This is a request for four (4) dedicated players for a new D&D game using the 3e ruleset (no 3.5e or 4e).  Campaign world is the Forgotten Realms.

This link: https://elliquiy.com/forums/index.php?topic=94572.0 is the original thread that led me to posting this request.

As I say in my original post in that thread - this won't be a generic dungeon crawl.  Please have a read of my post in the above link (I can't be bothered typing it all out again).  Any questions that I haven't answered please post them in this link.

I wish to reiterate that I would like dedicated players, not casual or part-time-once-a-fortnight posters.  If you can't post at least once every couple of days then please don't waste both our time by requesting to join.

This is not a case of first in first served.  I will PM you with the details once I've got the necessary players.

Thanks
KK

Teaser #1...

His blackened claws clacked on the hard cold flagstones of the corridor, his pace was determined yet unhurried.  With a flick of his gnarly, ancient fingers the double wooden doors creaked open revealling a spartan room, its only decoration was a large throne made of wrought iron.   The educated observer would have recognised the throne as an imitation of the throne on which the Kings of Cormyr of centuries past had been coronated.

Gathered on either side of the throne, were a dozen abominations, twisted parodies of their former selves.  To the immediate left of the throne was Malvaar the Minotaur, a fallen Paladin so filled with self-loathing that his very form had been corrupted.  Crouched next to Malvaar, chattering insanely to itself, was the Spider.  A half arachnid half Goblin monstrosity that had ruled the Spiderfell for hundreds of years since the Great Cataclysm...half a dozen more watched the figure's approach to the throne...the softly wailing Banshee, the White Witch, Ghuralli the Mad, Manaam of the Great Spear.  On the right side of the throne stood a single figure.  Tall, aristocratic, imperious and elven, Rhoubhe Manslayer stood silently by himself, none daring to approach he who was second only to the Gorgon.

All eyes watched as the creature approached the throne, stopping at its base and bowing his granite armoured head as if in deference for what the throne represented.  It intoned a solemn verse, its voice like two boulders grinding together, yet the words spoken so ancient no one present understood them.

The figure slowly ascended the two small steps upon which the throne sat.  Once seated, the figure cast his eyes over the gathered figures and like a chasm yawning open, it smiled, where once bright white teeth had resided, the creatures mouth was now filled with yellowed stalactites and stalagmites.

"We have toiled for longer than most of mankind can remember and soon we shall be triumphant, all of Toril shall be on bended knee, our names on their trembling lips!

"But there is one who would see our work undone...one who calls itself the Warlock, a new awnshegh, weak in its power it is seeking allies, trying to establish a powerbase and in doing so has attracted the attention of the humans and their allies...it must be crushed before we are discovered.  Who here will take this task upon themself?"

A dozen pairs of eyes looked about the room, wondering who would be foolish enough to volunteer.  After a lengthy pause a tall figure to the throne's right stepped forward.  With scorn literally oozing from ever pore, the Manslayer barked, "Gorgon! I will eliminate this Warlock, for the humans must not learn of the Red Shadow."  The other creatures, awnshegh all, withered under the Manslayer's baleful stare, each one knowing that he could destroy them almost without thinking about it, but each one secretly plotting how they could best him.

"See that it is done." Intoned the Gorgon.

Teaser #2...

His feet and knees were aching as he ran through the corridors, his slippers slapping against the tiled floor of the palace.  His rotund figure was unused to such exertion and he was glad that the end f the corridor was near. With his chest heaving and his breath coming in short gasps, his pudgy hands pushed the large oak doors open revealing the opulent royal court of Duke Darien Avan.

The hubbub of the gathered dignitaries, aristocrats and courtiers quickly quietened as he made his way through the crowd, slowing his pace so as to gather some of his tattered dignity.  Approaching the simple wooden throne, he lowered his head in deference to the grey-haired but otherwise youthful looking man who sat casually upon it...the saviour of the Blackmoore Baronies, Duke Darien Avan.

The Duke's face broke into a broad smile when he saw the approaching man.  The Duke beckoned him forward, shooing away several merchants who were pleading their case against Ducal taxes. "I say, Brother Simon you look flustered.  Come, pray tell what news has you so...exhausted."

The man straightened his cassock, assuming the dignified-bordering-on-arrogant stance that was commonly associated with Priests of Azuth.  "Sire, I bring ill tidings from Southport.  Two tenday's ago the sheriff and over a dozen of his men-at-arms were been slain by the Orcs of the Iron Peak tribes in direct contravention of the Treaty of Arar.  Worst still, a constable by the name of Stefan Hightower managed to escape and has reported that a wizard of some power was in alliance with them,"

The Duke's smile dropped from his face as quickly as it had appeared.  The fingers of his left hand slowly stroked the purple birthmark on his right cheek, a mark that many thought looked like the head of a dragon.  "I tell from your countenance that you have even less palatable news..."

The priest nodded and retrieved a tiny scroll from a pouch on his wide leather belt.  "This is a missive from Captain Bellamie, the commander of the garrison of Castle Rook.  In it he writes...'we are under siege by a horde of men that carry no banner or flag by which to identify them.  Brigands they are not, but soldiers neither.   We can hold for a score of days, but relief is imperative'...".

"ENOUGH!  Summon the War Council! The Treaty of Arar has been violated and those who would break oath shall be brought to justice."  The Duke strode across the vast expanse of his court a trail of whispers from the gathered courtiers following him.

Teaser #3...

The flame from the single candle did little to shed light in the small room, but it served its purpose to show the robed figures gathered around the table.  Each figure's face was hidden by a large cowl, but all those present knew who else attended this most secret of meetings, for one did not stay a member of the Brotherhood for long if their tongue wagged.

A large figure with gold thread on his robe spoke, his voice deep and resonating. "Brothers, we have learnt today that the Warlock has overstepped and now that simpering fool Avan has summoned the War Council.  Time is short and we must prevent the Council from taking definitive action."

A feminine figure with silver thread spoke next. "And what would you suggest Brother Gold? We have strived to ensure the Warlock's success for over a decade...to reveal our hand now would be imprudent."

Brother Gold nodded in the speaker's direction.  "Brother Silver is correct, while we must be hasty we must also be careful in our actions.  I recommend that you return to your Wards and garner the necessary votes to ensure that the Council will be halted in any step to form an expeditionary force to assist Castle Rook."

A wiry figure who was all but lost in the folds of his cloak leaned forward, the red thread of his robes seeming to flicker in the weak candlelight, "I further suggest that we have the Chamberlain recommend a small force of individuals be sent to investigate and ascertain the accuracy of reports received and to report back to the Council.  We then rig the votes in our Wards and have the weakest members nominated to perform this task."

Brother Gold's laughter was deep and bass, "Brother Red that is an excellent idea.  With the Wards voting in unison the Duke will have no option but to accept their decision and the foray will be doomed before it even begins!"

BigBuckBob

I officially toss my hat into the ring. And express interest in being a rogue.
Ons and Offs
Waiting for a Post?
I am disappoinment width you're grammer.

KaraKres

Okay, so BigBuckBob is one.

I'm looking for four players.  While Triple B has indicated a preference to play a rogue, that doesn't mean someone else can't play a rogue as well.  Character generation will be by the standard 3e ruleset.  Attributes won't be randomly generated, they'll be done using build points.

As my previous posts have indicated character level will be 1st and the overall power level of the first act will be relatively low.

Campaign world is the Forgotten Realms with a heavy does of modification.

After some consideration I won't be accepting any requests to play Barbarians or Druids - but all other basic classes are available.

KaraKres

Ok, so now I have two players, but would still be keen to have one or two more!

I promise you a rollicking good adventure full of races, chases, damsels, dastardly villians, fights, sex, mystery, betrayal, sex, sacrifice, desperation, true love, pirates, sex...

wildstar

I express interest. I would like to play as a male fighter. what times would be good for play? I work in the mornings on monday, tuesday, friday and saturday. my home internet is down at the moment but I use a library's computer for now. I can play from like 4pm to 7pm on the days i work. but when I'm off work I'll be sure to be on.

Since it is a group RP it'll be a case of just posting as appropriate when you're online.  My timezone is GMT+12 (New Zealand) so anyone in the northern hemisphere is usually asleep when I'm online.

So we now have a male rogue, a male fighter and a female character.  Another female character would make it perfect (gender of player is irrevalent).

wildstar

Cool. I will post been awhile since I played D&D so be gentle if I mess up ok. :) I will make a character ASAP and post it where ever you wish it put.

KaraKres

Just hold off on creating your character for while - I'd like to see if I can get a fourth player signed up and then we'll do character creation via PM's.

Since we won't be using random rolls for attributes, but a point build system instead, you can plan on how you'd like your character to look.  What you can also do in the interim is start working out your character's backstory.  I'll post up some detail soon-ish about the area of the Forgotten Realms where the campaign is going to take place, highlighting important NPC's, locations and events and if you like you can work some of these elements into your character's backstory.

The campaign area is known as the Blackmoore Baronies - the wild west (sans 10 gallon hats and six shooters!) of the Forgotten Realms - if you aren't familiar with this area, then you're more than welcome to create a character from any of the other areas of the Forgotten Realms so long as you stick to the main continent; so no Maztica, Kara-tur or the other oriential land (the name of which eludes me as I type this).

Races allowed are:

Human
Elf
Half-Elf
Halfling
Half-Orc
Dwarf

KaraKres

Ok, so the characters we have thus far are:

Inflatetress: Female Bard
BigBuckBob: Male Rogue
Wildstar: Male Fighter

Really need some magic here.  Anyone interested in playing a Female Wizard or Sorceror? Even better would be a Female Priest of Sune (Goddess of Love and Beauty...)

RubySlippers

Female Wizard [Specialty Undecided]

If you want another class just holler' I'm flexible but the bard should fill in for a cleric a bit.

KaraKres

Welcome aboard Ruby! Female Wizard is fine - there is no need to specialise unless you want to.  You're right, the Bard could be a weak Cleric in a pinch....note to self, tone down the amount of undead...

All right folks, I'll get started on putting up the campaign background, while you folks work on your characters.  All of the standard 3e rules apply with the notable exception of attribute generation.  Since you'll be assigning points for just about every other importnat  aspect of your characters (i.e. skills and feats) its only fair to do it with attributes as well.

Everybody will have stats that start at 8 and you have 56 discretionary points to spend on a 1-for-1 basis.  This means you could have all eight attributes as 15's or any other combination.

Please remember that while attributes, skills, etc are important in the game in a mechanical sense, I believe they need to be backed up by a good backstory...so if you're gonna have a STR and CON of 18 then a little explanation on how this super-being came to be would be good.  Free feel to use one of the many different character generation tools that can be found via the internet and then PM me the link to your character sheet which will save you typing it all out!

I'll PM you with the relevant game links once they are up.

Cheers
KK

That's alot of points one could have all 18's pretty much at least in five stats and one at 14? Not exactly alot of fun for me to be uber-mighty maybe you put in the wrong points if they all are 15's then lets see wouldn't that be 42 points not 56?

Sleep deprivation error I'm afraid!  I calculated the numbers based on eight attributes, rather than SIX!  I was getting confused with another pen-and-paper game I'm running in real life which has eight attributes.

So to correct my mistake - each character has 6 attributes beginning at 8 and you each have 26 discretionary points to adjust the attributes to your liking.  The previous advisory about continuity between attributes and backstory still stands.

RubySlippers

I'll think then I'll go kind of average not ideal wizard material as in will never achieve the lofty heights of power but that will free her to added spells slots to lower level spells so will pack lots of magic at high levels just not lofty ones.

wildstar

Edit: ok this is good. I'll Pm my character here now since I'm here.

KaraKres

Thanks, PM received and replied to.  Need to wait for the other three to get their characters to me before we can lock down the total backstory for you all.

Working on the brief history of the campaign area and the intro thread.  I'll be including elements that you and the other players mention in your respective backstories, so that each player also has their own sub-plots going on as well as the main 'adventure'.

KK

RubySlippers

Not doing finesse my character is going to be an Evoker as in you piss her off and eat destructive battle spells, I can mix it up Magic Missle for in the populated areas and deadly overwhelming devestation in not so sensitive areas. Just no enchantments or illusions. Small price to pay for such potent magics once I get to middling levels plus. Its a specialization under Wizard I just use the specialist name.

Okay, an Evoker it is.  PM me your character when you've got time as well as whatever backstory you've developed thus far.

RubySlippers

Important are you using the FR Campaign Setting for any feats, regional equipment and such? The Magic of Faerun Book?

It could be important for my character.

KaraKres

Yes to the Magic of Faerun book - I love the Gutsnake spell - even if it is ewwww!

Feats, regional equipment, etc yes, so long as it is in the Core Campaign Setting or one of the regional supplement books.  If you think something might be marginal, then PM me first and we can discuss.

RubySlippers

I never planned to do much of a background she is to lowly a wizard to get her circle to come after her and she likely just hook up with some caravan as a guard mage until she got away from Thay. I'm not sure how much you want I can do a dinky paragraph but I'm just not feeling creative. That for her is the point a new start and forgetting her old life which for her was shitty after all she was never seen as a first rate Red Wizard no one was even considering her a threat.  :-\  Is kind of insulted on that point.

KaraKres

That's okay - 1st level characters tend to have somewhat truncated backstories - what I'm looking for is continuity between the characters.

I'm just waiting on inflatetress to send me her character and then I'll look to see how the backstories can be combined.  I've got lots of ideas swirling around my head already based on the three that I've already seen, so I might put something together featuring all four of you, post it, take on any suggestions, critiques, etc and then we can begin play.

wildstar

ah Faerun. how I missed thou. lol would you ladies mind if my character used a two handed sword? I like using one so I can cut orc's *the stupid ones not half orc's* in half  >:)

KaraKres

I now have five players so this request for players is now closed.
