mainly because there are other players... But it would not be hard to change him around a bit. I would have to adjust his stats a bit so hes not encumbered by his equipment. I will think it over.. and hey.. even If I make him human.. a human foundling raised by dwarven parents can still be interesting (mostly that's just to explain the name if i want to keep it)

oh, never asked.. but are you allowing traits? if so then the adoptive parent trait would be perfect for that back story. but if not then no biggie.

I have added the extra skill point and adjusted the weight of my equipment already.

Edit: Upon double checking my math, i would not of had enough to purchase the masterwork for the gear. I dropped my Cloak of resistance to a +1. refunding me 3000 gold (seeing as a +1 only costs 1000 gp) my new total with all my current gear is 2797 gp and 7 silver left to me.

Years passed by as falkrune studied the scriptures of Sarenrae, took part in the rituals and celebrated the holidays. He was surprised to find that training in the scimitar was much apart of worshiping the Dawnflower as reciting the prayers and learning the rituals. After a few years Falkrune was ordained a Cleric of the healing light and he set out into the world. With sword, shield, and faith as his weapon he looked to spread her light throughout the world. A missionary for light and justice, he sought out groups of like minded individuals to share his journey and offer his protection to.

I did my best to make sure everything was from the core book. All my racial traits and my domain powers are listed under notes. As well as my favored class bonus's . In parentheses by the feats are what level I took them (once again.. made sure they are all from core)

If anything is out of place, or my math is wrong.. let me know and I will correct the mistake.

Edit: upon further consideration, i would like to feel involved in the game during any scenario. So while i have changed Flakrune to a closed character and have made another cleric similar to him as I liked the build... So, third times the charm.

Noted.

In either case, the support role remains with no possible candidate, I'll want to fill it before I start the game.

I'll soon get a list of the people I think I will be hard apt to replace, and make up the OOC.

Half-Elf Cleric of Sarenrae

When you talk about the life of a half-elf it all seems to start the same. No matter what society they are born into, they are met with envy or disgust... sometimes at the hands of their own parents.Such was the case with kyras, a human mother and an elven father.. he was lucky enough to never meet the man that brought about his birth; or at least that is what he always told himself. His mother was at best negligent of him, there were many times he was forced to steal to feed himself as a child. It was no wonder that as he grew up he was drawn to the bad crowd, it felt as if he finally had a family with them.A simple group of cat purses and other ne'er-do-wells. As a group they would steal and play pranks on traveler and townsfolk alike. But one day they bit off more then they could chew.

the day his life changed is when an Elven Paladin of the Dawnflower was traveling back through the town on his way back from a missionary quest to spread the word of the Healing light. the small group of boys that fancied themselves a thieves guild bit off more then they could chew when they tried to steal from him. in the short lived chaos that followed the paladin was only able to get his hands on Kyras(him being the smallest at the time). Kyras screamed for help from those he thought of as family, but none of them answered his calls. He felt betrayed and heart broken. When questioned about where his parents were Kyras's only response was "I don't have any" a statement while not factually true certainly felt like it at times. After a brief moment of pause the man made his decision, he brought the boy along with him... no one ever came to find him, after all his own mother did not even care for him.

So it was the kyras's new home was a simple Church of the Everlight along a rarely traveled road a few miles away from a town that never cared about him. The first few month's he tried to make the priests and clerics life as hard as he could, doing his best to get them mad so they would kick him out. try as he might they would only scold him and set to fixing his acts (or make him do it as part of his punishment.). He was baffled by this response, he had never been treated like this.. not even by his own mother. Slowly but surely he came to understand the compassion of the church folk. He felt protected, he was well fed, and he felt loved for the first time.

As the years flew by, the trees and forests that surrounded the church bore witness to a wonderful change in the chaotic youth that had come to the church so long ago.the boy had taken to the word of Sarenrae, he read aloud from The Birth of Light and Truth during the service. When the paladin was there the two would talk, he would be trained in the use of weapons.. most importantly the weapon of the Dawnflower.. the scimitar. To kyras, the paladin became like a true father. it was not till he was an adult and the elven paladin came back from a pilgrimage with grave wounds that the clerics could not heal that he found out the truth, the paladin was his true father. On his deathbed the man explained that he had been in love with his mother before he received the divine call to become a Paladin of Sarenrae.. and he was unaware of the fact he had a son until he saw Kyras in that square so very long ago.He begged forgiveness, which kyras gladly gave. His father was sent to the afterlife in service to the Healing light without any regrets. It was not long after that Kyras became an ordained cleric of the Church of Sarenrae, and left on his own mission to make this world safer.. seeking out like minded individuals to share in his adventures.

You shorted yourself 50 gold on the scimitar, but otherwise it's perfect! This character will be hard to replace, so I have to thank you for going through the work! I know it must have been frustrating doing it three times.

Black Howling

Grats Isengard, that's the best cleric I've seen in a long time! Really well built, and good background too.

Wintercat

Welcome along Isengrad, glad to have you and looking forward to seeing your character in game then, and in motion.

This should become interesting.
I've taken the Oath of The Drake. Remind me of it if you think I act against it.

Call the 50 gold as a tithe to the church

edit: And as far as frustrating. not really.. I do enjoy making characters.. and really Kyras is just a small edit from fulkrune. But glad everyone likes the cleric.

Here is the OOC thread, the character sheet thread will be up shortly, and hopefully I can get the ice up today as well.

The only Approved Characters thus far are:
Kreios Argaran: Played by Black Howling
Faedra: Played by Wintercat
Celesita Ranora: Played by Lady Lunarius
Kyras Stheil: Played by Isengrad

These decisions are not final, but they are nearing such a time. I still haven't found ANYONE to fill the wild card role, but it's not a necessity either. I've seen one person after another have trouble with the Alchemist, so I'm just about ready to say that is just a problem class, but we'll see if Callie or someone else can get it right. Of course other wild card characters would be welcome, but I'm likely to start the IC VERY soon, so if you're not quick you may have to come in late.

Again: NO role has been for sure filled yet, but I do have completed well built characters for the four primary roles.

Callie Del Noire

What problems are left with my alchemist? (I thought they had been addressed and I've been adjusting the sheet to reflect the ones you asked)

You hadn't informed me you had fixed them, but I'll go over it to see if it's fixed.

{Edit: Nothing has been changed, you're still carrying equipment from the Adventurer's Armory, you're carrying non approved equipment from the APG, and you do realize that Master Alchemist is not a core feat right. You didn't have that one approved by me, only the Extra Discovery feats, and you don't even have them listed down. You're sheet is still not transparent, you'll have to list down what level you got your feats, and whether they were class or race dependent. I would prefer if the gold piece value of your equipment was listed, and you need to list down where your favored class bonus went.}

I've started the IC now, and have made the final character cuts. I have never filled the wild card role, so until someone steps up for that I plan to move ahead without it.

I thank everyone that showed interest and put in work on characters.

Wildcard Character submission.

Kala Dwyger was something of a disappointment to her father.  Her mother, however was proud...

At least that was what Kala told herself, as often as possible.  She'd not seen her mother in many years.  Her mother had vanished when she was 12, in a magical portal created by one of her father's experiments.  He promised she'd be able to return... someday.  Promised she was still alive, and that Kala could even see her, if she only would apply herself more to her studies!

Kala's father was an archmage.  A powerful figure in the land, and among the planes, he'd expected his only kin to follow in his footprints... astral or otherwise.

And Kala had TRIED.  She tried and tried.  Her brain never wanted to accept magic.

Oh she'd achieved some measure of success, but always with more time and effort than her father would admit were necessary.

So, one day, Kala had just... left.  Her grandmother was visiting... and had never seen eye to eye with her father.  She came from a long line of warriors, and while her warrior daughter had married this spell slinger, she thought he was far to pompous for his own good.  And then he loses her daughter, gods only know where!  Promises....

His daughter... her Grandaughter, came running up to her, begging to leave with her as she began her long journey home.

She laughed.  Why not?

Kala had been something of a disappointment at first to her Grandmother as well.  Besides a tendancy to dance, the girl had no physical skills worth mentioning.

But she was eager.  Ever so eager!

Kala remembered her lessons, and each and every lesson with the others her grandmother had traded with for her training, very well.  Painfully well.  Each bruise and scar were a reminder NOT to stand that way again.  NOT to block that way, and NOT to dodge left when the sword swung in an arc right...

Now she was on her pilgrimage.  Her grandmother told her her training could not be complete until she honed hr skills in the world outside... and Kala felt ready.  She wanted to start using her skill to help people, like in her books.  The books her mother had read to her.

And maybe, someday, she'd be sure her mother was proud of her.

Black Howling

Gotta love how the Monk can multiclass easily on Pathfinder. :D That was so needed for it and the paladin.

Is this game still seeking a wild card, and is the DM willing to work with somebody who is well versed in 3.5, but has never opened a Pathfinder book until this evening? If the wild card slot is open, I'd like to take a stab at a druid.

Hello Opheliac; I'm not sure what EB will say, but there is another game in this series that is recruiting. Also, if your interest is in a support style druid; I could also integrate you into the original game. We find ourselves in need of a support character. And I'd be glad to have you aboard and help you out with making her if you'd like. :)

It is still open, and I think a Druid would mesh really well with the group. Here is a link that could get you started on learning pathfinder, and I'd be glad to help you out.

Try to keep in mind that the link above has a lot of content from a lot of books. Only the Core rule book is allowed content, and the APG(Advanced Player's Guide)is an exception to this rule, with my permission.

I am working on my character, but Im curious as to what you are looking for in a wild card type character. I can see a druid being able to deal damage, tank, cast spells, and skill monkey a little bit, but never with the quality to replace a team member in a pinch. Do you have some recommendations for me, for what you see a wild card really capable of doing?

The group as is, isn't a skill light group, but it's not skill heavy either, so some ability there would be good. We have a wizard who's while not bad at artillery attack spells, not the best, but our cleric takes up a little for that. All of our group, besides the wizard has good capability in melee, so we're not lacking there. What I'm looking for primarily is someone to take up for, a little healing when they can, a little melee when they can, a little range when they can, and work the skills over around the group.

Here is the party we have now, take a look and see what I'm talking about. I suppose I'm looking for a mid ranged combatant, someone both good with magical artillery and some melee prowess, with skills being a major plus.

Well, here we go. I don't quite know the background fluff of the setting, as I kinda just dived into the meat and potatoes of the rulebook. Forgive me if the background sounds a little generic for now.

Talira Daru
Female Gnome Druid 4 / Rogue 1

Talira has never been the kind of person to stay in one place. Even as a child, she always wandered off, exploring or just wondering whats behind the next hill. Her parents always had fussed about how she would eventually get lost or eaten. Once she was old enough to be considered an adult, she wished her parents farewell, and left on a grand adventure! She walked the horizons, her wanderlust carrying her from place to place, where she absorbed a love of the land. She learned what was safe to eat by watching the bear cubs foraging for berries, or caught fish with her bare hands by studying the hawks diving for prey in the rivers. A kind dryad taught her the basics of druidism, and with those new skills she flourished even more.

As a fledgling druid, Talira had come across a small elven encampment deep in the woods, empty except for the discarded skins of the inhabitants. A necromancer murdered them all and raised the skeletons of the elves, and the images scarred her. She swore an oath to the trees that she would be a force to balance the evil in the world. From then on, she did what she could to help everyone she met, even those less humanoid. Ananise became her companion because Talira saved her from being eaten by a fungal crawler.

She began her adventuring career on accident really, hearing the sounds of battle being done not far away in the forest. She arrived just in time to help a novice group of heroes defend against a wave of hobgoblins. Once the fight was done, she happily signed on with the band of adventurers. Taking a support role, she used her skills and talents to help shape terrain to the groups advantage, heal when needed, and neutralize evil spellcasters by taking a wolf form and ganging up on them with Ananise. Talira even picked up some pointers from the rogue on group tactics and trap finding, just in case.

After several years of successful adventuring with the group, it all had to come to an end. We parted ways, but she and her companion still wandered the lands, helping those in need. She longed for the days when she could travel with a group, and really feel like she was helping bring balance against the evil deeds being done, and so, kept her eyes open for another chance to team up with others on quests for what's right and good.

Your character was perfectly done, but I have a few concerns.

First, the choice of rogue as a multiclass. I know the skills are tempting, but your character is in medium armor. That means she really can't the best use of the some of the skills and abilities the class grants her, the armor penalty really kills the combo. I've seen the combination work amazingly before, but that was normally with the druid in question wearing light armor.

Second, I want to ask you what I've asked others who picked up a race that I don't find sexually appealing. Sex isn't the main focus, but it is a focus on this game. You could end up feeling like your character is being left out, once the sexual scenes come up. Is this gonna be a problem? If not then fine, but I have to know before hand.

BTW: Tagen I found another little thing wrong with your character sheet. She spent 21003 gp and 1 sp. She only had 21k to work with, and you have her down with more gold left. I'd like you to work this over, probably by losing the copper bracelet that is imbued with the 'Continual Flame' spell. Let me know when you've done it.

Opheliac

I wasnt aware that sex was going to be a major concern in this game. As that is the case, I withdraw my character for concideration. Im sorry, and thank you for your time.

Not a major concern, but yes it will be present. Well, thank you for your interest, and your time.

Tagan

Thanks!  Good catch.

I've fixed that, by the simple expedient of having one less spell in her spell book.  (1 hour of Alarm wasn't terribly useful anyway.)

Alright then, Kala is accepted. re-post her into the Characters Thread, and you can feel free to post in the OOC.

I'll want you to wait for just a bit to post in the IC, until I PM you with a plan to integrate your character in. I have a couple of ideas, I just need to narrow down on them. If you have any ideas, feel free to Pm me about them, or state them on the OOC.
